I'm so glad someone is finally talking about it. my switch edition runs TERRIBLY. It constantly crashes, freezes, has bad framerate and render distance, and is SOOO buggy. As a veteran console player this annoys me to this day that the console version went from the most bug-free version to the buggiest, especially on switch. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially with 1.18 on the horizon

I've had the switch version for about three months, not a single crash, bug, or performance error. It sometimes does take a bit to load chunks, but only in experimental 1.18. I don't know what else to say, just wanted to mention that it runs flawlessly on my switch, although my switch sometimes sounds like a fan

I've only had one issue on my switch and its that if a conduit, beacon, rain, and particle effects are all on screen, the game has a small chance to freeze for a little bit and ive played for 2.5 years now. The only reason toycat and other people are having common issues is that they don't take care of their switches

When we made our World a Realms server though it ran much much better. Chunks load more smoothly and the frame rate is also more stable and usable. I’ve clocked more hours than I can remember into it on there and from all that experience I can say the game *can* run very well and has on many occasions for me. It’s just that every time a software update comes by, one thing will see improvement but something else would break.
As of right now the game is currently very stable for me and I haven’t run into any crashes or marketplace loading issues I had in the past. Unfortunately the downside this time around is that skins don’t seem to load when in multiplayer.

I’ve found that the best way to play Minecraft on my switch is by playing on a realm. It takes a lot of the strain off the switch itself since you’re basically streaming the game instead of playing the world natively. Far less crashing, and in the event something does go horribly wrong, I can load up a backup of the realm. It’s immensely stupid and frustrating that I have to pay an extra $4 a month to get a stable version of a game I already paid $30 for, plus the cost of my online subscription, but that’s what ended up working best for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I used to always love playing Minecraft on my Switch, back in the Nintendo Switch Edition days. When Bedrock came out, it never ran amazingly, but very quickly it went from being mediocre to being outright unplayable. Online play is near impossible, going on the shop is extremely difficult, and even just loading the game takes over a minute. Whoever is in charge of Nintendo Switch QoS needs to be replaced with someone who knows what they're doing. This is Minecraft, the biggest game ever created, and it's suffering from poor performance on a game that runs on smartphones?! Eventually I was pretty much forced to stop playing Bedrock on the Switch, because it was that bad. I moved back to Nintendo Switch Edition (still has a surprisingly big community) and Bedrock Edition on my underpowered laptop (which is less powerful than the Switch mind you, ran the game flawlessly). When I got a better laptop last year, I switched to Java and haven't looked back, it reminds me of how stable the old console edition was with feature updates still.

I personally feel this video. I love minecraft, and have played the Java edition since the dawn of time. Never had major issues, and have always been pleased. My girlfriend doesn't have a PC yet and since I love to game, we thought getting minecraft on my switch would be a good way for us to connect and play together, through splitscreen. Early in the world was fine, aside from when autosaving happens, every few minutes. Blocks don't break, chunks won't load, etc etc. That's annoying but it's fine, it catches up when the autosave is done. But after throwing 30-40 hours into a world, building our home and all the bells and whistles, the world file size went up. Crashes happened every now and then, lag started to worsen, chunks loaded slower. I started to feel less enjoyment because it's hard to appreciate your builds when things start to become inconvenient to the performance. God forbid you want to travel with an elytra, she started flying into a chunk that wasn't loaded and hit a mountain and died. Then there is the wither. When the internet tells you not to bother fighting the wither, which is a part of the game intended to be done, because it will lag your game too badly, it is a problem. We had to turn on cheats to deal with it, and undo spawning it, while running at 2 fps, and voiding the gain of achievements. It's not fun and it's a problem, which sucks. Sorry for the rant.

I’ve been playing Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch as my main console for 2 and a half years now, and while I wasn’t really too bothered by the performance issues at first, now that my main survival world has surpassed 200 megabytes, the performance is starting to take a hit. This video made me realise just how extensive the crappy performance for Minecraft on the switch is. With the introduction of the experimental versions, it just worries me further just how terrible the performance will be once 1.18 comes out, because just walking around on the ground in a fresh world with the render distance on it’s lowest is just downright unplayable. Each chunk takes a minimum of 20 seconds to load. It’s not just down to the console’s performance either, as it can run massive games like super mario odyssey, zelda BOTW, and even third party games like dark souls remastered and subnautica, can all run at 1080p 60fps quality when docked. I’ve played all these games on switch and haven’t had any performance issues unless the switch is undocked. Someone needs to mention these performance issues with someone at Mojang, because Minecradt on the switch is becoming intolerable.

  • @dempseyfrancis9352

As a switch player myself, I couldn't agree more. There are an egregious amount of bugs that will cause for you to loose tons (if not all) of your progress in your world. Often just trying to pillar up, you will randomly encounter a ghost block and get pushed off, and when strip mining, often blocks appear to be broken, but after about 5 seconds reappear, suffocating you, and taking your items with. The crashing bugs are also frequent and often loose progress. The worst of all the glitches is that once you reach a certain world file size, your switch won't even let you open Minecraft (on your account). This completely locks you out of the game, and even with bug reports all over the internet, there is no way to fix this. Beyond bugs, just the general look and feel of the game is very jagged, often sides of blocks will become see-through for no reason, chunks refuse to load, and the framerate drops/lag spikes are worryingly frequent. Online is a whole other mess, but I won't get into that. I would not recommend this version to anyone unless it is there only option (as it is for me), as pretty much any other version will give you a much greater experience all around.

  • @ThePolarb3ar
    @ThePolarb3ar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Glad I'm not the only one having loads of issues. I have honestly tried googling many times if anyone else was having issues and found nothing. I loved the lecacy switch edition and had a world I loved on it and was sad when it was announced to be getting no updates. I really like the concept of Bedrock on switch and I want to love it, but I tried it and had constant crashing, the menus took 2 seconds for buttons to register and had constant framerate issues, not to mention the state of marketplace and character creator performance, which was shocking considering the legacy edition had no issues like it. It feels like it should never have passed Nintendo's cert testing with how buggy and bad it is. I could rant for an hour about all its issues. I don't understand how anyone can enjoy playing its current state but it is consistently one of the best selling games each week and is by far the most popular version. Do they just get lucky with the issues or do they not know any better and how Minecraft could potentially run? And now all this has caused is a dilemma with my world because I'm bored of 1.12 in the legacy edition, hate performance in bedrock on switch and it won't even let me transfer over to Windows where bedrock actually performs well because of an error every time I upload any world to a realm on switch. And to make matters worse it isn't even the hardware that's the problem because running the pocket edition on Android on a modded switch performs much better from my short testing. Just poor optimisation in software, which could be fixed but Microsoft has been focussed on features breaking the game even more. Also I guess this is a good time to mention I also dislike the feel of the right stick in Minecraft. It seems to have a massive deadzone and the sensitivity doesn't go up high enough for my liking, but I'd rather the game actually works than that minor issue was fixed.
Admittedly the latest update does fix a bunch of stuff and I hope that progress can continue, but at this point I just don't trust it to stay like this and not get another update that breaks it again.

As someone who is stuck on the switch, I cant help but agree with everything he said. Random frame drops, random crashes, lag while eating the food and in the nether. (The nether can create a lot of block lag sometimes.) I just recently started building a modular, automatic storage system. I was planning on building almost 30 modules. I built four and I'm already noticing a lower frame rate. And flying with an elytra is painful. For example, if I want to find a specific biome. I have to sit on a chunk border waiting for the next chunk to load, it's just so annoying to deal with. This is why I play on java more then bedrock. The only reason I stick with switch is because it is the first version that I played Minecraft on, and that's where all my worlds are. If weren't for those two reasons, I'd be playing Java full time. It might not run the best, but there are mods that can fix that. Also unrelated, but Switch sufferers from the most joy-con drift of any device ever, and I can't get over it.

It *didn't* used to _be like this!_
I bought the Switch version back in 2019. The version that's on the game card, supposedly, was "1.2" or in that neighborhood. That old version used to run _quite well_ on the Nintendo Switch! It was a perfect solution to not being able to run _Minecraft_ on my very outdated computer. Yeah, you still had to log in to _both_ your Nintendo and Microsoft accounts if you wanted your skins, and you can't actually use your _web_ skin without jumping through a lot of questionable hoops, but still… it was _Minecraft_ and it ran well.
As often happens… the game got updates, and the updates made the overhead for the game all the higher, which ended with the game constantly *lagging,* even on the _lowest_ possible settings and just generally being unresponsive. I mean, yes? It's technically still playable? But, why? Why would you _want_ to? Add to the fact that they *removed* the "world size" option entirely (why?!) and the fact that if you *ever* update the game, you will *never* be able to "go back" and play the original version that came on your game card… well… Let's just say that I am a very unhappy gamer.
I suppose if you don't _know_ any better, that's one thing, but even so… this is pretty unacceptable. My laptop isn't much more powerful than my Nintendo Switch - and is probably _weaker_ than, in fact - but you know what? It can run _Java Edition_ just fine. At lower settings and with Sodium, albiet. My laptop can also run _Bedrock Edition_ just fine, even at _higher_ settings! I'm pretty sure my New 2DS XL can run _that_ version of _Minecraft_ perfectly well, too, so… why the heck can't the _Nintendo Switch,_ of all things?
    *Edit:*
Yes, I'm talking specifically about the physical version of Mojang's _Minecraft_ for Nintendo Switch released in 2018 onward by Mojang, *not* the version released in 2017 by 4J Studios.

    • @Chorismos

I have this version and recently did the 1.18 update. I found that it is definitely slow to load chunks, and load in general. However, I find it far easier to control and build large structures with it in creative, and I have not had a single problem with lag that is enough to annoy me, although sometimes there are little quirks like a sound coming in too late. Sometimes, turn the console on and have a Minecraft world already loaded, it will go really slow, like 2 frames per second, until I go out of that world and back in, but I just see that as a quirk, and I have played games just as laggy on my tablet. In fact the only type of “unusable lag” that I have experienced in the game has been an actual part of the game that even PC versions have: distance effects. If you teleport farther than like 1.5 million of so blocks from spawn point, you will start to end up with jitter when walking toward or away from spawn point, but not side to side, and certain objects will not look right. This effect doubles every time you go twice as far, until the game completely breaks.

I have the 3DS version(more specifically all "New Nintendo 3DS" systems) of Minecraft and from what I can remember, I never had performance issues with it. You get about 8 skin packs (including Mario) and a few texture packs, (or maybe the other way around) it also has a Mario world. Im not sure if its the same world as the one on the switch tho. Im not sure what the price is, as I got it for Easter. I'm assuming it's 20-30 dollars. As good as it seems, it's not actually that great.
    1. Limit to worlds
You can only make about 10, which was a huge downfall for me when on my ps3 I have possibly over 50 or 100 worlds.
    2. Barely any items
Im not even sure what version it is, but im pretty sure there isn't even stuff from 1.12. There might not even be any specific version, it could just have random blocks.
Would I recommend it? No. Although you get "freebies," the price is really only a bit cheaper if you were gonna buy the texture packs and skins. The limit to worlds and blocks just isn't worth it, just buy pocket edition if you want to play minecraft, and then you'll get to have any worlds and blocks you want. Plus, you'll have free skins because you can just download skins from like skinseed or a skin website.
    Edit 10/6/21:
I checked the E Store and the latest update for minecraft was on 1/15/19. Its stated as "1.9," but in the description of the update, it states its the same as MCPD 1.1.5. So in other words, woodland mansions.
