Is it just me, or does DK West got a major ego issue? He sees Zuko trying to be like him as an attack on his reputation, tells Zuke to stop blaming him for everything, then blamed Zuke for everything that went wrong in college and expects him to apologize. What really sets me off is how he ignores Zuke’s phone calls for what appears to be years, then shows up to steal B2 Junction’s fans and still expects some sort of apology from Zuke. West may be egotistical and foolish but can you blame him for having an ego when he is implied to have once tried to overthrow NSR just like his brother is doing, all on his own with his rapping? He used to be really good at what he did, but he failed to bring about change like he went out to do. His brother also is essentially one-upping him at every turn. Nadia preferred Zuke to West. Zuke has more fans than him now. West didn't see this as Zuke pursuing what he loved inspired by West, he instead saw it as Zuke continuously showing West that he's a failure. He failed in college, he failed to have the girl of his dreams, and he failed to bring change to Vinyl City, and Zuke one-upped him by getting a Masters, being with his dream girl, and beginning to bring about the same change as he tried to. You’re watching a Nintendo Direct and the screen goes black. Everything stops. Then, a song. “I’m a little zonkey, heehaw, heehaw!” Followed by laughing. [Ewah! DK West in the house!]
I kinda like how Mayday doesn't really rhyme as good as DK West or Zuke, it's not something she is used to and it's not easy, but still does a great job rapping
As a personal Malaysian, I find myself wanting to retort at DK West in Malay myself (like the drumset, oi memanglah orang marah kalau jual tu drumset, bukan main mahal punya benda, kau pergi jual tu ngapa?? hah? bikin paloi punya orang) even though my Malay is a mix of Labuan and Sarawkian slang lmao That aside, man his music bops Proud to see a game this good made by a Malaysian company, even in spite of the few bugs and stuff I noticed here and there while watching some videos.
There's also a trick where you can hit the home button and then hit it again right when the song would go to the shadow bull phase. This allowd you to skip the avoiding red guys part
Gaming with Smiles Someone else shared that, I beat his second phase legit, but yeah, for his third? Had to use that cheat, so glad someone discovered that!
Little bits I noticed: If you look at the traps in the 2nd part in Zuke’s parts, when he says NSR the little red crab traps pop up in that shape: 10:22 Also, when he says “bring our powers together,” the crabs follow in a way that the hands are forced to stick close together: 10:36 As some people mentioned, the crabs spell out eve when he mentioned Nadia: 6:09 When DK says og, the crabs spell out og: 18:57 When DK says “heart sings,” a little heart appears: 20:50 21:43 :crabs spell out B2J
Not sure if it's depression or not but from this and his interactions with Eve, it does seem to imply that Zuke wasn't on the beat place on his younger years... Maybe some lack of confidence, since he express some gratitude about that towards Eve
Something of note: Both DK West and Eve put Mayday and Zuke in separate corridors and attack them separately, including specifically a section where Mayday is mainly the one being attacked and they voice their jealousy over her supposed relationship with Zuke.
Makes you wonder. If West was able to threaten the NSR when he was just trying to make music, imagine what he might have accomplished if he had actually been serious about stopping them.
I'm not the only one who noticed that the first battle's "DK WEST" part and second battle's one are different. The second one is more divided. The first was more in unison and confidence.
Anyone else notice that the DK West chanting changes tones between the first and second encounter. The chanting for the first seems more free and supportive while it seems forced for the second.
I like that West keeps playing the tape recorder, not because it embarrasses Zuke but because it reminds him of a time that Zuke didn't hate him, and they had a normal brotherly relationship.
Zuke in one moment speaks his language ( 1:23 ), so yeah, probably doesn't talk with the same accent because Zuke actually completed School, and learned english.
22:37: Um... Excuse me! Is it okay right now here on this spot if I, Aku, the Shapeshifting Master of Darkness, can just go ahead and unleash an unspeakable evil on Vinyl City? I can do that while you two foolish punk rockers and foolish punk rapper, wielding magic hands, waste your time trying to make amends with each other over this petty squabbling... instead of stepping fourth to high-five me!”
I appreciate what they were trying to do here, but does it bother anyone else that in their reconciliation they...really don't do _anything_ to talk about how West hurt Zuke? It's all focused on how Zuke still respects him, but it felt pretty obvious that the biggest problem was that West had absolutely no respect for _Zuke_ . Taking out an old embarrassing childhood memory-one that he, apparently, had to actively go FIX HIMSELF-to bully him with both before AND AFTER the last fight, even after Zuke had gotten so fed up with West's bullshit that he disowned the dude, and yet the whole time it's just about how *West* was and wasn't hurt.
The whole thing stems from a misunderstanding, west's misunderstanding, of zukes motivations. He knows and respects zukes success but assumes zuke is doing it to one-up him, because of his own feelings of inadequacy when he fell off in college. Zuke wasn't, of course, but dk never understood that until told so (by mayday), because zuke plays into the misunderstanding when confronted - he keeps insulting his brother and calling him a loser when west's issues are brought up. Which isnt an unrealistic response to being attacked and told he's unoriginal. But zuke does go too far at times, there's the disowning but he also tells west it's his own fault nsr burned his car. It's a failure of communication on both parts. As for the tape recorder, that's just brotherly teasing for ya tbh, it's an antagonistic relationship but it's mostly done with love. From west's perspective it was a reminder of times before they were being openly hostile to each other. Smartest move? No, but brothers can be stupid like that, lol
@Idunnaz a bit late to this comment but as a guy with multiple brothers, even though we love each other, things can get pretty damn heated sometimes lol. Although there are no Shadow puppet stuff going on, there are intense arguments.
@@Idunnaz West plays the recorder to mock Zuke intially. West then plays it at the end to show the other side of why he plays it. He values his brother Zuke.
Man honestly this was the most interesting and amazing rap boss battle. I liked it because even tho Dk West was talking his native language so did Zuke. Then Mayday stepping in to stop this rivalry fight it’s just amazing. Also I have a feeling they’ll be a NSR 2 idk why tho
I really wish the lyrics were much much better. They're almost always off beat, and there are only a few times that they successfully rhyme, even though they really seem to try it alot. Here's how I would have written this line: "I was stupid, I was dumb, I was foolish, I was blinded. There had to be some better words to say, but I just couldn't find it."
You're not wrong, but by then it had transformed very quickly from a traditional battle to more... rap therapy? It's very likely that they wanted to show that it really didn't matter about the rapping anymore, but it still would have been nice to have it line up regardless.
That’s kinda how I feel about the whole game honestly. Like, it’s obvious they made a good soundtrack before they actually made a game to go with it. And it shows. The ideas, the concepts, the soundtrack is pretty fantastic, but then the core gameplay ends up feeling really clunky and unpolished. Add to that a story that kinda flatlines and an ending that really just starts and ends in the last 10 minutes and you end up with a disappointing project. Charging 40 bucks at launch was not doing them any favors as well. If it had launched at 20 dollars, maybe it would have gotten more attention. It’s honestly not worth full admission.
Personally I feel like it really reflects on the fact that West and Zuke are moreso fighting than being in a rap battle. West tends to rhyme a lot more, especially in the first encounter, because he's trying to control the situation and stay on top, but as the rap battles continue they become more focused on the actual anger between the two characters.
Honestly West is a amazing big bro for Zuke, he follows the unspoken rule that every big bro has to break your self security a lil but make up for it by being the main role model for all their life.
Everyone saying how their lines don’t match the beat and their rhymes don’t hit Even though that’s likely what it would be like in an actual rap battle that had no prep time, which is what this is
1:31 DK West: "I forgot your birthday, you angry." Me: In all honesty, I'd be mad if my friends and family forgot my birthday too. 1:34 DK West: "I don't answer your messages, you angry." Me: It depends on what the text was, but I can see why DK West thinks that's not a reason to be angry. 1:37. DK West: "I sold your drumset, you angry." Me: I can see why Zuke would be mad about that, if DK West didn't let him know beforehand or without his permission. But DK West did tell him beforehand or with his permission, than I guess that's why DK West thinks that there's no reason to be angry.
I know this game has so many flaws(bugs, camera etc) BUT THE EFFORT THEY DID. Every figth against any of them is unique in an way,and they would if they wanted to be like "man fuck it this dk west just do something" but no they did something so interesting. I love the music of dk west and sayu is so beautifully crafted amd they hired an Malian(sorry if i spelled wrong) to voice him,and he speaks the language only when he is fighting he speaks english and i always see some Malian just super happy bc they are representative in the game. I honestly get it how the game is cringe or is bugged..but i dont think is bad like some people are always saying
Whenever he states a number, the attack patterns form that number. I don't even know what this game is but I appreciate how it pays attention to details.
The switch version on the second bout, it is virtually impossible because there is a bug that has yet to be fixed that causes the healing items to not appear
I did not know there were more West Rap battles. I knew about the first one, it's one of my favorite songs in the game, 2nd one was kinda weepy. But the 3rd one, it makes me feel for them.
...Zuke and DK's accent sounds like a mix of Jamacin and Hindi. Or maybe I don't know what their language is. The rapping and the battle's fresh as heck! -Giftbox Edit: I saw Malaysian some where in the comments section. Okay.

As a personal Malaysian, I find myself wanting to retort at DK West in Malay myself (like the drumset, oi memanglah orang marah kalau jual tu drumset, bukan main mahal punya benda, kau pergi jual tu ngapa?? hah? bikin paloi punya orang) even though my Malay is a mix of Labuan and Sarawkian slang lmao
That aside, man his music bops
Proud to see a game this good made by a Malaysian company, even in spite of the few bugs and stuff I noticed here and there while watching some videos.
Dk “you angry” west
Honestly this is the best game so far
Jeeeeeeeesus, I’m struggling on his second phase, keep getting cut half way, thinking I’ll need a second set of eyes to play.
Shit bro that rhymed
Yeah, i think this is one of the battles that two players is a little necessary
There's also a trick where you can hit the home button and then hit it again right when the song would go to the shadow bull phase. This allowd you to skip the avoiding red guys part
Gaming with Smiles Someone else shared that, I beat his second phase legit, but yeah, for his third? Had to use that cheat, so glad someone discovered that!
Bruh i beat it first try after watching playthroughs, but man did Zuke's 1 hp was barely about to trigger me.
Little bits I noticed:
If you look at the traps in the 2nd part in Zuke’s parts, when he says NSR the little red crab traps pop up in that shape: 10:22
Also, when he says “bring our powers together,” the crabs follow in a way that the hands are forced to stick close together: 10:36
As some people mentioned, the crabs spell out eve when he mentioned Nadia: 6:09
When DK says og, the crabs spell out og: 18:57
When DK says “heart sings,” a little heart appears: 20:50
21:43 :crabs spell out B2J
You missed 21:36 where it says out when he talks about leaving Vinyl City
Zuke:*is being very chill*
DK:"allow me to introduce myself"
Always tired, crying alone, had no friend of his own so he hung out with his brother's friends...was Zuke depressed in college? :(
Not sure if it's depression or not but from this and his interactions with Eve, it does seem to imply that Zuke wasn't on the beat place on his younger years... Maybe some lack of confidence, since he express some gratitude about that towards Eve
Arent we all in college?
Zuke in college was me in elementary school.
is he ok now?
Something of note: Both DK West and Eve put Mayday and Zuke in separate corridors and attack them separately, including specifically a section where Mayday is mainly the one being attacked and they voice their jealousy over her supposed relationship with Zuke.
The last rap battle hits real hard, my sister and I always had a real hard rivalry, wish we could just rap out the differences
Makes you wonder. If West was able to threaten the NSR when he was just trying to make music, imagine what he might have accomplished if he had actually been serious about stopping them.
Wow so both brothers used to be in love with Nadia Eve? What an awkward time they had.
I like that it starts as actual rap battles and turns into family therapy
I wish there was a secret final boss fight vs DK West where it’s just complete and total bullet hell and it’s completely unfair
Omg XD
Raplovania
Be careful of what you wish for 😐
The last two battles were already hard enough so please noooo
Introducing: *Three Pronged West!*
I'm not the only one who noticed that the first battle's "DK WEST" part and second battle's one are different. The second one is more divided. The first was more in unison and confidence.
I jus noticed that the red circles in the beginning forms the word "NSR"
10:22 omg it does
It spells different things and shapes the entire time. When they mention Nadine, it spells out "Eve"
Mayday: so this is your big brother? How come you don't share his accent?
Me: or his language, for that matter.
Zuke in one moment speaks his language ( 1:23 ), so yeah, probably doesn't talk with the same accent because Zuke actually completed School, and learned english.
He does says some words with accent.
"Angry" "relax" "rap battle".
Being a Malaysian myself, I recognize that language. That is Malay-Malaysia's national language.
You must understand that sometimes one's accent dies off or dims when exposed to other languages for so long. Its normal.
Yi Ching Lau ahhhhhhh, so that’s what he’s speakinf
fact : i just realize that DK west walk speaking with Malaysia language and also Zuke can speak Malaysia language to

" Not a chance Aku!" " Zuke? You know this guy?"
Guh?! Hearing the Malay ascent from DK West really reminds me of Malaysia. Holy heck, Malaysia _now_ making a good game for once?!
The game is Malaysian
The lead developer of this game was lead designer for FF15.
I'll admit that is one thing that bothers me about this encounter.
Brothers. Nuff said.

"I sell you drum set without your knowledge even if it was a precious part of music to you?YOU ANGUY"
9:25
West: rap battle
Zuke: no way. Im not doing this again.
West: but u walked through my boss fog
Zuke: dammit!
West:let's rap
Zuke:no!im not getting into that aga-
West:im gonna say the R-world if not
Zuke:DANGIT!
I really wish the lyrics were much much better.
They're almost always off beat, and there are only a few times that they successfully rhyme, even though they really seem to try it alot.
Here's how I would have written this line:
"I was stupid, I was dumb, I was foolish, I was blinded.
"You're not gonna pull that stunt on me again-"
"I'll go first!"

1:31 DK West: "I forgot your birthday, you angry."
Me: In all honesty, I'd be mad if my friends and family forgot my birthday too.
1:34 DK West: "I don't answer your messages, you angry."
Me: It depends on what the text was, but I can see why DK West thinks that's not a reason to be angry.
1:37. DK West: "I sold your drumset, you angry."
Me: I can see why Zuke would be mad about that, if DK West didn't let him know beforehand or without his permission. But DK West did tell him beforehand or with his permission, than I guess that's why DK West thinks that there's no reason to be angry.
Atleast this rapper doesn't talk about how much money he has
