Running in button mashing on normal difficulty as a kid took 30 tries between my cousin and I. Going in prepared on Final Mix hard took 1-3 tries by myself. Amazing what a bit of strategy and knowledge will do.
@@gionova1 I’ve realized my play style in most action games is the berserker path of most resistance. Full aggression, all power, no blocking, hit as hard an often as possible. It’s rarely let me down. Balls to the wall violence and overkill often works because games are often built to target people with a strategy and not people who think “what if I just hit them really really hard” the harder bosses in KH3 including the final boss where the first bosses that forced me to block
That is why I keep my plans so loose that just existing causes it to scatter, leaving me to randomly reassign them into the order that ends up working given i run into enough walls.

I mean, Goofy and Donald are really there for the emotional support. We all know Sora can solo literally everything, but you feel safer with your friends nearby right? Joked aside, there is a lore explanation for how exactly Sora's power of friendship works, and it doesn't actually require friends, funny enough.
For anyone confused as to what just happened: At the start of the game, when Destiny Islands was being destroyed, Kairi lost her heart, and it sought refuge inside Sora's. The whole game, it stayed in him. In Hollow Bastion, Riku's keyblade was made out of the hearts from the princesses of light, and as such, it had the power to unlock people's hearts. To wake Kairi up again, Sora used that keyblade to unlock his own heart and free Kairi's, letting it go back to her, but losing his own in the process. When Sora lost his heart, he fell to darkness and became a Heartless, but because of his strong will he was still able to retain some of his feelings and followed after them. Kairi _somehow_ (maybe guessing) figured out that that heartless was Sora, and since she is one of the princesses of heart, the light inside her brought Sora back from the darkness
Kingdom Hearts isn't too complicated if you not being too precious of every details. If you get rid of things that got retcon, things only for game mechanics, and things for emotional purpose only. You can make kingdom hearts story and lore to make sense. Don't get hang up on all the details since the creators themselves don't. Focus on the details that they Focus on.
In my most recent 100% let played, which I count as completing everything in Jiminy's journal, I beat Riku-Ansem in one try, without Aero, and without ever going into the red. I felt so proud. Then I accidentally saved over the file. Don't worry, I did everything again, even faster, then made three save files, and went back to KH2 and did the same there. Losing KH1 100% was awful, losing KH2 100% would be heart shattering. So much time completing everything, getting all gold in the journal, I would probably lose my mind.
Donald screaming Sora's name begging him to come back makes me cry every time. Picture being mean to your new friend all the time, leaving him behind, and then coming back to him lastly after the other nicer friend offers to. Seeing Sora disappear must of made Donald's guilt crush him. Then Donald protects the most important person Sora cared about and is ready to die to Ansem. or at least until Riku jumps in to protect Kairi, Donald, and Goofy. I love Donald's progression from random jerk to best non-healer.

I'm also increasingly convinced most people mash x to attack for some reason instead of doing the intelligent thing and timing your button presses with the attack animations.
Both Sora and Riku went through all the worlds to find Kairi, both Sora and Riku gave up their physical forms to save Kairi, Sora and Kairi got out of Hollow Bastion, Riku didn't. The last time she saw Riku he was barely keeping the man possessing him from killing the two people he loves most.

So, uhh, when I was a kid, I cheesed the heck out of the dragon maleficent fight. Stood on one of the vines, put another vine between me and it to block most of the fireballs, and just let Donald and Goofy beat her up for me. It still works in the final mix versions.
Lol my brother did that 4yrs ago when we first played kh ( were both 12 and a half ) while I beat her head on in level 1 proud I liked proving I was better than him at playing ( I am ) so I dared him I would play the whole game on level 1 proud.........I took me 2yrs to finish chain of memories and final mix......
Lol I remember when I was doing the Undefeated achievement in KH1 Final Mix, and I cheesed Ursula by making my party members fight her and I finished her off.
@pankobby Yeah, in my first play through I was able to brute force my way through most of the game so I didn't learn the value of Aero until near the endgame. After that though it quickly became a regular shortcut since it's the one defensive spell in the game.
Kingdom Hearts is amazing at two thing. Taking what should be a simple plot and adding so many extra layers of complexity that trying to explain it all makes you look like a nutcase. And hitting you in feels with some of the most emotional moments in gaming.
OK who else practically memorized that damn Riku cut scene trying to beat his ass on the original PS2 version? Man I always had trouble on this fight. Also Dee Bee yeah don't worry Kairi really does love Sora. Just wait for 3.
I believe i beat him by my 3rd try, had to memorize his fighting style before i could get it right, it also helped that I was a bit over powered, practically above lvl50 by the time i landed on Hollow Bastion. So no real time to memorize the conversation like others have.

I honestly don’t think it’s nearly as confusing as people make it out to be. It’s far from “simple” sure, and it definitely becomes more convoluted as the series continues along. But at its core it really is just a story about different groups of friends and their bonds. I love it!

I love how dramatic of a scene it is when Sora disappeared after releasing his heart and when DeeBee went "I'm back!!" I burst out laughing bc he really did just disappear for not even 2 whole minutes LMAO
So great to see you branching out and coming to love some of these cult series! Kingdom hearts is defo something! If you're looking for some suggestions of new things to try but don't want to take on a big series then I would love to see you tackle some of the shorter games on the switch, particularly some indie platforming games available like hollow knight and celeste - they would be more like one / a couple streams rather than huge series but I think you'll love the games and that the ladies and gents watching would really enjoy seeing you having a good crack at them. I can't recommend celeste enough! It's pretty challenging in parts but the game resets super fast when you die, and it has a really wholesome storyline about anxiety and mental health. Perhaps it could be done as a sort of awareness-raising and/or charity thing for charities that help people suffering from anxiety/depression? Just imagining all the deep meaningful cutscenes in your beautiful accent makes me want to part with all my money haha :) just a thought! Keep the good games comin'
@@albedo4008 There is no Xehanort in KH1. In KH1 Ansem's backstory was that of a good king gone bad. The whole name-stealing thing was a KH2 retcon that totally changed the character's backstory.
"I feel like this area is just wasted." It seems like that for the clock tower, but there's a secret. If you return there when the phantom isn't around, different doors open on every in-game hour, denoted by a light glowing above the door that's open.

We like kingdom Hearts cuz of the complicated story, iconic characters, fighting the secret bosses in the games to prove how strong we are, using our techniques (except summon spamming depending on the person u ask), the iconic music & playing the game on the highest difficulty cuz it's the same thing after awhile 😅. Also, reliving our childhood by seeing the Disney characters we grew up on. Oh & seeing sora die, becoming a heartless, which in turn creates a nobody

The funny part about him calling Cloud's limit break "advent children" is that KH1 came out three years before FF7:AC. (Cloud's design here actually mixes in elements from Vincent's design.) Now where dragon Maleficent is concerned, this IS one of the hardest battles in the game, at least until you learn her patterns. A big one being DON'T try to flank her because this actually encourages her to use her tail and stomping attacks.

Poor Dee Bee getting his heart broken. I knew Kairi had a thing for Riku since the first world. I ran up to her like, "Hey girl!" and she was like, "Where's Riku?" I stepped right back and said, "Fine, see if I care about you!"
She litherally wanted to go with sora alone on the raft at one point, gave him her lucky charm, and embraced him and saved him from being a heartless, and was litherally in Sora’s heart, but her being worried about her friend Riku is all it takes for yall to feel rejected? lmao, sometimes boys overthink everything too much, even more than girls xD
2 important notes before you play any of the other games, Is ALL OF THEM are important, and you need to play at least chain of memories (or re:chain) and Not nessecary, but highly reccomended that you play 358/2 days, or watch the movie version on your collection BEFORE kingdom hearts 2. or basically just "everything is important, and play in release order, except maybe for days.

To clear up some confusion: in ReChain of Memories, you arrived there due to the end of the first game, which can be clarified as this: The kingdom hearts that was there disappeared after it was sealed, leaving Sora, Donald, and Goofy in the space that remained, which was a location set within 'the realm in between', or essentially, the realm between the realm of light and the realm of darkness. It’s really heart warming to see someone basically replicate my first run of KH as a 4 year old. All the wonder and nostalgia, and the love for this game that will last me a lifetime
when i was a kid fighting malificent i’d find a thorn that none of her attacks could hit me from behind and i’d wait there for ages until my party members got her down to one hp. I remember going down for dinner and coming back up to the fight still happening

Its crazy how as a kid at 10 years old beating Riku the second time on normal mode took me so many damn tries, and now 20 years later at 28 when I play on proud mode I'm able to beat him on my first try lmao
I love Kingdom Hearts, and one thing i like to tell people who are interested but never played is its disney and final fantasy get invaded by darkness zombies. The heartless follow the zombie formula pretty well, small amount of darkness takes over somebody they become a heartless (zombie) who than goes after those still with hearts (the living) and after consuming them they also become a hearless who continues the cycle until there are swarms to large for anyone to control. Many of the heartless look kind of cartoonish in the disney worlds they inhabit, but once you get to the darker realms they begin getting more demon or monster looking, the final boss of the story comes to mind. I will continue watching the youtube videos as they are really enjoyable.
It should be clarified that the heartless call out to the darkness within a person’s heart to control them. Remember that every heart in this series always has a little bit of light and a little bit of darkness within their hearts. The only exceptions to this are the 7 princesses, who are of course pure lights and don’t hold any darkness in their hearts. So it’s impossible for them to become heartless this way.
I say this as a hardcore Sora/Kairi shipper: from Kairi's perspective - as her heart was IN Sora - she was with Sora for all of his journey so far. She never felt like she lost him. And he was always close by and safe. Riku on the other hand has fallen into darkness and she has no idea how he is. No matter the depths of Kairi's feelings for Sora, she would still be worried about Riku. So, sorry, Deebee. That wasn't friend-zoning.😂
im hoping he plays through the whole series! Also the Winnie the Pooh section is my favorite. NGL, just the ending scene from it made me cry, just because it was very wholesome. IDK if that counts as a spoiler, but i really liked it
Relax buddy, Kairi loves Sora, she’s just worried about Riku same as Sora. But now you have a lot of leveling up to do. You need to be at a high level before you return to Hollow Bastian to beat the new boss there and there are still quite a few items to synthesis. This is why you need the guide book to know how to get items from the special heartless.
Glad you enjoy this classic game, it’s a bit dated this days but back then it was amazing. The fights against the optional bosses is one of the most memorable fights in my entire life.
Even as a kid i was not that confused XD Kairi's heart was inside Sora all along... both kairi and riku had lost theirs back during the darkness incident in the island but kairi's heart protected kairi while the darkness itself protected riku... When kairi's heart protected Sora she fell into a coma just like the other 6 princesses who had theirs extracted (but not any of them by a heartless). When sora opened his own heart with the second keyblade the now free heart (kairi's) went back to her and all the other 6 hearts followed suit since they were being used to create the keyhole but were not consumed since that which extracted them from their owners was no heartless and therefore the hearts were not consumed... But since sora didn't have a heart anymore... and his was indeed taken by the darkness he did become a heartless (they did explain that living creatures whose hearts were taken by the heartless became heartless themselves)... Still something was left there when sora became a heartless which is why he behaved differently from the others... but due to the strength of sora's heart or maybe even that bit left that was created through his travels and connections made after he had lost his own, even after kairi's heart left him... that small shimmer left managed to pull his original heart back into his body from within the darkness it had been lost in therefore turning him back into a human... Or at least that was my interpretation when i first played the game... "Ansem" is "the heart" that kept riku from becoming a heartless himself since he also lost his in the darkness back in the island...

I'm in the middle of KH2 after a 6 months break (I played up to 2 for 2 weeks straight 😅) and I understand everything I've been missing out on sadly :( but it honestly makes me wanna record it again someday
47:29 - 53:13 let me explain, since your mind seems scrambled. Sora used the Keyblade of People's Hearts (forged by 6/7 Princesses of Heart's Hearts of Pure Light) to release Kairi's Heart, that was hiding inside Sora since she got blasted into Sora by the Darkness destroying the Heart of the Destiny Islands World (and was the cause of Sora hallucinating Kairi at various points, communicating with Sora from within). By stabbing himself with Keyblade of People's Hearts, not only did he release the final of the 7 Princess Hearts (Kairi) which caused the Keyblade to become complete and unlock the Final Keyhole (that rainbow door you see in that room), but it also caused Sora's Heart to become released, in which he became ...Heartless. Because he has no Heart. Or at least, was separated from his Heart until Kairi with her power of her Princess' Heart (a Heart of Pure Light) brought Sora back. Also, something similar happened to Riku. When he was desperate to wield the Keyblade that Sora had to save Kairi, Ansem (originally that Brown Robed person) possessed Riku with his Darkness, and now has assumed Riku's body until it was destroyed by Sora in that battle you just had. Ansem now has his "Heartless" form, due to the Keyhole's completion, Darkness flowing through, and in possession of Riku's Heart; but Riku's Heart (being used as a base for Ansem to physically exist) fights back when Ansem tried to go for Kairi.
Like you, I played Kingdom Hearts the first time through HD 1.5, so I did not need to watch the Riku-Ansem cutscene every time I lost to him. Lucky us! Olympia is one of my favorite Keychains in this game. That big strength boost and recoil feels great to use, especially against Riku here. Most of the time I like to use an MP boosting Keychain like Spellbinder or Crabclaw though.
The maleficent dragon fight... I just now learned... after 20 years... the room had vines on the perimeter, you could walk on for safety, and score cheap shots by getting on her back.... The vines even disappear after the fight. Yeah... so many surprises. Lol. Maybe this is what spawned the dark souls faction if kh fans that are gluttons for difficulty spikes, lol.
I know you are a Halo fan. I found a Halo Tribute song and video called Soldiers Aren't Machines. I also did some homework and found a Halo/ Assassin's Creed music dual you might like too. I know all the lines to the dialogue before the second Riku Ansem fight because I lost so many times on the PS2 and couldn't skip cutscenes.

I remember in the manga adaptation Kairi says she recognizes Sora’s Heartless because of his calves or something like that.
It's surprisingly painful to watch him fight without Leaf Guard, MP Rage, and blocking.

@pankobby Yeah, in my first play through I was able to brute force my way through most of the game so I didn't learn the value of Aero until near the endgame. After that though it quickly became a regular shortcut since it's the one defensive spell in the game.
Sora's sacrifice is one of my favorite moments too. :)
Maleficent is genuinely one of those "make or break" threshold bosses in Kingdom Hearts. And a classic dragon battle in every sense.
Pooh is the "gimme, gimme" kind of friend who's never satisfied.

Kingdom Hearts is amazing at two thing. Taking what should be a simple plot and adding so many extra layers of complexity that trying to explain it all makes you look like a nutcase. And hitting you in feels with some of the most emotional moments in gaming.
I think the Kingdom Hearts story really started after Sora's first death. Such a phenomenal moment...

I don't remember if I beat him on the first try or not, but in my case it didn't take many attempts either.
I believe i beat him by my 3rd try, had to memorize his fighting style before i could get it right, it also helped that I was a bit over powered, practically above lvl50 by the time i landed on Hollow Bastion. So no real time to memorize the conversation like others have.
It was so cool the first couple time but then it got annoying

I honestly don’t think it’s nearly as confusing as people make it out to be. It’s far from “simple” sure, and it definitely becomes more convoluted as the series continues along. But at its core it really is just a story about different groups of friends and their bonds. I love it!
Remember trying to beat the last battle while still having to rewatch all the cutscenes because you can't skip them back in the days...

So great to see you branching out and coming to love some of these cult series! Kingdom hearts is defo something! If you're looking for some suggestions of new things to try but don't want to take on a big series then I would love to see you tackle some of the shorter games on the switch, particularly some indie platforming games available like hollow knight and celeste - they would be more like one / a couple streams rather than huge series but I think you'll love the games and that the ladies and gents watching would really enjoy seeing you having a good crack at them. I can't recommend celeste enough! It's pretty challenging in parts but the game resets super fast when you die, and it has a really wholesome storyline about anxiety and mental health. Perhaps it could be done as a sort of awareness-raising and/or charity thing for charities that help people suffering from anxiety/depression? Just imagining all the deep meaningful cutscenes in your beautiful accent makes me want to part with all my money haha :) just a thought! Keep the good games comin'

@@albedo4008 There is no Xehanort in KH1. In KH1 Ansem's backstory was that of a good king gone bad. The whole name-stealing thing was a KH2 retcon that totally changed the character's backstory.

We like kingdom Hearts cuz of the complicated story, iconic characters, fighting the secret bosses in the games to prove how strong we are, using our techniques (except summon spamming depending on the person u ask), the iconic music & playing the game on the highest difficulty cuz it's the same thing after awhile 😅.
Also, reliving our childhood by seeing the Disney characters we grew up on.
Oh & seeing sora die, becoming a heartless, which in turn creates a nobody

The funny part about him calling Cloud's limit break "advent children" is that KH1 came out three years before FF7:AC. (Cloud's design here actually mixes in elements from Vincent's design.)
Now where dragon Maleficent is concerned, this IS one of the hardest battles in the game, at least until you learn her patterns. A big one being DON'T try to flank her because this actually encourages her to use her tail and stomping attacks.

2 important notes before you play any of the other games, Is ALL OF THEM are important, and you need to play at least chain of memories (or re:chain) and Not nessecary, but highly reccomended that you play 358/2 days, or watch the movie version on your collection BEFORE kingdom hearts 2.

To clear up some confusion: in ReChain of Memories, you arrived there due to the end of the first game, which can be clarified as this:
The kingdom hearts that was there disappeared after it was sealed, leaving Sora, Donald, and Goofy in the space that remained, which was a location set within 'the realm in between', or essentially, the realm between the realm of light and the realm of darkness.

Its crazy how as a kid at 10 years old beating Riku the second time on normal mode took me so many damn tries, and now 20 years later at 28 when I play on proud mode I'm able to beat him on my first try lmao
I love Kingdom Hearts, and one thing i like to tell people who are interested but never played is its disney and final fantasy get invaded by darkness zombies. The heartless follow the zombie formula pretty well, small amount of darkness takes over somebody they become a heartless (zombie) who than goes after those still with hearts (the living) and after consuming them they also become a hearless who continues the cycle until there are swarms to large for anyone to control.
Many of the heartless look kind of cartoonish in the disney worlds they inhabit, but once you get to the darker realms they begin getting more demon or monster looking, the final boss of the story comes to mind. I will continue watching the youtube videos as they are really enjoyable.
It should be clarified that the heartless call out to the darkness within a person’s heart to control them. Remember that every heart in this series always has a little bit of light and a little bit of darkness within their hearts. The only exceptions to this are the 7 princesses, who are of course pure lights and don’t hold any darkness in their hearts. So it’s impossible for them to become heartless this way.
I say this as a hardcore Sora/Kairi shipper: from Kairi's perspective - as her heart was IN Sora - she was with Sora for all of his journey so far. She never felt like she lost him.
And he was always close by and safe.
Riku on the other hand has fallen into darkness and she has no idea how he is.
No matter the depths of Kairi's feelings for Sora, she would still be worried about Riku.
So, sorry, Deebee. That wasn't friend-zoning.😂

Relax buddy, Kairi loves Sora, she’s just worried about Riku same as Sora. But now you have a lot of leveling up to do. You need to be at a high level before you return to Hollow Bastian to beat the new boss there and there are still quite a few items to synthesis. This is why you need the guide book to know how to get items from the special heartless.

Glad you enjoy this classic game, it’s a bit dated this days but back then it was amazing. The fights against the optional bosses is one of the most memorable fights in my entire life.

The princess you couldn't identity was Aurora, aka, Briar Rose, from Sleeping Beauty, where Maleficent comes from.
Even as a kid i was not that confused XD
Kairi's heart was inside Sora all along... both kairi and riku had lost theirs back during the darkness incident in the island but kairi's heart protected kairi while the darkness itself protected riku... When kairi's heart protected Sora she fell into a coma just like the other 6 princesses who had theirs extracted (but not any of them by a heartless). When sora opened his own heart with the second keyblade the now free heart (kairi's) went back to her and all the other 6 hearts followed suit since they were being used to create the keyhole but were not consumed since that which extracted them from their owners was no heartless and therefore the hearts were not consumed... But since sora didn't have a heart anymore... and his was indeed taken by the darkness he did become a heartless (they did explain that living creatures whose hearts were taken by the heartless became heartless themselves)... Still something was left there when sora became a heartless which is why he behaved differently from the others... but due to the strength of sora's heart or maybe even that bit left that was created through his travels and connections made after he had lost his own, even after kairi's heart left him... that small shimmer left managed to pull his original heart back into his body from within the darkness it had been lost in therefore turning him back into a human... Or at least that was my interpretation when i first played the game...
"Ansem" is "the heart" that kept riku from becoming a heartless himself since he also lost his in the darkness back in the island...

I'm in the middle of KH2 after a 6 months break (I played up to 2 for 2 weeks straight 😅) and I understand everything I've been missing out on sadly :( but it honestly makes me wanna record it again someday
47:29 - 53:13 let me explain, since your mind seems scrambled.
Sora used the Keyblade of People's Hearts (forged by 6/7 Princesses of Heart's Hearts of Pure Light) to release Kairi's Heart, that was hiding inside Sora since she got blasted into Sora by the Darkness destroying the Heart of the Destiny Islands World (and was the cause of Sora hallucinating Kairi at various points, communicating with Sora from within). By stabbing himself with Keyblade of People's Hearts, not only did he release the final of the 7 Princess Hearts (Kairi) which caused the Keyblade to become complete and unlock the Final Keyhole (that rainbow door you see in that room), but it also caused Sora's Heart to become released, in which he became ...Heartless. Because he has no Heart. Or at least, was separated from his Heart until Kairi with her power of her Princess' Heart (a Heart of Pure Light) brought Sora back.
Also, something similar happened to Riku. When he was desperate to wield the Keyblade that Sora had to save Kairi, Ansem (originally that Brown Robed person) possessed Riku with his Darkness, and now has assumed Riku's body until it was destroyed by Sora in that battle you just had. Ansem now has his "Heartless" form, due to the Keyhole's completion, Darkness flowing through, and in possession of Riku's Heart; but Riku's Heart (being used as a base for Ansem to physically exist) fights back when Ansem tried to go for Kairi.
Also; get ready to get your arse KICKED by basic Heartless now. Gravity is your friend; just saying.
Like you, I played Kingdom Hearts the first time through HD 1.5, so I did not need to watch the Riku-Ansem cutscene every time I lost to him. Lucky us!
Olympia is one of my favorite Keychains in this game. That big strength boost and recoil feels great to use, especially against Riku here. Most of the time I like to use an MP boosting Keychain like Spellbinder or Crabclaw though.

The maleficent dragon fight... I just now learned... after 20 years... the room had vines on the perimeter, you could walk on for safety, and score cheap shots by getting on her back....
The vines even disappear after the fight. Yeah... so many surprises. Lol.
Maybe this is what spawned the dark souls faction if kh fans that are gluttons for difficulty spikes, lol.
