Hi, thanks for update. I love watching these after storm videos. Erosion getting pretty bad out here, cape breton island. NS canada. Storm surge starting to come in much further, stronger, thx for video!
Yes, most places on sandy beaches are seeing more erosion. I will post some videos of before and after this winter and the sand dune loss is significant.
We have a lot of erosion along Shore Road in Eastern Passage, Canada 🇨🇦…. I finally decided to sell my 10.09 acres on Shore Road and that was a relief that I’ll never have to deal with that road flooding or eroding ever… SOLD and I bought property in Bucksport, Maine USA 🇺🇸 on a 4 mile lake, I love living in the US, more affordable and a whole new world!!
I grew up in Osterville. A giant sea wall with humungous rocks is all along the water like on a jetty. I have never seen the sea wall fail. They also put jetties along the shoreline. Not only is it pretty, but it is super functional. I'm not sure why the government doesn't let people build it like that anymore. Must be too effective.
All those rocks do is move the erosion somewhere else. But the billionaires who occupy seafront Osterville homes can do whatever they want. The rules don't apply to them, and they really don't care if their actions are detrimental to the environment or other people. I guess that's their twisted, sociopathic interpretation of capitalism.
I lived on Post Rd for years and never have I've witnessed so much damage. I also lived on Moody Beach for the winter season and glad I left before I left before my time. This is truly heart breaking but as long as everyone is safe and alive that's all that matters ❤
Thanks for the comments guys. At one time it wasn't to close to the road but, with a rising ocean, it is now an issue. The tough decision is when to tear down and rebuild vs repair and patch.
I'm watching this video 2 months after the storm occurred, and I feel so bad for those who lost their houses and property. They have a beautiful view but you better make sure you have a proper seawall. I'd be a little nervous living there every time a storm is coming. Thanks for sharing this.
@@karenfarrell6977 You could call the Kennebunk town office. I doubt it will be closed as it is a daily recreation stop for hundreds of people every decent day.
Insurance does not issue flood insurance policies only the US Government offers this type of insurance and these properties do not appear to be build to qualify for flood insurance?
@alanCalhoun2 It’s like Florida. The old insurance was fine. Everything will transition. Once a storm comes, things change. More growth (which maine has experienced and is experiencing) - it never has been government based insurance as far as I know. Everything is changing everywhere with Mother Nature and the increase of building and movement of people. It’s realy sad. It’s called incrementalism. In very way, shape and form.
You can get insurance on most of these homes. Expect to pay as much as $10K. The fema flood area is set by the government. @@alanCalhoun2 Thank you for the comment.

Do you know if Lafayette ocean front resort made it through the storm. We stay there a few times a year. I would love to see video on how they made out.
MARYLANDER here! MD has many rules and regulations ! We have a Barrier Island, Assateague Island State Seashore and National Park! Only camping is allowed on our Barrier Island . That Island was formed by the 1938 Hurricane that slammed into New England! Assateague Island is the home of the famous Chincoteague Island wild ponies! I am very glad the BLUE state of MD has regulations!
Florida in the other hand permits development of their Barrier Islands Sanibel & Captiva ! Both Islands were smashed by Hurricane Ian! 🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
Can you please give us an updated video? How is Wells making out rebuilding the infrastructure? I really feel bad for all homeowners who suffered damage.
Wow. So sad. I visited in the early 90's. Beautiful place - stayed in a Bed and Breakfast near the beach. Enjoy Lord's seafood restaurant. The fresh fish and hush puppies were amazing. The restaurant is no longer there. I'm sorry life got too busy for me to visit there again. Maine is probably my most favorite state that I have ever visited.
Correct, that is why I sold my house. I loved the neighborhood but, the storms were stressing me out. they happen several times per winter but, most aren't at this scale.
Storms that rip up lawns and damage the older homes happen every year. Flooding happens 7-10 times per year. Definately getting worse. Property values are going up because people just rebuild to new standards.

I'm wondering if there is any damage to any of the communities down Eldridge, closer to Route 1? People I know own property around there. I think there is a catholic church and the scoop deck are there.
You are correct: Eldridge. The scoop deck is still there (no damage). Margaret worked there in high school. She loved it. The Catholic church saw a lot of flooding but, it always does because it is so low. No damage from waves though. Thank you for the comment.
Yes. Many of these families rent their properties because they couldn't afford them otherwise. I'm sure some of these houses will be sold and torn down. New building codes make for much stronger houses.
You are correct. On average, a little less every year. Over that pat 30 years, I would say we have lost about 5 feet of sand. Yes, it is slowly getting worse. Old houses are being replaced with stronger ones.
Yea. If anyone is looking for a house by the seacoast while the tidal waters keep rising and getting worse.... Yea those house values arent going to mean anything when your house is labeled condemned due to all the water damage. Not to mention alot of insurance companies will payout for flood damage unless you have flood insurance. Youre going to go bankrupt trying to fix one of those houses.
It's a tough decision for some people on whether or not to fix up the property, tear it down or just sell it. Price do seem to keep going up. I guess that is why some call it 'disposable' income.

Great video, but I think this is a huge wake up call for people living along the coasts.
Preachers have been warning all people on the coasts for years.. we are living at the end of the age .. Jesus is coming folks
I tned to agree with you but, property values keep going up as the new homes are so much more resiliant.

Unfortunately flood insurance does not cover anything which is not attached to the house.
@@willburrito9710 Tha tis a good point. Seawalls are not covered and they are very expensive to replace.

Why are they allowing building so close to the water?
Thanks for the comment. Building this close to the water isn't allowed anymore. They are all grandfathered.

Those properties have been there for decades. The new construction replaced existing older homes
