    It works!!! A guy just got his 2021 magic keyboard today and unboxed it. It fit and operated perfectly. It’s a smidgen tight at the bottom, but closes completely.

    I just got the new M1 iPad with the 2020 magic keyboard. Both work well together and I saved about £150 on getting the last gen magic keyboard.

    I initially swallowed somewhat when I saw the price of the magic keyboard but after a year I can safely say this is the best accessory I have ever bought and as such it has turned out to be great value for money. I found that I simply stopped using my iMac 27” and my iPad Pro has therefore become the only apple device I need. I also thought the trackpad would be too small but I was completely wrong - in practice I’ve never once felt that it lacked necessary real estate. Gestures are all great - to the extent that I find I use the touchscreen much less (so less finger prints). Durability excellent although to be fair it has rarely left the house during the pandemic. Backlighting is great. I agree a few additional keys like escape and volume controls would be useful, but no big deal. All in all this has been a game changer for me - meaning that I no longer need a MacBook or iMac. Love it!!

    Apple revised their nomenclature for the new 12.9 iPad Pro to say that it will work with the 2020 Magic Keyboard as long as you don’t have a screen protector on it.

  • @rep3e4

    I would never pay that much for just a keyboard especially as it’s heavy, but I will admit, it is very cool, great design, that’s about 1/3 of a M1 Macbook Air 13”

    I have the 11" MK and it's definitely the best accessory for the iPad Pro. The small trackpad is annoying though, when you're in "laptop mode" you don't interact with the screen much so it's noticeable, the 11" MacBook Air from a decade ago had a bigger trackpad. The lack of function keys is another weakness, the tradeoff of adding weight to balance laptop-like hinge placement would allow for a larger keyboard, trackpad, function keys and better viewing angles. When it's sitting in front of me on a desk I keep it angled back to the limit and it's still not quite enough. If you can get it for $100 off like it's been for months it's worth getting, otherwise I would wait to see if iPad OS 15 finally takes the gloves off and taps into the Pro's true potential.

  • @ryno583

    I carried the magic keyboard while on zoom meetings with one hand. Walking and talking a natural thing to do. The weight of the iPad itself slowly put a slight bend in the keyboard causing several keys to not work like the space bar and delete. Then the trackpad started to give out. It’s neat. But it’s just too thin to not bend under the weight of the 12.9 if you carry it open. A design flaw. I wouldn’t recommend it. Instead get a case keyboard that swivels and I promise it won’t ever get bent even if you carry it like I did with one hand on one side and you will use the swivel where just the screen is facing you standing up and the keyboard tucked behind it allllll the time especially while watching videos.

    The main problem I have with the 12.9 magic keyboard which has basically led to me being unable to use it is the small shift key on the left-hand side. To put in another key, they made the shift key really small which means that I keep hitting the other key. When the M1 Macbook Air came out, this fact combined with the fact that the Macbook Air is the same weight I stopped using the Magic Keyboard and went to a slim lightweight case for the iPad 12.9. I have kept it because I will eventually relegate this iPad to a living room device. Though for me, it is a heavy, great keyboard that is massively flawed by having a small shift key on the left-hand side. This I should say is not advertised.

    Never tell people this offers “unlimited viewing angles”. One could argue that it offers less usable angles than the Smart Keyboard Folio and almost any other case, regardless of price.

    I wrote a python script to count the number of words I typed on Folio keyboard over the last year (~100K). All essays were written in Ai Writer. The Folio types well but 10 keys have their letters all but faded away. My reptilian brain can only locate them by first finding the bumps of F and J keys. The click sound of Folio is satisfying and I can type for as long as I care to. I’ll be glad to send you my dirty over used image of Folio as proof. I’m hoping Magic keyboard is more durable and somewhat water resistant. I have modest expectations however there is only one that I care for - being able to see letter on key after 100K+ words of use.

    Hi Fernando, some months ago, you recommended us the Satechi Slim X1 keyboard, it was out of stock for some time, but finally I could find it. But the problem I have is sometimes when I type a key, the character appears twice. For example, motther instead of mother, or mmother instead of mother. If so, how did you solve it? The same problem appear into a iPad Pro 10.5 (iPadOS 14.5), iPad mini 5 (iPadOS 14.5), MacBook 2015 MacOS 11.3. Thanks so much!

    The screen is floating in order to move the center of gravity over the base of the keyboard. The keyboard would need to be much heavier of the hinge was at the base, like a laptop.

    • @NickSiekierski
      @NickSiekierski 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it would need to be that much heavier and moving the hinge back would free up space to solve other more annoying constraints. I think Apple did this so it would still roughly weigh as much as a Macbook Pro and distract people with the "floating" design.
