Someone mentioned today that they were registered last week, but checked this week and they were no longer on the rolls, so yeah. Especially red states, check often until you've voted. I'm in Colorado, but I've checked mine twice so far, because we don't get our ballots until mid-October.

Fifty years ago from the opposite coast, I knew exactly what the Donald was, even before I was an adult. A steaming bag of gas and excrement!!! I was shocked when this bright, well educated, and eloquent Trump called "Mary" came to my attention. You truly could've knocked me down with a feather.

My mother is a malignant narcissist-- a very intelligent one-- with a psychology degree. I'm really, really lucky I had good grandparents close at hand to teach me right. Mary didn't even have that much, and it's really *really* impressive yes that she's still here-- but even moreso that she's a decent person and not completely mad. But also-- everyone be VERY grateful DonaldT is so very, VERY unintelligent...

I would really like to know a lot more about DJT's childhood. And maybe even his parents' childhood. As absolutely evil and destructive as DJT is, a part of me actually pities him. He's so easily triggered, so easily hurt and offended, and so child-like in his behavior, that it's just sad. I've always wondered if he was actually happy. He seems like he gets joy in moments, when certain things line up for him, but he's never actually seemed like a happy person. At least, not in the last 10 years.

I totally relate to your story. My mother told me many times “ you know I never wanted you. I only had you because your father wanted a child”. I never thought about it until after she passed. I always laughed about it. Then one day I realized there was nothing funny about that. How dare a mother say that to their child. It explained so much of my insecurity and fear growing up. Thank you for your introspection and sharing.

The writing is excellent and her empathy and introspection is inspiring. I am just a few years older than Mary, so I have that shared experience of the times. I also am the child of an alcoholic father. Her memoir is so heartfelt and her determination to understand her life is breathtaking.
DJT has frightened me for years and her observations and analysis of why he is that way.
I love her self effacing sense of humor and open heart. ❤

There’s a saying in my recovery group ,from being raised in an alcoholic home, and it is; you can pick up the behaviors, without ever having picked up the drink”. And that’s why it’s important if you were raised in an alcoholic/ dysfunctional home to learn what healthy versus unhealthy behaviors look like.Indeed, what do we who were raised in these kind of homes give up? And the answer is “self hate “.

I came from a family with a narchissist ,my step dad and I had 2 half brother ad sister and everyone of us grew up broken. It was awful to live feeling stressed to the max all the time. I had ulcers at 8 or 9 years old. And paid hugh price for the mistreatment later in life. I learned slot and I could see trump was like that from the get-go. As a child you try to please them and keep getting manipulated by them and their games of abuse like trump does now. We all made it and made the lives we could but it was very unabashedly difficult. A child should never grow up that way. So people we can't let trump back in to save our children's lives. They should not be apart of his nastiness and depravity. Vote blue for our children. Even if they are magas because there is that pleasing factor that I talked of and the feeling also of belonging to a group of like mindiness. Prayers for that. Vote blue and keep us all safe.

I’ve never understood why you hitched your wagon to such economically and culturally conservative stars in the 00s and teens. When the flirtation-with-fascism stench starts to fade from ❤republican party, I hope you are part of the leadership that deprograms people and ushers us collectively into a more promising future for us all. That will require doing right by middle class and poor Americans by massively increasing the corporate tax rate. Heel your free market colleagues, please. We will all be much happier and more stable for the long haul. You know this. I hope you can stop defending unfettered capitalism as you work to bring your party out of hell and back into the land of the living.

Omg I was a child of an alcoholic abusive father and years later was married to an alcoholic abusive husband. I had the strength to divorce him but my mother was married to him till the day he died.

Mary is not alone - I also got the message" who could ever love you" from my peers and boosted by my parents and siblings. My only crime - being different than those around me. Like Mary, I became a successful psychotherapist and found the people who could appreciate me as I am - which ironically is normal - I just grew up with a liberal heart and mind surrounded by Evangelical conservatives.

I bought the audio book on the day it was released and finished it in 2 days. It was really good and I related to a lot of the family traumas.

Michael PLEASE look at your guests when they speak to you 🙏🙏🙏
(especially at the beginning of an interview)
you are a wonderful person and i am convinced that you are listening. just distracts me so much when Mary (or your previous guests) pours her heart out and you are looking away from the camera...
(if you need to check other stuff in the meantime, maybe rearrange your screens closer to the camera?)
i know it is a pet peeve of a neglected person, but this might be an issue for other people too.. i am an absolute fan, so please take this just as a feedback from a sensitive friend... ❤❤❤❤

Why? I’m autistic and eye contact distracts me from listening, speaking, and interacting with another person. Michael presented us with an in-depth interview. Best interview ever with Mary Trump!

Trump did make that gross power handshake with VP Harris at the 9.11 memorial. It was disgusting! Pulling her hand into his space. She pulled away knowing the game he was playing. He can't stand that she wiped the floor with his stinky arse at the debate.
