As a younger cosplayer, here’s a few things I’ve learned!! 1.) Buy costumes that can be used for more than one character! For example, I use my ‘Japanese schoolgirl’ outfit for Toga, Ibuki, Yachi, and Komaru! 2.) If you’re a teenager (specifically teenager, because younger people shouldn’t really be watching Danganronpa....) who cosplays from Danganronpa, I highly suggest putting a shirt under most of the costumes. My Junko cosplay is a very very low V-neck. I simply ordered a size up (so it’s not skin-tight) and wear a black shirt underneath! There’s also no shame in not wearing the cannon outfit, especially if it’s skin-tight or can put you at risk to those pervy old men on the internet. 3.) Closet cosplays can be some of the best cosplays! 4.) Be safe. The internet can be a scary place, so please, please do not share ANY personal information. This includes your name. (I suggest going by a fake name online so it’s harder for any old men to track you) 5.) I know you want to be like all the cool cosplayers making thirst traps online...but this puts you in danger. Not all people are good people, they can very easily save the video and spread it around to bad websites and forums. Please please just wait until your older and your brain is more developed and less impulsive!!! Have fun!! :)
not me crying while reading about everyone supportive parents and how i get lectures on wanting an “ugly orange hoody with big black bunny ears on” they won’t listen my dad said i have to make the outfits and i am planing it. wait till i come out of my room and show them me in cosplay hahahaha
Unfortunately not all parents will be as supportive... at first. And that comes from a place of not understanding. Sit down if you can and watch this video with them. And if they have any questions, they can always ask me as an older cosplayer. And if we were to look on the bright side, if they force you to make your cosplays, you are going to be learning skills now and refining your craft at a young age
I'm now sewing a shirt from my dad different bc it's too big and my mom was like"why do you need this? You're weird" Lmao I just said "you'll see when I'm done"
I remember when I was 12 telling my mom I wanted to cosplay. Wasn't a shock. Friends and I always did little skit videos using what we had in the "costume trunk", this was just that evolving. And she and my dad were so supportive they helped pay for my education in fashion and costume, which I NEVER would have figured out I loved if it were not for cosplay
When I said I wanted to cosplay my mom was like, "SOMETHING THATS NOT ONLINE?!?!? YES YES DO IT!!" Then I started to cosplay characters from videio games, meaning I had to spend more time on the game to make sure I get it right.
I'm actually thinking about cosplaying a specific syringe-hand-wielding character from batman Arkham knight, and that character is scarecrow, a 18+ dude from a 18+ video game, all while letting others know that i'm a 12-year-old girl cosplaying as a full-blown adult dude from a adult video game.
Another great tip I have, is to cosplay characters that have peices you can wear in everyday life, and that way you can get your money's worth of wear from them.
Same! I haven’t really told my parents I want to be a cosplayer (I trust them! I’m just looking for the right moment), so I haven’t really cosplayed yet (except for an anime wig I got for Halloween), however, the character I want to cosplay, Shouta Aizawa, has a very simple outfit. It consists of a gray scarf, a belt (which would have to be hand-made, because it’s pretty unique), some boots, a baggy black shirt, and some baggy black pants. It’s a win/win for me, since most is just daily-life clothing ^^
My parents never had a problem, but my teachers OH BOY. They literally gave me an automatic fail when I was in sewing class. Even though I was the top student at the time XD
How about 4 generations. . . . I am the grandmother that does Cosplay. While my mother started me on that path when I was 6. . . she has passed on now but she would LOVE how this world has moved on from "Just theater" to now be accepted most everywhere. I taught my daughters to costume, they don't do it as much as I do, but they still use all the skills. And now I am teaching my grandchildren (specifically a 6, 13, 15 & 17yo, two girls two boys). I have taken them to their first Comicons, their first Ren Faires, and Pirate festivals as well as SCA. I feel strongly about teaching the next generations so much so that I take on apprentices. Thank you for keeping that in mind when you do your videos.
That is absolutely fabulous! Thank you for keeping it all alive ^_^ it sounds like there is a rich history of crafting in your family. (I tried with the language- that’s why I used “parents and guardians” so that it could include people like yourself too as I have known some amazing grandparents who have been cosplaying with their grandkids. That is insanely gorgeous when it is seen at conventions.)
I'm 11 and I rlly wanna start cosplay but my sister would make fun of me and my parents would say that "I'm not letting you spend your money on a stupid costume!" But I've wanted to do it since I was 7 when I saw a cosplayer for the first time, I felt that feeling, the one where you know that's what you wanna do, I haven't told many people that I wanna cosplay.
I'm a young cosplayer and i enjoy all the support from my parents, but the kids at my school downgrade me and make me feel like im a servant or a nobody.
Kids can be cruel. Just remember that school isn’t forever and there will be a whole grouping of people out there who will be your kind of people. You just need to get through the tough stuff to get to the good :)
:( yeah its difficult somtimes..i cosplayed Emma from the promised neverland to school today, and i got multiple rude remarks and people who just plain out asked "why?"
My mom was the person who first introduced me to cosplay and my little 10 year old mind was blown that people could play dress up professionally. That was about 5 years ago. Since then I've learned so much about crafting, sewing, and cosplaying that I've started making costumes for both me and her. Together we like to do group cosplays and going to cons has become a huge bonding experience for us. Thank you so much for making this video and this channel Kirilee because you are teaching and inspiring so many newbie and veteran cosplayers!
You are both the inspiration from where I am sitting ^_^ to have that bonding experience is something I wish I had. I got into cosplay when I was pretty much just leaving home, so my parents never got too much involved. I think both of my folks would have enjoyed it if they gave themselves the permission to get involved with me (and if I was a bit younger when I started)
Thats so nice!! I like it when parents are chill with their kids my parents won't even let me dress up on halloween cuz they think its a waste of money, ig there goes my chances of cosplsying rip
Bel- you could always start small. Cosplaying using items from your closet or thrifting. Maybe learn a little bit is sewing if you don’t know how to yet. Build your skills until you can afford to buy your own cosplay/ tools :)
I ask my mom “What can I do to get this cosplay? It’s $___.” and she will tell me how many chores I have to do, what grades I have to get, or something similar. We just started this agreement, and I have earned one Monokuma cosplay and I will be able to order it in a few weeks!
I'm a 13 year old girl that always used to love cosplay, and I'm still aiming to be a cosplayer someday! The huge problem is,,, My family doesn't support me, and always says mean things to me when I try asking them help or just simply asking their permission to do cosplay, even if it is unprofessional and I have to work it out alone you know? They say cosplay it's "retarded stuff", etc. Plus they think I can't cosplay male characters only because I'm a girl. Do you have any tips or advices to what I should do about it? 😞
Tough one. I think over time they will change their mind. I would say just continue crafting. They probably don’t understand that crossplay is very normal as it is about the love for the character, not because you want to be the opposite gender (but if you did, that is okay too!) Take this time over the next 3-5 years to craft cosplays where you can and build up the artistic side. They may not get it yet, but over time as you build more and more impressive outfits, they will. My parents didn’t understand it either, though I was double your age when I started. However over time, my parents have accepted it and have seen the opportunities it has given me and are now proud with what I have achieved
For children cosplayers, here’s some ideas from some half-child friendly anime’s Eri (My hero academia) Nezuko (Bloody anime, but from demon slayer) Tanjiro (Demon slayer) Kota (My hero academia) Himiko Toga - 13+ (my hero acadamia) Any my melody characters! *I would say danganronpa but that has some not the best things so-*
I never had a problem with my mother’s side and my mother when it comes to cosplaying but my father and his side of the family are relatively split about accepting my hobby of dressing up as a woman or a cartoon character. My aunts and uncles (on my father’s side) were rather vocal about their opinions about why I dressed up as Audrey Hepburn or Eliza Schuyler and if this hobby is gonna be just a phase but I told them I will not stop cosplaying and dressing up more feminine.
At the end of the day, you have to live your life as you want to and be true to yourself. If you feel like the best version of you dressing more feminine, then do it. They may not like it, but they will come around one day I hope.
yeah when i told my mom that i could just get the shirt that i wanted for easter back in december-january she was like “maybe this phase will be over by easter” like mom its not a phase lmfao..
I’m a young cosplayer and I love doing it! My parents don’t mind that I do it, I told my mom that I wanted to cosplay and she was totally fine with it! I am really happy that she lets me cosplay!
My mum would come to manifest and even volunteer back in the day. It took me having my own kids to realise she was super bored but wanted to connect with my sister and I. Im so grateful she did that.
Here is a tip for making cosplays that I learnt; If you can find one that is the right material, texture or thickness, you can use old blankets if you don't have any fabric!
My mom's gotten use to my cosplay adventures. I started getting seriously involved after university but she is now the official stitch ripper! I even got her to sew more due to having to make masks. She keeps saying 'no more crazy projects!' No glittery fabric!. All while knowing I'm back in figure skating and dresses need to vomit sparkle. I even belong to a local sewing forum.
stuff i learnt as a young cosplayer: try doing characters you can closet cosplay, i mean characters who wear normal clothes, examples are tpn characters, L, and that stuff, plus if you dont wanna look odd to the normies when you go home you can just remove your wig and pretend it never happened try doing simpler characters, if your younger you probably have less experience so try simpler characters if you are gonna do characters who have unique clothes that cant be closet cosplayed like miu iruma, check places like amazon or aliexpress or cosplay websites but always check reviews wear shorts under your skirt if your wearing one, incase you drop something or trip on some weird way like mikan people will probably see up your skirt but you dont have to be young to do this, i suggest this to everyone you probably havent gone to a lot of conventions or places you cosplay and wouldnt have much experience but if someone follows you go up to a group of people or pair ( as long as there or 2 or more people but i suggest around 4 ) and tell them, you dont need to know them and ask them if you can stick with them till they stop following plus you might even find people with the same interests and make a new friend try not to do characters in showy outfits, but if you do wear skin colored clothes under if you have these stuff you shouldn't throw them away, these are super useful: sailor fuku ( school outfit ) short brown/black wig white button up shirt black skirt blue skirt ribbon of any color black or white knee high socks
my parents don’t seem to fully understand cosplaying, but they like to help me when they can, be it financially or their knowledge of creative things that are good for cosplay.
Science has proven that there needs to be satisfactory time given to pursuing creative leisure activities to improve creative thinking and problem solving skills.
It’s funny that my mom was the one that introduced me to anime. She watched sailor moon as a kid and that was my first anime. If I never watched that anime, I probably would’ve never seen more anime’s and want to cosplay these characters
2:40 you can also make the costumes less revealing by adding cloth to revealing areas, choosing a different costume that they wore, or doing a closet cosplay.
2021 it's my year to start cosplaying seriously, I'm 13 so I will start by someone like Killua Zoldyck, Ciel Phantomhive, Nezuko Kamado... The only thing I have to find? *M O N E Y* ✨
@@KirileeCosplay I found something in 40/50 EUR (I'm Italian, so that's a little more than 40/50 USD) But I don't think I will buy something before the half of February. I wanted to walk in my city with something on at Carnival, but probably I can't rip (The three cosplays are sets, then with wig, clothes and shoes/accessories) But thanks!
Same im 14 I ask my dad if I can cosplay as an anime character so he buy me an cosplay the one we can afford first sometimes I just look for my closets I buy aot cosplay which is just affordable I don't even need to buy a wig cause my hair is just the same as the character
@@brdxeexe Diy, closet cosplay, etc. im making a teru minamoto cosplay and im making the red thing in his shirt (sorry forgot the name) With a red fabric bag, the tie is gonna be made out of my mom’s tie :D
My mom is kinda like that. She doesn't care if I cosplay (okay, she would totally love helping me with stuff like makeup and hair). She accepts my weebness. 😄
Hey I have the same age as you, and I just wanted to ask if you go to cosplay events or meetups, if yes, how do you kinda tell your parents you want to go there?
My parents are kinda supportive, but also just plain scared tbh😂 the sad thing is they said they're not alloying em to buy any wigs for new characters because, "I don't need them" well obviously I don't need them... But cosplay is something that makes me happy and it's a good coping method through the lockdown :') I'll probably find a way to change there mind or smth... :')
It may take time, but if this is something you really want to do, they will see the passion and dedication you have for it. Maybe show them this video- maybe a voice of someone who is a bit older and is an adult will help them understand it is more than just dressing up. All the best xoxo
You could try making paper wigs! I’ve started doing it and it’s super inexpensive. I literally used construction paper for $1 my brother had, and a pack of glue sticks I bought to glue other drawings to my sketchpad. You can make really cool looking stuff if you’re creative with it, so if that doesn’t work out I’d give it a try.
im 11 and i've done a few cosplays, with my parents being weirded out but letting me buy it. now my room is full of props, wigs, outfits, and different things everywhere- any tips? my parents are super overprotective and i need characters to cosplay-
@5:34 What I did when I first started was I didn't buy the whole entire costume and props premade fully assembled all at once, I planned it out over the course of months in advance and bought each of the items and materials one piece at a time and then assembled/constructed it all together on my own.
Bro i remember scraping together this horrendous L costume in year 5 and wearing it to school for world book day. I had a good moment were i was under a table outside reading the manga for death note and some random kid from another class who was there for some reason pointed to L and said "are you dressing up as him?" And i was really proud
Lol well I'm planning to do something special with my friend for world book day this year if my school has it lol. So basically we are going to be going as gon and killua from Hunter X Hunter and I hope it works out, because I know a few people in my class who watch Hunter X Hunter
When I first started I didn't even think about hiding it from my parents haha, my dad says he loves how I'm able to "transform into a completely different person" and is actually very supportive! My mom doesn't really understand it but doesn't mind that I cosplay, I'm really happy with where I am now! Right now my favorite cosplay to do is Tomura Shigaraki 😊
Fun fact! I’m a 16 years old girl and one day I tryed to cosplay a character who looked like me, plus I have her outfit in my closet (for SNK fans I think you all know who Gaby is). Then I saw it was quite good so I send a picture of the character and my cosplay to my mom and I was like « haha! I’m Gaby Braun now! » and I was REALLY surprised when she told me « Woaw that so good! You should post it! » so I did it and now I have cosplay Instagram account and one of my favorite cosplayer is following me! All of that thanks to my mom! Don’t be scared of telling to your parents that you wanna cosplay, they will always support you no matter what! (Sorry for my bad English I’m french)
I wanna share this, because I want someone to tell me what my parents would (most likely) say if I told them I wanted to cosplay. I was in the car with my mom and I asked her “Hey mom, do you know what cosplay is?” she responded with yes, and we talked about what people cosplay for a bit and I asked “What would you think if I started cosplaying?” She said she wouldn’t care, she wants me to be happy and it’s cool. My parents are kind of weird with me liking anime and stuff. Idk. I would like to know if my parents would say yes to cosplay. I feel like my extended family would judge me or something. Maybe I’m overthinking this😂
I'm a little confused by your story - did this happen yet or have you kind of planned it out in your mind? Either way, I say just do it. Have the conversation with your mum first. Whether you tell your extended family, that is completely up to you. Your happiness will always be important to your parents.
when I first did cosplay I wanted my dad to buy me a wig cause I didn’t/don’t have my own source of income but I hadn’t told him about cosplay ever before so when I asked him he was weirded out a bit cause he’d never heard of cosplay. he did get me the wig tho, and he still thinks it’s weird but he also just lets me like what I like. he even gets me cosplay things for my bday and he even got me a sewing machine this Christmas so I can make my own cosplays now.
A tip for older teens! (16-18) buddy up when at a con! Never go alone in cosplay, esspecially big armour or skimpier cosplays! Somtimes you need someone to hold your stuff, sew you in, or be an extra layer of protection around creeps! Also, if someone si making you uncomfortable say somthing! go to staff, they're there to help you!
As someone who doesn't plan on having children, but if it happens if happens, I would love to cosplay with my child or family. Especially as they get older and they can be made together, it can always become a learning experience. Like it takes trial and error, things take effort sometimes, or hard work can and does pay off when you put your mind to it. Thank you so much for making this video, as these can always just be applied to real life too, and not just cosplay
This is a tricky one and needs to be approached with care. I think it depends on the character/ situation and that conversation should be brought into the discussion. If you are going to be cosplaying a female character, then explain that you just really enjoy the character. If it is a male character wearing a skirt for comedic sake (I think there was something like that in BNHA), then explain that to your mum. Good luck!
I’m working on a cosplay for the character Violet from Arcane and I’m trying to make it pretty cheap because I can just thrift most or the clothes or use some out of my closet. If you want to try out cosplay to see if you like it try something simple and cheap so that you don’t spend a lot of money on something you don’t like.
I’ve been starting cosplaying, and mostly getting my cosplays from thrift stores. I really enjoy it! ..I’m just glad my parents have seen the show I cosplay from because one of the characters I want to cosplay wears fishnet stockings that just barely show (it’s under some suit pants, it’s not revealing- Beelzebub from Good Omens) and I would rather not ask for a pair without them having context 😭
Thank you for making This video about 4 tips for young cosplayers and the parents/guardians of the young cosplayer! I’ll maybe send This to my father first, just to hint it :) I’ve been wanting to cosplay Tokoyami Fumikage for a while now, but I’ve struggled with telling my parents!
I think most parents would be fine with kids showing a bit of skin like their stomach, if their around 12+ :) lots of kids wear bikinis after all. It could make them feel a bit more confident with their body so later in their life, when they cosplay they will be used to showing a bit of skin :)
A good point, however, we are talking about a public space not the beach. If it is something you would wear to the movies with friends, then that is a good point to work from
I'm a 13 year old cosplayer and a tip I have for revealing cosplays is to wear leggings under miniskirts and to wear beige shirts under shirts with breast windows
My 7 year old cousin loves cosplaying and I always cosplay with her 😄 (She dresses up as Yachi and I dress up as Kiyoko from Haikyuu in the manager uniforms but we are not open about it on like tiktok/TH-cam as people make weird comments so her mom didn’t let us be open about it anymore so we can only cosplay for role play ☹️)
I am so sorry that people on the internet were not very nice. Hopefully when she gets a bit older, you can celebrate her love of cosplay with her again. And once conventions come back, she can cosplay with you and it isn’t internet based
I think a good cosplay for11/ 12 year olds is Runa from kakegurui because it’s appropriate and easy. It was my first cosplay and it was easy to make, comfy and an awesome character!
Im a young cosplayer and i really really wish i can cosplay a lot more characters someday, and i wish my parents can be more supportive about my interests. Im planning to maybe make a paper wig for a closet cosplay i have if i dont get the wig i asked. I also hope i can go to a convention! it looks pretty fun and exciting, im looking forward about this and hopefully can come true 💖!
I’m going to ask a cosplay to my parents tomorrow ^w^ They don’t really care about it, my mom even supports me because when I was like 7 she did a cosplay for me of a anime character by herself while I didn’t know what it was 😭😂
I’m asking for Amazon gift cards for Christmas so I can buy stuff off of Amazon I know Amazon isn’t the best source but that’s all I can do right now but I’m going to ask for some gift cards so I can buy the stuff I don’t think my mom will care since she doesn’t really care what I do as long as I’m safe but I want to cosplay mha characters and my brother and my other brother watch that show too so I think they can also do it with me.
I think asking for Amazon gift cards is a great way to start and it’s safe. I would still suggest you tell your mum if you haven’t already- I’m sure that she won’t mind if you explain that it’s safe and fun.
I ordered a runa cosplay, and my mom thinks it’s a little weird but she doesn’t question it, my dad honestly probably has no clue what I’m talking about when I say the word anime, and I think I will be able to use the uniform for other characters in kakegurui not just runa, and I would need different wigs, socks etc. runa will be my first cosplay, and I think her character is okay since I’m 12, but yeah, also Tysm for the tips! I will use these and keep these in mind! I love your videos so much! :)
im 14 and i really want a runa cosplay. kakegurui is a 15- im aware my parents know i watch it and are fine with it (my dad has seen the show and is fine with it) her costume is not revealing at all apart from maybe the skirt but is that a bad idea? my worry is older people at cons and on tiktok that might be creepy towards it or me. any advice on this?
If it is not way to revealing, you should be fine :) maybe don’t post anything that could be taken the wrong way on tiktok or on the internet in general
Hi! I actually got my runa cosplay for my 15th birthday and my parents were completely fine with it, I think the best part about runa is that her hoodie actually comes down to just above the knees and isn't so revealing as only the front is showing! Hopefully you get the cosplay 😊
things I learnt from starting out as a young cosplayer :D: 1. the wigs of cosplays can be re-used for other cosplays or other uses (yes, even the excess hair for wig styling I suppose) now..as a starter myself, I haven't even touched a cosplay I really liked (although I ordered mine :D) I still tend to use pieces from own wardrobe and cosplays mixed together for a good cost. 2. the actual cosplay costume parts can be re-used into everyday things or cross-cosplay (where you dress another character in your other cosplay; different fandoms per say) 3. for soes, don't even worry about what you character wears, I only ever wear 1 pair of shoes (converse above ankle) and it looks fine. 4. when shopping for cosplay I tend to check the prices very thoroughly for each piece as I'm not the one paying for it (in this scenario) so as a word of advice, please check the prices on your cosplays! (less pieces of a character tend to cost cheaper!) the really cheap 20 bucks cosplays are probably not worth (in SGD) buying. aim for something around the 30-40 area as a beginner! 5. corsets, belts etc. I wouldn't recommend for anyone bellow 15-16 (this is only my own opinion) since it can be...well....a little odd. 6. the character you are cosplaying from is recommended to stay in your age range of watching. I know a lot of people around the age I am (12-15) cosplaying from places like kakegurui, and that's totally fine but people might treat you in the age range, be cautious! 7. the internet for cosplays can be a bit of a thirst trap or places where people might track you down so places like tik tok please don't expose anything like names, addresses, phone numbers etc. unless you want to be found. 8. conventions are another thing, places like these for young cosplayers I suggest going with a parent/legal guardian. like the one above, same reasons. better to go with someone who doesn't have much interest as they can see danger before you can if there happens to be any. honestly, my first full cosplay hasn't even arrived yet so I wouldn't really know what else to say or if anything I said is even correct, just correct me if I'm wrong :D Also when cosplaying: YOU MUST HAVE FUN!! its a rule..
Im 12 and I wanna try cosplaying. I live alone with my mother and she doesnt have a stable job and we dont have a lot of money. I told my mom recently and she just said, "Eh, really? Hmm.. Okay then.." and just nodded. Im scared that I might get judged for it at school and stuff and my friends might think its weird. Is there any tips of how to overcome these fears and such? edit: i know this comment is old but thank you for the help! I managed to cosplay one character (which isn’t a lot, i know-) since i last commented this, which is Mikey from Tokyo Revengers!
My tips would be try to care less what other people think of you- which I know is hard to do. True friends will support eachother even if they don’t understand it. My second tip is try cosplaying with things from your wardrobe first, and start learning skills like sewing (if you don’t already know how to do that). Maybe try getting an old quilt or bedsheet from a thrift store and turn that into a cosplay (check out my $13 cinderella dress video or regency dress video for a bit more information on what I mean :)) Good luck
I knwo this is random but a tip from me is, JUST DONT CARE. I have been teased for wearing a Itadori cosplay but the biggest tip is don’t care about what people care about, if you like it.
Since I’m a younger cosplay, I might consider asking my parents about an online cosplay from danganronpa that I have been wanting to do so long so thank you for your tips and help ^^
This is some great advise thank you. However i have wanted to try cosplay for a while now and its a age appropriate cosplay(its Emma from the promised Neverland) However i feel as if my parents may judge me by saying things like "But your older why are you still playing dress up?" or "its not Halloween" when this is a thing i believe i could enjoy a lot and is so much more than things like "dress up"? How would you suggest telling parents that you would like to give it a try?
Well in my mind it isn’t “dressing up”- it’s not a cheap costume that you wear to be childish or because it is a particular day. Cosplay is about expressing your joy over the character or craftsmanship (of you are making it). I view it more as an art form, like painting or sculpture or fashion design, than as the costumes you wear for Halloween. Maybe go from that perspective?
As an younger cosplayer (I may be late) another good tip that fits every age; just because your cosplay isn’t the exact same as the character, it doesn’t mean you’re not cosplaying them! Not to mention that creativity is a great thing, and it can even make cosplay an incredible art! For example, my skirt of junko’s cosplay isn’t the exact same and my tie doesn’t have the white part. It’s all black with the symbol. And I’m still cosplaying Junko!
I'm thinking about getting into cosplay but I haven't worn anything at a convention. My mom is going to let me cosplay Sans though for Halloween since I can't get it in time for a convention. Maybe at the next convention I can wear it. You shared some good tips in this video I will definitely keep them in mind.
This was very helpful I’m planning on asking my parents if I could do a toga cosplay for Halloween and I decided that I am going to buy most of but make some of it as well!
Sounds cool! Looks like lots of people are cosplaying toga, she is a pretty cool character! I think that's cool how your making some parts yourself to!
im so freaking excited, i asked for an ochaco uraraka wig for xmas (i got the hero suit for halloween) and my mam said yes! im fairly certain its arrived already, i might ask my mam to get me wig caps too :D 1 month till christmas, till i can be an official cosplayer! my mam doesnt know what it is exactly, but shes happy if im happy
I would like to cosplay as Frisk from Undertale! They are age appropriate, and they are beautiful! This video also helped me with social anxiety! Thanks.
What i reccomend as a young cosplayer: If you have anything for who you wanna be, use those things. For example, i used my white shirt, drew on it with permission and wore a black skirt (basically doing ibuki mioda) Ask permission to draw on a white shirt.
Thank you. This was super helpful! I love your awesome attitude! Were doin this! Its gonna be so fun! Im so glad my kid is interested in this! What a fun opportunity to bond!❤
I get a lot of my cheaper ones off eBay or aliexpress. Basically I will buy wigs that are between $30-50 and the quality is generally good in that price range. Otherwise. I will get arda wig but that gets expensive
So, I will be buying a few things for cosplays I want to make, which I will be buying fabric for ties and capes and things, but like- I’m looking at prices for a red beanie(Wilbur cosplay), shirts, and a bunch of other things for different characters like Frisk from UnderTale and TechnoBlade
@@KirileeCosplay So- update: going to a con soon, and my parents are letting me cosplay! I just need to tell them that I want to cosplay Techno- and explaining that: If i wanted to do a hufflepuff cosplay, i would have made a lot more effort to it, but i didn’t. I made a technoblade one, and that’s what I want to do So i want to go as Techno- I’m already getting a cape from a friend who can sew(He offered, I owe him 8 bucks- luckily i’m his friend, so i got a discount of 7 bucks- it would be 15 if we weren’t so close as friends) and i’m very excited-
I would say a good investment when it comes to cosplays is a Cricket. You can use them for practically anything! Like, I am trying to do a Sapnap cosplay, and for the white t-shirt, I am just using a white t-shirt and the flame made from the Cricket! I think they are worth it, because you can use them for other stuff, too! Like wall decor, homemade labels, ect.
When you are just starting, don't feel like you need to change your eye colour. Work up to that as you get a bit older. There is always photoshop for photos ;)
Oh yes please, a video on older Cosplayers would be great. I only started at 34. Still feels strange when I see younger Cosplayers who have much better skills. But you're never too old to learn.
@@nayavenne I have a cosplay I plan to make and it will be my first one - IF I ever actually get to making it that is. I'm 54 in a couple of weeks. Better late than never.
My mom doesn't have any problem with me, cosplaying as well as my aunt(She bought me my first wigs, which includes from when I was really young, like 8.) In fact, my mom almost bought me a wig for a character I want to cosplay for Christmas. She says that if I clean my room, and behave(by behave she means help around the house, do school work)then we can buy more stuff often. So, the thing about it being motivation is very true. So far, I've only cosplayed one character thanks to my aunt, but I'm so happy cause it's also made me curious about other makeup styles and it's really fun experimenting
That is amazing! I love that your mum and you are coming to an agreement with motivation to allow you to develop your skills and do something that you love. Are you planning to learn how to sew?
@@KirileeCosplay I don't really plan on learning, but I might know a little bit about it. My mom is really talented with sewing, and maid one of my Halloween costumes when I was 4-5 and it came out really well. She also made her own masks this year, with the right stuff of course, but I think she could teach me a little bit. My sister is interested in sewing as well, but not as much as my mom. She's reallllyyyyy good at it, but I closet cosplay most of the time so she doesn't need to stress with cleaning, working and all that.
I'm going to be honest, darling in the franxx in my opinion has kinda a good amount of fan service and if you where to post your cosplays online then you might be kinda you know (sexualized) bc men are just like that but if your family is fine with her and you set rules for yourself I'd say you'd be fine (but I think I'd be better to go with a character from mha or tbhk or just something a little more age appropriate just to play it safe until your a little bit older ;)
I made my own Anya cosplay since my parents won’t buy it (it’s like too expensive for them) it’s $60 but the one I made turned out rlly good even without a wig
So I’d really love to start cosplaying but I’m 11, I was wondering if you could give me some encouraging words and recommendations for stores? Ty for this video btw :)
Hi there! The first thing I will say is remember to have fun and don’t be afraid to try new techniques as you being crafting. If it’s not perfect the first time, that is okay too! Nothing is perfect- but it is about getting better and better and challenging yourself. As for store recommendations, I would say if you don’t mind a wait, aliexpress is good for prices when first starting out. Wigs are available from aliexpress, eBay and Amazon :)
@@KirileeCosplay omg! I really appreciate the advice and just ty for this video and AGH- I don’t know what to say besides ty :) I really hope to become a cosplayer and I will always remember this :)
the Character im going to cosplay is 7 and she doesnt have revealing clothes at all so thats good cause my parents are like "thats to revealing" sometimes (im gonna be cosplaying eri from mha)
Oh man! Everybody in the comments really like mha, don't they? I think that sounds like a cool cosplay! I would definitely cosplay eri if I was more into the anime! 😄
i have currently turned 12 and my mom gave me a limit of $50 to spend on amazon i asked her if i could cosplay stuff, gladly she knew what it was, and im getting my first cosplay! *dont judge me its a technoblade cosplay*
I’m on the younger side of cosplaying and remember as long as something is not highly revealing you might be able to change it a bit to make it suit you better for example later this year I will be cosplaying jinx at a convention who has a cropped tank top which is pretty short you can change it and add a longer shirt as long as you look vaguely like you’re character you’re good BUT remember if you dress up as a character from something that is either majorly gory or anything like that people will assume you are 18+ which is the opposite of what you want I also recommend going with someone who is on the older side of things
(I suggest going by a fake name online so it’s harder for any old men to track you)
5.) I know you want to be like all the cool cosplayers making thirst traps online...but this puts you in danger. Not all people are good people, they can very easily save the video and spread it around to bad websites and forums. Please please just wait until your older and your brain is more developed and less impulsive!!!
Have fun!! :)
YES! YES TO ALL OF THIS!

Aw I'm sorry that happened:(
Omg I feel bad how could he say that.
OH NOO BUT RUNA IS CUTE
I'm now sewing a shirt from my dad different bc it's too big and my mom was like"why do you need this? You're weird" Lmao I just said "you'll see when I'm done"
I remember when I was 12 telling my mom I wanted to cosplay. Wasn't a shock. Friends and I always did little skit videos using what we had in the "costume trunk", this was just that evolving. And she and my dad were so supportive they helped pay for my education in fashion and costume, which I NEVER would have figured out I loved if it were not for cosplay
That is so awesome ^_^
Omg so long comment
When I said I wanted to cosplay my mom was like, "SOMETHING THATS NOT ONLINE?!?!? YES YES DO IT!!" Then I started to cosplay characters from videio games, meaning I had to spend more time on the game to make sure I get it right.
Hahaha but at least you started crafting :)
I'm actually thinking about cosplaying a specific syringe-hand-wielding character from batman Arkham knight, and that character is scarecrow, a 18+ dude from a 18+ video game, all while letting others know that i'm a 12-year-old girl cosplaying as a full-blown adult dude from a adult video game.
aw that’s so sweet, I think my parents won’t let me since it’s expensive

Another great tip I have, is to cosplay characters that have peices you can wear in everyday life, and that way you can get your money's worth of wear from them.
That’s a really good tip!
I love your Anne cosplay in your pfp! She’s my favorite character and I’m hoping to do one also
Woah Anne Boleyn!
THATS LITERALLY WHAT IVE BEEN DOING AS A BEGINNER BRO
Wow- what twats. Lol
That's dumb.
@@somedude9236 I agree if anything wouldn't cosplaying possibly get someone MORE/better interested in sewing and whatnot?

You can always start low key- start playing around with creating cosplays from your closet.
Maybe start learning how to sew. Develop skills.
@@KirileeCosplay Okay, thank you :D
Yep I'm am a young cosplayer so this did help
I'm a young cosplayer and i enjoy all the support from my parents, but the kids at my school downgrade me and make me feel like im a servant or a nobody.
Kids can be cruel. Just remember that school isn’t forever and there will be a whole grouping of people out there who will be your kind of people. You just need to get through the tough stuff to get to the good :)
i just blocked everyone from my school LOL
Gosh children are horrible sometimes, block them out cosplaying is great :>
:( yeah its difficult somtimes..i cosplayed Emma from the promised neverland to school today, and i got multiple rude remarks and people who just plain out asked "why?"
My parents never had a problem with cosplaying
That’s awesome!

Oh, thanks for the tip!
I have a feeling my parents dont like it as much bc they call it costume making rather than cosplaying
I ask my mom “What can I do to get this cosplay? It’s $___.” and she will tell me how many chores I have to do, what grades I have to get, or something similar. We just started this agreement, and I have earned one Monokuma cosplay and I will be able to order it in a few weeks!
YAY!!! That is such a great story. Thank you for sharing
Oh wow! I would love that!

wow! you actually helped me too with that story lmao
Great job!!
They probably don’t understand that crossplay is very normal as it is about the love for the character, not because you want to be the opposite gender (but if you did, that is okay too!)
Take this time over the next 3-5 years to craft cosplays where you can and build up the artistic side.
They may not get it yet, but over time as you build more and more impressive outfits, they will.
My parents didn’t understand it either, though I was double your age when I started. However over time, my parents have accepted it and have seen the opportunities it has given me and are now proud with what I have achieved
They say it's WHAT
Hey, how’s it going?

For children cosplayers, here’s some ideas from some half-child friendly anime’s
Eri (My hero academia)
Nezuko (Bloody anime, but from demon slayer)
Tanjiro (Demon slayer)
Kota (My hero academia)
Himiko Toga - 13+ (my hero acadamia)
Any my melody characters!

Wait, you dressed up as Eliza Schuyler? She's my favorite Schuyler Sister! :D
yeah when i told my mom that i could just get the shirt that i wanted for easter back in december-january she was like “maybe this phase will be over by easter” like mom its not a phase lmfao..

That is so wonderful. It is seriously such a wonderful bonding experience from what I’ve seen and heard.
Here is a tip for making cosplays that I learnt; If you can find one that is the right material, texture or thickness, you can use old blankets if you don't have any fabric!
True - or sheets, quilts or curtains :)
Supportive mums are the best. She sounds like a gem!
stuff i learnt as a young cosplayer:
try doing characters you can closet cosplay, i mean characters who wear normal clothes, examples are tpn characters, L, and that stuff, plus if you dont wanna look odd to the normies when you go home you can just remove your wig and pretend it never happened
try doing simpler characters, if your younger you probably have less experience so try simpler characters
if you are gonna do characters who have unique clothes that cant be closet cosplayed like miu iruma, check places like amazon or aliexpress or cosplay websites but always check reviews
wear shorts under your skirt if your wearing one, incase you drop something or trip on some weird way like mikan people will probably see up your skirt but you dont have to be young to do this, i suggest this to everyone
you probably havent gone to a lot of conventions or places you cosplay and wouldnt have much experience but if someone follows you go up to a group of people or pair ( as long as there or 2 or more people but i suggest around 4 ) and tell them, you dont need to know them and ask them if you can stick with them till they stop following plus you might even find people with the same interests and make a new friend
try not to do characters in showy outfits, but if you do wear skin colored clothes under
if you have these stuff you shouldn't throw them away, these are super useful:
sailor fuku ( school outfit )
short brown/black wig
white button up shirt
black skirt
blue skirt
ribbon of any color
black or white knee high socks
Good list!
my parents don’t seem to fully understand cosplaying, but they like to help me when they can, be it financially or their knowledge of creative things that are good for cosplay.
That is so wonderful ^_^
I have a Asian mom and she's just gonna tell me "its a waste of time" when I tell her I wanna cosplay :(((

@@KirileeCosplay true.. However she just wants me to study and what she deems as “fun” for me is a waste of time in her view- x-x

You are all talking about your parents but I’m too busy looking at the pretty fabrics behind them😌

im 11 and i've done a few cosplays, with my parents being weirded out but letting me buy it. now my room is full of props, wigs, outfits, and different things everywhere- any tips? my parents are super overprotective and i need characters to cosplay-
I would say first and foremost - get your storage system in place! It will make your parents feel better about it.
If you like my hero academia, my personal first cosplays were Ochaco Uraraka, Himiko Toga, and Hitoshi Shinsou (in that order)
@5:34 What I did when I first started was I didn't buy the whole entire costume and props premade fully assembled all at once, I planned it out over the course of months in advance and bought each of the items and materials one piece at a time and then assembled/constructed it all together on my own.
Good idea
Bro i remember scraping together this horrendous L costume in year 5 and wearing it to school for world book day. I had a good moment were i was under a table outside reading the manga for death note and some random kid from another class who was there for some reason pointed to L and said "are you dressing up as him?" Congratulations!

Good luck!

That is fair! Cosplays can have weird aspects to them
Thank you for making This video about 4 tips for young cosplayers and the parents/guardians of the young cosplayer! I’ll maybe send This to my father first, just to hint it :) I’ve been wanting to cosplay Tokoyami Fumikage for a while now, but I’ve struggled with telling my parents!
Awesome!
My mum helped me make a Harley Quinn costume black and white version and it was for Halloween tho she knows I like to cosplay and she’s fine with it
Cool
I think most parents would be fine with kids showing a bit of skin like their stomach, if their around 12+ :) lots of kids wear bikinis after all. It could make them feel a bit more confident with their body so later in their life, when they cosplay they will be used to showing a bit of skin :)
A good point, however, we are talking about a public space not the beach. If it is something you would wear to the movies with friends, then that is a good point to work from
I'm a 13 year old cosplayer and a tip I have for revealing cosplays is to wear leggings under miniskirts and to wear beige shirts under shirts with breast windows
Those are great tips!
My 7 year old cousin loves cosplaying and I always cosplay with her 😄
(She dresses up as Yachi and I dress up as Kiyoko from Haikyuu in the manager uniforms but we are not open about it on like tiktok/TH-cam as people make weird comments so her mom didn’t let us be open about it anymore so we can only cosplay for role play ☹️)
I am so sorry that people on the internet were not very nice. Hopefully when she gets a bit older, you can celebrate her love of cosplay with her again.
And once conventions come back, she can cosplay with you and it isn’t internet based
@@KirileeCosplay Yeah we wearing planning on going to a con with her dad who we convinced to be the other coach 😅
That is gorgepus
I needed thisss!!!!! Thank youuuu!!! 🤣 🤣😊😊My mom's watching with me so it helping her as well 😂 😂
I am so glad! I hope that you both enjoyed it
I think a good cosplay for11/ 12 year olds is Runa from kakegurui because it’s appropriate and easy. It was my first cosplay and it was easy to make, comfy and an awesome character!
Cool
Im a young cosplayer and i really really wish i can cosplay a lot more characters someday, and i wish my parents can be more supportive about my interests. Im planning to maybe make a paper wig for a closet cosplay i have if i dont get the wig i asked. I also hope i can go to a convention! it looks pretty fun and exciting, im looking forward about this and hopefully can come true 💖!
Be honest with your parents. I am sure as time develops, you will be able to go to a convention :)
I’m going to ask a cosplay to my parents tomorrow ^w^ They don’t really care about it, my mom even supports me because when I was like 7 she did a cosplay for me of a anime character by herself while I didn’t know what it was 😭😂
That is awesome! You will be fine ^_^ good luck all the same
@@KirileeCosplay Thank you!!:D
How'd it go?
@@will0wtr335 Went fine and I got it :D
My dad and sometimes mom and brother will cosplay with me.
That is so AWESOME!
Ok
I use Halloween as my excuse for cosplays and we have a dress up day for homecoming in a couple days and im doing a james from pokemon cosplay for it
Nice choose!
My mom loves that i cosplay! Im only 10 but rather think my cosplays are FAB its super good considering my age :)
That is great you have such a supportive mum
I ordered a runa cosplay, and my mom thinks it’s a little weird but she doesn’t question it, my dad honestly probably has no clue what I’m talking about when I say the word anime, and I think I will be able to use the uniform for other characters in kakegurui not just runa, and I would need different wigs, socks etc. runa will be my first cosplay, and I think her character is okay since I’m 12, but yeah, also Tysm for the tips! I will use these and keep these in mind! I love your videos so much! :)
Thank you
im 14 and i really want a runa cosplay. kakegurui is a 15- im aware my parents know i watch it and are fine with it (my dad has seen the show and is fine with it) her costume is not revealing at all apart from maybe the skirt but is that a bad idea? my worry is older people at cons and on tiktok that might be creepy towards it or me. any advice on this?
If it is not way to revealing, you should be fine :) maybe don’t post anything that could be taken the wrong way on tiktok or on the internet in general
Hi! I actually got my runa cosplay for my 15th birthday and my parents were completely fine with it, I think the best part about runa is that her hoodie actually comes down to just above the knees and isn't so revealing as only the front is showing!
Hopefully you get the cosplay 😊
things I learnt from starting out as a young cosplayer :D:
1. the wigs of cosplays can be re-used for other cosplays or other uses (yes, even the excess hair for wig styling I suppose) now..as a starter myself, I haven't even touched a cosplay I really liked (although I ordered mine :D) I still tend to use pieces from own wardrobe and cosplays mixed together for a good cost.
2. the actual cosplay costume parts can be re-used into everyday things or cross-cosplay (where you dress another character in your other cosplay; different fandoms per say)
3. for soes, don't even worry about what you character wears, I only ever wear 1 pair of shoes (converse above ankle) and it looks fine.
4. when shopping for cosplay I tend to check the prices very thoroughly for each piece as I'm not the one paying for it (in this scenario) so as a word of advice, please check the prices on your cosplays!
8. conventions are another thing, places like these for young cosplayers I suggest going with a parent/legal guardian. like the one above, same reasons. better to go with someone who doesn't have much interest as they can see danger before you can if there happens to be any.
honestly, my first full cosplay hasn't even arrived yet so I wouldn't really know what else to say or if anything I said is even correct, just correct me if I'm wrong :D
Also when cosplaying: YOU MUST HAVE FUN!! its a rule..
Thank you for your input
Maybe try getting an old quilt or bedsheet from a thrift store and turn that into a cosplay (check out my $13 cinderella dress video or regency dress video for a bit more information on what I mean :))
Good luck
@@KirileeCosplay Oh okay! Thank you :D
I knwo this is random but a tip from me is, JUST DONT CARE. I have been teased for wearing a Itadori cosplay but the biggest tip is don’t care about what people care about, if you like it.
ohhh i love cosplaying mikey! its always so fun styling his wig :D
Since I’m a younger cosplay, I might consider asking my parents about an online cosplay from danganronpa that I have been wanting to do so long so thank you for your tips and help ^^
Go for it!
laughs in my dad is becoming a weeb
Nicely done!
Heres what my parents think of cosplay: a hobby that's like Halloween but any day of the year :]
Not a terrible description :)
@@KirileeCosplay thank you this really helps to explain how it's not dressing up to them
@@keiraccullough9390 I'm so glad :) Good luck
As an younger cosplayer (I may be late) another good tip that fits every age; just because your cosplay isn’t the exact same as the character, it doesn’t mean you’re not cosplaying them! Not to mention that creativity is a great thing, and it can even make cosplay an incredible art!
For example, my skirt of junko’s cosplay isn’t the exact same and my tie doesn’t have the white part. It’s all black with the symbol. And I’m still cosplaying Junko!
Agreed!
Hey, do you think I would be fine cosplaying Runa Yomozuki from Kakegurui?
I also got permission to watch the anime from my mom 😊
I honestly have no idea who that is but I would start on aliexpree
I'm thinking about getting into cosplay but I haven't worn anything at a convention. My mom is going to let me cosplay Sans though for Halloween since I can't get it in time for a convention. Maybe at the next convention I can wear it. You shared some good tips in this video I will definitely keep them in mind.
How do you know? Have you asked her?
@@KirileeCosplay Yeah I asked her and she is going to let me get the stuff!
im getting a cosplay this really helped thank you:)
Awesome! Good luck with your journey
4:53 me and my grandmother want to do a matching cosplay of young Sophie hatter and old/cursed Sophie hatter. (From howls moving castle).
That is absolutely gorgeous!
This was very helpful I’m planning on asking my parents if I could do a toga cosplay for Halloween and I decided that I am going to buy most of but make some of it as well!
That’s awesome!
Honestly - most wigs will come with a free wig cap ^_^
I would like to cosplay as Frisk from Undertale! They are age appropriate, and they are beautiful! This video also helped me with social anxiety! Thanks.
Awesome! Good luck bringing it to life ^_^
@@KirileeCosplay I will try to tell my parents! They are really strict though and my father says cosplayers are weird.
What i reccomend as a young cosplayer:
If you have anything for who you wanna be, use those things. For example, i used my white shirt, drew on it with permission and wore a black skirt (basically doing ibuki mioda)
Ask permission to draw on a white shirt.
Yep
Im starting cosplaying, but i want to maybe cosplay as tanjiro or inosuke but...could anyone recommend me some characters?
Google
Thank you. This was super helpful! I love your awesome attitude! Were doin this! Its gonna be so fun! Im so glad my kid is interested in this! What a fun opportunity to bond!❤
Oh I am so glad it was helpful! Have the most fun!
Hii! As a young cosplayer do you know a good place to buy wigs? I can’t find any good quality wigs.
I think getting something that can have multiple uses is a great starting point!
@@KirileeCosplay So- update: going to a con soon, and my parents are letting me cosplay! I just need to tell them that I want to cosplay Techno- and explaining that: If i wanted to do a hufflepuff cosplay, i would have made a lot more effort to it, but i didn’t. I made a technoblade one, and that’s what I want to do
So i want to go as Techno- I’m already getting a cape from a friend who can sew(He offered, I owe him 8 bucks- luckily i’m his friend, so i got a discount of 7 bucks- it would be 15 if we weren’t so close as friends) and i’m very excited-
im geting a deku cosplay and im not even a teen yet well close this year ill be a teen
Yay! Have fun with it!
Cool!
i’m scared of eye Contacts and the person i want to cosplay has brown eyes ._.
When you are just starting, don't feel like you need to change your eye colour. Work up to that as you get a bit older. There is always photoshop for photos ;)
@@KirileeCosplay thanks for the tip
After watching this I told my sister and I was so happy to hear that she supported me
That is so wonderful!
And next tips for people who suddenly realize they are surrounded by kids/people half their age at conventions? I start to feel old :(
Oh I do feel this in my very soul. I will add it to the potential list of topics because I have feelings on this.
Oh yes please, a video on older Cosplayers would be great. I only started at 34. Still feels strange when I see younger Cosplayers who have much better skills. But you're never too old to learn.
Could not agree more. Okay, it’s on the list!
@@nayavenne I have a cosplay I plan to make and it will be my first one - IF I ever actually get to making it that is. I'm 54 in a couple of weeks. Better late than never.
Yesssss!!!! That is so exciting!
Fair enough! Good luck
I'm cosplaying as zero two and I'm 9 is that okay;^;
I’m not sure who that character is. Show a picture to your parents and see if they are okay with the outfit
Good work
Yeah no cosplaying yarmomo 18-
That is a good example of one that is best after 18 yes :)
@@KirileeCosplay thx I've seen kid at like 8 cosplaying from mha its for teens like I watch it im ten but theirs standers to who you can cosplay
If I tell my mother she would call me a demon and throw my things away
That sound.... intense
You will! :)
this is my sign to start cosplaying and planning- I FORGOT ABOUT IT UNTIL THIS CAME UP
I’m glad it could help!
the Character im going to cosplay is 7 and she doesnt have revealing clothes at all so thats good cause my parents are like "thats to revealing" sometimes (im gonna be cosplaying eri from mha)
Eri is a pretty safe character to cosplay. Maybe you could ask them what they would think is appropriate for a cosplay?
Oh man! Everybody in the comments really like mha, don't they? I think that sounds like a cool cosplay! I would definitely cosplay eri if I was more into the anime! 😄
2 years later and this video helps me a lot! Thank you!
Pleasure
And it’s great to see a cosplayer from Australia! I also am Australian myself and it makes my day when I hear about Australian cosplayers!
i have currently turned 12 and my mom gave me a limit of $50 to spend on amazon
i asked her if i could cosplay stuff, gladly she knew what it was, and im getting my first cosplay!
*dont judge me its a technoblade cosplay*
That is fabulous! Have great fun with it!
pog! my friend is making a techno cosplay and im currently making a dream cos!
@@reasoninmadness ooo thats cool!
Indeed
