True one could cosplay just for themselves if they like. Or you can do so for as many people as you are comfortable with ( Instagram, Facebook and the like) cons may overwhelm someone and aren't nearly the only way to share your love of any character(s).
Yes, I know some people who cosplay just to go mess around in public And rn mine are just on the internet bc I don't feel like physically showing people my cosplays
@@kole2525 thats perfectly fine! Just if you go to a con make sure you always have a parent or guardian with you! And if you post online make sure to block and report anyone who says anything gross. Some people are creeps
i think something to add about the age restriction thing though might be: Cosplay appropriately! if you're a younger cosplayer you should try to avoid super revealing/innapripriate cosplays. even if you like the character a lot, there can be a lot of weirdos at cons and you should be careful. ):
I'm 12 and I like cosplaying! I usually only cosplay my own characters. But I've cosplayed Betty Boop comic style and it turned out really cool! I'm not comfortable in revealing clothes no matter what so I wouldn't cosplay revealing characters anyways lol
If someone who is young but really likes a revealing character then maybe they could modify the cosplay. They could use some aspects of their outfit but make it more age appropriate. The cosplay will likely still be recognizable and the young person will now be safe to have fun dressed as a character they like.
I'm a teenager and have started cosplay. I made a more revealing costume. I did that character because I was comfortable in it. I do get what you're saying, but if the person is comfortable or with others, they should go for it. As long as they are being safe.
6. You don’t have to look like the character you’re cosplaying. There are so many people who shame over differences in age, weight, hair color, bust size, etc. between the character and the cosplayer. Ignore them!
I agree very much, thats the reason people use makeup for cosplay, that's why people use binders/stuff bras, wear wigs, etc As long as you're happy doing the character, what it looks like won't matter
Asahina is more than just her breast size, so you should cosplay her if you want to. And it's not like she even wears an outfit where it would look bad with a smaller chest. : D
Happens a lot in Asia sadly. I'm a brown man and went as Levi from AoT, and I got told once that my skin colour doesn't match and that I should use makeup to change my skin colour 😡. Cosplay is about showing your love or enthusiasm about something you like. Some 'professional' cosplayers forget this. Since it was the first time I did cosplay, it cut a bit deep. But I'm passed that now and just do what I want. I do love female characters, and I some point I might get the courage to go as one.
I’ve been a cosplayer for 9 years and some costumes I still have to buy since it’s really hard to make/find patterns for. It’s good to know I can do that, even though I do sew. Sewing isn’t my main skill so I just closet Cosplay 95% of my stuff.
I'm SO glad somebody knows the actual history about cosplay. It did start in the US at a Sci-Fi convention. A Japanese reporter came to the US and saw that, went back to Japan and wrote an article about it and it blew up over there. Japan took cosplay up to the point where people know it today.
cosplay is Ashley way more popular in Japan then in the US believe it or not it actually started in the US was just true however it really did not become popular and till at least in the 90s and it actually being conned by a Japanese photographer who decided to call it the word cosplay and there's a lot of people reckon that they own Costco and reckon it's a Japanese thing it's just really really popular over there and they they've rules for their cosplay are incredibly different
I wish everyone thought like you. I've been rejected from EVERY cosplay group I've applied to join because I'm "not a professional cosplayer" or I'm to young. Mind you I'm almost 13. People these days...
I actually made a business out of making cosplay costumes for others. Im a full time banker, part time costume designer, part time cosplayer and eternal child. So...no age limit to cosplay, not a career for me, I love making costumes for others so they can rock their convention (so yes, if you buy your costume you're still s cosplayer!) Keep up the videos!
First of all, you're right about being able to cosplay literally anything because i've seen people cosplay memes and it was the best Second of all, I agree that you can buy your cosplay and wear it and still call yourself a cosplayer. However, i think everyone should try making something, as little as it is, be it style your wig or adjust what you bought or make a small prop. I promise you will feel so much closer to your character if you made something to improve it yourself!
Stefania Sorea I know your comment is from last year but I agree with you. Since my first con I've been cosplaying, and this year I didn't have as much time as I normally do to make my cosplay (I was an Inkling) so I bought everything I needed and atleast made my tentacles and my dualies myself.
Since I’m only 14 I’m going to buy the outfit since I don’t know how to use a sewing machine but I wanna “try” to make the prop of the person I’m cosplaying and my friend is going to help me with the wig
I'm only 12 and I have to rely on my parents for my cosplays but thank god that my moms friends is a costume designer and so she is really big help for when I can't find a cosplay and I ask her to make one, she's actually making one for me right now! She's such a good person
As a ftm transgender, that's lowkey offensive But, I say that wait until you're 18 so that when you move out, you can do whatever you want (That will also give you more time to prepare yourself mentally and save money)
There is nothing wrong with being trans and my bf is trans. I’d love to know what made your mum think makes you trans? (It might for some as they discovered themselves but not for me😊) I may cross-play and cosplay myself but it don’t make me trans. It shows my appreciation for the character.
Great video! My first time cosplaying I bought my cosplay because I had no idea now to make one and I was embarrassed thinking that if I made my own it would look horrible. But buying my first cosplay made me realize how fun it is to cosplay I learned so much and finally had the courage to show off my homemade cosplay outfits since then. There's nothing wrong with buying one its all about having fun and doing what makes you happy.
PREACH 🙌🙌🙌 Another awesome video and really great topic to touch on! I've always been a fan of "you can't spell cosplay without play" Everyone has their own definition of play and taste and you definitely nailed that point! Also... #thanksmotorcyle 👌👌👌
I want to thank you for mentioning about ages! My mom, who is in her upper 40’s got hooked on cosplay when I started. My little baby sister joined too 3 years ago, she’s 8 and likes to help build her cosplay and choose who she wants to be. So thank you so much for encouraging that there is no age limit! ❤️ And thank you for being so positive!
Your third point: Taking credit for someone else's work when entering a competition. This just happened in my city. The cosplayer told everyone that they made it when in fact the cosplay maker was told about it later. Unfortunately it was part of my group I was with, it caused so much drama.. 😣
my mom is completely convinced that me making cosplay tiktoks is equal 2 me sexualizing myself. i have terrible self esteem n wouldn't do that :) i mostly cosplay danganronpa, n my main cosplays from it r kaede, tsumugi, angie, tenko, mukuro, maki celeste, hiyoko n mikan - aside from mikan's oversexualization n angie wearing a bikini top, none of them r sexual at all!! i've tried explaining 2 her that it's not like that n asked why she thinks that way n she says it's bc "i'm young n a teenager". on another note, most of my cosplays r closet cosplay or bought! it's perfectly ok 2 buy them!! the 4 that i have i bought bc i either 1, didn't have the clothes 2 get as close as possible 2 the actual, 2, didn't like how i looked in casual, or 3, simply wanted the canon costume!!
Very well said! I've been cosplaying for about seven years and I'm still learning stuff. I buy cosplays when I can afford it, but I've also been wanting to branch out and try new things.
My dad says: you should learn to sew, all the “professionals” don’t buy them.... then I say nothing and still save up to buy the costumes because I’m scared of needles
Trust me pins are sharper, and using a sewing machine is easier I don't see cosplays but I have taken sewing classes before and I plan to go back to them.
This is an awesome video! Though I always laugh to myself when people say if you're under 18 you need to go with an adult and I'm over here like "I started going with my friends since I was 16." Though when you say underage, I'm assuming you mean a lot younger lol. Sometimes I wish I got into cosplay earlier so I could have had pictures of myself as a small bean.
So, question relating to #2: I make costumes which I wear every year to my state's Renaissance Festival. So the word for me up to this point is Rennie, not Cosplayer. Because of that my costumes aren't characters per se, they're more roles. I'll be A faun, or A wizard, or A jester, etc. With Renfairs the character backstory doesn't matter so much as you are already defined by your role in the pre-established world of the fair. My costumes are all my original designs and some are very elaborate and expensive to make, I'm very proud of them. My question is this: If I wanted to re-use one of these costumes when I attend a comic-con, what adaptations would I need to make to better fit in with the cosplayers? Do I need to come up with a backstory for my character? Do I need to find a fandom that has a character in my role and adapt it to be that person? Can I enter costume contests with an original design, as opposed to a pre-existing character? Do you ever see the two worlds, Renfairs and Comicons, collide in this way? I know I've seen Cosplayers at Renfairs, lots of Disney, Dr. Whos, and Harry Potter characters in particular. No judgement from me, they add to the fun. But I don't know if that works the other way around.
I think you don't need a backstory or anything! Even for a contest. I think cosplay is about wearing any kind of costume, so it doesn't have to be a specific character :)
You definitely don't need a backstory or anything, you can totally wear whatever you want to conventions and cosplay contests. For instance, many people wear general steampunk clothing, not canon characters but rather outfits they've made and designed themselves from a genre of costuming that they enjoy. Basically, you can whatever you want, there are no restrictions.
not all costumes at cons are cosplays, some dress up because they are just wanting to have fun or are proud of their work and want to show people. Literally all you need to do if anyone asks what character/fandom you are dressed as is tell them it's an original design based of a certain species/class of character, it won't change how amazing it looks and honestly knowing that you designed it completely and didn't base it of a character may actually impress people more than finding some kind of character
a week late, but i've absolutely seen people dressed as fauns at an anime convention and other people still loved it, so yes you can totally wear whatever kind of costume you want to a convention!
I started cosplaying all the way back in 2004. I'll be 38 this July, and I still love cosplay. I'll be dressing up as Bayonetta and 2B at GalaxyCon this summer! ^^!
Age can be a cool factor in cosplay too! I started cosplaying when I was 11, and my first one was Pidge from Voltron. She's about my height, and I had that awkward middle schooler look just like her! I also did Steven from Steven Universe, which I've usually just seen adult guys do, but since I was his height and had that soft baby face, it works!
I almost went with Pidge as my first cosplay, but I ended up cosplaying Haggar from the same show because I naturally look pretty darn close to Pidge irl and I could hide earplugs under the hood (I have a condition where I hear things louder than normal and I get overloaded easier. Earbuds help me cope.)
I can definitely agree with the “you don’t have to cosplay only anime” I remember I saw a tik tok with a person cosplaying as Mr.Clean while cleaning a cosplayer who was a dead Nagito
I really want to attend a con in a homestuck or hiveswap cosplay but I feel bad about it because what if I'm the only fan of those there by the time I can attend one? Homestucks peak was 2012-2013 and Hiveswap is related to it but newer.
Don’t expect people to not cosplay a series because the peak has passed! There’s always TONS of homestuck cosplays at every con. Ouran high school host club was made in like 2006 and so many people still cosplay the characters. Go for it! Even if nobody else does, it shouldn’t stop you from doing what you love
I know this comment is ages old but there is always always always a fuck ton of Homestuck cosplayers at conventions, just cause it’s peak is over doesn’t mean the fandom is dead.
This actually helped me quite a bit. I know several people who cosplay, but I had so many questions I didn't want to bombard them! I've been interested in it myself for years, but my husband and I started a family real young and, well, livelihood before fun. Now both our daughters are into cosplay and we want to do it together. Thank you for your videos, including the video about what not to say to cosplayers, which was pretty much a no-brainer anyway, but still good to know.
I'm sorry if you've done this already, or if you haven't done this because you really don't want to, but I'm really curious as to what your natural hair looks like! You should show us sometime if you'd like.
Here in the UK the age restrictions at Comic Con is 16. My birthday isn’t long after Comic Con so I’m kinda sad that I have to go with an adult & I can’t sell my own art or anything there. I would love to go with my sister just the two of us so that we can cosplay together. I’m still gonna cosplay as D. Va this year but I’ll probably be stuck with my parents shouting at me because I’m walking around “too awkwardly” & because I’m too embarrassed to actually look at anything because I don’t want to be judged by them 😂
I LOVE the while age thing. You dont have to be of age to cosplay! I started cosplaying at 12 and i have a friend who started at 10! You can do anything!
I actually cosplayed at 10 my first time (Akiza from Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's), it was hella dope I didn't make the outfit myself obviously, I did make the mask but honestly it was still really cool Didn't go to a con instead did basically croatian halloween which we call maskare 10/10 it was hella dope and would do again
I loved this! It's so nice having these sorts of videos that people can come to so everyone knows and can be more informed on the subject. You killed it, as always.
SAMe, I also love that people go to the comments and tell storys about their cosplays and other things I like talking to them and making friends and helping people out
For point 1 - I've seen old people rocking the couple from Cowardly Dog, the grandma from the Tweety Bird show. I'm waiting for someone to do Stick from MCU Dare Devil. For point 2 - Didn't Star Trek half start most of this stuff, if not popularized it. Cons (I think there were earlier), Cosplay (apparently explained), fan-fic (I understand there was a Sherlock Holmes fan club in Britain that shared homebrewed mysteries). For point 3 - Glad you mentioned the competition. For point 4 - Cosplay is expensive, not profitable. For point 5 - So nopes.
Made a costume for both myself and a friend for this year and ir will be her first time doing this. We had a third person so we could do Lotte, Sucy and Akko from LWA. Our Lotte dropped out, lol. I am actually glad that I was compared to and given the Sucy role as I am not keen on skimpy outfits for myself. Plus my attitude naturally 'fit.' Though I have a feeling even with that supposed "modesty" I will still be harassed. Lol. It comes down to if people who interact with you have boundaries. DON'T BE AFRAID TO SET BOUNDARIES FOR YOURSELF!! If someone gets too close and you don't like that, express it. 'Cause it doesn't matter what you wear sometimes. I was something different last year ('human' male Majora a friend designed) and people kept touching me without permission. Including touching my wig, touching my shoulder or back or my mask. I had to tell them it wasn't polite to just touch, and I wasn't comfortable. They stopped and apologized. Just speak your mind on that, be respectful, BE CAREFUL and have fun!
Great video!! You have such a positive presence on TH-cam and I always look forward to ur uploads. Ur videos inspired me to cosplay at a con for the first time and it was such an awesome, empowering experience. So ty!!
Thank you so much for the information. I am all about dressing up as characters for dance performances. I love it so much I just started looking into Cosplay. I'm 58 and life is too short not to have fun. I have no problem playing in costumes. I Love that wig on you! :-)
I cosplay because it's fun, this year is the first time I've gotten a proper cosplay (all my previous ones have been thrown together last minute or on a budget), in can't make clothes though in would love to learn how so I brought my cosplay for the next con (supanova 2018 Melbourne where I will be Alice steam dress from Alice Madness Returns), I never enter contests but even if I did I would state where I got it, if anyone asks me where I got my costume I would tell them and give an honest review of the quality, because why not give back to the business that is giving me an amazing cosplay (I paid for it of course but it doesn't change the time and effort put in or that if it's worth it others should know)
It’s funny people say there’s an age limit to cosplay, even though kids wear costumes and pretend all the time.I know I did that all the time when I was a kid. I never called it cosplay (I wasn’t even aware of it back then), but really, that’s what it was.
I am starting cosplay this year and I wanted to thank you for all of these videos you put out. Ik these are like multiple years old but they are so helpful for beginners. ngl I kinda wanna cosplay flo from progressive now...
Great vid, great channel! I recently this year went to my first convention, it was a little bit smaller, and I almost didn't dress up because of many insecurities, like the kind you touched on in this video - things like not being anime, or not having enough time / money to make my own costume... I actually went as a general Alice in Wonderland, and I was so nervous and embarrassed. And it turned out I loved it so very much! I had a great time, and actually was amazed at how many people we're in all different types of cosplay, not just anime. And so many people recognized and complimented my attempt! It was a great experience, and I'm so glad I did it and didn't back out because I was embarrassed! I think costume play is something that almost everyone should try at least once lol! it can be intimidating if you look it up on the internet and see all the people who can afford amazing wigs, and handmade costumes that take many many months. But the truth is, as long as you are in costume and playing, you are cosplaying and people will appreciate it and you will have a great time! And as you said on other things - the people that don't, are wrong!
Were you at Sakuracon? I thought I saw you on Saturday but I was too nervous to go say hi XD. I just wanted to tell you I admire your work as a cosplayer and just you as a person. Hope you’re having happy times (:
I want to make each tinker bell fairy cosplay, including Iredesa, I want to cosplay her but don't want to offend anyone, people are so easily offended nowadays. It wouldn't be to offend anyone, I just want to cosplay her, would it be a good or bad for a very white girl to cosplay a dark skinned character? Help!😭
Don't worry about those people! Cosplay whoever\whatever you want as long as you're being respectful (and not like going full on black-face of smth, that's very rude).
Haruka Ardnog thanks for the reply, no way would I be doing black face. I want to someday do a series of Disney princess music videos with a fairy in each. Silvermist with Ariel, Fawn with Aurora (cuz animals), Iridesa with Rapunzel etc☺ hopefully if I do the videos people see that I'm doing it in respect and love for the characters. Sry if this reply is long lol
I'm so happy about her saying about bought cosplays being okay I'm under 16 and terrible at sewing and making so I buy cosplays and I start to feel judged and really feel bad because I bought it rather than Make it myself
My first cosplay was when I was ten. It was Eevee and the ears were made of paper. It was hella cheap but it was so fun! Now I'm getting really into cosplay and since that cosplay was for a dress up day at school, it was ok, but now that I want to get a wig and a chest binder and go to a con my parents think it's weird. I'm glad this video was made so I can show them this, I'm sure there's a lot more they don't like about cosplay other than the price, as they have a good bit of money. Have a nice day and sorry this was terribly formatted :p
Another misunderstanding about cosplay is that you can't cosplay as a character if you have a different color skin, type of body, age, gender, etc. My friends were recently talking about who has a "anime face" and who doesn't, who should cosplay and who shouldn't just based on the aspect.
I did wanna comment about the age restriction part only to say to underage cosplayers PLEASE be careful of adult cosplayers and I would HIGHLY suggest just not befriending adult cosplayers at all and avoiding them aside for pictures and meetups. If an adult cosplayer doesn't see any need to put up a barrier with you and wants to befriend you despite you being underage this person has a high chance of being a predator. There have been a lot of predatory people in cosplay communities who go after teenagers specifically because they take advantage of their lack of experience. This goes to adult cosplayers who AREN'T looking to prey on teens as well, no matter how cool the teen might be stop normalizing becoming friends with them despite the age difference you could be endangering them into trusting someone who will try to hurt them. Cosplay is for everyone but I wanted to throw that warning out on regards to age.
I was surprised that the conventions you've gone to required a parent to accompany minors -- I can see it for maybe kids under 13 or so, but when I was in high school, a group of friends and I went to Megacon for a day and the parent who drove us dropped us off. I was barely 14 and looked about 9. Maybe it's a Canada thing, or possibly you're younger than me and I can't tell? It's probably a good idea to take a parent if you are either really young, don't have friends to go with, or just if you want to! I'd definitely suggest going in a group for younger people, though, if you won't be bringing your parents, and possibly only going for one day of the convention so you don't have to handle hotel rooms. I usually pick Saturday because for three-day conventions stuff is winding up on Friday and winding down on Sunday. I'm 24 but I honestly would never go to a con without someone else with me -- I can't drive and I'm disabled, so that's part of it, but I just don't feel comfortable in crowds. I lost my wallet last time I went to a con, and my friend, who drove us there in exchange for my parents helping pay for gas and the hotel room, was a lifesaver and looked around for it (and found it) when I couldn't walk anymore. My two cents on an old video, because you clearly need my two cents C: (you don't, you have been to twenty kajillion cons and I have been to three)
True on that anime one! I have been cosplaying since 2013, and while I started cosplaying anime/cartoon characters, I currently cosplay video game characters. Which I am more comfortable with, since I prefer video games over anime. c:
How have I never heard of Amino? Time to make all the friends! :D (2) I have a choco-mint "outfit" in which I hand out chocolate and mint candies, that's more kawaii culture than cosplay though. :3 (3) A follow-up concern I have to buying is: whether to buy it online or to commission locally. There are many websites today that have a catalogue of costumes, made to order, some even have the option to receive your measurements to ensure the best fit. (5) No sexy cosplay for either! I choose character designs that cover up mah body. The whole "sex sells" perception of cosplay is really jarring, the attention those cosplays get really perpetuates this unfortunate misconception.
Awesome video thank you!!! I have a question for you! I’ve never done a cosplay but I really want to do scarlet witch from avengers (movie ver.) and I was wondering if you have a favorite brand of lace front wigs that would be good? Thank you! Love your videos! 💖
Kaitlin Wallace they're a bit on the Pricey side, but Arda Wigs are amazing for cosplay. I haven't had the need to get a lace front from them yet, but a friend of mine owns a few and they're amazing.
Kaitlin Wallace No problem! I know that I would have appreciated advice when I was just starting out. It would have saved a lot of money wasted on bad quality wigs that I ended up needing to replace in a year.
Rockstar wigs are a bit expensive but really nice. They also donate a wig for every wig people buy from them! I have a beautiful pink wig with blonde highlights from them and a dark grey wig and I absolutely love them. They’re great quality but like most lace fronts they shed a little but not nearly as much as other brands I’ve tried! Hope this helps!
My first cosplay was the Frankenstein girl from Monster High when I was like 6 for Halloween, the wig and everything skskksks. I also cosplayed Miku when I was 8.
I cosplay, and at almost EVERY con that I've been to (I've been to 2) I saw NO "Sexy" cosplays. And at some conventions, there are rules that say no sexy/inappropriate costumes. (I'm kind of a beginner)
It makes me sad whenever I see someone who feels that they can't cosplay a character because their skin color, gender, height, bust, body type etc are different. If you like the character, rock the hell out of your cosplay and don't worry about it because in the end, you share a passion with thousands of people who will cheer you on ❤️
On the topic of the age restriction misconception, my sister and brother cosplay and they are small children and they love to cosplay. They will cosplay at the house or in public and they love it.
Great video! Thanks for sharing on this subject. I don’t know if you listen to podcasts but NWNerd podcast did a table talk on the subject of cosplay recently, give it a listen!👍
I have a little sad story about cosplay. i'm 12 and was walking in the Streets. I was cosplaying ayano aishi, and she had a short skirt on. This boy, a little olier that me started lifting up my skirt, i didnt notice. Luckly a adUlt Saw what he was doing, and took him out of the convencion. Cuz he had done that to other cosplayers to. But i Will Always keep cosplaying if it makes me happy!!
Another’s misconception: Not everyone at conventions cosplay, only about maybe 60%-40%? So no ones gonna give you crap for not cosplaying. As the first person in my school to cosplay, I get that question a lot from friends and classmates who are interested at attending cons but don’t cosplay.
Wait, if you use cosplay amino, then you feel like your at a convention? Wait, then you’d feel jealous or sad that you’re not at the convention...RIP ( this is why I can’t wait for Anime Boston)
so- i am now a teenager, started cosplaying at 11, and i have my first full cosplay- i previously only had parts & pieces- i dont cosplay anime, but i do cosplay video games and a minecraft rp that i watch(the dream smp specifically, starting to get into Hermitcraft, in which i will be soon cosplaying grian)- im so excited because i am going to A ren faire this weekend, and i am so excited to show it off! ~signing off, Techno(alter in a system, i’m cosplaying myself at the faire-)
My daughter is 9 and wants to make her own cosplay (Chloe from Glitter force) We bought the fabric today! Would like to keep you in the loop on her first cosplay!!! How should I do that ?
I'm really glad that cosplay is so excepting like you can do what you want with it. And there is so much to chose from. Iv only been cosplaying for about 3-4moths and all my cosplays are bought and some a tiny bit altered but beside like cutting and re styling a wig that all Iv really done and I feel a bit embraced I still haven't made a cosplay and I really want to cuz I see a lot of cosplayers doing it and I want to do things that arnt store bought but I like that it's cleared up a bit that it's ok to buy things and you can still say you are a cosplayer
Cool! I've actually just started getting into cosplay a few months ago as well, I haven't officially started doing full cosplay tho, just makeup and wig styling
I really really hope that one day that the stigma over cosplayers buying their costumes goes away. I've met people who get so mad when they learn cosplayers buy theirs over making them, your cosplay is yours, no matter if you buy it or make it!
This has little to do with the video, but something that drives me crazy is when people assume who I would cosplay as, and get super confused when it's not who they thought.
Since Cosplay means costume-playing... I think everyone's done it. I certainly dressed up as a kid, I used to dress up to go to the cinema e.g. I once went to see The Maltese Falcon at the cinema and I wore a trenchcoat and a trilby, I saw Star Wars wearing my shortest button up dress that looked like I'd actually walked off the Star Trek set... had to be done and I'm almost *cough* sixty and I still dress up whenever I can.
On the age thing.. You can OF COURSE cosplay as a under age person.. but be aware, some adults wants to spend evenings at cons.. being.. adults.. and having a minor present will pretty much ruin the mood.. so please be aware if you are a bit in the way.. :)

I agree very much, thats the reason people use makeup for cosplay, that's why people use binders/stuff bras, wear wigs, etc
As long as you're happy doing the character, what it looks like won't matter
I’ve always kinda wanted to cosplay Aoi Asahina from Danganronpa, but I’m flat as heck...
Asahina is more than just her breast size, so you should cosplay her if you want to. And it's not like she even wears an outfit where it would look bad with a smaller chest. : D
@@SyberiaWinxThx, I was always unsure, but I didn’t want to mention it cuz I knew it was a dumb statement.
Aah! Thank you for the ❤️!
Cosplay is amazing and wonderful. We all need to be great people and help each other out.
I can't sew, but my cosplays are mainly made out of duct tape
Give me a Progressive Insurance anime.
I would watch it
Avenger of Fallen Rhyme ima make that now
YESSSS
There is no age limit! I cosplayed as Leafeon from Pokemon when I was 10. That was my first cosplay.
Jleggett1251 I cosplayed misaki mei when I was ten too ^-^
Thank god xD im 11 and cosplaying as Hinata Hyuuga when she was around 10-11 im going with my friends! :D
When I was 8 I cosplayed maka from soul eater :P
i was the pokemon mew when i was 11
I agree! I’m 12 and I’m just starting. I’m working on a Mabel Pines cosplay
Excuse me but progressive insurance is my favorite anime
I wish everyone thought like you. I've been rejected from EVERY cosplay group I've applied to join because I'm "not a professional cosplayer" or I'm to young. Mind you I'm almost 13. People these days...
If the people in those groups are a lot older than you, I can understand why they don't want you to join them.
they weren't. they where 14 and 16 year olds.
@@Kunehosdays oh gosh I don't think they were professional cosplayers either then!
@@TheFlauschig I'm 13 and I've made a few adult friends from cons so I guess it just depends on the people
Bud, join me, we can be a cosplay duo
I actually made a business out of making cosplay costumes for others. Im a full time banker, part time costume designer, part time cosplayer and eternal child. So...no age limit to cosplay, not a career for me, I love making costumes for others so they can rock their convention (so yes, if you buy your costume you're still s cosplayer!) Keep up the videos!
That is awesome.
I am going to prove my mum wrong now!
She said I can't get a job from cosplaying
Can you link q site or something where I can order? Or is it an in person thing?
Sure. Etsy.com/shop/FoxandBearCosplay
I’ve never cared about age stereotypes in cosplay. I’m only 14 and I’ve cosplayed over 20 characters. Some cosplays I make and some I buy.
I'm 11 and I've cosplayed as someone 15, and I believe the next character I'm cosplaying as (Ishimaru Kiyotaka) is around the same age or older.
I cosplayed monokuma at 11
i love that this comment and replies mention dr or have danganronpa profile pictures
I am doing my first Cosplay this year at age 11
Its a closet cosplay but with a bought wig
Hopefully soon I'm going to be doing EVA foam cosplays, I hope it'll be fun. I'm really excited.
im 11, and im getting my ochaco uraraka wig for christmas :D ive gotten my hero costume, im so bloody excited to wear my first ever cosplay in full!
progressive! ads is my favorite anime
Especially Progressive, best anime ever
Wait this was 2 years ago- :(
@@Rainy_R i dont even remember why i wrote this comment but thank u for reminding me of it
I've never cared for age restrictions in cosplay - My first cosplay was Sailor Jupiter when I was 12
Dude, same!
Im 9 and my 1st cosplay is gonna be someone from the akasuki idk who yet
Mine was chiaki nanami from danganronpa. I was super squeamish but I loved that anime series and game series so much.
I’m 11 and my first cosplay is going to be Hanji Zoe from Attack on Titan
Because age limits don't exist for cosplay because it's about fun
First of all, you're right about being able to cosplay literally anything because i've seen people cosplay memes and it was the best
Second of all, I agree that you can buy your cosplay and wear it and still call yourself a cosplayer.
I haven't started doing REAL cosplays yet (I have no money and I'm only 14) but this helps alot and I'll remember that when I start
@@oreo_cos omg same
Since I’m only 14 I’m going to buy the outfit since I don’t know how to use a sewing machine but I wanna “try” to make the prop of the person I’m cosplaying and my friend is going to help me with the wig
I'm only 12 and I have to rely on my parents for my cosplays but thank god that my moms friends is a costume designer and so she is really big help for when I can't find a cosplay and I ask her to make one, she's actually making one for me right now! She's such a good person
When I told my mum I wanted to cosplay... she said “No I don’t want my daughter being trans” that actually kinda hurt my feelings tbh
As a ftm transgender, that's lowkey offensive
But, I say that wait until you're 18 so that when you move out, you can do whatever you want
(That will also give you more time to prepare yourself mentally and save money)
There is nothing wrong with being trans and my bf is trans. I’d love to know what made your mum think makes you trans? (It might for some as they discovered themselves but not for me😊) I may cross-play and cosplay myself but it don’t make me trans. It shows my appreciation for the character.
Nans_ Blockit Sorry if I offended you or your bf!! I’m actually ftm myself :D
oreo ._. cos I’m also ftm trans! :D Thank you for the advice!

Another awesome video and really great topic to touch on!
I've always been a fan of "you can't spell cosplay without play"
Everyone has their own definition of play and taste and you definitely nailed that point! Also...
#thanksmotorcyle 👌👌👌
AYYY THANKS SO MUCH! 😃🙌 I really love that "you can't spell cosplay without play," well said!
Haha omg yes #thanksmotorcycle 😂😂😂👌
I want to thank you for mentioning about ages! My mom, who is in her upper 40’s got hooked on cosplay when I started. My little baby sister joined too 3 years ago, she’s 8 and likes to help build her cosplay and choose who she wants to be. So thank you so much for encouraging that there is no age limit! ❤️ And thank you for being so positive!
That's a beautiful thing to hear, being only 13, I've never actually started but reading all these comments, I know I can
Your third point: Taking credit for someone else's work when entering a competition. This just happened in my city. The cosplayer told everyone that they made it when in fact the cosplay maker was told about it later. Unfortunately it was part of my group I was with, it caused so much drama.. 😣
I love how you handle the channel with so much positivism. Without a doubt you are an incredible cosplayer !!
She is!
my mom is completely convinced that me making cosplay tiktoks is equal 2 me sexualizing myself. i have terrible self esteem n wouldn't do that :) i mostly cosplay danganronpa, n my main cosplays from it r kaede, tsumugi, angie, tenko, mukuro, maki celeste, hiyoko n mikan - aside from mikan's oversexualization n angie wearing a bikini top, none of them r sexual at all!! i've tried explaining 2 her that it's not like that n asked why she thinks that way n she says it's bc "i'm young n a teenager".
on another note, most of my cosplays r closet cosplay or bought! it's perfectly ok 2 buy them!! the 4 that i have i bought bc i either 1, didn't have the clothes 2 get as close as possible 2 the actual, 2, didn't like how i looked in casual, or 3, simply wanted the canon costume!!
I'm sorry that happens. It's never sexual unless you make it! ❤
@@Evas_Senior_Project ty!!
Trust me pins are sharper, and using a sewing machine is easier
I don't see cosplays but I have taken sewing classes before and I plan to go back to them.
AnyaPanda you are so inspiring and beautiful. i am a young cosplayer and this made me feel so good.
Nigel The Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo yup
very well said! i am a guy and some people say that i cant cosplay female characters unless they are a genderswap..
I'm a girl, but I cosplay male. If you want to cosplay female characters, you can do that!
“Cosplay is a career for most people” GOD I WISH
This is an awesome video! Though I always laugh to myself when people say if you're under 18 you need to go with an adult and I'm over here like "I started going with my friends since I was 16." Though when you say underage, I'm assuming you mean a lot younger lol. Sometimes I wish I got into cosplay earlier so I could have had pictures of myself as a small bean.
silverfalconcosplay I started when I was 12. Aha. I didn't go with an adult then.
silverfalconcosplay i'm 11 almost 12 bro
I'm 14 and I've been once or twice by myself
How old do you have to be to go without a legal adult?
Your wig kinda reminds me of Aoyama from My Hero Academia, just a random observation.
Love your videos, keep up the good work!
I can't unsee it
So, question relating to #2: I make costumes which I wear every year to my state's Renaissance Festival.
I say it doesn't matter what you want to call it, as long as you like doing it
I started cosplaying all the way back in 2004. I'll be 38 this July, and I still love cosplay. I'll be dressing up as Bayonetta and 2B at GalaxyCon this summer! ^^!
The Progressive commercials is the #1 anime
Homestucks peak was 2012-2013 and Hiveswap is related to it but newer.
smolmuffin Go for it. It's what you love. :)
Although the community is slowly dying. Homestuck is actually really popular at almost all conventions right now!
I also really want to be able to cosplay a HOMESTUCK character when I am older
I know this comment is ages old but there is always always always a fuck ton of Homestuck cosplayers at conventions, just cause it’s peak is over doesn’t mean the fandom is dead.
Friend: who’s your favorite cosplay
Me: AnyaPanda, who else would it be?

This actually helped me quite a bit. I know several people who cosplay, but I had so many questions I didn't want to bombard them! I've been interested in it myself for years, but my husband and I started a family real young and, well, livelihood before fun. Now both our daughters are into cosplay and we want to do it together. Thank you for your videos, including the video about what not to say to cosplayers, which was pretty much a no-brainer anyway, but still good to know.
Awesome vid! I liked how you explained that people have different comfort zones and not everybody wants to do the same thing
I'm sorry if you've done this already, or if you haven't done this because you really don't want to, but I'm really curious as to what your natural hair looks like! You should show us sometime if you'd like.
I deliberately don't show it because I don't want to.
AnyaPanda Alright, just wondering💙
Here in the UK the age restrictions at Comic Con is 16. My birthday isn’t long after Comic Con so I’m kinda sad that I have to go with an adult & I can’t sell my own art or anything there. I would love to go with my sister just the two of us so that we can cosplay together. I’m still gonna cosplay as D. Va this year but I’ll probably be stuck with my parents shouting at me because I’m walking around “too awkwardly” & because I’m too embarrassed to actually look at anything because I don’t want to be judged by them 😂
Saying a cosplayer isn't a cosplayer if they buy their cosplay/commission it is like saying a furry isn't a furry if they don't make their fursuit.
I agree, Baby Gangsta.
I LOVE the while age thing. You dont have to be of age to cosplay! I started cosplaying at 12 and i have a friend who started at 10! You can do anything!
I actually cosplayed at 10 my first time (Akiza from Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's), it was hella dope
I didn't make the outfit myself obviously, I did make the mask but honestly it was still really cool
Didn't go to a con instead did basically croatian halloween which we call maskare
10/10 it was hella dope and would do again
I loved this! It's so nice having these sorts of videos that people can come to so everyone knows and can be more informed on the subject. You killed it, as always.
Ahhh thank you so much Sydney, that means a lot! ;u; 💖💖💖
SAMe, I also love that people go to the comments and tell storys about their cosplays and other things
I like talking to them and making friends and helping people out
For point 1 - I've seen old people rocking the couple from Cowardly Dog, the grandma from the Tweety Bird show.
For point 5 - So nopes.
a person i know has cosplayed as the kfc mascot
that’s amazing
thats just amaizing
Beautiful
Just speak your mind on that, be respectful, BE CAREFUL and have fun!
yoUR SUCH A SWEETHEART.
😭💖💖💖
Great video!! You have such a positive presence on TH-cam and I always look forward to ur uploads. Ur videos inspired me to cosplay at a con for the first time and it was such an awesome, empowering experience. So ty!!
Ahhh oh my goodness I'm so glad, thank you! ;u;
Thank you so much for the information. I am all about dressing up as characters for dance performances. I love it so much I just started looking into Cosplay. I'm 58 and life is too short not to have fun. I have no problem playing in costumes. I Love that wig on you! :-)
So glad I could help! 😄 Welcome to cosplay, you're gonna have a great time!! 🥰🙌🏻
I cosplay because it's fun, this year is the first time I've gotten a proper cosplay (all my previous ones have been thrown together last minute or on a budget), in can't make clothes though in would love to learn how so I brought my cosplay for the next con (supanova 2018 Melbourne where I will be Alice steam dress from Alice Madness Returns), I never enter contests but even if I did I would state where I got it, if anyone asks me where I got my costume I would tell them and give an honest review of the quality, because why not give back to the business that is giving me an amazing cosplay (I paid for it of course but it doesn't change the time and effort put in or that if it's worth it others should know)
Now I don't know if I want to be an author or a cosplayer when I grow up. That'd be awesome!
Awww I'm glad you went!
Keep cosplaying and stay hydrated my dude

Those people are heccin irrelevant, people can get offended bc you're eating a certain food or whatever
THEY. DON'T. MATTER.
YOU. DO. WHATEVER.
I'm so happy about her saying about bought cosplays being okay
I'm under 16 and terrible at sewing and making so I buy cosplays and I start to feel judged and really feel bad because I bought it rather than Make it myself
I think I want to do cosplay. It seems fun!
I'm a younger viewer and I'm going to send this to my mom before I tell her I want to do it.
Once I saw a little girl in a Megumin cosplay and I almost die of cuteness
Thank you so much! I love how positive you are, but still 100% truthful. You're an amazing and inspiring cosplayer!
Even her being kinda mad, she's still sweet
Very true! Thank you! I especially agree with the age thing!
Which I am more comfortable with, since I prefer video games over anime. c:
Oh cool! I've actually recently done a toy Bonnie from fnaf
How have I never heard of Amino? Time to make all the friends! :D
(2) I have a choco-mint "outfit" in which I hand out chocolate and mint candies, that's more kawaii culture than cosplay though. :3
(3) A follow-up concern I have to buying is: whether to buy it online or to commission locally.
(3) you can do either, just check the reviews or talk to someone who's had there's done by commission.
Hope you have a nice day and keep cosplaying
Awesome video thank you!!! I have a question for you! I’ve never done a cosplay but I really want to do scarlet witch from avengers (movie ver.) and I was wondering if you have a favorite brand of lace front wigs that would be good? Thank you! Love your videos! 💖
Kaitlin Wallace they're a bit on the Pricey side, but Arda Wigs are amazing for cosplay. I haven't had the need to get a lace front from them yet, but a friend of mine owns a few and they're amazing.
Quetzal Cat oh thank you so much that helps me a lot!! 😄
Kaitlin Wallace No problem! I know that I would have appreciated advice when I was just starting out. It would have saved a lot of money wasted on bad quality wigs that I ended up needing to replace in a year.
Quetzal Cat haha yup I’ve already done that! Lol it’s so cool that you cosplay!! I think cosplay is really fun but I’ve never been able to try it!
Your videos are always so full of positivity and kindness!! Watching them always makes me happy :)
My first cosplay was the Frankenstein girl from Monster High when I was like 6 for Halloween, the wig and everything skskksks. I also cosplayed Miku when I was 8.
M O N S T E R
MONSTERS MONSTERS YES WE AREE
They will cosplay at the house or in public and they love it.
this video gave me so much support as a cosplayer
SAME, especially the comments
Well not sure if this is a anime but uh, Im working on cosplaying espeon :) from Pokémon! And Im only 10! Almost 11!
Too Bad Ain’t It great job! I’m 12 and started cosplaying last year, you should be proud of yourself
I'm 12 almost 13 :p
Natasha Weirdo that is so creepy, I’m sorry that happened to you, great job for not letting it effect you tho
Another’s misconception: Not everyone at conventions cosplay, only about maybe 60%-40%? So no ones gonna give you crap for not cosplaying. As the first person in my school to cosplay, I get that question a lot from friends and classmates who are interested at attending cons but don’t cosplay.
AnayaPanda: *talking about what type of cosplays* "sky's the limit, do what u want"
Me: *dresses up as the sky*
I get so happy every time I see you upload 😊
Aww shucks omg ;u; 💖
Ive been Cosplaying since I was 11 I am now 15 and 2day is the 5 year mark 😊😊
Wait, if you use cosplay amino, then you feel like your at a convention? Wait, then you’d feel jealous or sad that you’re not at the convention...RIP
( this is why I can’t wait for Anime Boston)
I really respect the people who cosplay from kill la kill
I LOVE YOUR COSPLAYS!!!!!
so- i am now a teenager, started cosplaying at 11, and i have my first full cosplay- i previously only had parts & pieces- i dont cosplay anime, but i do cosplay video games and a minecraft rp that i watch(the dream smp specifically, starting to get into Hermitcraft, in which i will be soon cosplaying grian)- im so excited because i am going to A ren faire this weekend, and i am so excited to show it off!
I'm not sure if you've ever watched the Vampire Diaries but if so, you'd make an excellent Caroline cosplay! :D
She would!
I once went to see The Maltese Falcon at the cinema and I wore a trenchcoat and a trilby, I saw Star Wars wearing my shortest button up dress that looked like I'd actually walked off the Star Trek set... had to be done and I'm almost *cough* sixty and I still dress up whenever I can.
thank you for clearing out the age thing, I have wanted to do it but thought I was too young, now I have some confidence in learning more :)
Have you ever considered cosplaying D.Va? Also just a PSA, you’re amazing I love you, you inspire my cosplay journey so much, thank you.💖
On the age thing..
You can OF COURSE cosplay as a under age person.. but be aware, some adults wants to spend evenings at cons.. being.. adults.. and having a minor present will pretty much ruin the mood.. so please be aware if you are a bit in the way.. :)
