    This is so sad on too many levels. It’s hard to fathom how Shinichiro’s antisocial tendencies went unnoticed for so long. It’s a bit easier to see how a doting parent might brush *some* of it aside, attributing it to grief from the death of his grandma.
    That said, knowing how antisocial personality disorder develops, he displayed many hallmark traits in your telling of the story (pre-killing). Poor grades in school. Exhibiting behavior and words that were disturbing to his peers. Sadism in the torture and killing of animals. Early / bizarre sexual behaviors. An escalation to violence (nonfatal) toward those three young girls. The continued escalation as he went on to kill two people.
    At his age (14?) this would be classified as conduct disorder. Very few kids with conduct disorder grow up to have antisocial personality disorder. Very few people with antisocial personality disorder become murderers. But nearly every adult with ASPD showed signs of behavioral disorders in childhood/adolescence (conduct disorder / oppositional defiant disorder). Children with CD who lack empathy, or show callous-unemotional traits, generally respond poorly to early intervention and have the worst outcomes as far as progression/escalation. This often means they wind up dead, unhoused, or in prison by early adulthood.
    I don’t know about the material conditions of Shinichiro’s upbringing, but in kids who develop these disorders there are often traumatic events, neglect or abuse, lower socioeconomic status, single parent household, parent with substance abuse disorder, and so on.
    When it comes to the rehabilitation and treatment of people with ASPD, the transactional nature of what Shinichiro expressed regarding his behavior not being worth the consequences is among the desired outcomes (but remember, in the vast majority of people in treatment we’re not talking about murderers). *edit to mention that I don’t have the slightest idea of what tf that weird “corrective” pornogratherapy was.
    I’ve gone on long enough. 😊 Just a disclaimer, this is what I study but I am not an expert or authority on the subject of personality/social psych. I just get overzealous in comment sections when it’s a subject I’m passionate about!

      not me as a 29 year old googling 'conduct disorder' and looking at the john hopkins web site like 👀 and realising I fit into many of the (non-violent) categories they listed 💀

      @@murphyrecords16 it’s possible to have subclinical traits of a disorder that don’t reach a level that destabilizes your life. Age is the only distinction between Conduct Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder (18+), though, so it would be considered the latter for a 29 year old. Not to say that you have it! Just hypothetically. 🙂

      @michaelneedssleep okay the fact that symptoms w different mental/personality disorders overlaps so much is what always effes me up and confuses me lol. I do have a diagnosis for bpd but no idea where that came from.

      IM PINNING THIS!!! Thank you this was so interesting and informative. I totally agree that the signs were certainly there tho is is odd that there’s not an early childhood trauma to point to (unless his grandmothers death stands to qualify due to his extreme attachment to her? I think that would be unusual but so is this whole case). As for the rehab thing, yes him just being like “this isn’t worth it” is usually the conclusion most ppl with ASPD who have violent thoughts come to on there own let alone in rehab. The porn method is weird, I’m not sure if that’s specific to Japan here, it also doesn’t seem all that primed for success as you can’t know if the patient is retreating into their imagination or not, it’s also supposed to be consensual but it seems questionable in that regard just because of the stakes.

      @@DaisyFoko The video really piqued my curiosity, but it seems impossible to find anything about his background!
      To be honest, that method they tried on him sounds a lot like “conversion therapy”, which- gross, and also, we know it doesn’t have the intended result. The recipient ends up more traumatized and they just perform ‘straightness’ for self-preservation, or in this case, Shinichiro pretends to stop lusting after dead grandma 😭🤢

    I was very shocked to see the brutality of this case. I didn't fully grasp it until the visceral shiver that fell down my spine and churned my stomach at 19:30.
    I was gonna write a more normal comment but it doesn't do this justice sooo...here is my reactions
    - the mutilation of animals made me cradle my cat like a baby
    - 19:30 the way I got so viscerally nauseous right now
    - 21:00 that poor girl she was just being kind
    - 23:33 that boy is so lucky
    - 24:04 that girl deserved so much better
    - 25:10 I hope that girl is ok now
    - 25:33 I'm gonna sob for that family
    - 29:58 Jesus fucking Christ
    - 38:33 I'm gonna vomit
    - 43:20 you are so incredibly strong for being able to talk about this with such grace and empathy. I almost started sobbing.
    - omg this is such a hard episode on Spooky Saturday but honestly so eye opening

      Yes, this was an extremely difficult story to share and I actually contemplated whether or not I should but purely because it is actually one of the worst things I’ve ever heard of. I felt compelled in a weird way to share it just because I had no idea that this had happened and it was so genuinely shocking and disturbing to me, part of me just felt that it’s important that people are aware of the spectrum of human behavior and just how far it can go

      I think it points out signs and patterns that we can observe in our own kids and try to prevent it from happening again. It's truly important to document and share these stories and you do it so eloquently it becomes less daunting. I found true crime TH-camrs or tiktokers to be insensitive and you have been able to bring me back to genre that fascinated me so much.

    Japan likes to brand itself as a safe country, but then there's stuff like all-women trains and signs at amusement parks saying "Do not grope someone here. Report a predator if you see one" because of the sheer amount of assault that happens

    I personally think he simply was the way he is. There was no inciting incident, there was no trauma, no copying someone older. Just a sick kid "allowed" to continue what he enjoyed. It is gross, and uncommon, but it happens. Once again I suggest the UK James Bulger case

    • @DaisyFoko
      @DaisyFoko  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ok yeah I’m gonna have to look into James. Also I have to agree, from what we know and we know kind of too much (tho a lot of it is from an unreliable narrator) it doesn’t seem like anything happened. It seems like he’s just like this which is what makes it so senseless

    • @thecheeseprofessor
      @thecheeseprofessor 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DaisyFoko It occurred to me, the story does remind me of the fiction book, The Wasp Factory. I don't remember much about it (it's been a decade since i read it) but it's about a boy of similar inclinations as this one. Just a kid that wants to hurt things coz he likes it. I'm sure there's are plenty of summaries and breakdowns on YT for easy digestion
