I think the real reason Lindy makes the top of this list is that we started off disliking her, but over the course of the episode, we began to empathise with her, making the double whammy at the end all the nastier. If she'd been horrible all the way through, rather than just vapid and useless, we wouldn't have been so invested in the story - especially given that the two main characters were hardly in it.
I'm pretty sure the implication is that Ricky September was also racist. Just not at blatantly. I personally think everyone is giving this man too much credit.
Ricky September chooses to live in a segregated, Whites-only city, so maybe don’t go caping for him just because he died before he had a chance to be racist to 15’s face
Lindy made me so mad when the end of the episode happened. I was trying SO HARD to give her the benefit of the doubt, but that final scene with her interaction with the Doctor was infuriating. She really deserves that top spot
Don't worry. She and her "friends" are as good as dead. No survival skills whatsoever having lived their whole lives being catered to by machines. Plus, who knows what dangers await them in the wilderness of that world. Weather alone can prove fatal, after all.
The boat exploding at the end of Dot and Bubble would have been so disappointing. Those horrible people didn't just die, they died one by one, alone, lost and confused, in fear, having learned that all their presumptions of supremacy were meaningless in the face of the monsters outside their dome. They died in an off-screen horror movie, and I'm not quite as kind and forgiving as the Doctor, because I am glad they did.

Given what we saw of Sylvia's attitude to Donna when we first meet her, it's no wonder Donna fell for Lance. We didn't get to see much of her dad's attitude towards her, given his limited screen time in the chaotic The Runaway Bride, and of course Howard Attfield's passing prevented further exploration of his character. Wilf's connection with Donna was likely the only thing that kept her sane. I'm glad they let us see Sylvia as the protective mother for all the years Donna was at risk.

Justice for Ricky September. One thing Ellie and everyone else might consider is all the folks on the ship have zero survival skills. So barring them getting killed by a different monster or the elements they will likely die a slow painful death

That would have been a nice touch, the Doctor asking them "which one of you, 'survivors', know what plants can you eat and which ones can kill you?". But that is something "more Capaldi's"
You don't seriously expect them to be able to survive in the wilderness on their own? They'll starve within a week, Lindy probably survives a little longer by turning canibalistic.
I'm fine with seeing that they got killed/eaten, though I don't think it's necessary - they've only just figured out how to *walk*, the episode makes it abundantly clear that they don't have the survival skills to live in the wilderness. But the Doctor just shrugging it off would be a massive disservice to his actions in Dot and Bubble. By the end of the episode, he knows exactly what the FineTimers are, and what they stand for, and he *still* cares about them and wants to save them. Because he's the Doctor. "I don't care what you think, you can say whatever you like...I will do anything if you just allow me to save your lives." This story is a tragedy, at least from the Doctor's perspective. He wasn't able to save them, not because he wasn't smart enough, or quick enough, or powerful enough...but solely because of their flaws, their prejudices, their stupidity and arrogance. The fact that they're going to die purely thanks to their racism isn't, to him, a satisfying example of people getting their just desserts, but a painfully stupid waste of the lives of people he did everything he could to save.

Angie and Artie did nothing wrong. The Doctor promised them the biggest amusement park in the galaxy and took them to a military outpost on an abandoned moon. They are 100% correct to complain.
I think that "Midnight", undoubtly one of the best episodes ever made, features some of the worst character mentality ever created [In a good way: They are hateable for us viewers], expecially Professor Hobbes and the Mom and the Dad of Jethro.... Even if it was the Creature playing with their mind in some way....

I have a theory that Lindy might be Reprobate, the god of spite mentioned by Harriet Arbinger. Because Lindy's mother was created by Sutekh, that makes her technically Sutekh's granddaughter, and she clearly inherited Sutekh's malice. I mentioned this on Reddit and another user said that meant Lindy is a member of the Pantheon of Discord, and I have to say spite really fits her.
One I would add to this list is commander Millington from the curse of fenric, a man who would happily kill millions of civilians and unleash a terrible god who has plans to kill all life on earth Millington also has no mercy for anyone and even orders his soldiers to kill his own men (though saying this he is a lot of fun to watch as he has got a weird reality disconnected psychotic personality)
He grew up in a racist society, and people tend to follow the views of their society until they're given reason to question them. He would probably have picked up some unquestioned racist views from that. But the real measure of a person growing up in that situation is how they respond when those views get challenged, by, say, the appearance of a black man who's clearly more competent than anyone in your segregated society. And given his response in the episode, I'm confident that if he'd survived he would have shed other lingering racist attitudes as soon as he became aware of them.

I actually loved Lindy for all the reasons mentioned. She was a terrible person, but such a good character. She was very well written, and just hit so well.
Just so everyone's aware, Lindy and the other Dot survivors didn’t survive. This is because they left a nice comfortable world to go live in an unknown forest filled with unknown threats. Not just animals, but plants too. Think about that.
With some of these characters, we get to the satisfaction of seeing their comeuppance (I found Henry Van Statten's fate -- to cite someone who wasn't on this list -- especially satisfying). With others, we get to rage about their undeserved survival and even success. With Lindy and the other Finetimers, we *know* that she won't survive (even if there are no carniverous slugs or murderous dots waiting for the Finetimers, it's a virtual guarantee that these spoiled brats, with no survival, will spend a short time getting at each other throats before they all die of starvation, poisoning or disease); but we don't actually get to see that. It's left to our imagination
Honestly, that was mainly them "feeding" off of the others' reactions and subsequently making their own reactions worse. Although I agree that the teenager (love an early Merlin) was being an utter idiot with the stereotypical "I'm invincible, so Imma have a laugh at others' expense" attitude. Truly made me want to punch something.
Comparing Robertson to Scrooge McDuck is a bit unfair, as Scrooge can still be loveable at times and even, sometimes begrudingly, admit his mistakes. Robertson is/does neither of these things.
I think Mrs Cane from Midnight is a pretty unlikable character, at least towards the end of the story. She becomes more and more hostile towards the Doctor to the point where she's shouting at everyone to throw him out but at the end of the story, she hasn't learned a thing.
I really doubt Ricky September was a racist. He stood out as a free thinker, a decent person who could unlearn harmful behavior, so at the very least he was redeemable.

Lindy Pepper-Bean number 1 was not a surprise at all she was a nasty snoddy cow, and once I worked that racist part, I was like thinking to the Doctor 'Let them die they not worth saving.' But Dot and Bubble I'd say that is the closest the show has ever gone to being Black Mirror.
They should do that as a story arc for the 15th Doctor in the future. A guy who occasionally does the minimum to be the hero, but eventually turns around to some awful individuals to say "save yourself".
Dot and Bubble on the top again. Oh it is such a great episode, because it sparks so much feelings. Not good ones, but intense ones. I don't know why, but the doctor light episodes through the years are some of my favorite episodes overall

Seemed a normalish guy until he bribed hungry homeless people into his truck, turned them into Cybermen, and when they started screaming, he just turned the volume up and popped to The Lion Sleeps Tonight while the screaming continued. Surely he deserves at least an honorable mention?
I wouldn't call Lindy hateable, but more tragic, not because of her fate, but because of her inability to break out of her actual bubble of her preconceived notions.
I would agree, until the point where she throws Ricky September under the bus. That guy saved her life multiple times, and she gets him killed immediately when it benefits her.
What I ultimately hope for the future is that we see Lindy and the other Finetime kids in a spot of trouble in the future, and the Doctor turns up, sees them,, and watches as they beg for his help. Ultimately waiting until they panic before he gives in to his kind nature and helps them. Maybe we can have some of the others weeded out or something. Wouldn't that be fun?
Watching Colony in Space this week and Norton pretending to be the only survivor of a previous group, then killing the only person who can keep the colony's systems running and blaming the mute primitives is a proper snide piece of goods. Really subtly hidden sadism well played by Roy Skelton.
dot and bubble inferuitate me with lindy my mum litterally shouted that B when she killed ricky september, everyone in my familly hated her and in my head i said to the doctor. "doctor you have a sonic screwdriver and you've killed spiders before just give it a little flame"
Dot & Bubble would have been more impactful if the characters were likeable until the "twist". I didn't notice anything much about them beyond how unbelievably irritating they all were at the start as I was too busy cringing at the dialogue. As is she just comes across as a thoughtless product of her society with the betrayal of Ricky being the only thing questionably all on her. The abusive husband from Idiots Lantern should be here. And Mrs Gillyflower from The Crimson Horror. Honestly you could probably get at least 2 more videos on this with ease.
You know how during Journey's End, Davros asks the Doctor "Think of all those who died in your name", I would love for them to do that in the future with the 15th Doctor. Except it's people who didn't deserve to be saved, like Fenton, Sutcliffe, Lindy etc. Eventually, the Doctor begins turning his back on people throughout his stories, who don't deserve to be rescued.
Lord Sutcliffe getting socked by the Doctor will forever live rent free in my mind. He is a gentleman yes, but the last thing he will be with you is gentle if you are a dispicable person.😂😂😂

I live here in the United States and have been a fan for 40 years. I started watching when my local PBS station was showing Tom Baker's farewell season. Not only that I am fully aware that Jack Robertson was inspired by Don the Con. That said, I don't think Chris Noth's portray of Robertson was inspired by Don the Con. It was inspired by The Boss.

Wondered if Lance was going to be on this list. Even in the beginning when I didn't like Donna (she's the companion that grew on me the most, I think), I thought Lance was an absolute pile of crap. It's bad enough to do the plot with Donna in the first place, but he just had to twist the knife for sadism's sake. Even the Spider Queen thought he went too far, in the end, it seems.
I actually hated Lindy before the twist ending as I found her annoying and every time she spoke, she sounded like a spoiled brat. I really hope we never see her again
The two characters I most disliked were the companions Tegan and Peri. Both spent most of their time whining, screaming grizzling or demanding. My favourite was Leela. She was a no nonsense badass!
Adam Mitchell (the guy with a hole in his head) is one I hate. The Doctor was so unimpressed with him he kicked him off the Tardis after just one adventure. The guy was just irresponsible and will pay the price for the rest of his life. I'm surprised he didn't make it to this list.
To be fair, there are two good reasons you put Lindy Pepper-Bean as the most hated. The first is proximity in time, she seems like the worst of the worst because we saw her very recently. The second is because it is true, she has zero redeeming qualities.
Am I the only one who didn't mind Angie and Arti? Maybe it's because I expect children to be this way. Some honorable mentions should go to: Queen Xanxia, Chairman Morgus, Salamander, Josiah Smith, Cessair of Diplos, and Mrs Gillyflower.

Justice for Ricky September!
Comparing Robertson to Scrooge McDuck is a bit unfair, as Scrooge can still be loveable at times and even, sometimes begrudingly, admit his mistakes. Robertson is/does neither of these things.
Dishonourable mention goes to everyone in midnight except Dee Dee and Jeffro
Lindy Pepper-Bean I hated most, so good choice, I wanted to see that smile wiped off her face at the end so much.
I think Mrs Cane from Midnight is a pretty unlikable character, at least towards the end of the story. She becomes more and more hostile towards the Doctor to the point where she's shouting at everyone to throw him out but at the end of the story, she hasn't learned a thing.
Lindy was a masterpiece. The racism wasn't even high on my list of the reasons I hated her.
Jamie Foreman as Eddie Connolly in the Idiot's Lantern. How he treated his family was truly abysmal and horrifying.
I really doubt Ricky September was a racist. He stood out as a free thinker, a decent person who could unlearn harmful behavior, so at the very least he was redeemable.
yeah he was very different from the rest of them and he had no negative reaction to 15 when he saw him.
True, but he was only a free thinker because he read books from the racist society, there wasn’t exactly gonna be a lot of stuff to help challenge any racist beliefs
If you haven’t, would love to see you do a top 10 most evil Doctor Who characters, Tecteun would definitely make that list, I’d even say Top 5.
Dot and bubble did racism so well, I love the look as they realise but they don’t actually address it. So so good. Millie’s reaction is perfect
Lindy Pepper-Bean number 1 was not a surprise at all she was a nasty snoddy cow, and once I worked that racist part, I was like thinking to the Doctor 'Let them die they not worth saving.' But Dot and Bubble I'd say that is the closest the show has ever gone to being Black Mirror.
They should do that as a story arc for the 15th Doctor in the future. A guy who occasionally does the minimum to be the hero, but eventually turns around to some awful individuals to say "save yourself".
I can't hear the name Fenton without hearing a man shouting it repeatedly while chasing a misbehaving dog.

Im surprised that there weren't any honorable mentions like the passengers in the episode midnight. I hated those people for how easily they were able to decide to throw the doctor out to die

What was the name of John Lumic's assistant in The Age of Steel, series 2? Mr Crane? Seemed a normalish guy until he bribed hungry homeless people into his truck, turned them into Cybermen, and when they started screaming, he just turned the volume up and popped to The Lion Sleeps Tonight while the screaming continued. Surely he deserves at least an honorable mention?

I wouldn't call Lindy hateable, but more tragic, not because of her fate, but because of her inability to break out of her actual bubble of her preconceived notions.
I would agree, until the point where she throws Ricky September under the bus. That guy saved her life multiple times, and she gets him killed immediately when it benefits her.
What I ultimately hope for the future is that we see Lindy and the other Finetime kids in a spot of trouble in the future, and the Doctor turns up, sees them,, and watches as they beg for his help. Ultimately waiting until they panic before he gives in to his kind nature and helps them.
Maybe we can have some of the others weeded out or something. Wouldn't that be fun?

Watching Colony in Space this week and Norton pretending to be the only survivor of a previous group, then killing the only person who can keep the colony's systems running and blaming the mute primitives is a proper snide piece of goods. Really subtly hidden sadism well played by Roy Skelton.
In defense of Lance, a lot of what he says about Donna is arguably true and a big part of her character development.
dot and bubble inferuitate me with lindy my mum litterally shouted that B when she killed ricky september, everyone in my familly hated her and in my head i said to the doctor. "doctor you have a sonic screwdriver and you've killed spiders before just give it a little flame"
Dot & Bubble would have been more impactful if the characters were likeable until the "twist". I didn't notice anything much about them beyond how unbelievably irritating they all were at the start as I was too busy cringing at the dialogue. As is she just comes across as a thoughtless product of her society with the betrayal of Ricky being the only thing questionably all on her.

You know how during Journey's End, Davros asks the Doctor "Think of all those who died in your name", I would love for them to do that in the future with the 15th Doctor. Except it's people who didn't deserve to be saved, like Fenton, Sutcliffe, Lindy etc. Eventually, the Doctor begins turning his back on people throughout his stories, who don't deserve to be rescued.
Lord Sutcliffe getting socked by the Doctor will forever live rent free in my mind. He is a gentleman yes, but the last thing he will be with you is gentle if you are a dispicable person.😂😂😂

I don't think we've seen that last of Lindy. Since she didn't die (Spoilers!) she and the survivors of that social media planet will probably be back next season to annoy us...!

I live here in the United States and have been a fan for 40 years. I started watching when my local PBS station was showing Tom Baker's farewell season. Not only that I am fully aware that Jack Robertson was inspired by Don the Con. That said, I don't think Chris Noth's portray of Robertson was inspired by Don the Con. It was inspired by The Boss.

Dot and Bubble is brilliant, but I genuinely cannot rewatch it because of how downright annoying Lindy is.
Wondered if Lance was going to be on this list. Even in the beginning when I didn't like Donna (she's the companion that grew on me the most, I think), I thought Lance was an absolute pile of crap. It's bad enough to do the plot with Donna in the first place, but he just had to twist the knife for sadism's sake. Even the Spider Queen thought he went too far, in the end, it seems.

I actually hated Lindy before the twist ending as I found her annoying and every time she spoke, she sounded like a spoiled brat. I really hope we never see her again

The two characters I most disliked were the companions Tegan and Peri. Both spent most of their time whining, screaming grizzling or demanding. My favourite was Leela. She was a no nonsense badass!

True, but he did redeem himself somewhat at the end with his sacrifice. The characters in this video didn’t learn and didn’t change.
Adam Mitchell (the guy with a hole in his head) is one I hate. The Doctor was so unimpressed with him he kicked him off the Tardis after just one adventure. The guy was just irresponsible and will pay the price for the rest of his life. I'm surprised he didn't make it to this list.

To be fair, there are two good reasons you put Lindy Pepper-Bean as the most hated. The first is proximity in time, she seems like the worst of the worst because we saw her very recently. The second is because it is true, she has zero redeeming qualities.
Being named Romulus and Remus is blasphemous enough for them to deserve death.
They had no right to be named after proper legends.
Am I the only one who didn't mind Angie and Arti? Maybe it's because I expect children to be this way.

Going to be harsh here but... Finetime ends up being on Solosus III, which ends up being taken over by Cardassians as an end result of the Sisko contaminating the atmosphere with trilithium resin.... ain't Karma a stinker!

I don't think Angie deserves to be put in the same "hateable" category as the others on this list. She's just being a bit irritating in an adolescent sort of way. And Artie doesn't seem hateable at all to me. You just seem to be blaming both of them fr whatever Angie did or said.
