I was really hoping the first female Doctor would be ginger. She regenerates, her companions are still stunned. She gets a look at herself in the mirror and starts freaking out, companion(s) try to reassure her, and it turns out she's ecstatic to be ginger and hasn't even *noticed* she's a woman yet!

In my head-canon his earliest memories are growing up on earth (England during the industrial revolution) as a ginger girl - family went "back to Gallifrey" to get the older siblings into the Academy - during the time of their assessment something terrible happend to the place all the younger kids were staying, hurting most of them badly, even killing some... The adults were crying for a doctor to help the injured kids and that girl, on the brink of death just thought: "oh, a doctor to help us all, I could do that..." Last thoughts befor an unauthorised regeneration into a fair haired boy (with the help of a little boy, who had liked her soo much, because she used to address him as "master"). They both regenerated in that event and were put in that orphanage, because their families would not recognize them. Grew up together and stayed best friends, until "the Master" demanded "this lost life" back, he had sacrificed as a kid😅

To be fair, it's not unreasonable for a younger fan to have started watching with the revival, and to not have the time to go watch the whole classic series. By the time Capaldi took over, there were already eight seasons of the revival to watch (there were enough "specials" to equal a season), that's already a pretty big investment of time! Demanding everyone watch another 26 seasons in addition before they can be considered a "true fan" is just ridiculous.

Personally, I prefer it when the Doctor is older. I mean, for most of the run he has been hundreds of years old, and he's now kind-of billions of years old following "Heaven Sent". Why is he getting involved romantically with teenage/early 20s women (or men)?
If the Doctor actor is young it's OK, but if he's old it's not?

Peter being older did cost the show some of its American fans. Speaking as an American, we can be quite ageist and dismissive of things unlike what we were expecting. All the modern actors had been young so many expected another and tuned out when it wasn't someone they could either be like, or fawn over. If America stopped watching at all, it was usually around the time of Capaldi, and it was down to him not being young. And that sucks, people missed out!

My sister really hated Peter Capaldi. I think maybe she didn’t like his writing (which is why some people didn’t like him), but I’m considering stating that she disliked how he wasn’t a younger man she couldn’t fangirl over (like David Tennant and Matt Smith) or a positive role model for woman (see Jodie Whittaker) as payback for her and my mother’s accusations that I have an irrational distaste for Whittaker. As you’ve said, Hartnell and also Jon Pertwee (who was able to hold his own as the Doctor) were also older men (Capaldi’s outfit even appeared to take inspiration from Pertwee). Billie Piper even said she thought he’d be a great Doctor and I was left thinking “Thank you Billie Piper” who supported Whittaker too. Scottish MP Nicola Sturgeon also supported the 13th Doctor being a woman. I also had no issues with any of these.

When David said “Am I ginger?” Loads bloody loved it and when Matt said “Still not ginger” a woman wrote “I have just watched the 11th hour with my son and we are both ginger and are extremely offended at Matt Smith mocking us gingers. Bring back David Tennant”. And before anyone says “No one ever said that” yes they did.

"What does it say about Fletcher's view about gender politics that he believes that boys don't have it in them to look up to women as heroes"
In all fairness, at the time one of the most commonly repeated arguments in favour of a female doctor was the shortage of role models in media for young girls.
It's quite interesting hearing the attitude to the argument when it's flipped on it's head.
In addition there was (and still is) a notable lack of male role models that favour peaceful and diplomatic solutions over ones involving big guns and broken teeth.
So while it may have been an absurd statement that Jodie's run would result in some kind of crimewave (not counting Chibnal's writing, of course..), there is some validity to some limited aspects of the arguments presented.
It's just unfortunate that the arguments were presented in such a ludicrous and sensationalist manner by a total wazzock.

I read somewhere that in the future the gene that causes ginger hair will be more prevalant than the gene that causes blond hair owing to the blond gene being recessive.
Which means that gingers are playing the long game and will eventually "have more fun." 😁

-The daleks in color is ultimately unnecessary, it's new score is terrible and the edits are also terrible, they removed a critical plot point to " keep continuity" (susan being chosen to get the anti radiation drugs was due to her being the only other person that could unlock the TARDIS without melting the lock, not because she was the only one that could walk)
    - Sonic shades controversy was dumb.... ultimately the sonic shades were actually better than the sonic screwdriver, but the doctor and their stories are better written without it.

Let's see some ginger facts. The gene that brings about red hair only occurs in a very small percentage of the population. This being said, and the Doctor being as old as they are, it's actually not surprising that he's never been ginger. The fact that he wants to be is awesome, though.
Get some more Scottish actors. Maybe, then, he can be one.

I love 12 now, he's in my top 6 Doctors. I love the Sonic Sunglasses, they were so fun and different! When Jenny and Vastra kissed, I was initially disappointed because I was like "Why do they have to hide a kiss behind an excuse. Xena did that in the 90s!" and that DW episode came out in 2014. Then 2016 happened I was rudely awakened to how much homphobia is still in the world.

I have always liked Peter Capaldi, for the simple reason that he's a superb actor, in anything he appears in. When I heard that he had got the Doctor Who gig, I was tremendously happy for him, knowing what a huge fan of the show he had always been.
Add to this, he's a lovely, genuine bloke - a friend of mine met him whilst walking through London once, and Mr Capaldi was more than happy to have his photo taken with my mate, and to give him an autograph.

Yes, the upset fangirls that the twelfth Doctor wasn't still young and hot so they could still pine over him takes the cake. Wonder if they were some of the ones who later wanted to ship 12 and Clara together, one of the best platonic relationships the Doctor and a Companion have ever had. I would say they should go watch from Face the Raven thru to Hell Bent to see how far the Doctor would be willing to go to save someone they truly love. Did they still have that opinion by that point? Think not.
