    I've got to agree with these comments. Setting up screens are almost non-existent. On defense hands up not waste high. You can't get rebounds if you don't look up. This announcer had some real good points. The coach needs to point these things out when the players review their game films.

    I've been following CC for the past 4 years now. The one thing that coaches all say about her is that CC makes everyone around her better. Dawn, Mulkey, Geno, Bluder, etc.... they've all said it. Last year everyone was scared when Monica left and they still made it to the champions this year.

    Wheeler and Wallace and Saxton need to be waived/traded. Celete Taylor, Lexie Hull and Grace Berger need to play. They need to acquire another 6'3" - 6'5" player who can run and move and catch a pass. Coach still not off the hook. She sat Clark on a hot streak and the NY lead ballooned again. Played Samuelson out of position for 32 minutes and she got only 5 points, Katie should cap at 20 minutes max an is a perimeter shooter. Wheeler and Wallace gave nothing, and still played a good amount of minutes. Deactivating Taylor in her home city. Why even keep her on the roster? All said Clark will have between 10 an 20 (that's right) 30 and 10 games this season. I think Clark will lead the league in scoring and assists. Fever win 15-25 games imo, they have depth issues in the front court that need addressing and this coach is gonna take her time figuring out the obvious personel changes she needs to make. This was a winnable game, 3 players that played big minutes produced virtually nothing and everyone was bad on defense.

    • @micdewitt
      @micdewitt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Absolutely spot on. I made this this morning right before the game, was pleasantly surprised to see Wheeler out of the starting lineup afterwards, but then she got way more minutes than I would have cared for so the pleasnt went away. I believe 10-20 30 and 8 games, at this rate they'll drop the other 2 assists and make them turnovers. a .500 Season would be a feat imo, I have them closer to the 15 range then the 25. Coach improving and I like the quick changes but I don't know how many great players won with the coach they came in with. That job today is not the same job that it was last season so usually a change in personnel comes with that, eventually.

      Mitchell is very good. She was one of the top three female scorers of all time in NCAA. So I think we need to give her a couple games to see if she gels with CC. She does need to work on her ball handling, but again I am hoping the injury has just made her a little rusty.
      Wallace on the other hand can go along with Wheeler & coach Sides. Since they seem to be a package deal that is screwing over the great young talent on this team.

    Catlin to point guard putting up balls or dishing, make layups, make shots when under the basket, catch passes, increase the foot speed, be far more active/intentional/crisp, set rock solid screens further out, when you roll to the basket go with purpose (destroy everything that gets in your way), challenge bad calls, and fight like crazy for each other 24/7. Excellent analysis and advice. Boston needs to toughen up - she is being pushed around like she’s a little girl. I don’t understand why the coach wants Caitlin in the corner. It makes no sense. They definitely need better conditioning in order to take advantage of how Caitlin c@n feed them in transition. Hands! They have to be able to catch Caitlin’s passes and score. She is setting them up and they either don’t catch the pass or don’t finish their shot. They need lots of work.

    This team has no idea what the hell they are suppose to be doing. 1. they move like they have corn cobs up their butts. 2. they have the best shooter in the world, sitting in the coner, WHY? 3. Why isn't SHE bringing the ball up?, she knows how to read the floor, can direct the floor and find the open player, she has the speed to open up the floor, The main problem is that the rest of the team don't know where they should be at. Boston, or whatever her name is, doesn't move her butt back to defense the board, when she does get back, she is in the wrong position. How did she get rookie of year? THIS team's GM needs to set them down and read the riot act to them, Get your asses in line, or leave, the coach included!

    Mental toughness, mental discipline, extreme focus required prior to intuitive play. This all takes time. Hands- dropped balls and rebounds. Pros should never be missing open lay-ups… focus. Fever has yet to decide whether they will work with CC. -- all levels!!! Coaches, players, and coaching staff need to decide and then follow their commitment-- look at the filled seats in the stands. The fans are not here to watch an uncommitted group of individuals. They are here to watch the evolution of a team. CC can not be ignored by her own teammates when she is on the court.

    I think the Clark effect is messing with her teammates. They feel pressured to score or make big plays because she can n they are trying to imitate her style. They need to relax n play their style n let Caitlin be Clark as they are being themselves. Wheeler is WAY out of control when she has the ball n Boston isn't a "rim runner" (like a Czinano or Stuelke) so they need to either adapt or be traded. ONLY ONE CHEF IS NEEDED TO MAKE A GOOD STEW, her teammates are trying to be chefse instead of assistant cooks n waitresses.

    • @micdewitt
      @micdewitt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah Nylassa fits the rim runner role more and she's more willing to space out and at least attempt a jumpshot every now and then without being forced by the shot clock. If you go look at Aliyah's highlight reel from her rookie year it's 80% pound, pound, pound, pivot, bump, layup. I don't tink that works well with CC's style. For her style to be effective, her runs have to be explosive more Warriors style then a plodding, deliberate, slow pace style. That's for a team with great defense

    • @amyk6319
      @amyk6319 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nah. The coach is horrible as well as her 2 favorite players Wheeler & Wallace. Sides worked with them in Atlanta & brought them in when she became head coach last year. Wheeler & Wallace are crappy players who are purposely not throwing CC the ball. I've seen both of them look directly at an open CC and still throw the ball to someone else. And because Caitlin is the rookie, she's in a tough spot & doesn't want to step on the toes of the vets Sides favors.

      They kept trying to tell me about what a coach can do and I just don't think they understand what game we're really talking about on that one. Some of us were having two entirely different conversations, but we see already from that next press conference to this last game which way it's trending. We know what's up

  • @richs6926
    @richs6926 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thank you for providing your analyses and constructive suggestions in such detail. I hope Christie Sides watches your video. I liked the comments from fans also. We need more videos like yours. I think Caitlin needs to play point guard. She said she shoots better off the dribble. She can also see the floor better when she brings the ball up and will have more room to thread her passes. Nalyssa and Temi can get down the floor in offensive transition and they play aggressively. There's a video showing how Clark passed to Hannah Stuelke in transition that would work for Nalyssa and Temi (Iowa vs. Penn State-Hannah scored 47 pts). I agree she should not be put in the corner. There's no upside to that.
    The Fever needs a taller aggressive center. They have trouble against teams that have one. I also agree that Aliya needs to pick and pop. Teams collapse on her now and it's over. She's slow and I don't know what can be done to fix that. By the way, I noticed that when Cameron Brink blocked some shots, her feet didn't get off the floor. She looks taller than 6'4" to me or she has really long arms. Guess we'll see tonight whether Aliyah can block her shots or vice-versa.
    I agree that "hands" need to catch the ball and players who play good defense need to be on the floor. Actually, Caitlin can play defense when she pays attention, but that's not often enough. She's also a streaky 3-pt. shooter. I think Grace Berger plays under control, shoots well, and plays good defense. It's clear the team needs more practice time once this 7-game stretch is over. Thanks again and please post more.

    • @micdewitt
      @micdewitt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, and I agree about the taller center, I said something similar in the video I just dropped. I was questioning Aliyah's wing span on my run this morning lol. Her 6'5'' doesn't 6'5" like everyone else's seems to. When they play the sky, if Kamilla Cardoso returns that game expected we may really see that size issue show itself, these Sparks/Aces/Sky games me is Aliyah's chance to show whether she'll be ok against size or not

    Mic! I HAD to write this comment because I think you'd get a kick out of a video I just saw (and forwarded to the Pacers e-mail because the Fever don't have a publicly known one). I watch a lot of videos commenting on the Fever's play, and they contain valid commentary, but they're just verbal and global (not specific to examples). Well this young man actually described why the Fever are having troubles and why Caitlin is having so many turnovers. Interestingly, it's not due to the lack of talent as much as the lack of plays being executed properly. He emphasized screens not being done correctly and players not positioning themselves properly. I was not the only one who wanted this sent to the Fever; many other commenters echoed my sentiments. He described the problems as he showed footage of the Fever in games this year. I, being relatively ignorant of basketball plays, found it educational out the wazoo, which is why I sent it to Indiana; but you know basketball, which is why I thought you might get a kick out of it. Josh Felton is the creator of the video, which is titled, "Why are the Indiana Fever Struggling?"

    • @micdewitt
      @micdewitt  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I watched, it was great. I've seen a few of his videos. Always good. The Boston screen thing, I have a video somehwere in here where I was saying and showing how her defenders phase through her, and the point about rolling too much and never popping out. That's why I always applaud when she pops out and attempts a jumpshot. Ultimately though, Fever are (at least two games ago) last in wide open shot %, including layups. Correcting that is the 1st fix, everything stays broken until then, and everything suddenly looks better once they do. That's where the question of talent comes in. If they never do start to fall, then it's the personnel and not just a team-wide cold streak. Boston being awful in the pick n roll, hands not ready, I might have had that in the same video or a diff one, but that too might fall into the talent department moreso than just bad positioning. Only because I'm of the mind that by this point she should have those instincts, and sometimes you just can't turn a post player into a good pick n roll player. I'm hoping she can. Players allowing defenders to defnd two players, I had a clip of Nalyssa Smith somewhere and pointed that one out too. There was almost nothing in that video I disagreed with

    1st time viewer here. Thank you Brother for your Insights. Alot of Great Solid points. I honestly think this is one of the best accurate Basketball Commentaries Ive heard on youtube, and a I think a Good Breakdown of the Indiana Fever right now. Ive been a Hawkeye a very long time, and Now a New WNBA and Fever Fan. I Would honestly like to see Celeste Taylor and a few others Off The Bench getting Playing time for a few reasons. As far as Celeste Taylor, it’s common knowledge that she’s a great defensive player, but she’s also good on offense. But I want to see Celeste and a few others Because, I just think it would be a good thing to mix it up a little bit, see How it works, not to mention they need playing time to get the feel of The professional WNBA Pace. My worry is, that if there are injuries to Key Players in the middle to later part of the season, and or the scenario that If the Fever even if Playing Well still have a poor Record, Because Then its abit Late to make changes with any expectation of doing much at that point. I mean seriously, if that happened, I don’t think it’s realistic that bench players can just come into The game in the WNBA and have a big impact, that’s just not likely. Thank you for allowing my input here, And if you have any opinion about my mention of Celeste and other players off the bench, feel free to comment. Thank you.

      100% with Celeste, I think it's silly to ask for toughness and defense and then not at least try the one guard on the team with a reputation and the physical stature to give you just that. Especially in the games that weren't particularly close. I think they aren't bult to withstand losing any key players no matter what, so if it happened, at that point just focus on development for the younger players and scouting draftees/free agents/trades for next season because the losses are inevitable

    The biggest issue is the coach's favoritism for Erica Wheeler & Kristy Wallace. Its not only Wheeler who ignores CC when she's on the court. I saw Wallace look at a wide open CC 2x & then throw it to someone else. Sides has worked with Wheeler & Wallace since her days as asst coach in Atlanta (another losing team). She even convinced Fever to pay Wheeler the highest salary at the time to bring her to the team when she started as head coach. I think Sides didn't play Grace Berger this last game just so she could give Wheeler more minutes.
    From watching post game interviews, I am afraid Sides is a insecure person who cannot admit when she's wrong & she is very wrong about Wheeler & Wallace.
    Other things i think would help is the coach telling players they will run for every layup they miss. Not only will they fix those shots but it will get them in better shape. Boston & others didn't play overseas in off season & you only have a 2 week training camp. The players have to take it on themselves to keep up their cardio off season. They should be kickboxing.

      Her coach needs to watch caitlin's college games so she'll know caitlin's capabilities and how to use her best. it seems she has no idea of how caitlin plays and think of her as just a good shooter, just one of the guys. She should realize that she has one unicorn college player (all-time ncaa scorer and 6th all time wnca in assists) and she can't be that if she was just a "good shooter". If Caitlin can duplicate her college success, then that makes her coaching job a lot easier.

    It's too bad all these new eyes are there to watch a team that is less together than 90% of pickup games I use to play in. I have watched a lot of womens basketball and this may be the least cohesive team I have ever seen. A lot of it I just don't understand.
    CC was quite good yesterday. She had 15 at the half and if they hadn't taken away a 3 (terrible way from the ball call), and the questionable offensive foul (it was a high hook, but she is getting mauled on those screen blitzes and they catch the reaction) on a nice drive it would've been 20. She could easily have had double assists (very poor conversion % on some really nice setups form CC) even though she was mostly playing off the point.
    Now CC is still misreading the speed of the defense, and is still making some bad reads, so there is plenty for her to cleanup as well, but that is to be expected. I do not understand the at all the reasoning of playing CC and Wheeler together, let alone having CC off the point. Wheeler can create pace, but she really doesn't see the court that well, and cannot finish either. Mitchel may just be rusty, but she also has tunnel vision when driving and isn't finishing either.
    Both Boston and Smith are undersized and look slow. That is a pretty bad combo. If you are undersized you better be quick and neither is at the moment. So they have no rim protection and they are small at the point and upfront. The center (#14) who cannot catch a pass or make a layup, at least is a decent athlete and can run the court.
    I would put CC at the point, start #14 (eventually she will start catching the ball & make some layups), bench Wheeler, and put both Boston & Smith on a regimine to get shape so they can move. I either resists look for a trade. You can't bench Boston, but you could bench Smith. If you are undersized and don't defend well you dang sure better be able to run and generate easy offense like Iowa was and did. Samuelson also doesn't move, defend or finish well. It is just a very poorly constructed combination of players to team with CC.

    It’s the third game of the season and they have a new starter who up until now has been THE SYSTEM.
    Let that sink in.
    Lebron has been THE system for a long time and outside of Cleveland, That has NOT worked.
    When a player is the system, they don’t run an offense, they simply make reads and everything flows through THEM.
    Lebron wanted things to be that way in Miami but they were not having it.
    Lakers bubble year had too many vets that held Lebron accountable and had their own chips to show for it.
    It only worked in Cleveland and even Kyrie bucked that notion and had to leave.
    Clark is no different. She needs come back to hearth.
    She is not athletic and strong enough AT THIS LEVEL to get to AND finish at the rim with any comsistency.
    So let’s pump the brakes and let her get in shape and learn the game at the pro level.
    Lastly, their biggest problem is that they don’t PRACTICE at GAME SPEED.
    I see videos of them doing pick and roll drills and there is not pressure or contact on Clark because they have trainers and staff applauding everything she does because the defenders are acting like They’re the Washington Generals….
    And you go into a game and wonder why your players don’t seem tough???
    You treat CC WITH KID GLOVES AND YOU CANT TOUCH HER..
    The organization, coach and players need to buy into getting her ready

      @micdewitt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      she was one of the top 3 players on the floor tonight out there with MVPs and multiple All Stars. I think she has the game down already, honestly. Always room to grow, but she's not behind 90% of these pros everyone keep saying she needs to learn how to play against. Even the first game, 20 pts to lead the game and 6 FTs to lead her team in attempts/makes. 70% of league haven't done that once in careers, the 10 TOs notwithstanding. Second game was rough, but still was tied for team lead with 7 boards and led the only run they did have in the 3rd to cut it to 11. She's already the leader. This "Caitlin has to learn" narrative isn't real - yes she'll get stronger and wiser and more efficient but she's already playing at an All Star level to be honest. Jewell Llyod went 3/19 in their 1st game..Stew's first game was 8 and 8. CC is doing great, the team isn't.

      @@micdewitt CC is the franchise player, NOT the leader.
      Big difference. You have to EARN that.
      This will come with time and trust.
      During the bubble , GIANNIS was the face but Not the leader.for the Bucks.
      How do we know this?
      When the BLM stuff occurred you saw the response to this led by George Hill, Eric.Bledsoe and another player.
      Giannis was nowhere to be found.
      And when he needed to extend, guess who was NOT there the following year??
      Exactly,…
      Players will have to be let go in order for CC to become the leader.
      The REST of the team will need to see that CC is going to be the leader.
      If you shoot as much as she does, you will score.and if the ball is in your hands this much you will score, if you choose. There’s no reason for a rookie to be shoot in more than 20 times like A’ka Wilson or other MVP’s.
      Now, CC does not play good defense… Kate Martin does and is why she played over 30 minutes.
      was dubbed the GLUE on the Iowa Team
      We’re invested in Clark’s success because there’s a movement to bring in a more conservative leaning audience and that will make it EASIER to bring in MORE players that reflect this potential fanbase that the league wants to attract.
      Yes, I’m saying the quiet part out loud…
      Kate Martin will affect winning more and CC will impact the bottom line more.
      Eventually the calls will change to favor Clark and then know the terraforming is in place.
      CC is a good offensive player but her turnovers and defense is lacking along either way her physicality is in need of improvement.
      She also cannot be the leader UNTIL her post game answers are in alignment with her coach and they are not.
      She’s not speaking for the rest of the team either. She has to earn that trust.
      I’m not a fan of anointing people until they’ve paid the price …
