A very inspiring video! I have about 250cubic meters of solid wood sitting here from our cutting this year and need to start selling it next year. Your way and your workflows really inspired me.
well done .. great inspirational video as has been mentioned .. the biggest asset you have is youre own inner driving force .. keep it going on the yard and on here .. cheers
New to the channel, binge watching to catch up! I'm an old git and would like to say you're an inspirational, hard working young man. Great to see in this day and age. Ps, woody needs his own channel 😊
Tbh with you chap, I am you but 10 years behind. I'm sitting upfront of a fire with logs that I cut and split myself be like you but my parents said they didn't want to drive me around with logs to various customers! That vid did help alot, cheers!
Love watching your videos! This one really helps to bring your journey to life, with the many videos I've so far viewed. My favourite TH-cam channel by far! Very inspiring. Thank you 😊 👍
Most people don't know how to start a business. They would benefit by listening to this video. It helps if the demand for wood is increasing at the same time you are trying to sell.
Hi I've just found your channel as I have just started doing firewood and it nice to hear your journey please keep going and I will keep watching good luck
Wonderful. It might actually cost you more to buy timber and have it season for a year. Your cash is stuck there. Buying drying selling might actually be cheaper. Great job!!! Merry Christmas!
Loved this Archie. You are a hard working intelligent lad. That business is going to fly. You are definitely going to need more storage for seasoned firewood. I would start planning a new shed at your yard asap. Keep up the videos if you can, I love to watch them
Great video. Love it. So great to hear how you bootstrapped the business. WRT wholesale; keep them. Increase production. If they’re not profitable enough then increase your price. They might leave, but also they may not. If you turn them away they certainly leave. WRT loans; that’s obviously necessary, but you’re loaning it to keep piles of wood sitting in the yard. You need inventory, but keep that wood moving as fast as possible. 750 seasoned bags sitting in a shed for half a year that’s almost 100k that you’re not repaying, but paying interest on. Also that second barn, it may be necessary, but it’s costly. Moving all that wood around (between the oak farm and the 2nd barn) is costing you time and thus money, but doesn’t add any value to the product (ie it would be equally good if you stored it on site). That’s on top of the rental fee.
Yes very true! I am pushing for another barn at oak farm but time will tell. Ibc’s are the way to go at the moment for the kiln dried stuff! The rent on second barn isn’t that bad and moving the bags didn’t cost to much if I’m honest! It’s a huge help having stuff ready to go, I’ll give the second barn another year I think
Hey Archie! I throughly enjoyed having a sit and listening to your story this evening! You’re absolutely hands down a very driven hard worker whom is clearly motivated and focused on your goals in mind with building a great and successful business 🔥💯👍! I found this video quite inspiring and heartfelt to be honest and wanted to thank you for sharing this with us! It was really great to hear about and see some photos from the beginning of your business journey! This in turn I found helped answer some other questions I had along the way while going through your previous content. Also, hearing about your TH-cam journey thus far was neat too! I’ve enjoyed going back in your catalog of videos and getting caught up since finding your channel in the later part of this year! For me, I enjoy watching all the great firewood content out there in TH-cam and at one time Archie, I used to do firewood for our home heating, but circumstances changed throughout the years and it’s been quite awhile since I’ve been on the working end of a saw or a splitter! But with that being said, I’ve always appreciated in general the hard work that doing firewood takes and for myself, I thoroughly enjoy it an hope to get back doing it soon, but for now TH-cam is a great way to keep that firewood itch burning for me lol :). Anyways Archie, I want to extend a sincere thanks for having such great content / channel and for taking us along on your business journey! Really love the channel and keep up the great work! Looking forward to what’s to come in the new year with Oak Farm Firewood! Have a very Merry Christmas and happy new year and I will definitely see you on the next one! Cheers! Andrew from NB, Canada :)
And further to my renewable electricity comment, I absolutely love your channel and this is a fascinating insight into how you got started. Many thanks and hope that 2024 goes well for you.
As always, thanks for sharing a little insight into your firewood world. Just started a firewood business in the states and will be using some of ides to hopefully make this thing work over here. Thanks Archie, nice job.
You have definitely come a long way since I started watching you grow.. I hired a driver this year and it's one of the best business decisions I've made since 2020.. look forward to what next year has to bring.. Merry Christmas and happy new year
Great video man, you weren't rambling, Keep up the honesty it's how you tubers survive and go big. Knowing about the struggles helps me motivate myself!! Best firewood youtube channel by far, Hope you have a break !
Hats off to you lad, been watching a cpl of months now and love the content and just pressumed it were a family farm ect so fair play for taking such a big risk with finance ect i can guess that is must be a fortune so all the best 👌👌
Thanks Archie for this video, it's great to hear how it all started. I always look forward to your latest video that comes out. It must take away a lot of your productive time filming these video's but they are great to watch. Have a great Christmas and hope you do get to have a bit of a break over the holiday period!
Hi Archie, really enjoying your channel, looking forward to seeing what your future plans are. Solar can make sense for your business because your using power when the system will be producing, as long as the sun is shining. Don't look at the cost now look at how it will be over the life of the system, at least 25 years for the panels. Here in Australia our electricity prices have tripled in the last 3 years so factor in that the cost of electricity will also just keep going up.
Think you've done superb buddy, as a fellow log merchant business owner i totally understand your views and i believe you've done brilliant good luck for the future
Brilliant video Archie. I am also in the same business as yourself. Alot of hard work and determination to move forward, Just at the stage of thinking it time for a kiln. For my own business. It would be nice to get a chat with you about your kiln set up and cost of installing it.
I hope you had a good Christmas and a happy prosperous New Year good video, you’ve come along way in a very short time I like the way you are realistic about your goals and strive towards them. Being self-employed myself, I know what it’s like to be your own boss. It’s good freedom to an extent, but at the end of the day, every person buying your product or service is ultimately your boss.
Great video mate - well done on building your business to what it is today, and lookikng forward to watching how things progress into 2024. Merry Christmas from NZ!
The only advice I can give you is if you can keep producing enough wood to supply to keep up with your retail customers and wholesale do them both. If you have more retail then you can keep up then look at your options to drop wholesale. Peace.
@oakfarmfirewood still watching lol. Wish I was closer, would love to see your operation. I have a Hardscaping company and looking into some land for firewood production for my employees to do in the winter.
So, solar electricity: I think you might want to talk to Good Energy. They're a fantastic company who buy and sell just renewable electricity (they sell gas too but have some way of offsetting the fossil carbon involved) and they might be very interested in working with you; the fact you're providing renewable/low carbon heating fuel may well be attractive to them. Obviously I have no idea of how much they'll pay YOU for solar (that you don't use as it's made) but I buy my power from them and sell my excess PV electricity to them. Tell them Compost John in York recommended them - I was their very first customer in my city, back in 1999.
Hallo archie, i followedyour advice and bought a drying kit from germany. A hot air system from schreiber anlagenbau which i fuel with my Hargassner hot water gassicationer. I have a question relating to this. How much fuelwood do you need for drying one cage of firewood. How may cages do you fit in the container? Regards Rutger from holland.
I use an ibc of fuel every 24 hours but I’m drying 27 cages in 4 days or 54 in 6-7 days from green! If you are drying already seasoned/part seasoned you can half them numbers
Been waiting for this Archie and it didn’t disappoint very interesting I hope one day to do similar. Do you by any chance have any advice on getting ahold of hardwood I’m in Essex and am struggling to get wood. Have a good Christmas Monty.

like the way of looking at a machine as an employee by paying it like a monthly wage
A friend of mine once told me this way and it made total sense
New to the channel, binge watching to catch up! I'm an old git and would like to say you're an inspirational, hard working young man. Great to see in this day and age. Ps, woody needs his own channel 😊
