Hi Justin, I’ve watched you for years- love your videos. I’m a retired master technician. I’ve rebuilt many Skidsteers, tractors and alike since retiring. I know your videos are a week behind but I can’t help to find myself say “Justin just call me, I’ll walk you through the process of diagnosing and how to fix!” I live on Long Island NY. Because of you I picked up 8 chickens and I learned a lot by watching you- I’d like to return the favor!! Gif bless and Happy Day!
Hey Justin, Yankee farm trick…Pour your new milk into a sun tea jug with a bottom spigot and chill. Then drain the bottom layer milk and leave the cream (like a gravy fat separator).
Genius hatch. I also saw Sarah from our Tribe of Many siphoned the skim with a plastic tube from the bottom. Both methods seem more efficient than scooping it out with a small ladle.
the fitting on the end of the bolt is called a grease ZERK - there will be lot's of zerks on both machines and theym ALL need doing regularly (read the book that came with it to find them all) - if the boys have done a days work in the machines then the zerk's need greasing - you must grease the moving parts or you will wreak the machines lots od $$$ to fix - if a zerk does not take grease you can get replacement zerks - you need those on hand as well - a kit for each of the machines to ensure you have the right size parts for each
YES!! I agree with everything above. It is definitely worth the investment on tools to work on the machinery. An enclosed shop would be ideal but somewhere undercover to work and a complete set of tools and a tool chest to hold everything plus extra space for what you don't realize you need, special tools you will need in the future, and power tools you will get as you can afford them. A piece of advice, tools in the workshop stay in the workshop. Put together tools from what you have for a toolbox to use for simple repairs in the field. I've been working with my hands for 50yrs one thing I can tell you is that good tools pay for themselves very quickly. Good luck men and keep at it. I had to pay the stupid fee a lot when I first started but I learned real quick.😀 and gave myself a rewarding career that I just retired from. PS: You NEVER stop learning new things😀
No judgement but I agree with others here that you would be wise to do a routine maintenance check on all equipment on a schedule to prevent many issues..and Josiah could learn from others and assume that task..he’s so good at that kind of thing. Happy new year Rhodes..wishing you and the family an abundance of blessings ❤🙏🏻
Hi Justin when working on the machine when the lift is in the air you should put a 4x4 or something under it In case it falls you have great kids please stay safe, God Bless y'all 🙏
Watch how Jason set up his chickens in his high tunnel, with the fence on the outside of the high tunnel (Sow the Land). Maybe put the solar panel outside the tunnel? Happy day blessings 🤗🇨🇦🌲
Hamsters - no! They sleep during the day and make noise at night in their wheels. They are also great at escaping and are very hard to catch again - one of ours got out once and we never found it until a couple of years later I noticed his dessicated body hanging between a table in the back room and the wall, he had gotten caught and starved to death. Another one got loose and ate his way through an entire drawer full of material for sewing and made a little nest at the bottom. The kids got bored with them pretty quick. I think a guinea pig would be much better, they are friendlier and larger, lots of the 4H kids had them and really enjoyed them.
We had a similar experience with my brother's hamsters. One ate the ruffle around a continental pillow, and another got electrocuted as it chewed on the cables for the speaker. My dog caught one and put his body in front of my mom's door. She was a good mouser. My mom was glad the dog found it before more cables were chewed and that was the last of the hamsters.
Your kids may not realize it now but they have learned so much by being farm boys. What they are doing is a lost skill that so many kids now don’t have and are not taught. They continue to amaze me. And Lily, she is an amazing girl. She can hold her own right along with them.
Justin. If your socket ratchet is too wide for the hole where the nuts are, you can buy an extender piece that will fit into the ratchet and the back of the socket.... For reaching nuts in tight. Deep spaces. I have 2. And like a set of nail sets, it will make things a LOT easier when it's needed. I like that you want the kids to LEARN how to fix stuff as they go. Because there are times when THAT ABILITY can make the difference in survival or failure. Many of us have been sleeping and waking up tired. I think the incoming polar vortex is affecting us at this time.
Put the milk to cool and separate in a sun tea pitcher with a spout. When separated open the spout to remove the skim from the cream into another container.
I worked at Lowes for close to a decade and boxing day was a busy one because the places like John Deere were always closed everywhere here in our county. Exactly what Rebecca said she'd check out the schematic is part of what my job was to do if we didn't have the parts. I'd do the research contact the manufacturer find out cost and figure out margins and order it. Learning all of that for my job really came in handy for when I owned my own home and had to replace things like a sump pump and cut through iron pipe with a reciprocating saw and other plumbing needs. Watching today's video really brought back memories thanks
I take our baby to bed fairly early, usually around 7-7:30, and then stay up crocheting or watching podcasts until I feel tired. But last night I went to sleep around 9:30 and felt more tired this morning when I got up at 7 than I do when I usually go to bed around 11pm and get up at 7.

Oh yes and grease every so often hours. Keep your tracks tight as the need to by maintaining grease. You same for your tractor Lucky. Even your vehicles. Don’t treat them as toys, they are useful implements for your farm.
On "Our tribe of many "web site. They are new to milking. Someone showed Sarah (the mom) how to separate the cream from the skim milk. She takes a length of fish tank hose, put it to the bottom of the milk jar. Have a five gallon bucket on the floor. Start a siphon keeping that end of the tube very close to the jars bottom. The skim milk goes in the bucket. Stop the siphon by putting your finger over the bucket end then change jars with the other end. Then put the end toward the bucket and take your finger off the tube end. Siphon action continues. My mom used your method but this one looks easier. The bigger the hose the faster it siphons. Don't get the tiny air hose size. It would take a long time. Get a drain hose for an aquarium.
So proud of yall for fixing the skid steer! You should have a dedicated place for tools and keep them in there! My grandpa would skin us alive if we didn’t put his tools back where we found them when we were done using them! If we lost them, we had to use our own money to replace them! Maybe you should try that with the kids! It only takes one time having to buy replacement tools for us kids not to loose them! Hard lesson learned! Happy New Year!

Good video. Shows the frustrations and happiness for sense of accomplishment of fixing something on your own. Those boys are really an asset to the farm family!
Justin yiur boys have natural ability and seem to enjoy the puzzle of mechanical things. When I was a girl I got left alone to fix stuff once I had a sense of it. Learned a lot. I bet they could take over maintenance and repairs if they are given resources, meaning the tools, and youtube, and maybe some days helping Mark. That's a really valuable skill for all of life.
I don’t get it. There’s no maintenance being done on any of the machines. But, you’re being stubborn and not having someone with the knowledge fix it instead. The boys are you are just guessing on what to do. You can do more harm than good. You have soooo many problems with the machines and it can all be avoided by following a proper maintenance checklist before every use. It’s so simple and takes literally minutes to do. Ito save you so much extra time and money. Not to mention following maintenance programs with the animals as well. Stick to keeping up with the sheep. All of the issues with them can all be avoided. I know I’m not the only on here thinking about all of these things.
And not to mention the wood boiler. You’re breaking these things because of things you’re doing. I get it you don’t realize that. But, take a training course, do your research, etc. don’t just guess. Those things are meant to be very efficient. Watching what you’re doing to it is making me cringe. Please do your research and learn how to use it!
Only you and other like minded people - they have a gorgeous farm and are doing excellent! You have an over indoctrinated mindset and live in a box...the BEST way to learn is to actually LEARN - you don't need a hand book for everything that is definitely NOT how to master anything- take your opinion and go DO something useful yourself...
@ I would think a “handbook” for a $100K (and more) piece of equipment or structure or machinery would be beneficial, such as how to repair, how to clean, how to maintain, how to raise, how to store. But when it’s your own time and money, you get to do what you want for sure. Ironically, Justin may not agree with you that books aren’t necessary to learn, he does sell such books, by the way 😁.
Teens need more sleep than middle aged men..fact! They are growing and recharging hormones etc. In some countries its recognised and teens dont need to get to school until after 10am.
@EmbracethechaosPortugal tell it to our country... School starts around 7:45 here... All the kids are tired and getting adhd etc. At the end of the school years they are dumber than before! Trust me, i'm a teacher who fixes children after school hours.
Come on, give him a break. That kind of criticism could discourage him from participating in this awesome channel. This is an honor for us, and too many people are so critical. This family is wonderful!
@daphnerandall4084 @daphnerandall4084 I'm not being critical. He is an exceptional young man. I am so impressed with everything he does so its funny to see him act like a typical teen. I couldn't love the Rhodes chidlers more if they were actually my family.
How to teach kids how to save? We taught our kids that they had to put 20% of their money in savings. If they got $50.00 for a birthday or Christmas gift, they had to put $10.00 of that in savings.
Sleeping in is the worst habit to get into. Makes good men and women lazy and out of shape. 5 o’clock rise and shine! Greet the Lord, then greet the day. Keeps a person healthy, wealthy, and wise. Rise up early, and get to bed early. Keeps a person productive and out of trouble.
Great video!!! Glad you got it fixed..Happy Day❤your boys are GREAT !! Setting them up first success..Good job Papa ..Jonah love your hair❤ The Beautiful One does an excellent job!!!
I love watching the family work and some of the daily struggles....because it gives me the motivation to get out there and make improvements. Its easy to get demotivated by all of the work sometimes, and then for every task that you accomplish, there are 5 more that "get put on the list". Thank you Justin and Fam for being real! Oh, and I love hearing your kiddos grumble a little.....it makes me feel a little better about my teenagers grumbling😂
My brothers each have the big tool set in the black box from Harbor Freight. When they lose enough sockets and / or break some of the screw drivers, they make one set complete and bring the other back and trade for a new box. But for specialty stuff we recommend buying the proper tool and the shop manual for each piece of equipment.
Justin your boiler supplies ALL of your heat, not just for the furnace. Remember the sinks, bathtubs, laundry machines, dishwashers! If you dont have hot water dishes, bodies, clothes arent clean.
Why would you give a baby lamb to Winnie to eat? Won't that confuse her when lambing starts? I would think to compost it if you don't have pigs. Chicken parts, entrails, etc are one thing, but a whole intact lamb?
A 1/2" drive and a 3/8" drive ratchet, extensions of 2" and 4", along with a complete set of common socket sizes (for your equipment) are invaluable for working on your own machinery. Also, a grease gun and several cans of grease. Also a can of degreaser and shop towels to help clean off the areas that get really grungy with grease or oil to you can SEE to work. Maybe put a chart in the tool area to remind when each vehicle needs maintenance (check owner's manuals for time/work hour recommendations), and don't forget to have a sign-off when and who did it so nobody is doubling up. First few times, it's my suggestion everyone involved with the machines walks through the greasing and maintenance process together and then it'll be easier to remember the locations of all the fittings. It can be frustrating in the beginning (frequent trips to get items needed or get "the right part") but it does get easier with practice.
If you need someone experienced to come help with the machine maintenance id be glad to come help you guys. We are close to enough to make the trip. Love the show, have learned alot from you and Joel, and would love to give back.
Maybe you know by now, but you'll need a torque wrench. If they gave you the machine workshop manual, you will find there the torque settings for all the bolted connections.

I had a Hamster that got out. Was gone for a couple months. One night in the middle of the night something fell onto my leg. It was the hamster it had been in the ceiling above the tiles. I have heard of someone’s couch falling apart after a hamster ate the back off.

Happy new year Rhodes..wishing you and the family an abundance of blessings ❤🙏🏻
Not sure if there is courses he could go on to learn this stuff or apprenticeship. ( Maybe he's not interested) Would also be a good sideline to make extra pennies going out fixing other farmers machinery.
If my husband watched your channel I think he would Flip . He was brought up that you maintain your equipment everyday. That means Grease , change oil, and clean everyday . After so many hours , maintenance. Josiah Respect your elders. Never talk back with disrespect.
Is it a good idea to feed winnie a still born of the animals she protects. Wont she start seeing them as a food source? I remember you said dont feed chickens their egg shells or they will eat their own eggs all the time. Same would apply i would think.
Yes you are right. Dogs go by scent for everything. When they smell a new born lamb. Normally they will fight these urges. But Winnie will now think oh wait im allowed to eat these cause my master gave me permission. It also applys to the chickens eating their own eggs. Once they start it can be difficult to stop.
Cheaper to buy whole new set when missing the ratchet as well as other tools. I love my tools. If you have a ace hardware they can match the machine thread in that bolt.

You need to make sure that boys agrees that machine both machines everyday when they get into it they need grease that's why you're having problems you cannot tear that attachment apart without having grease on your hands if it's properly maintained😊
That was a special bolt with a grease fitting in the end of it you're not going to find that at Lowe's you need to go to John Deere it's obvious it's got a grease fitting in it to grease spitting greasy something your machines are not being properly maintained
Just a note about your new freeze dryer. Someone told me they sometimes vibrate off the table. So, my new one (Christmas gift) is going to be clamped down to the counter.

I have two teenage boys almost 15 and 19 and let me tell you, they sleep!!! The older one doesn’t need the 10 hours anymore but the almost 15 yr old does.
Justin your fire is going out because you're not putting enough wood in the fire. Those boilers are supposed to have a bunch of wood in them. The boiler limits oxygen to slow the fire when the heats not needed.
I finally asked a Canadian friend what Boxing Day is about. I've wondered for years. It used to be like Black Friday but then they started doing Black Friday so it isn't really the same but it's still a holiday so - yay!
and Boxing day is when the wealthy allowed the servants to take day off to share with family....n servants allowed to BOX UP all the leftovers ...hence BOXING DAY !!!
Boxing day originated in france../england..when the day after Christmas all the help would have the day off & "Box " up leftovers and take them home for their families.
That will only work for a few iterations and then the balance of the organisms starts to drift. It will still be yogurt but it won't have the same taste or consistency.
It's a natural aspect of human growth. Kids wake up early and sleep early and once they become teens they naturally begin sleeping in later and staying up later, this continues until early adulthood when it returns to the earlier nights and mornings. Let them stay up later than you do and instead of morning chores they have independent chores they do at night once you've gone to bed

Boxing Day is commonly celebrated in Commonwealth countries. Living in Nova Scotia, Canada most people not only get Christmas off their jobs they also get Boxing Day off. Family time is a priority.

A thought. If the solar isn’t getting a charge inside; thread the panel and wire under the edge of the high tunnel.
suggestion for the water troughs (since you have electric hookups for the fence) - try using an aquarium heater.
Justin make a chores list .... so people can look through the list and do the chores
Late to bed late to rise leads to an early demise... 😂
That’s what I was going to say
Get those boys an alarm clock! They are way too old to be waiting on you in order to get out of bed on time.
Whew! Jonah's getting a little bossy. He's definitely in full teenage mode.😂
@@pussnbootsxL He turned 17 two weeks ago. Hes not ready.
I couldn't love the Rhodes chidlers more if they were actually my family.
his dad is the micromanager of the year
You'll have to put the solar on the outside not the inside of the high tunnel
Great work man! thanks for bringing us along.
Great job. Perseverance paid off.
How to teach kids how to save? We taught our kids that they had to put 20% of their money in savings. If they got $50.00 for a birthday or Christmas gift, they had to put $10.00 of that in savings.
We did 50%
Good job fixing it! Let the kids sleep! They will have all their lives to not sleep enough! Blessings!
Loving Jonah's haircut. Great look and easier to handle with hair out of his face. ❤️
I love Jonah’s Haircut, he looks so much older now like 23. It looks great!
God Bless keep those long videos coming !
Be the Father,, not a friend. I know not on camera you discipline. Love your channel we all got opinions. Not to be from me disrespectful.
Having tools and learning to mechanic is an important, and money saving, part of farm and ranch life.
Reminds me when I fix small machinery. It is at least three trips to the hardware store. Thank goodness it is only 3 miles away!
Wow, Josiah’s a true mechanic too! You’re all so awesome 👏 ❤
This sounds deceptive. Am I misunderstanding?
Jonah new haircut looks good !
If you need someone experienced to come help with the machine maintenance id be glad to come help you guys. We are close to enough to make the trip. Love the show, have learned alot from you and Joel, and would love to give back.
When we don’t have days of sun, I plug my energizer in and keep it dry. I’ll run it that way until we get a sunny day.
Maybe you know by now, but you'll need a torque wrench. If they gave you the machine workshop manual, you will find there the torque settings for all the bolted connections.
🐔 It’s nice seeing free ranging chickens around the place!
Jonah your hair looks great!
From Cape Breton Island In Mabou Nova Scotia Canada........
Happy New Year to you and the family... Have a blessed Day ..May God Bless us ALL ...
Jan 2 nd 2025 ...................................🇲🇹......🇨🇦
It's good to teach your children farm work awesome job
We Need to Connect!!!
Guys are so much fun ... "we're fixin' stuff." 😀
Love Your Haircut
Jonah, it looks great!
❤
A thermocouple is a type of thermometer, it may need to be recalibrated or replaced.
They have replaced that and broken it multiple times.
Run the solar panel for the fence under the side of the high tunnel.
WHAT THE HECK, Jonah's now had two haircuts 30:52 in just this video. He had the best blonde mane I've seen in a long time. Who made him get scalped?
He looks awesome 😊
Remind me not to buy a computerized dish washer. I don't need the internet to wash my dishes.😮
With heavy equipment you should really invest in a 3/4” drive socket set. At one point you WILL need it.
I had a Hamster that got out. Was gone for a couple months. One night in the middle of the night something fell onto my leg. It was the hamster it had been in the ceiling above the tiles. I have heard of someone’s couch falling apart after a hamster ate the back off.
Whew, on the job training . So satisfying when you get it done.
3 trips to town and all afternoon but you guys got it done lol…that’s usually how it goes when your learning something new😂😂..No judgement but I agree with others here that you would be wise to do a routine maintenance check on all equipment on a schedule to prevent many issues..and Josiah could learn from others and assume that task..he’s so good at that kind of thing. Happy new year Rhodes..wishing you and the family an abundance of blessings ❤🙏🏻
Not sure if there is courses he could go on to learn this stuff or apprenticeship.
( Maybe he's not interested)
Would also be a good sideline to make extra pennies going out fixing other farmers machinery.
Another day of the keystone mechanics.
I enjoy your videos. You guys do so much. Your boys respect you and stick by you. Wow, have they grown up so tall. Where is Mr. Brown?
20:41 i thought that was his in both pictures hahahaha😂
If my husband watched your channel I think he would Flip . He was brought up that you maintain your equipment everyday. That means Grease , change oil, and clean everyday . After so many hours , maintenance.
Josiah Respect your elders. Never talk back with disrespect.
💪🏽🙌🏽😂 get em!
Yes NY and other states you can buy raw yogurt & cheese. Not the nanny states like CA + NJ
Raw milk is available on the shelf from two different dairies at my local store in California.
@ladycountdown I have fam east of San Francisco. Can they get raw milk there too
HAPPY NEW YEAR FELIZ ANO NUEV0 RHODES FAMILY, I THINK IT MAYBE BEST TO SUOP FOR TOYS WHEN THE RETURNS HAVE BEEN STOCKED ON THEIR SHELVES AFTER CHRISTMAS AND NOW BETWEEN 50 TO 75 PERCENT OFF CLEARANCE PRICES TO SELL LEFT OVER TOYS AND OTHER HOLIDAY ITEMS. THANKS FOR SHARING ALL YALL VIDEOS, I LOVE THEM AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THEM EVERY POSTING. YAAAA
Great job Lily! 💪💪💪
I love your longer vids!❤❤❤ The short ones where oder!
Just lift the wall plastic and put the charger outside. You’re making it harder than it needs to be. Run some extension wires.
That hamster won't live long with that kid.dont bother.a hamster is to small with his adhd.
Seriously? Gideon has matured SO much.. he’s more responsible than a lot of adults and teens these days.
How to save?
Put 10% of everything you make in savings.
My sister loved hamsters! The Russian hamster is the calmest and friendliest. Just know they have a Short life😮. ❤
Just a note about your new freeze dryer. Someone told me they sometimes vibrate off the table. So, my new one (Christmas gift) is going to be clamped down to the counter.
Hi, love your vlogs. How to get children to save... Old School... My mum, opened a bank account for me. ( we got an old fashioned Piggy bank - in the form of a safe , 6 " tall). Aannyyway, any money we earned, or were given , 50% HAD to be banked, the balance was our own....
Very quickly, we learned to shop wisely. Lorraine Australia
Wow Son is totally your clone... & you married way out of your league... 😮. Match made in heaven
I love that you ask your kids instead of tell. It only works because they say No but still do it. Lol
I finally asked a Canadian friend what Boxing Day is about. I've wondered for years. It used to be like Black Friday but then they started doing Black Friday so it isn't really the same but it's still a holiday so - yay!
lol....bk Friday is because in retail it took till Fri after thanksgiving to get into the black/ profit..!!!!
and Boxing day is when the wealthy allowed the servants to take day off to share with family....n servants allowed to BOX UP all the leftovers ...hence BOXING DAY !!!
@lcostantino7931 Oh. Thank you. I like learning new things.
Boxing day originated in france../england..when the day after Christmas all the help would have the day off & "Box " up leftovers and take them home for their families.
can you use some of your yogurt as your yogurt starter? that way you don’t have to buy yogurt?
That will only work for a few iterations and then the balance of the organisms starts to drift. It will still be yogurt but it won't have the same taste or consistency.
It's a natural aspect of human growth. Kids wake up early and sleep early and once they become teens they naturally begin sleeping in later and staying up later, this continues until early adulthood when it returns to the earlier nights and mornings. Let them stay up later than you do and instead of morning chores they have independent chores they do at night once you've gone to bed
I have heard of Boxing Day,but it is not celebrated here in the United States, I believe it’s recognized in Canada and the British commonwealth
youtube veiwer sees 20 minutes of someone elses day: "why are you doing it wrong ahahahahaha... hate comment comment."
youtuber: thank you for your engagement and add revenew.
Boxing Day is commonly celebrated in Commonwealth countries. Living in Nova Scotia, Canada most people not only get Christmas off their jobs they also get Boxing Day off. Family time is a priority.
Just take both machines to the dealer and get them fully serviced very 6 months, you won’t have many problems then
