​Bevra Hahn is Distinguished Professor of Medicine (Emerita) at UCLA, where she led the Rheumatology research, teaching and clinical care group for 30 years. She has her MD from Johns Hopkins and has provided patient care, teaching and research (leading to several patents) at Johns Hopkins, Washington University in St Louis and UCLA. She is married to an academic physician; they have two daughters and two grandsons.
Two areas of women’s rights have been a passion: 1) equal opportunities for leadership and 2) equal pay for women. At her universities and in organizations such as the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), she has worked to greatly increase the number of women in leadership positions (which has improved dramatically but is still not at parity.) She was President of the ACR, at that time unusual for a woman. For 5 years she chaired a committee to equalize salaries in the School of Medicine at a major university, which had some success, but again did not reach the goal of complete parity. Dr. Hahn looks forward to sharing her experience - and ideas about what can be done NOW - in these areas with TEDX.
