    The diaphragm you are seeing is on the EGR system, exhaust gas recirculating valve. Part of the emission system. Without the ECM and original carb probably not working as designed.

      Thanks, yeah when I had it out I traced it onto a piece of metal, might just block it off. I think that hole might explain why the #4 plug was so clean. I thought that would solve my rough idle issue but it didn't. Yesterday I was able to drive about 8 miles round trip to get pizza, an hour ago I took it to the mailbox and it died and didn't want to restart. I had to push it home. Felt like fuel starvation, I dont know how I made it home yesterday but I'm thankful. I'm gonna go check it in a few minute. Check fuel pressure going to the carb and if that's good it might be that power valve I replaced yesterday in the bottom of the bowl. Hopefully I'll have answers in the next video. Thank you again!

    That cap is to plug rear of valve. Bleeds exhaust gas out and as long as the valve does not open it should not affect the intake.

      Yeah these NGK's aren't impressive, I think I saved my old one's. I only replaced them because I figured it might help back when I was on my quest to pass emissions. I might clean them up and throw em back in to see if there's any change. I prob will do what you said and look up what it came with. There's so many more choices now than back in '87. I just swapped the wires with my roommate's new Delco ones and it didn't seem to make a difference so I don't think the wires are the issue.

    Some week ago I asked if you would keep the car or sell it. You said you’d have to sell it.
    If it was me, no kids, no wife, I’d sell the Jeep and keep the Samurai just for the heck & fun of it. Just for the fun of not being/doing what everyone else would.

      I thought about it but it doesn't have AC, can't really go over 60mph, cant fit much in it, and I can't leave anything in it with the soft top. I just need something more practical for a primary vehicle. Plus I don't think I'd even get much for the Jeep, I love that thing, but they're not worth much. It's my favorite vehicle that I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. Only thing that sucks is how much it chugs gas, but it's such a fun vehicle with the awd and that hemi.

      Do you mean the blacks stuff I put down in the bed? If so that's bed liner. It's just a really tough coating that stands up to abuse. It had some on there from the factory (rough texture black coating) but its 37 years old so I was just redoing it and trying to make it look better. What I did in these last 2 videos was with a product called Herculiner. I bought the bed liner kit for like $120 at Advance Auto. It's on Amazon for $99, (I think I put a link in the description). I did the floor on the front part of the cab months ago and it rolled on so much better back then, but where I live it's 110° right now and part of it evaporated which made it more clumpy and harder to lay down. I have a video or 2 of when I did the front area and you can see how much nicer it laid down when it was a fresh can.

      Cracked coil verified. All the angry pixies are arcing out from under the boot to the ground lug on the coil. Crazy that you noticed the color of the spark. Yesterday I checked for spark before I took the carb all the way off again. I had spark, then later, after the carb was back on, no spark. I was trying to check a plug like the last video and my dad noticed orange by the coil boot. Then I started digging and found the crack.. Hoping that was my erratic idle issue. Also hoping the hole in the EGR valve was why that #4 plug was so clean. We'll know soon enough. I'm gonna try to track down a coil today. Anyways, good eye noticing the color of the spark!

      Strange that the coil broke. Good you found it the error.
      #4 spark is probably clean because of lack of fuel or lack of spark igniting it.

    • @FixLife119
      @FixLife119  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BorisEkner Yeah that could very well be. That hole was right at the end of the intake runner for cyl 3 & 4, so I was thinking maybe it was sucking outside air from that hole in the egr valve. I'll pull that plug again after putting some miles on her, but for today I gotta replace the coil and hopefully get her running again lol.

    • @FixLife119
      @FixLife119  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BorisEkner Yeah I'm thinking with that big crack there maybe the expansion and contraction from engine heat was making that crack swell and kinda seal itself when it got hot and maybe that's why the idle wasn't as erratic when hot. I'm reaching now but it sounded good in my brain lol.

      I don’t think parts will be that difficult. Most are standard, i.e., not many special parts. I think they will swap the 3L straight 6 for something more modern. I think that will be a mistake as the straight 6 has a lot of torque. Torque is what you need off-road, not HP’s.

I'm just wondering if they charge more for Lexus ES plug wires vs Toyota Camry plug wires when they're the same thing. Take a given brand of plug wires, I bet they're the same lengths for alot of different makes/models of vehicles but they seem to catalog them by individual make/model for some reason.

      @@jomac151 Exactly, in the 90's I remember buying kits, you'd just order the V8 kit and it came with a bunch of long wires and you cut em to length and terminate the ends, came with the boots and dielectric grease etc. Those days are gone. Nowadays instead of one $40 coil you got a $200 coil per cylinder. So my Samurai is 37 years old. I'm always saying if you look forward to 2061 when a current 2024 vehicle is 37 years old they will be in the crusher. They are just too complicated for it to be cost effective to restore something with that many computer modules and so much stuff to wear out. I honestly think there would be a good market for whatever auto maker produced the simplest car that any DIY'er could keep and maintain forever, with simple cheap basic parts. Probably impossible with all the emissions restrictions but a guy can dream right?
