You probably won’t see this. But I just wanted to say. I’m an opiate/fentanyl addict. & last year I got clean.. that comes with withdrawal. And while I was sick as a dog for around 14 days from chemical dependency. I listened to this TH-cam channel. It helped me through those rough days & long nights. Helped me stay diligent, instead of just relapsing to end the sickness. It may sound corny but this channel saved my life in a way. Next week I will have a full year of complete sobriety. You know, there's a weird thing about the original What If. Early on, they did the famed What If Someone Else Had Become Spider-Man (which you noted), using Betty Brant, Flash Thompson, and John Jameson. The whole point of the Spider-Man story was that anyone in the right place at the wrong time (so to speak) could have been bitten by the radioactive spider and gained spider powers. But in the end, that mantra of "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" was always paramount, and demonstrated how these very different personalities took that mantra to heart. A year later, they did a variant on the concept using Nova (Richard Rider), but it didn't work as well. In the Nova issue, the energy that turned Richard Rider into Nova seemed to be beamed all over the place. There was no consistency as to any of the stories - either its frame or how its protagonist gains the Nova power. One focused on a homeless man who for some reason lived in a world where none of the Marvel metahumans ever existed. Another focused on a young lady obsessed with revenge following the death of her husband and shows no mercy to her targets, even the Kingpin. One was an even more unlucky and morose Peter Parker, the only story with a recognizable protagonist. And the final story focused on an unnamed criminal who lucked onto the Nova powers AND the ship and tried to make himself the super criminal of all time with Doctor Doom and the Sphinx. It wasn't a case of being in the right place at the right time, and didn't do a good job of emphasizing Spider-Man's mantra. In short, it was as if Marvel had a manual on how to do the story(ies) but miffed the exam. Very weird.
Lol. Loved that last Spider-Man story. Marvel could pick up thread for a continued What If story. Also, I would have loved a story where J Jonah Jameson was bitten by the spider. What would that have looked like. Spider-Editor?
I *desperately* need more of that last one. That honestly sounds like a great first season of a long-running show. A little much to use for just one movie as a jumping-off point for an entire series but you could probably cover it in like a first season. Might be pushing it to squeeze the entire season, but you would be rushing a lot of it to do you like a two or three part series opener.
