  • Very often climate control systems are not fully explained to owners. Volvo considers climate control and air filtration a part of making life safer and better. The cars have amazing systems like cleanzone, and parking climate and really can make your ownership experience better, if you take advantage of them.
    This is a detailed guide and explanation of the climate control system in an XC40 Recharge with the Google Infotainment system but many of the features are found on most Volvos. Although, this car doesn't have advanced air cleaner, the end also explains what that is and how it can make your air quality better.

    Thanks for your very informative videos. Just started watching and will continue watching. I picked up my 23 C40 Ultimate on 9/2. Instant love for the car. Sales staff’s instructions were okay, but there is so much to digest, that they could only get us the basics. Unfortunately it has been sitting in the service bay after a weird electrical issue (at this point not a dangerous one) came up the next day. Volvo even had them sacrifice another just delivered C40 Ultimate for parts. Nothing they throw at it seems to fix the issue. I am not complaining, they gave me a really nice loaner to drive, just tired of buying gas for it. Please keep the awesome videos coming. Do any of your videos go into detail on how the battery conditioning works? I would really like to understand how to make sure my battery is the correct temperature for charging and driving for that matter.

      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick thanks for the reply. C40 looks great, I hope you get your car back soon. Preconditioning makes a big difference. Regardless of temperature when you activate it, it will set around 30 mins. It is therefore your judgement about how long before to activate and it aims to bring cabin to around 20 degrees Celsius. Please link below and there is a graph which illustrates how much temperature affects range, eye opener. I also recommend using range assistant below 50% and brake energy regeneration. Excellent topic for future video. www.volvocars.com/lb/support/manuals/xc40-recharge-pure-electric/2022w22/starting-and-driving/recommendations-for-driving/range

    It is good to know about the Auto button and that it can be set! We had a 2012 S60 that had an actual button that started the Auto feature, but it was simply an on/off function. Its nice that you can set the initial fan speed now.

    Thanks so much great video. Quick question I just got the 2023 xc60 ultimate I have been using ac on auto but with recirculating I noticed you said to only use when not on auto air why is that? Thanks again!

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michelle thanks for the question. When you are in auto mode the system regulates air conditioner and also the recirculate valve. This allows fresh air in periodically and prevents the glass from fogging. But it also keeps it closed most of the time to reduce power on AC. When you are in manual it doesn't modulate the valve so you manually switch it on or off as needed. Secondly the cleanzon system also requires the recirculate to be open to be active.

      Fiddling with those at high speed can legitimately be a distraction. However this cars does really well on voice control. You can keep both hand on the wheel, eyes on the road and just tell it what you want.
      I also always switch on pilot assist every time there is a distraction including phone calls. Between these two things I can’t say I found it limiting. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hi, great videos. Is there a way to set the time of when the car charges when it's plugged into a home charger? In Australia we have off peak electricity rates so charging at night is the most economical way to charge.

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you go to settings and charging, there is a timer button there on the XC40. In case you have a home charger then it is very likely you have an option to set times. I have an Enel Juice box and it comes with an app where you can program a whole weeks timings. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Jebbie, thanks for the informative videos!! Quick question, I have XC90 PHEV MY23, can we use the 3rd row vents to blow out warm air or they can only be used for cool air ?

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nishant congratulations on your XC90. Very nice car especially as a PHEV.
      The climate in the last row is connected to that side of rear zone climate. The car has 4 zones.
      You might want to check the temperature of the blower on the second row to see if it the same. If that also is not giving you heat then you may have a problem with that auxiliary heater.
      Your car needs an auxiliary heater so confirm that is switched on. This is what gives you heat when in EV mode. Open climate control click on the three dots in top right and select additional heater on.
      If none of that helps then get that unit checked as it might be that part.

    Nice video. One more thing - if you change fan speed while in auto, It stays in auto, but doesn't regulate the speed. So I guess you will have to push auto again to make it fully auto again ?

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is an excellent point. If you tap and hold auto then it will set 72 degrees Fahrenheit and fan speed at 3. However it is possible to still have some manual control on both temperature and fan speed without switching off auto settings. It only switches auto off when max blower is set such as defrost.
      If it needs to make changes to maintain the set temperature then it will still do this as needed such when it regulates for perceived temperature.
      Thanks for your comment and hope you are having a great holiday season.

    Can you expand on the issue I discovered with my XC60 2023 Recharge of not heating the car in Pure mode without the Additional Heater switched on. Apparently there are dangers involved with this setting when fueling and its unfiltered exhaust.

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. An ICE engine mainly converts chemical energy to heat and a small portion is converted to kinetic energy. It is therefore excellent at heating a cabin.
      An electric motor is much more effective and most of the chemical energy is converted to kinetic and not heat. Therefore the heating system is not as good. The additional heater is therefore necessary to heat the cabin.
      The XC40 recharge has a heat pump but the PHEVs use an additional heater for that and parking heat. As someone who drives both cars the PHEV just doesn’t have the ability to heat quick that either an ICE engine or heat pump can do. I usually run my gas engine first thing for a few minutes for a quick heat of the cabin and to warm up engine for any future use. I then switch to EV and use the heating system to maintain that heat.
      You are correct the book also does advise about refueling with heating running. The intake is low and as you mentioned both filtered.
      Hope that helps thanks.

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John thanks for watching. The only thing I could suggest is to use manual mode instead of auto, make sure the AC is off and set the blowers speed higher. If it is still too warm then your only option would be to put AC on or open window or sunroof a little. Outside of that I am not aware of any other settings.

    I have a 2023 XC 60 recharge. Does the car have heating with you are driving in Pure mode? It just turned cold in FL. First time using the system, and the car di not heat the interior. Help!

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary, sorry to hear about the problem with heat. Your car has a parking heater and auxiliary heater which both run off the high voltage system but it is not as effective at heating as a gas engine which bleeds heat from the hot engine.
      I would definitely try first preconditioning your car to see if that helps start the process, we always do this when plugged in. if while driving in pure your heater is able to maintain the temperature. If it is still not working then I would suggest speaking to service.
      On my wife's S60 Recharge we usually start off preconditioning early and then immediately hit the charge button to get the gas engine going. We then run it for a short while, as it really heats the car quickly, and also warms up the engine at low rpm. This way if the engine comes on later it already has had a chance to warm up. We then switch back to hybrid and keep it this way. The reason we choose hybrid is that these are one of those situations where we accept a little gas usage while staying pure in less cold conditions.
      Recently some cars I know have been affected and required a new part to be installed. I am sure you are already aware if this if you have been on any Volvo discussion forum. In case you are still noticing no heat while preconditioning and in pure, call service to help with this.
      I'm sure it is a little frustrating and I hope this helps. I wish you and your family a great holiday season.

    • @garymazeffa
      @garymazeffa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JebRevsUp So, if I get this correct. In pure mode, there is an auxiliary heater. I wonder if this was turned on. It's turned on now. So, it should both preheat and provide heating during the drive. Please let me know if I'm wrong; it must be electric grids like an electric heater at home. Correct? If you're in Hybrid mode, will it turn on the engine if needed to supplement the heat? Or do you have to go into power mode? Heck, I live in Florida, so I'm not real concern. Up north, if you have to go through what you just spoke to ...a deal breaker. If you need heat, it should be straightforward, not like you are in the engine room of the Titanic. Wow!

    • @JebRevsUp
      @JebRevsUp  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary, I am not a technical guy, so I am definitely not able to tell you how the heaters work. However, yes the auxiliary heat is meant to heat the cabin when you are running only in electric. Our manuals describe each of those two as a 'sub-function of the heater.' I am therefore not sure if it the same heater at different levels or two separate ones etc...
      The system doesn't automatically kick the engine in because of requiring more heat. I am a full EV guy and the XC40 is a car that does really well especially with the heat pump option in mine too. We just got the PHEV a month ago so am also learning quite a bit as a fairly new PHEV owner.
      Thanks for a really great contribution.
