I would strongly advise to look inside the cam chest to check on the cam plate, shoes, bearings and measure the runout on the pinion shaft. That could become a big exercise if not cutting the pushrods, you need to remove the tank and get rid of the rocker covers to remove the pushrods, remembering to be on the TDC when working on each cylinder. Another important thing is to check or replace the front and rear engine mounts, they cause dyna wobble. I would also check on the petcock if still OEM and replace it for normal flow. Remove the carb and disassemble it, clean it thoroughly and get new gaskets. Oil change etc. is just cosmetics. Riding FXDX 99, Good luck from Germany
Thanks! Yes we will definitely be giving this bike a good inspection while redoing everything. A fluid change is a must, bought all new gaskets too, even with only 7k miles the bike is still 17 years old, can’t be too carful 😬
I have a 2002 88" that I'm restoring after bying last year. I'm so jealous of the fact that every bike I see in the US is near immaculate, all that sunshine. Over here in the UK the weather is far from kind to Harley's. First time I took off the exhaust the header bolts snapped in the head lol oh the joys. Good luck n have fun doing the work yeself buddy, infinately more rewarding.
