The older twin cams require a bolt on the primary side that requires the primary cover to come off to remove the starter. Might have changed when they went to the 6 speed transmission setup. I’ve had two 01 and an 04 big twin, all 3 five speed, and all of them required the primary cover to come off to get to the jack shaft.
Cam its good to see the younger generation wrenching on their bikes, good job,my only advice if I see it correctly is whenever, you are putting a battery in is never connect the negative cable until the positive is connected, and the opposite, when removing it,remove the negative cable first, other than that, good job, keep up the wrenching it makes riding way more enjoyable when you fix your bike, and it saves you a bunch of money
Might depend on the year of the Dyna on whether you have to take the primary cover off. I forgot what year my buddies is, but you can't pull it without taking the bolt to the jackshaft off first.

Interesting, I’ll remember that for next time
Older dynas you got to take primary off - I know I had to on my 2003 Dyna. New model dynas you dont
now you gotta start building the insides that’s where the real fun begins!
