While I appreciate the amazing features, I believe the monthly/yearly fee could be more competitive, especially considering $20 a month for multi users. The subscription model for Nextbase is unfortunately a necessity to access its core features. While the free tier (solo) offers a glimpse of what's possible, it's severely limited. To truly utilize the full potential of this dashcam, a subscription is required. This makes it a significant investment, especially considering the steep pricing. Unfortunately, I had to return the dashcam. While the product concept was intriguing, the high subscription cost outweighed the benefits it offered.
Fair enough, the Nextbase iQ won't suit everyone's needs but there are plenty of other options out there. Check out the Nextbase Piqo: th-cam.com/video/SKOAHH-0iEQ/w-d-xo.html which is a stripped down version without the requirement of a subscription :)
I just purchased this on black friday, along with a 10% code they gave. I got the 4k with the aditonal rear camera for $755CAD (after tax)! A stellar price considering the regular price for the 4k one alone is over $1,000!!!!
@@LensOfJames A very good discount, but I still haven't been able to use it. Iv been back and fourth with support on emails. My device refuses to connect to the internet and prevents setup. It's stuck in on-boarding mode. We tried manual firmware updates but it won't even take it. Starting to think I got a bad LTE module like the other fella I found online with the same issue. Hopefully something gets resolved soon! I want to try it out
Yes it will still record, you just don't have access to all the features. More info can be found here: nextbase.co.uk/smart-dash-cams/iq-smart-dash-cam/
Good review, finally got my replacement after fighting with customer service on amazon AND direct, both told me to contact one other lol. Mine stopped working only after 3 months, did some researching and could find 3 others that had that happen too, only who I know about and found online, so who knows how reliable this actually is, def dont look forward to testing it in the heat after it randomly died in the spring (yes, it took me 2 months of back and forth to get a warranty replacement). If it wasnt so expensive, I would have just taken the L, but its 4 months worth of filling my car up with gas, so you know I at least wanted a 2nd try with this but i honestly was ready to buy a cheaper one, but from a better known brand lol
I've had the 4k version from release in November as well as the rear camera when it was released. It has come along way since and as of today Guardian Mode was released in the last update.. I can't wait for roadwatch ai.. it is expensive and the top subscription is also but it is worth it in my opinion.. I am always remote checking in on the car when left in car parks.. it took a while too get my settings right but now it's 👌 would I recommend it.. definitely..
I've fitted some of these now and I must be honest the front camera is huge, it's clever with all its features but are they all needed ? Personally the Garmin mini 3 is my favourite being really small, very reliable and a supporting app..
Ive had one since march and havent had issues what voltage should i turn my onto as you didnt tell us what voltage you have your on i think mine is on 12 or 13
@LensOfJames I've got a new phone and now can't login to app is there anyway to get the Barcode up as it's still running while I'm not active on app but can't login 😕 waiting for a reply for Nextbase customer service
Cars been left at a garage and want to turn off camera while in the garag3 or at least inside the car but can I find how to do that via app ... no !! App.should have a simple on off button or a valet mode ? Does it have this ?
I'm not sure about being able to turn it off remotely, but you can unplug it from the vehicle as it doesn't have a battery. If it is left on, it's a good way to see if they're doing the work 😉
Would you recommend this product or wait till more releases come to get rid of the bugs? I was also concerned the actual dash cam would be a target to break into your car and steal it?
Hi, yes I'm really happy with mine. The latest firmware update has cleared up the last of the issues for me and it works perfectly now. That's an interesting point, I don't live in a high crime area but I suppose if someone wants to steal something they will - at least you'll catch them on camera!
Hello, I have the 522GW and I’m thinking of getting the IQ now, my only issue is with the 522gw I have a stop start car so camera keeps restarting whenever the engine goes into eco mode and restarts, I’ve tried asking re constant power and was told wasn’t possible and stop/start shouldn’t be an issue. Am I correct in assuming this is a constant power feed, as in video you said it switches off when engine is switched off ? Also in emergency situations I’ve found the 522gw only does 5 seconds before incident instead of the previous 30 seconds on earlier models? What’s the accident / save incident timeframe before and after incident ?
So I've had a look at my iQ and, whilst I don't have a stop/start vehicle, what I've noticed is that if I was to stop for a while (i.e. minutes) with the engine on it goes into parking mode, which I assume it would with a start/stop car, however when I drive off the dash cam starts recording again. It's not like traditional dash cams where it's either on or off - it will detect things going on around you even if it says it's in parking mode. You'd have to ask Nextbase about the timeframe for accidents, I've looked through the manual but can't see the information. Hope that's helps
Obviously vehicle dependent, but if your car has a switched fuse for your cigarette lighter, wire it into that as your cigarette lighter doesn’t turn off when your car stops due to stop start
When you showed the iq vid vs the 622gw i thought the vid on the 622gw was better? I can see it obscuring alot of people's windscreen's due to its size!! I agree it has some cool feature's but im still not 100% sold on it 🤷♂️
I don't know why they've done this, one to ask Nextbase about! My 622GW used a USB or 12v port so it's nice to have OBD option to free up a port, and you really don't see the cable or plug when it's in use as the majority of it is hidden.
It’s too big for my windshield. The rear cam is questionable at most times. Subscrtion is stupid, but you’re basically paying for 4g service and is nice to have. If it wasn’t so big, I’d keep it, but it’s on eBay
That's fair enough, it is a bit bigger than other dash cams. I've heard that they've fixed the rear cam issues in the latest firmware update - mine didn't always connect but is working perfectly now.
If I were driving through a scenic area and I ask it to start recording. Does it record continuously until the card fills up or I tell it to stop? I have a road angel but the recordings are in a measly 3 minute segments. I need another unit that can record longer segments.
No, it films in 30 second segments so that when the memory card is full it can start overwriting the oldest footage. Recording in short segments is standard practise for all the dash cams I've come across. You might be best mounting a GoPro/camera/phone to your windscreen - the video will be better quality too, as dash cams compress footage to get smaller file sizes.
£449 for 4k and £149 for rear cam, so £598 for the cam. Know this is optional, but £70 or £100 per year subscription. So if you keep it for 4 years, and want all the bells and whistles, it's £1000 for a dash cam !!!!
Yeah it's a lot of money, but it is a top-level dash cam and there are plenty of others like the Nextbase 622GW which don't break the bank but still have great quality and features :)

Does the parking recording still works if I do not pay for the subscription? like a normal dashcam?
Yes it will still record, you just don't have access to all the features. More info can be found here: nextbase.co.uk/smart-dash-cams/iq-smart-dash-cam/
Got this for my motorhome despite all the negative feedback. Working flawlessly so far.

Does this interfere with DAB radios like a lot of other dash cams do?
The camera should be alot cheaper if I have to pay a 70quid subscription for the 4g live view features....

ok daft question but we have a people keying cars in our street so will the iQ continuously record ? cheers
No it doesn't record continuously, but the smart sense parking feature will detect motion nearby and start recording

I want to get this dashcam , but is it only available to buy through the next base site ? Will I be able to buy this at a shop instead ?
You can buy it from shops too - here in the UK it's available from Halfords and Argos amongst others, not sure about other countries though.
Does the next base iq have the facility of a 2 way conversation when nor in the car
No it doesn't, you can't speak to people in the car through the dash cam
@@LensOfJames
So can I hear what they inside the car when the owner is not in the car but they can't reply
No, there isn't any two way communication with the dash cam
When will you do a review of Nextbase new Piqo?
Very soon...
Review of the Nextbase Piqo just up! 📽️ th-cam.com/video/Lv--XPrZoGk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZadzfFZ525iaSJku
It’s a shame this doesn’t have a screen to give you option to view it either on the app or through the screen .
64gb is how many hours of driving ?
64gb in 2k resolution is around 120 hours of footage
@@LensOfJames I would get a bigger sd card once I get this dashcam
It's a good idea, I put a 256gb memory card in, no problems 👌

Hi looking at you other videos of suction cup mount for 622 dashcam can you send me a link for this as can't find the info on your short video

Assuming they don't cover their face
Of course, there's a number of scenarios that all the tech in the world won't help with, but it's a good start!
