I think it's hilarious that they lower Naya's by a minor third just so she can do an extra "high" embellishment a major third higher, effectively placing her one half step above the original high note 😂😂😂 In character, that's hilarious - outdoing Rachel by 1 half step is the funniest thing hahaha
Naya’s note is still easier than Lea’s as changing the note’s key is usually something that people do when are unable to hold a note for too long and Naya’s voice was never strong like that. I am almost sure that’s why she changed the note as she never held any long note during the whole show.

@@islandeatssand684 eStudio recording doesn't do miracles, if she can't hold or hit a note they can use autotune and correct some things but not if what they artist can't even try. Naya had a beautiful tone and was indeed very talented but she wasn't the "Broadway belter " kinda singer and thats fine. I don't think she wanted to be on Broadway and they wouldn't cast another "Lea Michele" on the show. The point was that they were all different. The 3 best singers were def Lea, Amber and Naya but they had totally different voices .

Hitting the note isn't the deciding factor for me, the phrasing running up to the note is. Lillias White's dynamics and musicality were a cut above the rest.

It’s a really difficult song, but I like Lillias White’s version best. All of the others seem to be saying, “I’m gonna out-Barbra, Barbra.” If you want to make a statement with this song, sing it with your own style, don’t copy the uncopyable Streisand.

They all did well, but no one can sing as effortlessly as Barbara. Look at the strain on their faces on those last notes compared to hers. She is so relaxed and doesn't take a breath in the middle of Par-ade like some of them.

Well, it's a B4 which isn't a hard note for most professional singers. The key is having proper placement and support for the necessary breath control to sustain the note and give it resonance.

It's so effortless for Streisand to sing this song. Some other singers look like they are about to die.
On a side note, as a Filipino, it's a very tiny detail, but I'm relieved to see a video using Jake Zyrus' real name instead of his dead name. Most people in our home country, including members of his own family refuse to acknowledge his gender identity despite him being relatively open about his struggles with dysphoria. As a queer person myself, it was disheartening to see people like me aren't welcome here no matter how useful or talented we were. I could only imagine how much worse it was for him. His voice dropped when he started taking t and everyone around me kept saying he wasted and threw away his talent. None of them ever realized his mental wellbeing and personal happiness is more important than being able to listen to him singing with a feminine voice ever was and will be.

Whenever I watch Jakes performances online, there will ALWAYS be people in the comments being so absolutely transphobic and ignorant for absolutely no good reason at all as if Jake isn’t just a human being as well. In early 2000s, I saw Barbra in concert and nothing that evening sent shivers down my spike like hearing her sing this live and hold that note. I didn't expect it at all and the audience was sent into a wild frenzy by it. There was no question or doubt that on this song, she is the goat.

some are truly brilliant, but a lot of them could work on their dynamics, I think the hard part about this song is to belt so many notes in this range without making it shouty.

Well, you have to mean it when you sing nobody’s gonna rain on your parade. Some of them just tried to economize air outflow or too technical. They didn’t inject the conviction behind the lyrics.
You also have to look at the legato style where the singer sings the lines continuously and takes her breath appropriately. You don’t sing paaaa (pause to take a breath) raaadde

I just have to say it - there's no one like Barbara. Like Sinatra did, she has perfected her breath control so it seems effortless to hit that note, or any others. Even watching her sing, she has an ease and comfort that never seems strained - watch her face. I have adored her since I first heard my parent's "Funny Girl" album as a kid.So many of the singers on this post were wonderful - that young girl was amazing- but some looked like they were in pain! lol I'm really excited for Lea Michele, can't think of anyone else who can make it her own and that is the whole point.

All of the people are fantastic singers. It takes so much strength, control, confidence, skill and endurance to sing and hold that belt. You can feel how people are really pushing out that last note, even seasoned veterans. It’s HARD. The lung capacity and belting skills are just ridiculous. The song was made for Barbara and she has such a unique voice and skill set. It’s hard to sing a song made for someone else who is so incredibly unique. She just looked so comfortable and it came to her effortlessly.
I think what makes Lillias such a standout for so many is the fact that she took the song and adapted it confidently to fit her voice and strengths. She had the skills and she used them to her utmost potential which made her version so great:)

Eden’s and Lillias’ were to extra for me. I feel like with this song, going that much extra seems try-hard ish to me. Of course they have great voices, but I didn’t like the delivery at all.
People like Idina and Shoshana were amazing, but I personally don’t like the version where they go “noBOdy is GONna RAin ON mY pARadE” (here they flip flop between two notes for those few words. It just annoys me.
Jake and Lea kept it simple and perfect, and they both have extremely amazing voices. Naya’s was a little different but it wasn’t too extra - it was just right. And of course Barbra is legendary. Her performances just see, easy, which is why she stands out.

It's the fact that when Barbara sings it, it sounds like she doesn't even freakin breathe yet she continues to sing that note effortlessly. You think "take a breath, where does she stop to breathe?" But there's no sign that she actually does. It just comes out beautifully and impossible to me. I feel Lillia White is the only one who truly did it in a way where it wasn't a copy, or doing too much, because everyone who copied just didn't do it like Barbara did it, and the ones who did something differently to make their version better, came off as unsatisfying and too much in an unpleasant way.

The high note was originally a C5 if you listen to the original Broadway cast album with Barbra before the movie version - the entire song was up a half step in the key of Bb instead of A!

Barbara's voice is strong even until now. Watching her old clips was a revelation and an answer as to why the greatest singers like mariah, Celine etc. held her in high regards. Her vibrato was describe like a Sonar, vibrating strong to soft to strong and soft and can go on and on and on. She was the BELTER.
