This is a nice tips, but how do you prevent the vsbr joint from being broken ? (This is what I hate about HGUC F91, I wish it had stronger/thicker vsbr joints
Fun Fact about F91. Initially F91's goal was to set a new precedence for smaller Gundams to ultimately cut down on plastic costs for the model kits. However manufacturer didn't foresee that this would mean new tools/molds and less ability to reuse old molds on the new smaller proportions. That would ultimately prove to be more expensive then what they would end up saving on plastic. I do love the lore justification for this. As beam technology advanced in the years after the One Year War, basically a beam shot was going to destroy a mobile suit if it hit, regardless of the armor the suit was wearing. As such it became more tactically sound to make smaller, faster mobile suits to not get hit.
That's a solid goal! I remember they had all the MGs of the main Gundam suits lined up by release date in The Gundam Base. There's something so cool about being able to se all of the hero gundams standing beside each other.
I would recommend the master grade F91 over this, it's an amazing kit with tons of colour accuracy and mechanical detail. Also roughly the size of a high grade
The handle on the beam rifle is movable it’s just that is molded into the rest of the rifle like any other part of the runner. As soon as you cut it it’ll be moveable
I have this little kit on my collection as well. For a gunpla that is cheap, while it may be small but with its weapons loadout, F91 still stands out among the 1/144 scale models. I highly recommend it as well.
Painting this kit was extremely hard due to the size, but totally worth it. One of my favorites Also, VSBR stickers are still holding after three years
For anyone wondering, because he didn't show it off, yes, it can hold the VSBRs in hand when they're deployed. Also, the stickers for the VSBRs ain't bad. They look fine when on.
I love these old gunpla reviews because it shows how old kits compare to modern standards. Still waiting on the rg freedom, hgce strike freedom, hg 00 raiser and hg 00 qant
I have this kit on my shelf i loved it the build was fun and it looks amazing the only problem I had with it was the wing things snapped off one of the hinges that allow you to swing it around and make the f91 use it i glued it and it works still
My 2 favorite kits, F91 and Mudrock. Don’t have the HG F91 yet, but have the MG 2.0 of it. My ideal custom is mixing the 2, currently waiting on stuff to come in.
2 guns on the head 2 bigger guns on the chest 2 beam saber 2 beam shield 2 vsbr and an unusual face vent that became his signature attacks, the afterimages attack. for a small machine, it surely packed with lots of armament
This is an awesome little kit. Painted in some of the extra yellow details with a gundam marker and it really looked nice with that amount of detail in such a small size. Since I've heard the VSBR hinges are easy to break i filed the pegs on both sides so they move more smoothly and won't break as easily (just like the GEP zeta shoulders). I love how they've shrunken down the engineering in this kit - the pair of polycaps in the shoulders is so simple but effective and the way the VSBRs swivel from the back to under the arms is really cool

If you take apart the beam riffle you can cut out the secondary handle and the white part will hold it in, so technically it works with a little bit of work
My first time getting this kit was a clear version I picked up at a convention i absolutely love, I loved it so much i grabbed a second normal copy to do an after image display of him. however as I was warned the arms that hold the back guns are very very thin and fragile so be careful when rotating them around to the front. other than the structural integrity of those parts its a great amazing tiny little kit and well worth it, especially if you get a couple of them for after images.
I have the Harrison Maddin version of the HGUC F91 and yeah its an awesome little kit. It naturally comes with a much larger sticker sheet than the original F91 due to the amount of yellow stripes all over it, but painting it was the way to go.
Fun tip. The rifle handle can become movable if you cut it. Yeah the f91 was part of an initiative for all gundam project where it featured ground breaking features at that time, those features still used today for better or worst.
So I noticed you said that the second handle on the beam rifle can't be moved side to side, but it can. You just need to cut it out. I know it dosen't say so in the instructions but the white cover will hold it in place.
I built this kit a couple of months ago and I love it! It's a small boy for sure, it looks so tiny next to my Unicorn Gundam and Zeta Gundam but it's very well made.
One of your F91's thighs may be inverted, specifically the F91's right thigh. there's a small smooth nub near the knee section on the thigh armor that's meant to face outwards to the side. Can't fault anyone for overlooking this though, it's hard to see this detail in the first place.
Say Mecha, if you have a HGAC Wing Gundam or Wing Zero, maybe check to see if their saber effects would fit better. They're the same shade of green as F91s so they should look right at home.

I had a 30 year old one of these on my desk at work. It was older than some of my coworkers. Back when it came out it was a little bit tough to accept the idea of a beam shield. I wouldn’t put too much into the size. Bandai got a creative with scale. The next series was even worse. Nice kit you got there.
Huh I just finished this kit like yesterday. It's old but the VSBRs work surprisingly well. I expected them to be way more finicky but it moves into place, extends and deploys the handle really nicely.
Really accurate, since the F91 Gundam as designed to be smaller than it's other gundam and machine counterparts at it's time to increase energy efficiency and overall combat abilities. Glad that Bandai actually put that into it's gunpla lines!
too bad the HGUC and MG didn't have the beam blade for the beam shield generator.... the F91 not just pull that off in games but also in the movie as well

The recessed slots for the stickers is just *mwah* beautiful, I wasn't a fan of the rub-on decals for the newer MG. Hey, Mecha. If you still like IBO kits, I suggest you pick up the Thrones trio and the Arche Gundam. They are basically the gundam frames of Gundam 00, and since the mechanical designer is the same as the Barbatos's and a few other IBO gundams, it feels like they were ahead of their time.
