I recently bought a talbot express and wanted to fit electric power steering but the cost was over £500. Then i found your video, i have followed your video and now have electric power steering and i love it, i got a clio 2008 power steering motor for £40 and the switch control for £37, and with the wires its all in at just under £90 . Thanks for a great video. 😊
That's cheaper than us lol. Really glad you found the video useful and informative and that you managed to fit it yourself. It's what the video is all about! Thanks for the comment, it's much appreciated. Helen and Karl.
Hi, I am restoring a 1989 Talbot Express and really need to fit poqwer steering. Is there a particular model of Clio that I should look for or just any from 2008 ?. Would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
Didn't know this was even possible. Karls knowledge and practical experience is amazing. He explains it all so thoroughly. Must have been an instructor in his past life surely. 👏🙌👍
Thanks John. I just watched it and it went straight over my head lol. But if you know anything about cars etc, it's going to help many people with luck.
Thanks so much for this video! I was going to use a unit from a corsa B, but they are now very hard to find, I got one from a clio 2013 for £38 and the interface from ebay, it works perfectly !
Mr B does it again, very nice job and brilliantly explained, this series has been fantastic to watch, you guys take care and have a great weekend 🙏🚌👊👍🥰
Great video and really well explained. I've seen a few different videos on this subject but I can say yours is better, it even looks nice and neat and is hidden nicely. 😊
Hi guys hope everything is as good as it can be given the circumstances. What Karl doesn't know isn't worth knowing, how he performed that latest upgrade was amazing , my husband Martin said if he had attempted anything like that , there would have been more parts left over than what he started with 😅😅 , it's going to be a fantastic van 👍
Thanks so much Linda. He will be getting a big head when he sees your comment! He knows his stuff when it comes to mechanics. He'd never done it before so it was trial and error, but I knew he'd get it done cos he's got that engineering brain.
You are terrific at problem solving Karl and great at mechanical related explanations. Have you ever thought about lecturing/tutoring work at your local mechanic training college? They would snap you up pronto with your knowledge and ability to impart it to the next generation of mechanics. Hope you didn't dirty the new campervan carpet 😄. Hope Nanook is doing OK 🥰
Ha ha, and there's me always saying to him "don't become a teacher!"😆 He was very careful and definitely wouldn't have mucked up the carpet when it was him that fitted it.😁
There's nothing stopping it from pulling up, but it's designed to go up and down. It won't come out because of how it's designed but it can move 1-2 inches.
I moved the relay bracket to the right and cable tied it up out of the way. Good luck. Helens is working like a dream. Let us know how you get on and if you need any advice, let us know. Karl.
Great stuff. Did it work OK? We've found it to be brilliant. It's actually used mainly on the lowest sensitivity, but the highest is great for parking or tricky situations.
My car runs on 10" wide racing slicks with +2" offset wheels with +5degrees caster and it makes parking a dream. Not rack&pinion, so not the best feel. Suzuki wagonr unit.@@roaminginraymond
Hi Ive just bought an old Talbot my dream but finding it difficult to manoeuvre. Silly me didnt test drive properly. Do you put power steering in for customers.
No, sorry, he's retired now and is having surgery on his hands soon too. There's a place in Stratford upon Avon that does it but it's around £600 I think. Someone near London does it for around £500. If you join the Talbot site on Facebook you can get different info on there.
Great job 👍 Only concern I have did you put a slip joint in the bottom shaft. If you haven't it needs one because the UJs need movement when they turn to allow a little change in length in the shaft as they operate (unless UJs are perfectly straight). May cause something to break with use.
Unfortunately arthritis is Karl's problem too which is why he retired and is awaiting surgery on his hands. He said he thinks it could be fitted to a Renault. Someone in Stratford upon Avon does it to Talbots but they charge £600. Also someone by London, they charge £450 and advertise on Gumtree.
@@roaminginraymond Thank You, i think the guy in Stratford upon Avon has stopped doing them, just listening to you both on you tube, you have to be Midlands based, im in Shropshire 👌

renault clio?
Can't see my reply. Renault Clio mk3.
Is there no model specific for fiat Ducato 1990?
@mightynomak4205 don't think so. As far as I know it would be the same.
@@roaminginraymond I like what you did although it seems complicated to adjust the shaft. Is there no easier way?

@markwatson4043 it just has to be a Clio mark 3.
Didn't know this was even possible. Karls knowledge and practical experience is amazing. He explains it all so thoroughly. Must have been an instructor in his past life surely. 👏🙌👍
They charge £600 to get it done which is a lot of money on an old van. I knew Karl would work it out with his engineering brain.😁
Are there no limits to your talents Mr B. That was an amazing vlog, well done 😊
Thanks Carmel. You're very kind.
A very informative video, which I suspect will get found and viewed by a huge amount of people in the Talbot camper scene.

Very clever and well explained even I understood 😂
Lol, thanks very much.
Nice job Karl. I would not be without power steering, I would ot be able to drive these days without it.
Gotta agree. He said I didn't need it but soon changed his tune when we went somewhere in it. It's great now.

@Roaming in Raymond Motorhome Adventures Flipping incredible I'd say.
Don't give him a big head.

Blimey that’s very involved. If it was me I would buy Helen some gym equipment.
Ha ha Richard, even Karl moaned about driving it after saying it didn't need doing. It's great now.
Well, thanks for making me feel stupid Mr B.
I couldn't fit a new lock on our bog door 😅
Ha ha ha 😆😆
Thanks
You're welcome.
Just wondering, the shaft is pushed down onto the spline of the motor whats stopping it being pulled up with the steering wheel
There's nothing stopping it from pulling up, but it's designed to go up and down. It won't come out because of how it's designed but it can move 1-2 inches.

Cheers Karl, I got a renault clio electric power steering Columb for £25
@user-tv1vl5cf4k bargain. Cheaper than getting it done by someone, that's for sure.
I installed one in my Datsun 510 slalom car

What year was the clio please
It was a mark 3 Clio. They are around the years 2005-2008.
Well done they charge £600 to do that
We know, we rang for a kit and they only fit now so had to find out about doing it ourselves. Works a treat.
Hy mate what size wire did you use to connect motor to battery ,iv got a 50a fuse which seems a bit high lol
It's a 50amp cable and 50amp fuse, but you could get away with 42amp, but if you already have 50 then use that.
Cheers mate ,iv got an 8 gauge jump lead I'll use 👍
@user-tv1vl5cf4k that will work.👍

There is movement in the joint of approximately 3-5mm.
Ooh yes we drive without power steering its like a tank parking is the problem. 😂😂😂 liz.
I can imagine lol. Even Karl struggled without the power steering but it's amazing now he's fitted it.
would you fit one on mine if I pay you thanks carl
I don't work anymore I'm afraid. I retired three years ago. Sorry mate.
What a great job you did, very impressed, could that be done with a Renault Trafic Mk1 ? and how much would it cost ? Arthritis is my problem 😌
