I admit that my camera choices are not smart choices but all are "heart choices". But I can live with it..

I bought a Nikon FM2 T with a f1.4 50mm in the summer and it kind of is my holy grail camera at the moment.
its the best viewfinder i've used, light meter works and is easy to use, it shoots up to 4000th of a second all while being fully mechanical.
i wanted something more reliable after my Canon AE-1 died and had replaced it with random cameras.
I love this camera, and i hope it lasts a while.

I love this since this is very sound advice but I took a completely different route.
My first camera other than my phone was an Ikonta 6x6 folder from '49. My camera collector granpa gave it to me as a starting camera and honestly it was so much fun since I have about equal interest in photography but also camera mechanics. I know have bit of a collection going on (mostly weird stuff that I like, for example some 127 TLRs), aquired my personal dream camera (RB67) but I've never owned a single electronic camera. Just some selenium cell auto exposures. Autofocus is like dark magic to me, I sometimes feel like a caveman.

I own a Nikon F4S. Long time love came true.

Great video. I agree that sometimes the dream camera is a disappointment and others surprise to the upside. I've owned and sold many cameras over the year and the ones I have kept just feel right for me. Rollei 3.5F, Leica M5 and M3, Rollei 35 SE, Nikon F5 and FM3a.

    Very interesting discussion.
I went into film cameras because i love mechanical machines. The Plaubel Makina III R fascinated me from the moment i saw one(in a video).
I started buying cheap mechanical cameras to learn to fix them, and in the last 3 years i was able to find 2 Makina IIIR‘s, one in a miserable condition, one in a good condition.
I feel now confident fully restoring the Makina III R, having restored the one in miserable condition.
As for Photography, i have a digital Fuji X-E1, which i adapt lenses to that i cleaned, hoping to find ones i like shooting with.
I sell the lenses i don‘t like for cheap(half the price they get sold for on ebay) and sometimes make a small profit, most of the time the only profit is the things i learn while restoring..
I am hoping to get my hands on Vision 3 in 65mm, design a 65mm film back for the Makina III R, and shoot with it, because i like to make things complicated.. But also because i don‘t see a point in shooting expensive film if it is not „special“.
I want to spend more time with photography itself, but as someone with a low salary, it is just very difficult to justify shooting film.. Especially with Kodak doing all sorts of stunts to milk the hype..
As a long term solution, that would make sense for me, i would probably shoot with glas plates with my makina IIIR. I will always be able to keep it running perfectly, and i will always be able to find the chemicals for making and developing my own emulsions..
As a holy grail, i have the Makina 67, which i was actually able to find for 1000€ last year. It needs a CLA, but the glass is good and i think i can CLA it myself.
Another holy grail, probably the X-Pan, but i don‘t think i will ever be able to afford one.

If you want something tiny with a flash and a supersharp lens, go for the Ricoh GR1, v especially. I love it, and mine even has the led working (for now 🤞🏻❤️). Really, the GRs, both digital and analog, are amazing, and the best pocket cameras ever.

At the moment I think my grail camera would be a fully kitted-out Pentax 6x7/67 with a bunch of lenses. The next camera I'm thinking of looking at would be a Yashica or Minolta TLR of some sort!

After a half of a century of shooting film, my essential cameras are:
    1) Linhof 617 Technorama (for landscapes) Color Chrome and Black and White
    2) Fujica GW 690 (for walk around) color neg
    3) Canon VT Deluxe rangefinders (for every day carry)
    There's nothing like a camera 📷🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍

People don't choose to own and use a film camera in 2025 for practical or sensible reasons. It's an emotional choice.
Choose the film camera that speaks to you.

True. Although unfortunately some „hype“ cameras are now getting very expensive (and too expensive) while there are plenty of cheaper options of same (or actually higher) quality.

🔴 Leica MP is really nice. Personally been more drawn towards the older M-film cameras but the Modern Perfection is its own beast of a camera. -Tuomas

My story would be way too long to go into here. Save to say, I started in the late 70’s at high school with a Pentax K1000, and moved up through the models to the Super A before jumping ship to Canon when AF arrived. Stuck with Canon ever since now with a EOS R5. I also shoot a Hasselblad X2D when I need to slow down as well as a Leica M9. Looking for a M10P. I have most of my film grails as I started buying them 10 years ago before prices went crazy. Perhaps the only one I miss trying is the Makina but prices are beyond comfortable for me. I still have my 500CM bought in the early 80’s, a RZ67, Pentax 67II, Mamiya 6 and 7, Pentax 645NII, Mamiya 645, a slew of Nikon F bodies (FE2, FM2, F3HP, F4, F5) and Leica R and M bodies (R8, R6.2, M6, M7 and MP) and a XPan II. Mostly cameras that were either ones that I wanted when I was young but couldn’t afford, or ones that have features I was curious about. My favourite film used to be Fuji Reala and the original Acros. Even the summary is long. LOL.

RB67 😍 I’d be reasonably confident my Canon P or Canon 7 would still be going in 2040, also really confident in the Minolta SRT Super. EOS 3 probably because it was made more recently.
