It could be, depending on where she is located. A thing she, I suppose, never thought about.
I would not declare it a fact, I can be wrong, but I think it has to do with how far you are from the Ecuator. That means the angle of light from the sun.
E.g. German photoliterature talks about Sunny 8. Germany is a relativeley nordic country. I suspect the Sunny 16 has its origin in the light condition of the southern USA. Now if the dame is somewhere at a longitude between the two, Sunny 11 can be accurate for her.

@@MezeiEugen Omg i never actually knew that but it checks out!!! Im in the northeast (Connecticut) so that would make sense why i always felt like sunny 11 worked out better. Some other comments mentioned location plays a part. This is good to know for the future when i talk about it. Thanks for sharing!

      I also set my ASA/ISO to 200 if I’m shooting 400 film.

@ Those highly trained chemists, engineers and technicians at Kodak and Fuji calibrated the film and tested it, but what do they know. Joe Amateur knows better what ISO to use.

in where I live, Malaysia where the sun is shining at very direct angle, it's more like Sunny 22. while it's arguable, the concept of learning to meter by eye is extremely useful and relative in nature

At 2:17 I see a water distiller. Produced by Euronda. I bought myself one of these just last week. It is made to produce distilled in medical practices and from the manual I know how it is supposed to be used. I am curious how Emily Swift uses it, as some of the usage described by the producer will produce water that could damage your negatives.

Regarding film accidentally exposed to light ruining the images, it's the main reason that I use cameras that pulls out all the film first, and whenever an image was exposed, the camera would rewind one frame at a time. If the camera back was opened accidentally, only the unused film were ruined.

Digital sensors and slide film are both capturing positive images. They retain detail in the shadows and clip if overexposed.
Negative film retains detail in the highlights and clips the shadows.

The most important price of info to take away is that you should aim for neutral or over exposed shots on film. A lot of us are used to digital and it's ability to preserve shadow detail.

Funny thing, me coming from using film way before digital (which I still use only ocassionally) I expose digital also on the overexposure side. I should change that.

    • @LensForgotten

Yes indeed. There is some "unlearning" (and new learning) when coming from digital to analog.

I started with a Nikon FG, but if I were to advice beginner film photographers, it's to get a point-and-shoot or an AF camera. It's very important to learn the quirks of film and how different it is from digital, as quickly as possible. In this era, we are exposed to digital photography from the jump, and so we have assumptions that we must first unlearn. Get an auto camera, get used to film, and then decide later if you want to do more manual, more mechanical.
To my understanding Film vs. Digital is similar to RBG/Additive vs. CMYK/Subtractive. the two sets don't exactly align, but there are parallels. (I just can't articulate properly how I understand it, so I can't explain hahah)

The one obscure thing that made me fall in love with film: how much information there is in the highlights. If/when I post process my scans and decide to recover the highlights, it results in a more "natural" looking "HDR", somewhat closer to what the eye can see.

    • @LensForgotten

Yes, film can be like magic. It’s an incredible medium.

In regards to "If you can see the film it's blank" I once had the back of my Pentax ME Super open inexplicably 8 shots into a roll of Fomapan 200. I closed it as soon as I saw it open but It was open for a good 3 seconds. Somehow only the last 2 shots were completly gone with the rest having varying intensity of light leaks. It was under fairly dim artificial light which was rather fortunate as if it was under full daylight it'd probably be toast.

Interesting story.....It seems if you catch it quick enough you can save many of your exposures.

The main reason why people are underexposing subject if it is in the shadow is that your brain is doing dynamic equalization of light in a scene in real time so you don't see that subject is in the shadow. So people just don't notice the problem and only experience teaches you to notice the issue.

Pro tip, if you are not sure if your film has rewound in your Camara; go to a dark room without any windows like the toilet/bathroom, Turn off the lights!! And use a small dim RED LED HEADLIGHT! 🔴🔦And then open your camera! 👍😉
