So, I’ve finally got a chuck stuck. Didn’t know it was a thing. But it’s very much a thing. Can’t get it off… and I’m said. It’s halting production. Will try soaking it first. My question is does this damage how the front and back line up? Will they still be on center? Or will I have to figure out how to make the head stock and tail stock align again ? Thanks.
It’s only a matter of time for a Chuck or face plate to get stuck. The lathe should be fine and inline as long as extreme measures were not taken. It also depends on the lathe. Most lathes can be re-aligned. Hope you can get the chuck off. Cheers!
Great video Spiros and some very useful tips,especially for anyone just getting into wood turning because sooner or later a stuck chuck going to happen. In the past I have got the mother in law to glare at it ....... that always works ;) so these tips will save her from coming here to sort it out ... Many grateful thanks Bram :)

You are on the right track with the strap clamps but you should use a more industrial version. If you use one of these www.zoro.com/ch-hanson-locking-chain-clamp-20-72000/i/G4861011/ directly behind your chuck (your lathe may have a better location to clamp) Then use a wrench on the chuck flats it is much easier.
Thanks for this, got my stuck chuck off. Soaked over night with wd40. Used a piece of leadwood to support a hole punch in the shaft. Secured with duct tape and a long bar in the chuck Jaws. Came off no problem.
Thanks for the video. A great tip for getting a stuck adapter out of a chuck that is off the lathe is to attach the jaws only the legs of your lathe then use a wrench. Thanks again
Great helpful vid... just a quick tip, if you are going to grip your spindle with vice grips, try some thin copper or aluminium sheet between the teeth and the spindle... it won't compromise the grip but it will stop the damage to the spindle

At present, I'm try to apply some heat to the stuck assembly on the idea that the metal, at least on the faceplace, will expand enough to allow remove. In any case, thanks for a complete review of all the methods!

I tried the plastic washer didn't work for mine Grizzly G0698 then I ordered some washers made of brass this did the trick had to use two of them but they worked and also use them on my Delta lathe it is a 1" the Grizzly is 1 1/4" try it you may like them better

I use anti seize by John Deere. Don't know if it helps but haven't had a stuck chuck.

e-bay is where I found them look them up under copper shims in the size you won't or brass shims
put a plastic, or fiber washer behind chuck.
