Thank you for watching! And thank you, DUST, for the opportunity to share this short film on your platform! It is such an honor. I am happy to answer any questions about the film and how it was made!
This reminds me of a few other shorts I've seen. It brings up the question of "If you could go back, would you do it again?" and "If you're guilty, the worst punishment is to relive your worst moment over for eternity." True hell. Very well done.
REALITY IS NOT FAR FROM THIS, BUT FOR EVERY DISSIDENT, NOT JUST ACTUAL CRIMINALS. Or rather, this will enable the State to redefine unilaterally and cheaply what crime is. Good short.
Absolutely loved it! What would have destroyed is if the final scene saw her with some sort of sustenance drip, a colostomy/catheter so she literally had everything to keep her alive and in place for all of her days. She's gonna pee and crap herself at some point and they'll have to disconnect her from the memory feed.
Totally agreed! We actually really wanted to do something similar, but unfortunately we had limited resources and worked with what we had. Great thought!
The loop is real for people who have a conscious, have deep guilt/regret or victims of trauma. Its hard for them to escape reliving those memories, unless you can come to peace with it, suppress it(not a healthy method) or cope with the memory, it can seem like a life sentence.
Unless you have multiple regrets and have learned to accept you're definitely not perfect and live with them. In which case every new regret does not mean a lot, it just fits into a pattern you accepted long ago. And I suppose that's what most people do anyway.
This is like Black Mirror's White Christmas but without the feelings. Even the ending is a copy of that episode. Edit: it's not that I'm criticising, the execution is perfect, but it still feels like an attempt to remake Black Christmas.
Thanks for the feedback! Coincidentally, the script was written before I knew about Black Mirror, but one of my co-producers actually told me to watch it because he also thought it was similar. I drew inspiration for the visual of the final scene from the "Black Museum" episode where the wife is in the mind chamber watching her life on the huge screen.
I thought of Black Mirror too. But there's a lot of differences and additions too. Like the whole trying to convict her with stealing her thoughts and brainwashing/gaslighting thing. In Black Mirror she was already convicted from the start. It was all just the "punishment".
@@Albtraum_TDDC dumbass, in black mirror they sent John Hamm in to get the confession from HIM (not her). Then once they got the confession, they left the perp in the device as a punishment.
One of the better DUST shorts - wouldnt mind seeing more in a series of shorts. Was Cora REALLY guilty? Or was the MEMORY of the event altered just to get a conviction? Like an episode of Star Trek Voyager "Ex Post Facto" where Tom Paris is convicted or murder and is implanted with memories of the victim and forced to relive murder over and over. Later it was revealed the "memory of the murder" was faked. What if in the world of this short, a memory could be extracted, altered and reimplanted? Its already been proven implanting false memories is possible with exiting brainwashing techniques. With technology it could be done instantly.
Thank you! In our vision, yes this actually happened and she really was guilty. However, we have the idea of memory alterations if this were to be developed into a series or a feature film. Great thought!!
@@johncarlaw8633 yes, this Dystopian idea has been investigated in classics like Total Recall, The Minority Report, many other stories. Definitely an amazing short video. Hooked from start to finish. Just two what i believe are called continuity errors. One oil and water don't mix, see oil and vineger salad dressing. Two anaphylaxis results in an inability to move air in and out. The result is whats called a rocking horse motion. Not huffing and puffing. I apologize for being picky, blame on all the incredibly bad medical TV dramas.
Thank you for watching! There were a definitely a couple of details that we should have done more research on haha. Appreciate the attention to detail!
ok, but what if the person is a true psychopath and actually gets off on killing like serial killers do? Wouldn't this be the best possible ending for them?
excellent point. You hate someone so much, killing them brought you such joy, and now you get to relive that for eternity. Think if you 'loved' them to death, reliving the vinegar shot, over and over, until death.
It was really good, but it was almost to the before I thought how is this sci-if. Then the end and I was like, wow this could make a really good series.
I was suspect of the water from the start. What if the girl refused it? Also, can we get all the politicians on that seat? Make them confess everything on live TV then arrest them.
Now this is one with a unique twist. Like it, and I can see something like this being a 'thing' in our very near future. id give it a decade tops. good film, good choreography. good all around.

TH-cam offers a de-shake option, this film needs it badly. Do cameramen nowadays not have a firm stand for the camera? It is shaking all over the place, really hard to look at. I think 99% of all movies are shot this seriously annoying way nowadays. Without any reason. When will it ever stop ? ? ?
Well, not that far off into the future. There actually has been ongoing research, for years, where experiential content can be extracted from the brain, via specialized fMRI imaging system, and "played back" as a video (Prof Jack Gallant, UC Berkeley, is a good example of this). The resolution is still rough, but the content is verifiably there.
