More About "Chimera":
A small-town nobody, Felicity Fury, spends every day making the most of her alternative life in virtual reality completing simple objectives in the great city of Sunscape! One day she comes out of the game to find her partner Logan has used the last of the cartridges, which use a concentrated dose of dopamine to keep players happy and hooked on the game. She gathers what little money she has to go acquire a new cartridge but she’s been plugged in too long; not only have they been recently declared illegal unbeknownst to her but she is beginning to dissociate. In other words, her reality is glitching. What is real and what is not? As she chases down a cartridge she discovers that happiness is not a product she can easily purchase. Rather, happiness is a product of the mind.

🎬🔥😎❤️🤟
Very difficult to comment after that
Are you talking about my iPhone which I cannot let go of for two days in a row
Ha Ha!
When VR gets to that point it will be the most powerful addiction on the planet. The ability to escape their realities with full sensory immersion.
We love sci-fi because it helps jump start this critical thinking into what the future might hold. Thanks for watching and being out of this world!
Can’t wait
Not VR, it's called AR, or "augmented reality" and this is only about 5 years off. Google "TDK laser augmented reality glasses" for proof. The neurostim tech doesn't pop up until the 2030's, isn't legal until the 2040's, and won't be perfected until 2052, appxy 12 before the extinction of homosapien.
HEARD OF NURALINK?
@@Joe-xj2tb Was thinking similarly but it is not yet available.
wow, this portrays addiction so well. its like woever created it was quite familiar wit its effects
Metaverse meets fentanyl on steroids . . . remarkably well done, excellent balance between human character study under duress mapped against a commercialized, highly addictive, pseudo matrixlike commodity, and a glimpse into a plausible tech implementation. Very well acted, the entire story fits together well, without having to rely on excessive CGI props to deliver the experience.
Humanity is halfway there now, I'm late 60's and cant put phone down.
Every time i take a break i turn it on.....crazy.
I've got to stop this.
Excellent actors, this is at the top of all shorts I've seen.
This movie is up there with the best.
😊
Thank you for your kind words!
-a fellow phone addict
Ah, but did you watch it on your phone??
Yikes put the phone down lol.
Wow.. Just wow.. It reminds me of my addictions. Been clean now going on 10yrs free of opioids and cocaine/crack, alcohol. Anything I could get my hands on really. Im so grateful I lived through it. So I know that if this tech ever popped up and I tried it.. I'd be a goner!! So that's a hard NO THANKYOU from me!! So scarey.. Great movie. Gave me a good reminder as to why I got clean. 💜🙂
This was both really good and really sad. It shows what addiction can be like without using modern addictions. I can identify being an alcoholic.
This. The story is about addiction, not tech.
@@johnraffenspergerYea but anything can be addictive if you let it be. Just like people are already addicted to doom scrolling on phones which is tech. This is showing how addiction isn’t just drugs it can literally be anything you use to escape. People even get addicted to working out because of how it makes them feel so good. Everything needs to be used in moderation especially if you have an addictive personality.
@@iTzILLUSIONSNowhere near the same. People love to toss the word addiction around for every little thing - until you've got a physical chemical dependency you have no idea how bad it gets.
This dystopian future is already in play and this film is a stark warning of this tsunami of unregulated technology.
I love the introduction of the cow, that's a good symbolism for corporate livestock.
So close to reality! We are headed as a species in this direction. Great short film, very convincing, good acting and scene setting. Excellent work.
It reminded me of that masterpiece Strange Days. Who knows if one day not so far away we will experience this.
Anyone who’s had an addiction will find this all too plausible.
That was scary in several lowkey ways, an awesome short with good acting and production values🙌🏾
I love the emotional charge behind this and how it just keeps growing
So real,especially the immense withdrawal!😮
Strong acting from everybody and great story. I really liked this one…
We had pretty good direction :)
The actors put everything they had into this one. Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!
From the look of things and event possibilities , Our future is in jeopardy
This is one of the best things I've seen on DUST. Solid writing, directing, and acting.
Cas's acting was amazing!!😮😊❤❤❤
This is an all too accurate description about the social media addiction too many people suffer of. I've been addicted to quite a lot of stuff, but I've been lucky enough to stay away from social media. I'm clean now, and I hope people will get weaned of off the "nah not so destructive" social media. Great piece of work to the entire crew.
Boooph. You missed the train. If you think social media is addictive, please stay away from opioids.
The main reason why it’s addictive for people is the same concept of gambling. “What if in the next roll I win something” becomes “what if I scroll one more time and I see something I’m glad I didn’t miss?” Also in general you feel like you’ll miss out on a lot of stuff if you don’t go on for even a short time (the internet moves fast). I used to think like this until I quit using most platforms. I don’t miss any of it and I no longer care about whatever is going on or what people are saying. If it’s pertinent enough, I hear about it from my friends anyway. I’ve long since deleted Instagram and Snapchat, never used Twitter/X or TikTok, and I really only go on TH-cam once in a while and Reddit when researching something anymore. I’m so much more peaceful and happy than before, social media can really keep you wound up.
@gerard, You're on social media on TH-cam.
Very surprising how good the acting was.
Acting? This was a documentary.
THE ACTING WAS SHIT
The performances truly are out of this world! We were completely immersed when watching this short. Thanks so much for watching!
I agree. This was excellent acting. I found her performance life-like.
@@watchdust Thanks so much for posting it so we could watch it. 👍 Great little flick! Great acting by all the actors!!
This film totally sucked me in. Something so terrifyingly addictive and mind altering set in the present with the effects brilliantly performed by the cast. Also loved the sound design. All round a great piece of filmmaking.
Great story to understand addiction. Why a great fantasy is preferable (to some) to a bad reality. Excellent acting and story! Flawless.
Well said, thank you! ❤
A dust I like; a rarity.
Thanks for watching. We agree, this is a good one :). We're glad you liked it, Earthling.
I don't think perpetually redecorating my virtual house would make me smile much
are you a robot too?
It would also seem that the carteridges the device requires to run pump drugs into your arms so it's not just VR house decorating. It's actually VR house decorating with a chemical cocktail that makes everything feel good and fun.
Lol
I think it was intentionally not actually a good game. it was really about the drugs it pumped into your system. There's also at least one point you can tell on her face that she's desperately trying to pretend she is doing in the game is enjoyable.
The opening scene is how I feel adding things to my eBay watchlist that both me and the algorithm know I'll never buy
This was good. I would watch a full length.
the production quality and cinematography is superb.
caught myself saying “oh i feel you sis..” several times when she ends up with no fix, this mix of frustration and apathy is portrayed in a very believable and relatable manner.
great work!
Watched it twice !
I'm liking this twice!
Gotta watch those hedonistic traits, they will get you into trouble.
It isn't just parallels between VR and addiction. Addiction has been rampant since the late '60s , early '70s. Most of us managed to escape into adulthood. Some of us might even wish for a short visit, for old time's sake, but then you remember the hell of escape.
Mind those VR headsets of the future. Make sure that they don't come with any spare arm piercing bracelets... and dope cartridges. Lol
Great short. Amazing actress.
Hi 👋🏻 thank you :) I really appreciate it
Extremely gritty and human, which are odd things to say about virtual reality. Great work by all. Classic science fiction.
Superb. Excellent concept, well developed and delivered. Camera had hints of "Breaking Bad".
Damn this was amazing particularly the scenes 13:20 min onward 👌🏼Great work from that actress(s)
Thank you so much, I can still feel that scene in my bones
@@itsterralayne Woah! Fantastic acting, really great!
Oh! One of these! Blame everything else for one’s short comings, insecurities, choices and addictions. No responsibility for your own actions and screw ups. Blame social media, phones, VR, even drugs and getting ripped off. Worn out excuses for one’s own stupid choices.
Very good film. Worth watching. Well done
Appreciate the comments my friend, cheers!
Thought-provoking, to be sure!
I used to get all your videos on my feed all the time, and for some reason none are coming up anymore. Is anyone else having this issue? I love this channel's content, and I hope by my commenting, it tricks the algorithm into putting this content, back onto my daily feed. Keep doing what you do DUST, let's defeat the shadow banning of this channel. There should be way more people here, who are probably just like me.... not getting this content on their daily feeds anymore.
This reminds me of listening to my conscience remind me of goals I’ve achieved in life. My conscience isn’t as pleasant to listen to, though.
The parallels between social media & addiction are spot on.
Great film. Cheers
Thank you! I think we all wish our conscience was more pleasant to listen to lol
@@subvertedproductions ha! Indeed. Cheers
No acting needed 😂
The even greater danger: a Chimera that _doesn't_ have any bad side effects. The only downside is eventually abandoning reality full time.
So real in so many ways. Exceptional and brilliant. Covers today’s real life world, obscene. ❤
Thank you! Our job as filmmakers is to reflect what we see back at society through story. I wish I had seen something less obscene...but then there wouldn't be a film lol
Great film tragic truth.
Well fortunately for me I grew up without social media so not addicted, and never did this VR thing so never got addicted. I only have two addictions. My art hobby and my two cats. At least that’s staying in reality.
nice video, addiction is a powerful weakness which is very hard to take control off. Only if you really want it yourself, then you can succeed it in, it toke a lot of effort for the girl in the video to not wear that helmet even when her session was already started. In reality most would not succeed in putting that addiction aside when the drugs are calling u in front of your eyes. But it could be very inspiring if something crazy happens right before you need to make the decision, and I'm sure that it helped her a lot when she saw how she would eventually end up (like the guy)...
Congratz on the video!
At least the second dealer said, "Sorry ".
Chivalry isn't dead
This is a very eye opening short. This can truly be the future!
Feels like what Playstation Home could have become with VR glasses.
Let's pretend that was the initial inspiration and not Animal Crossing lol
This will happen and just give it time...That is the way now younger humanity is wired. Peace
That was superb. Oscar level attention to detail with stunning acting. If Felicity is "overpaid" as you told one poster, I can guarantee you that you don't pay her *enough* for the acting chops she's developed. Poor Logan! I was pleasantly surprised to see that you didn't go for the obvious and easy out of having a couple of cops finding their bodies later. Given your "Lady and the Tiger" ending, the possibilities of what Felicity's ultimate outcome of this misadventure give a thinking person a lot to contemplate.
Hi there, Felicity here! This was an incredible project to work on. Despite the challenges, I enjoyed every minute I got to work on it. I appreciate the compliment.
@@itsterralayneyou did a great job! Talented! Love this portrayal!
What she was playing in the VR system reminds me very much of addictive games we can get hooked on in our phones
Dayum. Intense. I see it possible already and just getting worse.. excellent vid.
Nothing says insanity more than trying to escape the Matrix by getting lost in another Matrix :)
We are closer to this state than people realize. Escaping shit reality instead of doing something about is sorely too true.
One of the best short movie
Welcome to the wonderful world of Fentanal. No one escapes
Shit....this hits the cortex hard
Thank you! Please don't sue.
🤯 Brilliant, Dark story line, Excellent Acting 👏👏👏 Please more of the above, Can't wait to Plug back in
Scary thing about this story is it is totally plausible. Just add in a foreign government marketing an especially immersive, addictive and dangerous version for their own ends and it could very well be a near future reality..
Don't need the government to be 'foreign' for this to be totally scary, my friend👀💥🔥💥🥺❌
It's already here Kevin, In 2024 it's called "TIk Tok"
Considering we are all here watching this, we are all junkies. I rush home from work to just zone out. My work life is not even real just those bills keep coming.
Powerful
really the best!
clip and virtual reality...
Wow. Too real. Too dark.
But very well done, very frightening. That's what the objective was though, right?
Objective complete :)
The film was great. I remember when vr was first coming out back in the early 90's and I tried it and holy crap it was scary as crap and was messed up for a little while the game I played was dactyl nightmare. I haven't played any vr games since.
I remember that game. Games have really REALLY improved!
Exceptional in every way.
Reality involves pain and consequences. Your duty is
to make the best of your life. Step down from cloud 9
Um trabalho de nível profissional, com ótimas atuações, especialmente das duas atrizes. Parabéns!
WOW Great! This how our future might look like!
Very well done.
Why this sci fi chimeras show us the future...
Timely...
Wow that was powerful. Great work thank you
Nice yellow potato peeler at 1:49🤪
Thus a new addiction 🥰
🙋🏼
This is masterpiece !
Very very good. And the mass leaves thier cellphones at home just for one day. Then the withdrawal, leaving the mass embraced in madness At its purest.
Well done and very powerful!
Wow!! Very deep and true.
Objective complete!
That’s the best game ever. I want to collect ruppies!
Positively thrilling the thrill of termination is overload of brain mstter
Boy Halo sure has changed since the days I played it on the Xbox🤠
We're going to have to do a Chimera sequel now with campaign co-op.
William Shatner came close to this with TekWar. It was underrated IMO
dem video games can consume your entire life. but if you have no life to start with, why not?
I have a question: Is this based on the book "Mindgames" from Pat Cadigan? It gave me an eerie the feeling of similarity as if this is an adaption of sorts... An answer would be highly appreciated, thanks.
Excellent short, well acted, written, directed, HQ made - thank you all involved!
interesting story and great direction
the best we need a full movie on laboratory condition
Excellent.
🐼 Big Panda Bear Hugs from a 70 yr old grandma in Texas, USA and by the way l'm subscribed and l hit Like. 🐼 ❤ 🎀
good film
MAJOR MINDBLOW MISSED! I was hoping it ended as a inception-style similation inside a similation. The glitching of "real life" was the possible indicator. Otherwise, awesome 😊
Coincidentally, Inception was one of the big influences on our score!
😂...I fuc$ing ❤it!
Great acting.
It could be way more addictive the video really great escapism
At 3:55 she says:man im hungry...how much is a double bacon cheeseburger..and a salad?
$1 million rupules.
Naa theyll have them eating vape.
Not watched any of these in like 2 years. It's a shame to come back for this. Great idea horrible execution. Can't wait to play vr game like S.A.O. though.
Oh, I love the message behind this short film. Dependence on computer games is becoming extremely relevant these days, since the degree of their development is growing and real life begins to seem not very interesting in comparison with them. In fact, games are a very good thing. They give us the opportunity to go on adventures that we would never experience in person, but this should never be at the expense of ourselves. The game is an addition to life and not a replacement for it, so a balance between both is necessary. And if life seems boring, you need to change something in it. I hope this video will make many gamers think... or future gamers. 🙏
Huaha! Nice day for fishing, ain't it?
the Nostalgist ...
Welcome 😁 to the future.
We're already living in a mostly virtual world. It's just not 3D yet.
