Magic Square goes for more toon accuracy where Newage seems to mix toon and toy. I prefer the Magic Square due to it having nearly no panel lines when compared to the Newage. I just wish that Newage and Magic Square scaled with eachother better so I could mix and match. Because there’s some times where I prefer Magic Square over NA (Their Grimlock and Optimus 2.0 for example) but then there are times where I prefer New Age over Magic Square (Their Inferno and Megatron)
In the Newage robot mode the toes need to be rotated and the dino head does collapses (the horns flair out) to be more flush while also fitting better.
Super thoroughly done my friend 👍👍 overall, I'm diggin Newage in every category. Dino mode looks better, finish and color is nicer, transformation was good and fancy, bot mode is super clean and detailed, more proportionate than MS. Not saying MS version was bad at all it's great but really for ten bucks the Newage one really hits like a champ 👌
From the start, the New Age one has been my favorite version! Nothing against MS, they also have a fantastic product, but i just can't get into the matte finish on their products. Amazing review, man!
Overall, I think magic square is more aesthetically pleasing because it doesn't have all of the detailing that Newage has because they did such a good job at hiding gaps and whatnot but holy crap, the transformation process to me, is a nightmare. Newage is definitely way more fun and pleasing to transform. The last Magic Square figures I've transformed is the Bruticus set. That was a freaking nightmare. Since then, I've collected the Magic Square dinobots and as much as I love them, but they have yet to be transformed and are on display in bot mode lol I love the packaging on both of them. But yeah, I love how New Age has that retro feel. I'm collecting the new age. G2 dinobots Dinobots. And I love the G2 style packaging. I have no complaints with Magic Square but I do dig the little neat cards that come with them and the stats on the back of the box like the old school transformers displaying their strength and weaknesses and whatever. My only complaint with Magic Square is the god-awful transformation process. My complaint with New Age other than the price as compared to Magic Square are the noticeable gaps on the characters. Not a deal-breaker at all but that's the catch 22 I guess since the transformation process is way more simpler than magic square. Either way, I put them both on the same level as being awesome figures. It's all about preferences.
I collect MS but with the dinobots I have the NA ones. MS is going to strait tune accuracy only. IMO the MS box is better, it comes with the power meter just like the OG G1 toys. Besides that the MS cleans up better, NA figures always have a lot of seems and they can’t seem to figure out how to hide the tail. It should have come with an extra piece like they made for Grimlock. Thanks for the review!
Great comparison vid! Odd how magic square has glossy parts on the dino hips. It's kind of a big contrast to the flat matte rest of him. Wow awesome tail storage in the chest tho! Love that! The newage feet are impressive! I'm always amazed at so many ways people can engineer the same bot and alt mode in completely different ways. Very surprising on no sword in newage... they usually OVER accessorize lol.
8:51 the MS does have the yellow nubs, you've actually used them to form the heel which isn't intended but works well, just seems you've got the step backwards
Great vid! The yellow bit that you used for the heal on the MS is actually supposed to be stored inside in bot mode and out on the back in dino mode. The NW is beautiful, but I prefer the toon accuracy of the MS. You can't go wrong with either though
Ahhh I see. I knew I was doing something wrong XD Too many things going on at once lol. Yeah, I agree: something for everyone. I switch camps depending on release, altho I largely prefer the NA finish on most of the products.
Question about something he didn’t cover/mention (afaik, I did skip through a lot). Who wins in toon accuracy out of the 2? More concerned with Dino mode, as that’s what I’ll be displaying my Legends scale Slag in anyhow.
They're 50/50 to me. Robot mode goes to Magic Square while alt goes to NewAge. NewAge is also cleaner as it's more complete and don't have that huge gap underneath. It also has way more paint and diecasts. I picked up the Ex version as I like the toy look of NewAge.
The robot mode legs ruin the NA Grimlock, Slag and Snarl for me. All three are easy passes. Both companies nailed sludge and I will probably pick MS Swoop if it comes with the same accessories as the NA but i am doubtful.

The hands are storable on the Newage one, and its possible to transform them without a tool, its just a little difficult.
I collect both ! If magic square painted these, it would be top notch !
This! Magic square makes top tier products, but their bare plastic just ain't it chief
@@theholo-library4020 ACTUALLY magic square does come with a more painted version a few months after the 1st release

Great review. I was going to get Magic square version but this has convinced me to go with the Newage one.
Nice nice. Happy I could help :)

If we could get something with NA's materials and mobility combined with MS's looks and prices, we would reach enlightenment.
That would indeed be perfection!

I think MS did a better job designing Slag and Grimlock so far but the Sludge is inferior to the Newage one.

Did you know that the Newage Slag in robot mode, the yellow toes can rotate? Then he has a wider foot. Great review!
Just watched a different review, and you forgot to flip out the 2 humps on MS Slag's back !
100% MAGIC SQUARE
Magic Square is cleaner
Newage seems better but not including a sword is a serious faux pas!
Forreal right? What were they thinking lol... or maybe they packaged it one of their Slag repaints to encourage folks to buy extras :(
Brilliant review, please compare magic square and new age dinobots
