I was there in late 2004 and all of 2005 ( with an infantry unit ) it was like the-WILD-WEST !!! We determined when to shoot or not to shoot,it was left up to our decisions.

I was gone from my civilian jobs for 2 yrs and 8 months doing those 2 deployments back-to-back,my co-workers thought I had up and quit. LOL. Then the last 2 tours,I did one yr at civilian jobs,then one yr in Iraq,then rinse and repeat.I went to fight in Iraq for the action and danger,my soldiers called me-MAD-DOG-behind my back-LOL. But,at the end of each tour they told-Ssgt Morgan,we're so glad you were with us !! You're one crazy SOB,but,thanks.That meant more to me than any award or medal.
In 08 from what I remember you had to have PID and they basically had to have their weapon directed on you before you were allowed to engage. It's like letting the guy you're fighting take the first punch for free. That's mainly because we didn't get the SOFA passed. Forced us to do all our raids with Iraqi Army or Police in tow. So they'd just tip off who we were hitting. Not a productive way to conduct combat operations lol.

It's the duality of man. We have the capacity to be loving and compassionate but also can be murderous and completely callous. Most people can't reckon with this fact and it's better for a society as a whole for most not to come to this realisation.
Its pretty much math. Basically they just calculate how the bullet they are shooting will get to their target. Wind mph, speed of bullet, size of bullet, natural forces like gravity etc, Im just a cool dude on youtube lol i'm no professional about snipers nor have i been in the military i just like to learn fr! They take written exams in sniper school that have alot of math problems directly related to real life! Lastly im pretty sure snipers roll in twos sometimes and the guy not shooting the sniper helps with the calculations and the sniper just listens and adjust! Anyone can correct me if im wrong or missing anything!
No ones ever made a 5 mile shot little over a mile is the record most impressive is Chris Kyle with a 556 1 mile now that's sick that's like aiming 3 foot above ur target

Dude is a great soldier and veteran. I hope the VA helps this guy if he ever starts questioning what he had to do, or starts having problems dealing with answering the same questions over and over. Couple years ago the VA came up with a brilliant strategy to weed out vets that were depressed or homicidal...they would literally start each doctor appointment with the same question.....do you have thoughts of hurting yourself or others? Now ask me once no biggie, but ask me the same question Everytime for every appointment and I might start to think I am. Like why keep asking me this? Do I come off that way? Eventually I spoke up and explained this is sewing a seed that makes me feel like I'm suicidal and I'm starting to believe it. Couple months later they stopped doing it throughout the VA healthcare and it's processes. I just being that up because I hope this soldier gets help IF he ever has the need.

What he saying is true. I was deployed that year and we had tower gunner scare to shoot because of the rules of engagement.
I was there in 09, and did a lot of convoys and yeah it was weird on convoys as far as dealing with vehicles.
