Just rambling about my XR. I misspoke about the rear suspension. Meant to say that it has zero free-sag in the rear instead preload. Gonna leave it to test Cunningham’s Law. This bike really is a blast.
Duke! Well done on the mods you have done to the XR650L! I thought you did great in the sand when we rode that portion of the SCAR! Practice is always a good thing and here in NC, we have some sand. Well thought out mods to the bike. Have fun at the rally with Carl! Thanks for the update! Cheers Buddy!!
I carry an extra plug and CDI box. Went with a Trail Tech Voyager. Did a Kouba lowering link. Aftermarket foot pegs and bar risers are a must. Don't know what they were thinking with 37" seat height and crazy low endo bars as I call them. Raising the bars causes the stock mirrors to vibrate. Maybe those aftermarket mirrors reduce or eliminate vibration? The bike does most things you ask of it and that is what makes it what it is and largely unchanged for 3 decades. Like the Pelican case. Good idea.
The mirrors still vibrate like crazy. The Pelican case was super convenient, but it got in the way a bit off road. I picked up a used set of Giant Loop Mojavi bags. Much better!
The SCAR is a loop around South Carolina that can be ridden year round. The rally itself can be seen here: www.eventbrite.com/e/palmetto-adv-rally-2024-registration-699630994137
I'm 5'11 and weigh 180 lbs and I am coming from a DR250 which weighs about 275 lbs. Is this bike something I should be able to handle off road? I'm looking for something street enough to get me to the dirt but isn't overwhelming to muscle around. I used to ride XR's back in the day.
If you don't mind the seat height and added weight, sure. The added height of the XR means that the center of gravity is higher. That coupled with the extra weight will make it feel quite a bit heavier than the DR. If I were smaller, I'd really be looking at the CRF300L.
Thanks. The seat height on my DR (non dual sport version) is 36 inches. I've looked at the CRF, but the XR appears to have better suspension. Even my old DR has a piggy back reservoir shock that's fully adjustable and better forks for standard than the inverted ones Honda is putting on the CRF. I will have to check out both at a dealer when I can find one that has both at the same time. @@mayo_moto

Heck yeah you really gotta spend a bunch of time in the sand if you want to be comfortable there. Thanks for the video Mayo!!!
No doubt! Thanks for watching!
sand always sucks at least for me hahah, hope your out chasing , we love out brp. enjoy the night and #livetoride
Many thanks.
Had GSA MY self, but love my xr650L for trail running 👍
Solid combo!
Tacos and beer while riding?! bold man! looks like youre having a good time out there! Stay hydrated!
In my experience, tacos and beer are a necessity to living a fulfilled life. 🍻
A fork brace would make a huge difference in how that bike rides on and especially off road
Gonna give one a go eventually!
Spaz sent me here to tell ya that's a kool bike
Spaz is pretty cool fella! Thanks for the comment.

do you have a link for those footpegs, mine are stock and they're very mild 2023 xr650l
They're IMS Core Enduro pegs. I've gotten used to them and I've come to like them.
