Are MindCap's New EXTREME DEMONS Good?

- In this video, I took a look at @mindcap.'s new Extreme Demons - "Every End" and "Heliopolis". These are vastly different from eachother, and extremely unique amongst all other extreme demons. I love the sunrise and reconstruction theming in Heliopolis. It starts out completely ruined, dystopian and messy with what looks like city ruins in the background and gradually gets more organized until the spider part when the sun starts to come up. As the sun rises the structures in the city look like they are being rebuilt, especially in the swingcopter part where objects are lifted and fall into place until the city is completely back alive for the finale with foliage, advertisements, signs, ac units and traffic in the background.
im pretty sure mindcap said that heliopolis is actually based off of his hometown (mindcap is egyptian and heliopolis translates to city of the sun) maybe this has some connection to the worldbuilding established in the level?

This is an interesting take, however it could have been intending to portray this change negatively, as the natural life that was once in the city is being overrun with technology and transport (as seen with the slamming movement and the sparks). Pretty interesting to explore the meaning

Heliopolis (i think) is a level based around the growth of the egyptian city Heliopolis (mindcaps hometown) (aka the city of the sun). Ya see how the first parts are very dark and use a lot of object spam and basic blocks, and then the level slowly gets more modern and artistic overtime?
This is what I think as well. I don't see any other way the progression could make sense from the very abstract style at the beginning to the realism at the end.

My favorite detail about helipolis is the speed limit "0.5". Subtle yet a cool touch
Something to note about Every End specifically that I'm sure some people have pointed out is that you could view it as an alt-reality of what GD would've ended up as if Robtop never updated and went beyond the scope of what the Impossible Game already did.
I'm sorry, but Every End is not rate worthy. Yes it has a cool background effect, but that's really it. I will be very surprised if it even gets a rate, let alone a feature or epic.

@@SevenOh7o in my view a level doesn't have to just look pretty to be good, there's more to it than that. The concept behind the level is quite interesting and imo deserves a rate
Mindcap is by far the best concept creator out there. Just take a look at all the levels he has successfully finished: limbo, Heliopolis, every end, orbit. I mean, they all have something unique that stands out from every level in the game. I definitely look up to him when making my layouts currently.

I so fucking disagree. Mindcap is the worst and most overrated creator in my opinion. I like orbit and Heliopolis but every other level he made sucks. Like f tier. I don’t like his levels in any way other than the two I mentioned and I can list off many reasons for all of them. He’s the most overrated collab host this game has EVER seen.

@@KyogreGames_GD "Overrated" can only really be used either objectively, criticizing something that *actually* isn't as good as people make it out to be, or when someone simply doesn't like it and is using the word as an insult. Considering how "how good a gd level is" is entirely subjective, you can't say they're overrated, because so many people like them and think they're good. Mindcap is simply rated.
I worked on both of these levels the past month before they released so I can give out some answers about some things.
Every End:
The way the background effect was done was by contacting Absolute and creating a program to convert the entire level's layout into something you could use visually. Everything was recreated with several objects with Absolute's program. However it's very object expensive and brings the level to 500k objects.
Heliopolis:
The theme for the level was something along the lines of "rebuilt" the person in your current pinned comment got it correct. Heliopolis starts of very ruined and "ancient" and as the level progresses, you can see gray start to overtake some parts, which eventually slowly creeps ahead of you and transitions into the more modernish like spider section. The ball segment afterwards really solidifies the theming here because those pillars that kept coming up from the ground were. It's rebuilding the city. Then obviously you have the swing copter which shows clear animation of blocks falling into place in such, and turning lively as foliage grows into place. It makes sense when you take into account it is directly based off of MindCap's hometown of Heliopolis. Heliopolis was an ancient Egypt location that has been of course rebuilt as the centuries went by, and is obviously more modern with cars and such technology around today.
500k objects on a 1.0 themed level is wild
You guys are legit artists, these levels just feel different, as if they tell a whole story by playing them, almost as if they had a soul

as an egyptian, mindcap really hit a place in my heart that made me really love heliopolis. the apartments, the hanging laundry, the arabic signs and speed limits, everything is just so realistic.
Im surprised you didnt talk about Orbit! I agree with everything you’ve said but Orbit is just as intriguing as these other two levels and I think you’d probably enjoy that the most out of the three.

MindCap is literally a legend, I was there at Heliopolis livestream showcase and it looked so unique and cool.
Every end is probably my new favorite level of all time. The song fits so well, and tiny details are everywhere.
It's not rate worthy though. It just has one cool effect. It basically an effect level like Checky if you remember that level.

About Heliopolis, i was more impressed that he used A Classic Trance song, instead of Dubstep with the majority uses, than literally anything else about the level(though the deco is pretty fire)

I love how Mindcap always brings such variety to the game and pushes the boundaries with level creation. As with Limbo, Every End is so unique and so vastly different from any other level in the game and it's so cool to see. Heliopolis is also super interesting in terms of gameplay and design.
fun fact: heliopolis is based of heliopolis in egypt (my own country, plus im partially from heliopolis). if you pause during the level with the signs they are in arabic.
His collabs are legendary, no wonder they get epic rated!
Mindcap spoke to me at length about how special and uniquely themed Heliopolis is supposed to be, and I think for what it was going for, it did pretty well. There's a lot of meaning and intention throughout many parts and aspects of the level which he hasn't publicly said yet but I assure you that the progression has tons of layers to it, especially the ending...
The core theme and idea of Heliopolis is a destroyed city being rebuilt, and the extremely immersive atmosphere together with the kickass decoration reflects that very well, with the beginning starting out as chaotic and almost spammy, and slowly but surely transitioning towards something dystopian-looking yet coherent and optimistically bright. Phenomenal concept with an equally phenomenal execution, love that level a ton.
The brief flashes are explosions that sync with the drums, and u can also notice the parts behind the player fall apart after the explosion, I think it’s a really nice little touch

Surprised there is no straight fly in Heliopolis given the fact that Icedcave helped with gameplay

Heliopolis is really cool. I love the decoration. I also love that a big chunk of the level was decorated by one person. And the level’s turbulent history is something to make note of. This might be my favorite top demon in a while.

i think the first one you showcased was actually pretty cool how they did the background because it probably took a lot of brainpower to do it

Sure it has some unique structuring but other than that it is extremely bland and the gameplay is not fun to look at
They say that creativity flourishes under limitations, but limiting yourself this much kills creativity, there has to be a balance.

I feel like the point of I helps explain its simplicity. I think it's a banger, but it's nothing compared to his other work like Limbo or Heliopolis.

@@kaffii not entirely, only the last parts. some of the gameplay is still way easier on 60fps compared to 360fps
I view Heliopolis as going backwards in time, how it goes from this overgrown sludgy marsh with vaguely industrial structures and then over time tells the story of how this came to be, through reckless treatment of nature and over-expansion.
