What I love about Clive is the passion the devs had about creating his character on both the Tekken and FF16 teams. The idea that both Jin and Clive are breaking free from their fate and creating their own path is so inspirational. As someone who's 24 and who missed out on college due to covid, this really hit me and got me inspired to not just play the games, but to improve my own situation.
Hello there fellow gamers. Konami actualy had 2 fighting games on the PS1 The first was a Japan release only called Lightning Legend: Daigo no Daibouken and another called Kensei Sacred Fist. The later one was kinda of a Tekken clone, even though it was a punch, kick, grab and not a block button, but a dodge button. It looked pretty cool at the time. There were so many experimentation on both 2d and 3d fighting games in that era, but many fell into obscurity unfortunately. Great podcast you three. Keep on keeping on. Cheers everyone and happy gaming
They were so hyped they didnt have a thumbnail for the video 😂 Edit: Also, i dont think Axel would fit in VF because he has flame moves. Feel like he would fit better in Tekken or Street Fighter
23:07 I actually feel like this is less for a single player mode and moreso how the actual game will be like. Ultima said this on Twitter, but I feel he described this the best in that the new VF so far has the vibes of classic action movies. And I feel with the combination of how the trailer was, Akira's design, the aesthetic of the whole game, and the stage being *organic* instead of being like older VF games where it's some random arena with simple map shapes, that may actually be what they're going for
When FF16 came out I played it and I really enjoyed the experience. Then I went online and the FF fandom absolutely trashed the game lol. Negativity spreads really easily, and eventually I found myself questioning whether I actually liked the game. So you combine that with the shattered expectations for Tifa and you end up with an overall negative sentiment for this character. I think it will eventually be like Noctis where eventually people will just get used to him being in the game.
The thing you gotta deal with when it comes to a fandom is that if a game is not a 9-10/10 game, fans of anything will treat it as worthless trash. Whenever there's nuance in feelings about a game, people just resort to calling it "Mid" and leave it at that. I've grown to hate that reductive method of reviewing how you felt about something. FF16 is a game of many highs and lows. My feelings on it are complicated, but I can also tell how hard it is to make a game of that scale. If you intentionally look for things to like about it, you will find a good amount.
I’m not exactly by any means a Final fantasy “fanatic” but as someone with approximate knowledge of most games and games discourse, it does disappoint me how so much of the FF fanbase being so rigidly fixated on FF7 and treat everything else with some level of either contempt or just aggressive indifference, even for the more next up popular stuff like FF10 or the MMO.
To me, FF16 is a weird in between game of RPG and Character Action game, which struggles on doing the two things at the same time. It was when the pc version came out and somebody did mod the game to remove all the cooldowns of the moves that I was getting pretty excited about the game, because at that moment I saw hopes for a not DMC/Bayo by Sqenix. So I can see why ppl of both camps weren't happy about FF16 overall.
There's a timeline somewhere out there where Tekken and Soulcalibur consolidated into the same team and we just got each game on the others off years, ala Mortal Kombat and Injustice.
9:06 Max s absolutely roght about FF15. The OG came out as a broken, bland mess so it was panned something terrible by fans. Never got to play Royal but, based on what Max said, it must have done some Cyberpunk levels of revamp.
Yeah, I can tell you as someone that has played FFXV both at launch and with the Royal Edition, the revamp did the game SO many favors. It expanded the quality and quantity of sidequests and minigames, it fixed most of the issues with the battle camera, it included the extra DLC chapters so you'd get the full story (which in turn made the story feel way more impactful and complete), and you actually got to switch party members in combat. There is literally no reason to play any version of FFXV other than Royal Edition unless for historical reasons or you're just a masochist.
I played FFXV on release and i think i quit around half of it because it was just bad and didn’t enjoy any of it until that point either. Then i bought the royal edition because i wanted to give it a second chance and i barely could stop playing it. It’s that much better, not even comparable to the mess that was released first
I never played FF XV Royal, i bought it on release night and it’s my favorite Final Fantasy game ever. I had been waiting for it since it was FF Versus 13
A big problem also that FF15 had at launch people dont often mention is that they left a lot of character backstory and exposition in the Kingsglaive movie and the short anime tie-in that nobody watched. I enjoyed the vanilla version for what it was, it was fun gameplay wise and I enjoyed the party banter in and out of combat. Your mileage will vary heavily depending how into it you are, though I've yet to play the Royal edition that's sitting in my steam library, I do wish they were able to finish those cancelled dlc episodes.
Jacky’s new appearance in Virtua Fighter 6 is something you wouldn’t really expect. His hair’s still relatively lengthy but it’s combed down. He has a connected beard and mustache that’s not too long. Lastly, his eyesight has gotten worse since the last time we’ve saw him so he now wears glasses.
I think you guys should get Mark MSX / The Electric Underground on the show to review the new Virtua Fighter game when it comes out. Guy knows his stuff and is very entertaining.
earlier this year, a trademark was filed for a new Eternal Champions game and there have been talks of a film adaptation, too. If any of these things actually happen, we'll just have to wait and see...
Though I understand that Noctis sold well and helped to invigorate Tekken 7, it doesn't negate the argument that he and Clive aren't the best fit for the franchise. And come on, if the argument is based on the character's/game's popularity or amount of money they would make, I have to imagine that Tifa would definitely do WAY better than Clive.
Yeah that never made much sense to me. Obviously Tifa would sell better if its about sales. They wanted to promote FF16 better so they made this deal in 2022. That makes sense but when it comes to talking about sales idk if we can compare the impact of the first FF character being in tekken to Clive lol. Entirely different eras in what we came to expect from guest characters.
The revisionist history on Noctis is wild. Many dedicated Tekken players hated Noctis for the entire cycle of Tekken 7 and it wasn't just shit like "He should have been in SC!" or "he should be Tifa!". Tekken players generally HATED his gameplay. Most people who enjoyed him back then just seemed to want to use a cheap character with "rule breaking" moves or weren't really that into Tekken and liked how easy he was to pick up from that perspective.
But thats the thing since it happened in 7 dont freak out when it happens in 8 its obvious having a FF guest character is their plan in tekken and its not going to destroy tekken.
It's not revisionist, that was people whining about his shit being good because they lost to him. He was mid asf and it was only in the final season where he was an alright character. It just exposed people to being whiff punished or refusing to learn his weaknesses. "Tekken players" hated every guest character if we want to be real here, Noctis was the highest selling character for a reason and it's not because everyone hated him.
Cracking up cause we're definitely gonna get a timeskip Jacky cause one of his customization designs in VF4 Final Tuned has him with a scruffy look with long hair.
The best hope for Bloody Roar is that VF does extremely well, causing Konami to think they have to get in on that 3d fighting game money, and look up their inventory to see what series they have that they could use for that.
48:55 want to note that the devs themselves said the game was ready for a while. but they delayed it a year or so (we got luke in SFV within that time frame) to fine tune it more. so i dont think its fair to compare models of new characters in these season to on-release ones. they had time to cook. and considering they need to get a lot of this stuff done within a time frame, the devs making the scenes we are seeing probably where given a model that was "good enough". so they have something to work with. stuff is def getting slightly changed/adjusted between that and release.
I think she will get like a Vega unique stage mechanic like jumping off the pole like in the early Fatal Fury games and a ton of moves unique to her like Max said
At least Noctis fit aesthetically since he was from a game with a modern setting. Clive's fantasy outfit looks way more out of place. But his stage is cool enough that I'll forgive it.
I am really excited for the potential of the PC port for VF with a hopeful Nvidia partnership there, and where that might go in the competitive space. Give us optimized PC versions of FGs! And do the GBVSR F2P option too!
Anyone who says VF has a story buried somewhere should watch the Anime series and/or play VF Animation on Game Gear (which is based on the Anime). This little Handheld game has an effin' story mode.
Was only made a fan recently when ultimate showdown dropped as someone too young to have played any of the older titles but I'm hype. Akira looks sick and very curious about Stella's whole deal.
I had the same issue as Max with the VF5 beta. The game would constantly match me with people that couldn't run the game at a stable 60fps and it completely destroys the netcode. I really hope they implement a performance test/benchmark before letting you play ranked in the final product. Also with the connection setting on "Good" it would match me with people with like 200ms ping, which doesn't count as "Good" to me
my take as fgc-tourist: heh they put the heavy particle vfx character (clive) into the heavy particle vfx fighting game (tekken 8), the inclusion of the eikons is over the top. iirc T8 does benchmark your system (at first startup to set initial settings) but it only gives you a number with no reference on what it means, so that leaves the player with an FPS overlay and maybe a replay with two Clives fighting each other as a DIY benchmark.
The people who are saying ff15 was well received didnt see its launch, alot of people were disappointed i feel like people only really came around after the royal edition with all the dlc and the character switching was implemented.
In regards to VF, I think due to RGG Studios making the game why cant Kiryu be a pleasant day 1 surprise? I hope that Sega goes all out with utilizing their ips in customization and elsewhere. I would love to fight against someone while listening to Dreamer by Yuzo Koshiro in VF. How about Genghis Bahn, Axel Stone or Shiva, and Mr. Dynamite? Heck I think it would be hilarious to put Tifa in VF after the Tekken debacle. Just have her break up a fight in her bar and there you go. While at it I think a Tekken character is likely and why not a DOA character? Really hoping that VF will be given a fair chance if Sega delivers, and that it can spark a 3d fighter renaissance.
ill always want Kiryu in Tekken but if the only option was for sega to not want to allow someone else to use Kiryu except themselves im still okay with that. VF5 has awesome grabs based on proximity of the environment and that just screams Kiryu Heat moves.
Tekken 8 having a Heat mechanic and NOT having ANY Yakuza/LAD rep when RGG games have had a Heat mechanic for 20 years is such a HUGE missed opportunity Glad we’ll highly likely get a VF rep in the next season or two, but it’s disappointing knowing that means definitely no Yakuza guest dlc because NO CHANCE they’d give any company the guest slots for TWO different seasons/years Hurts even further when Harada acknowledged that Kiryu/Yakuza was the most popular demanded DLC/guest during Tekken 7
Incorrect - Max. There is VF5 ver A, VF5 ver B. (also came out on the PS3) , VF5 ver C. (also came out on the Xbox 360), VF5 ver D (Pirates themes, mega bingo events, weapons costume poses and more), VF5 R , VF 5 Final Showdown, VF 5 Ultimate Showdown/Esports (also available on PS4), and now VF 5 REVO/Esports Ver 2.0. That's a total of 8 difference versions of Virtua Fighter 5, which is quite insane. The very BEST version of VF5 is VF5R. VF5 REVO/Esports is 2nd to VF5R.
Sarah's daughter, to me, just sounds wild, especially dressing as how her mother dressed being under J6 control 😅 I still believe it could be just a reboot of the series and that "Stella" is supposedly Sarah but brainwashed or maybe she's a clone?
Idk if he would fit there with his clone jutusu move, also he is very stabby with his demonfire dagger, they would have to choose either thug or breaker style for him, don't see them giving him slugger style or mad dog style.
_Eternal Champions_ was made by Sega USA. _No way_ will any character from that series appear in VF. Sega of Japan already killed EC once, no way will they acknowledge it in their flagship fighter. _Yakuza_ , _Fighting Vipers_ , _Last Bronx_ , _Fighter's Megamix_ , _Streets of Rage_ , _Shemue_ . Yeah, characters from all of those are fair game. But EC is a hard no.
34:50 Max is wrong in that statement, i've seen many VF fans saying that they don't want a new game to change in any way, some straight up saying that they just want it to be VF5 again. Is very disappointing to see them think that way.
I don't care if the guest chaacter is pacman, clive or fuckin liam neeson. I don't care if it's obi wan kenobi, I don't care if its Kim jon un, I don't care if its logan paul, I don't care if its master chief, I don't care if its jesus christ, I don't care if its Legacy of Kain, O don't care if its Brock lesnar, I don't care if its harry potter. I just want the fucking character to be fun. SOME FUCKING FUN. tekken 8 did good so far. Clive looks like fun, lets do it, I'm on board
I''d be curious to see how that could turn out. Goh isn't a real big striker and doesn't have a ton of strings. Goh definitely has the tekken look, and is a assassin for J6..
I like these characters but this would never happen, such a terrible idea LMAO the average person will see those two next to these legacy franchises and just go WHO??? it has to and will be a character that is box art worthy
Max I love you but by your logic Tekken 8 is the same as 7. A old game with a minor update. Both Rising and Tekken 8 made drastic changes to make both play and feel different. I would get it if Rising was just a balance patch. But they added new battle mechanics which made the game drastically different to play, rollback, a lot more online interactivity, a fall guys mode, etc. Same with Tekken 8. Minus the fall guys mode. Rising has done more than enough to be considered a new game.
Don't think konami has made a bloody roar pachinko so i think matts right bout them forgetting. hopefully sega and capcom inspires other jp game companies to revive old ip
my voice gave out when the VF logo splashed on screen I screamed so hard. It's awesome how phenomenal the game looks already and I'm SO glad they actually had the balls to slightly age up and change the design of their characters.
Honestly Clive was such a great choice to put in Tekken 8. Yes he feels like a Soul Calibur character and is reletively brand new but him and his game deserve more appreciation. Tifa would've been cool and she has a fighting style that does fit Tekken. But I don't think we'll see her until FFVII Remake Part 3 happens. Let Clive have the spotlight for now.
I actually completely disagree I would love to see a Bloody Roar reboot that’s more of a traditional style 2.5D game with an exciting combo system based around switching in and out of your Beasterizer form
I'd like to see (Lan Di from shenmue)come back as the personal body guard to assist with ( Lei fei), and be the successor to lau chan, and his Koen-ken style before he dies from his illness.. Lau still fights in the tournament but he's pushed up in wheel chair pre fight by Lan Di only to take some temporary Medication to allow him to fight full strength. Sega gotta use some of these shenmue, and yakuza charscters thats for sure!
I want Hugo from bloody roar in Tekken 8 I think the beast gauge works perfect for Bloody Roar and a lot of Hugo’s moves are already Mishima coded if you really look at his moves.
Haven't played FFXVI but I feel like the game backlash before it even released. I remember social media complaining that the characters were European. Don't know how much that affected sales but it was something people talked about. With that said, Clive design wise isn't really appealing to me personally. Something about him feels generic
The game was really great imo. I even liked the world lore and story but the characters and battle gameplay were peak! The hate about inclusion was hella forced and just like Yoshi-P said, there is inclusion and diversity in Valisthea despite, and maybe because of, it is inspired by medieval europe
The 'euro-fantasy' discourse always felt odd to me given how much a lot of people like FF Tactics and the Ivalice games. Even the older pre-FF7 games (including 9) lean into classic fantasy with knights and monarchy.
Virtua Fighter is my favorite fighting game series so I'm over the moon about the possibilities for the new game. I love the look and feel of the aesthetic (what little we've seen) and loved the (very) brief gameplay snippet. The one thing I really, REALLY hope they don't implement is any sort of meter or super move mechanic. Aside from the fact that VF prides itself on a certain degree of realism, supers would completely change the nature of the gameplay loop, which would be a terrible idea. I can't wait to see more.
I remember people liking FF15 and seeing so many positives tweets, screenshots and gameplay about it back then to the point I almost brought it and I'm not a FF fan at all. Seems it's become thought of more negatively since though. Whereas 16 I honestly had no idea that came out, maybe it's mixed in my brain with the 7 remake/remaster stuff?
Yeah Max was a bit off with that FF15 take… is 15 not liked as much in the time that has passed? Obviously. But was it as hated upon release? I wouldn’t say so. Disappointing yeah but hated? Ehh
Granblue was a better 2024 fighting game experience than Tekken 8, and it has a lot of features too. Big solo player story, elaborate minigames ouside the main mode (fall guys is better than tekkeneball, sorry), a better aproach to lobbies, much more fair and better battle passes, more consistent and abundant new characters, more playstyle variety, etc, etc... If Rising was based on og Granblue, T8 was also based in T7. In fact, the adition of bravery points and u skills changed the game in a much deeper and better way than what Heat did to T8. The only thing Tekken did better than Granblue in 2024 was having a bigger budget to begin with. Thats all. Aside from that, Tekken has been worse in every aspect. Not only that, but its top representative has been consistely lying to his clients just to get the hype selling in place...
with how u worded it, the only thing granblue did wrong is frame it as a 'big patch' release n not a completely new game, but just like how t7 expanded on t6 expanded on t5, t8 is still a completely different experience from the previous games
Grandblue is a game with a very moe-anime fantasy aesthetic, with a medium budget, from a franchise that is very popular in its niche but still not mainstream. The game award from what I know of it often goes more for the "bigger" AAA gritty style games as the best game mindset.
@@emperormegaman3856 yes, they almost always choose the bigger or the higher selling as winner. They see games as market products, not as playing experiences.

Stella's title is actually "Bridge Between the Worlds" or something like that, but the Dural thing still fits
They were so hyped they didnt have a thumbnail for the video 😂

Tekken 8 having a Heat mechanic and NOT having ANY Yakuza/LAD rep when RGG games have had a Heat mechanic for 20 years is such a HUGE missed opportunity
Glad we’ll highly likely get a VF rep in the next season or two, but it’s disappointing knowing that means definitely no Yakuza guest dlc because NO CHANCE they’d give any company the guest slots for TWO different seasons/years
Hurts even further when Harada acknowledged that Kiryu/Yakuza was the most popular demanded DLC/guest during Tekken 7
If I recall correctly Bloody Roar 1 & 2 are on one of those PS+ tiers
They were available for the PSP/PS3/psvita store but have not been added to the ps+ stuff
Virtua Fighter: Mark of the Wolves
Fighters Megamix!
Just wanna say I loved FFXV on release and so did many of my friends
Ditto 🙋🏾
Yugo for T8
Stella was The Bridge between worlds
THAT WASN'T SARAH??????
SHE HAS A DAUGHTER!!!??????
BROTHERRRRRRRRRRRRRR I NEED THIS GAAAAAAAAAME 😩
Oh yea, DOA, I can see Kasumi or Ryu Hyabusa being a guest character in VF6.
Max is *cranky* this episode, can't wait for MvC to finish up so he can sleep 😂
Sarah's daughter, to me, just sounds wild, especially dressing as how her mother dressed being under J6 control 😅 I still believe it could be just a reboot of the series and that "Stella" is supposedly Sarah but brainwashed or maybe she's a clone?
I don't see Akira much older so i doubt Stella is Sarah daughter. I think more about a brainwhashed Sarah or clone.
Majima for VF plsssss
Idk if he would fit there with his clone jutusu move, also he is very stabby with his demonfire dagger, they would have to choose either thug or breaker style for him, don't see them giving him slugger style or mad dog style.
Clive is so cool that I uninstalled Tekken and preordered VF5 REVO
_Eternal Champions_ was made by Sega USA. _No way_ will any character from that series appear in VF. Sega of Japan already killed EC once, no way will they acknowledge it in their flagship fighter.
_Yakuza_ , _Fighting Vipers_ , _Last Bronx_ , _Fighter's Megamix_ , _Streets of Rage_ , _Shemue_ . Yeah, characters from all of those are fair game. But EC is a hard no.
And no one remembers Virtua Quest.
Weren't Kage's mom a Dural at one point? If so, making Sarah Dural makes sense.
Damn, I have VFUS on PS5 but no cross play and rollback. Gonna have to buy REVO on Steam
How about SEGA gives us Mfkn Lan Di in VF6! Stop playing with us SEGA. GIVE US A DOPE VILLIAN!
34:50 Max is wrong in that statement, i've seen many VF fans saying that they don't want a new game to change in any way, some straight up saying that they just want it to be VF5 again. Is very disappointing to see them think that way.
I saw the opposite, especially on the jp side of things, ppl are hyped asf for everything VF related.
I’ve noticed this sentiment with 3d fighting game fans in general
@@j.i.nthenobody54 Yeah, i've noticed that too. It can get pretty frustrating to talk about fighting game mechanics with them.
Did Max say that Tekken 8 discourse exists for the most part because Elon owns twitter? Really wish I knew what he even means by that.
Yeah...that's odd. The answer I FEEL Max was trying to say was "the discourse is coming from Twitter, because Twitter sucks ass!"
Goh from VF as a guest in Tekken
Lidia from Tekken as a guest in VF
I''d be curious to see how that could turn out. Goh isn't a real big striker and doesn't have a ton of strings. Goh definitely has the tekken look, and is a assassin for J6..
I like these characters but this would never happen, such a terrible idea LMAO
the average person will see those two next to these legacy franchises and just go WHO???
it has to and will be a character that is box art worthy
A different Mai? Mai is Mai in every game. You can't say it's a different person because the art style is different.
It's not even different, it's one of the original designs from fatal fury.
Mai looks finneeeeee
Max I love you but by your logic Tekken 8 is the same as 7. A old game with a minor update. Both Rising and Tekken 8 made drastic changes to make both play and feel different. I would get it if Rising was just a balance patch. But they added new battle mechanics which made the game drastically different to play, rollback, a lot more online interactivity, a fall guys mode, etc. Same with Tekken 8. Minus the fall guys mode. Rising has done more than enough to be considered a new game.
Yes that's all ppl are saying Clive is cool. Rather have Tifa, but its cool tbh.
Don't think konami has made a bloody roar pachinko so i think matts right bout them forgetting. hopefully sega and capcom inspires other jp game companies to revive old ip
"Konami doesn't having a fighting game franchise!"
Ahem
TMNT Tournament Fighters
Lol I thought the same thing
It would be cool if it was Jacky's daughter and she just takes after Sarah more
my voice gave out when the VF logo splashed on screen I screamed so hard. It's awesome how phenomenal the game looks already and I'm SO glad they actually had the balls to slightly age up and change the design of their characters.
Yep. Checked out on MK1. They finally did enough to kill my interest in the franchise moving forward
Put Shadow The Hedgehog in your face in VF single player lmao
Sega need to put in Shadow the Hedgehog and announce a new Sonic The Fighters
❤🎉
clive just feels out of place, even the other magic users feel less insane. At least thats how he comes off to me
I felt 2B from Nier Automata was out of place in Soul Calibur 6, so i don't mind Cloud being in Tekken
Joel perez vs Akira Yuki
Still happy the tifa fans are mad.
I thought Dural was Kage's mom?
If not Kiryu I want Yagami from Judgment to be a guest in VF6.
Great day for a new Triple K.O. Podcast!
Justin is thinking of Krull lol
I think there is one 5 too many in the timestamps lol
Ehh
Yeah I honestly don't know wtf Max is talking about
Justin: "they gave Chun-li wrinkles in SF6" no they didn't??? Bro you PLAY this game. Why does this meme persist? She's the same age as Juri.
Would you cry more?
Grandblue is a game with a very moe-anime fantasy aesthetic, with a medium budget, from a franchise that is very popular in its niche but still not mainstream. The game award from what I know of it often goes more for the "bigger" AAA gritty style games as the best game mindset.
@@emperormegaman3856 yes, they almost always choose the bigger or the higher selling as winner. They see games as market products, not as playing experiences.
