The BEST and WORST Swivel Seat For Your Promaster

- After over 3 months of waiting on shipping we finally change out our stock seat bases to a lowered seat base by Discount Van Truck. They pair with our swivels to lower the seat height back to stock. This was much needed because Katie couldn't drive the van with how high the swivels made the driver's seat. We run into some problems along the way. In the end we also review a couple other swivels on the market and I give my take on the best swivel available for the Promaster! We even have a discount code to share with you for 5% off at the Swivel Shop, linked below.

It's been 6 months since we did this project but I finally had the time to sit down and edit it. The video is mainly about the lowered seat bases but this video really turned out to be a review about the swivels themselves and a couple other ones on the market. We even were hooked up with a 5% discount at the Swivel Shop for all our viewers! They sell the best available swivel for the Promaster! Use code 'trailvagabonds' with your order~ theswivelshop.com/?ref=trailvagabonds
Matt treat yourself to the better swivel, life is to short for a squeaky, shin killing, chair maneuvering sad ass swivel…LOL!! 😀
Haha! We might just have to! By the way, we are currently in NYC
NYC - you are some brave souls. I have been there a few times, but not a fan of the concrete jungle!! The colors are beautiful in the Northeast right now, enjoy!!
😂 I struggle with it too. Katie likes City life a lot. It's funny to see somewhere new
Hey that was me!
That bar looks like an absolute calf killer! Next time I build a van I’ll be sure to not buy those!
Haha! It's funny, they redid their swivels so this video might be moot 🤷🏼♂️
Great job keeping your cool! I’m on day one of putting forward a plan to purchase and retrofit my Promaster. Details at 11. Thanks for your tips and insight.
I hope the videos can be helpful! Sorry it took so long to reply. All the best!
You've convinced me to NOT swap out the seat base and purchase the Scopema Seat Swivels from The Swivel Shop. Thanks for the informative vid!
Glad to help. This video is a couple years old now and there may be other lower base options on the market. But after installing the Scopema on a few client builds I will say they are a premium product and I can definitely recommend them. All the best!
Hello guys , tks for video......
😊
Thanks for the video guys! I’m planning to add the lowered seat bases when they are in stock again.
I recently got around to installing CTA swivels on my Promaster. Went with them due to budget. I think it was under $400 for both swivels shipped. Their height on the factory seat bases feels weird, but otherwise I like them.
Nice! Yea, I found the back of my knees would get a little numb after long drives. The lower bases definitely helped. I'm surprised there aren't more options out there for lower bases. Hopefully Discount Van Truck gets better about their quality checks. It was a major hassle drilling them out, the metal was so thick! All the best finding a great base! Thanks for continuing to support us! 😊
@@northstaroffgrid Love your videos! I'm hoping to get away from CA too, so it's been really great to see how your escape has been progressing.
@@SoCalKevin that's awesome! If you decided to come through Salt Lake soon, let us know!
I have the Discount Truck swivel and Agree, pain in the ass! Very HEAVY and tiny hole? WHY? I Just left air bag disconnected! I will switch to scopema swivels on both seats this year. It is too High but I only sit in it when parked. It works, and was cheaper but I wud not recommend it.
Yea it was very disappointing that they were so difficult to work with. I’ve had great experiences working with the Scopema swivels. Good luck with your upgrade in the future!🙌🏼
hi matt, great video. I tired to use your discount code at checkout but it didn't work. Is it still active? I know this video is 2 years old.
Hello Lucy, I just tested it myself and it is still active. I hope you can get it to work because money saved in a build is always important! The code is “TRAILVAGABONDS”
Can the factory promaster 1500 passenger seat base be reversed to point back (without a swivel)? recommended if so?
Yes, either one of these swivels will direct the passenger seat completely backwards. I 100% still recommend the Scopema swivels! I made customer vans for a couple years and only used those and think they are still the best on the market for ease of install and quality. Our discount code should still be active too! Let me know if you have other questions
sorry, I meant without a swivel, just the OEM base reversed?
@ hmm. I believe it’s a square pattern so you probably could mount it backwards but not sure how safe that is for driving around and such. I’ve never had reason to try it though so I can’t say for certain
Hi, thanks for the vid! Can you swivel your driver seat with the e-brake in the up position? I'd love a scopema but need to make sure I can swivel first!
Because of the location of the Promaster’s e-brake, I don’t know if there is a swivel on the market that doesn’t interfere with it when extended in the up position. Due to the connection bolt to the seat, when it swivels it extends past the base height and would hit the e-brake handle. There may be an e-brake modification out there but I’m uncertain of that. In our personal van, if we are in a location I feel like the e-brake is important, I’ll disengage, swivel, and re-engage.
Super helpful. Thank you.
Glad to hear it! Let me know if you have any questions at all 🙌🏻
Good info! Thx
Glad to help! All the best in your build!
How does this solution compare to ram factory installed swivel seats
I haven't seen them in person so can't give my own opinion on them. I've been told if you can get them they are worth it though. Not sure on price. I've read they are part of the RV upfitter package but that is $4k. I wonder if they can be added by themselves
@@northstaroffgrid Ordered a 2022 PM today. They said $595 each for driver or passenger swivel on the 2022 models that can be ordered individually.
@@jonathant.arbuckle1371 thanks for replying with your personal experience! 😊
so you missed to provide the most important part - the seat base (which you modified)
How do you mean? It was a reason I did not like the DiscountVanTruck products
too bad, the swivel was available as an RV package deal and now it's available as an option for $695 each
I’d be interest to see if they’ve gotten better. It looks like the swivel has been revised some from the photos they have
OMG 2 weeks of Vagabonds!!!😊👍🚐🏕🚴
Woot! Hehe
This sounds like a nightmare. Wow. I’ll get a professional 🤣
Haha! The swivels I mention in the end of the video are pretty simple to install. I bet you could do those yourself no problem
Mayyyybe. I read that scopema were the best on my fb forum too. I can’t afford to add any height though. I’ll be doing the passenger side only possibly for this reason. Thx for the info! Sorry yours are such a pain
