This is the best video out there on changing a 2016-2021 Chevy Malibu air filter. I have a 2018 and, for me, found that the extra step of loosening the band clamp and removing the fat black hose made for a much easier filter replacement. Last time I replaced the filter, I did not loosen the band clamp and tried to shove the filter in, but wound up tearing the orange rubber to do so. Thanks for this clear and concise video.
I bet you either didn't unscrew all the screws all the way or you didn't unclip the cover from the bottom. No need to unscrew the clamp to change filter. Either way he does a great job at showing how to change the filter.
Well done, well explained, even had some comical outtakes at the end. 5/5! I particularly liked the accelerated screw removal and replacements... I watched that part at 2x speed to make it extra trippy. 🙂
Wasn't really necessary loosening the band clamp. Just need to loosen the 6 screws, slightly lift the cover enough for the filter to fit through and replace it with a new one.
Good video. I've got a 2016 Malibu LS. I recently replaced my stock engine filter with a premium K&N Performance filter. It's supposed to yield another 3 or 4 hp. I think the engine does run a little better, but I can't measure it. It's like using premium gas instead of regular. Overall I'd rate this car about a 6 out of 10. Most of them have a small 1.5 Liter turbo engine with 160 hp, but with the turbo it's more powerful than you might think. I would describe this Malibu's performance as not slow, but adequate. I'm not a racer. Sometimes it's nice to have better acceleration at intersections and on interstates. I was a sport bike rider for a long time, and I think I got used to the rapid acceleration you get with a larger motorcycle. Chevrolet unfortunately dropped the 2.0 Liter 250 hp engine option for 2023 and 2024. RB
Easy for you. Thanks for showing where it was and how to get to it. Unlucky for me mine was parked under trees, full of crap from the trees and I had to use a wet dry vac to get the stuff out, then I had to take apart under the hood at the windshield area and clean all that out. they do not have screens to stop stuff going into the cabin air vents so I had to cut window screen and cover them so it will not happen again. Hopefully that and a car cover will stop all the work in the future.
I recommend spraying the inside of the top and bottom halves of the air box with a liquid cleaner, then using an air compressor to blow out all the dirt and debris and drying it out with a cloth before installing the new air filter.
Unfortunately that Malibu is my friends car and he’s in Florida for school while I’m in Arizona. We can definitely add it to our list of future videos but it wouldn’t be for a while till summer at least!
Thanks for the video. Definitely a very simple and easy process to change the air filter. But I am curious about one thing: How much did Nike pay you to advertise for them with that product placement t-shirt?
Yeah, vacuum and some spray like invisible glass/ window and paper towels is what I usually use. It's not very serious or critical what you use as long as it ends up clean. Most people do not clean it at all.
@@katp9901 What year Malibu's do you have? My 2020 has idiot proof screws that won't fall out even after being unscrewed all the way. If you lost a screw I'd just unscrew another one and take it to Home Depot/Lowes and match it up best to what they have.
Can I say, I’m a 22 year old single girl 2000 miles away from my dad and am CLUELESS about vehicles. I love how you explained everything so clearly.

This is how I did mine as well and still had plenty enough room to easily clean out the air filter bay. Seems like an unnecessary step
Didn't you have to clean inside?
@@rnjs378 Yeah mine got dirty so had to clean the air intake.
This video is beyond awesome! Thank you for doing it straight to the point! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Great video! I really appreciate how you take time to explain everything. Camera work was fantastic as well.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice comment! I wish you and your Malibu the best! 🙏🏾🙌🏾

Thanks for the vid bro!
Glad it helped!! 🙌🏾
Nice job with the video, too bad you didn't go one step further and show how to reset the filter life monitor.
Thank you 🎉
Thank you!!!!
Does this need too be clean when you smoke in you car

You’re too kind! I WISH I was big enough to grab Nike’s attention. Wish you and your Malibu the best 🙏🏾🙌🏾

What happens if the screws fall behind the filter thing while trying to screw back on
Clean the inside of the filter compartment box with what? Just vacuum?

$25 for the part instead of the 60 that Jiffylube wanted to charge me. Thanks.
Good job karamjot sarai.
Thank You ❤️🙂
They wanted to charge my wife 50 dollars just to do this. Thanks for explaining
Just to confirm, same filter and same install for the Malibu Premier 2.0? Thanks for the video.
Just walk outside and open your hood. If you have the same engine then the answer is yes!
@@SaraiGarage but the standard engine is a 1.5 turbo, the Premier is a 2.0 turbo. Install should be the same I imagine.
@@dannyb9140 yes it is
@@Mames5537 TY
@@dannyb9140 No problem. I had leaves and a lot of dirt in mine so have a vacuum handy lol
OEM Amazon link you’re amazing 🤙🇺🇸
I dropped a screw inside and cant find it on the side can that be a problem
Did you find them? I’m having this problem now

They tried to charge me $195. Cabin filter $175. 😮
Fisher price nuts and bolts!? It just means quality nuts and bolts.
It was just a joke about how big they are! I love Chevy! They make great quality cars. The best American Brand imo.

Lol at fisher price bolts
And uh we're uh doing an uh video of uh airfilter uhhh uh uh uh change.

Get a k&n filter why are you using paper filters when you can get one that lasts forever?
Put k&n in there
