How to Make a Flexible Wooden Tie

- Today I'm going to show you how I make a really cool flexible wooden tie.
I use Walnut and Purpleheart to make diagonal stripes and a CNC machine to cut out the pattern.
I'm still learning a lot about how to perfect this process, but I think I'm ended up with a pretty cool product.
Cool design, I hadn't though of using a cloth backing. I made one a few years ago that I re-saw on the bandsaw, cut groves for elastic and glued back together. As for the cnc, that's slick! I got a small hobby one and like to use painters tape and super glue if I'm worried the spindle will hit one of the clamps I'm using.
It's an espectacular Tie! It avoids the making proccess so you don't have to tie it again and again. It also ends up being so fancy

I wood wear that tie but knot in a formal situation. It may go against the grain in some places. I do know that I would have more than a sliver of hope for compliments.
Smart move to use felt on the back. When I did mine a couple years ago I bored holes in all the pieces and threaded elastic band thru it. Awesome looking tie.
Any chance you could send me a template of the tie? I understand if you want to keep it for yourself. :)

What kind of template are you looking for? The only thing I have really is what I put in the computer for the cnc machine
@@benofalltrades I was looking for a template to print out. I've seen other people make a pdf. The template is divided on 3-4 pages so it is 1:1 in scale.
But never mind. I just thought you had a template on the shape and so forth.
I have to do one my self. :D

I used 4mm birch plywood and stained it with Zar black walnut.
It came out awesome and I even made a smaller one to my 8 month old son. :D
My next project will be a wooden bow tie. Should be a piece of cake :D

Woodglut has very good and accurate plans.
I did something like this a month ago with plans from Woodglut.
In my first work I always used Woodprix plans.
I was using woodprix instructions to make it and I did it already :)
