  • Part 2 of 2 of making custom Settlers of Catan boards. In this part I make everything else required to play the game (other than the cards). There is a lot of CNC work going on and a lot of trial and error. I think the end product turned out great! What do you think?

Looks good, I will be attempting to make one for my daughter’s birthday.

Good luck! To make it easier you may want to look at videos for how to cut hexagons on the table saw!

Look into a compression bit for your cnc. It combines an upcut on the tip and a downcut for the rest of the shank. It would’ve allowed you to cut out the resource tiles with no tear out on either side.

Couple of questions, (I am thinking of doing these as table numbers for a wedding)...what font did you use for the numbers? Is there a specific font for Catan? Also, is a vector file available for the number tokens? I need to scale up in size.

I don't have much experience with cnc routers, but would it have been possible to put a sacrificial board under the timber so the router could cut all the way through?

Certainly possible. The issue you run into with that is that once a piece is cut out it is loose and the bit will usually knock it somewhere and it could break the bit, or cut into the piece that was just cut out or something like that. If I was good enough I would try to put tape under everything that was cut out all the way to hold the pieces down, but that can be tough. At least for a beginner like me

I'm really amazed at how much energy is wasted on a board game project. If it were human energy (handcrafted) I would even consider it cool but it was all done with a large number of electrical machines.
