Michael I thought this was an awsome video. Your inovative method of cutting the back to make the tie flexible was VERY interesting!!! Thanks for the video.
+Chad from ManCraftingTM I've been contemplating making a new intro...that one was supposed to be for my painting and drawing vids...but then I fell in love with woodturning & all things wooden. Thanks for watching!
+Mike Leas thanks bro! I was really glad it worked. I had tried a few other ideas before I came up with that and was pretty happy with the results. Thanks for watching.
+McGinn's WoodShop lmao! You touched my wood? I thought Sara was the only one...come to think of it lot's of people were touching it...must have been the shine! Lol
+Bobby Duke Arts thanks brother! Lol, had to throw in a little Zoolander blue steel face :p I'll be making more, maybe throw a few up on Etsy...but i'm sure we can work something out!
Ummm, so I just realized that "I want that" was "your line"..... meaning you are going to make a giant glow in the dark one out of 2x4's in some crazy epic fashion??...Lol
I had it for a few years now, worn it a bunch...and it hasn't broken yet...it's not being constantly flexed so seems to work out fine...i think it depends on the type of wood you use and the grain direction
this is awesome! I have been saving a few pieces to make ties and now that I've seen this method I like it a lot better than the elastic... I have applewood and Spalted chestnut sitting waiting to be made into ties...
That's so awesome Michael! I love the kerfing idea for the flexibility too, Brilliant!! Keep up the good work, really enjoy your videos... and have to say I'm jealous of that Laguna you're standing in front of =D
Thanks for checking it out Zac!! Every now and then I have an idea that works :P Don't be jealous that is the only "Brand new tool purchase" I have made for my shop...the rest of my tools are all hand me downs and cheap buys on craigslist...lol....but you make due and upgrade when you can!....But she is a beaut & has been running smooth!
Ahhh...I used to have a license plate from NH that had Live Free or die on it...just thought maybe...Yeah too cold up there for sure...fun to visit....lol

I loved that tie. It felt so different than I expected. Also, that intro is just sick. Totally an unfair advantage. lol.

It was a huge hit at the woodworking show!!! If you make one I would really love to see it!
I touched that tie!!!! Great work!
+McGinn's WoodShop lmao! You touched my wood? I thought Sara was the only one...come to think of it lot's of people were touching it...must have been the shine! Lol

DUDE! sweet!
+ron adelberg Thank you my friend!
Nice project!
Thanks mate!
Very cool. I’d worry it’d break at one of the kerfs though. It looks pretty sturdy, yet flexible. You don’t worry about it breaking?
I had it for a few years now, worn it a bunch...and it hasn't broken yet...it's not being constantly flexed so seems to work out fine...i think it depends on the type of wood you use and the grain direction

👍🍺
Thanks for stoppin in Dave! Appreciate the comment & the watch!
I have watched all your videos... I'm usually in too much awe to post comments lol! :D
Nonsense, please comment anytime!! I love the interaction with other turners and makers!!
How thick was that wood for the main body of the tie? Did that top piece have notches in it to run string through it?
The main body of the tie was roughly 3/8 inches and yes the top piece had a channel cut into it to run the adjustable neck piece through. Cheers!
Can it be made from any type of wood?
Pretty sure there are a lot of woods that could work, you just need to be aware of the grain orientation so that it doesn't snap when bending.
that is wonderful tie bro ! is match better that the other that is parts ! you really have make me think to make one for my self !,, I will ask you for your advice when is the time !,,
+Kostas Annikas Deftereos thanks bro! was a fun little project! I will certainly be making more

+Shogun-Jimi I see what you did there...lol I was just tie-rd of being un-tied all the tie-m
What do you do to attach the tie to your neck?
+orthopod40 I used an adjustable band from an old bowtie.
