I sure do appreciate you posting this! I spent many years and thousands of hours on those models of tractors... (I'm 76) The M was a 52, but I don't remember what the H was... But they were both workhorses! Plus, I've always loved the smell of freshly turned ground😊... So, a big thank you from me!!
Boy, that brings back memories, steel wheels rattling on a gravel road, the purr of a 4 cylinder engine, and the smell of fresh turned topsoil mixed with a whiff of hot oil.. nothing like looking back on neat furrows.
You would be so proud of CAT! I just watched a Danish video, they were using a Cat D10 to pull big fishing boats out of bay up on the beach. They pulled about a dozen or so out. Smallest boat looked maybe 30 ft.
Like to see the old Farmalls plowing instead of being paraded on streets. No one plows much any more so laying out a field is almost a lost art - good video - keep them coming
Sad that the little farmer was squeezed out by factory farming I miss the old days picking corn by hand piling it in the back of a pick up. I love plowing when I was a kid my dad would get the first rows started then turn me loose
@A Phoenix is Rising I know what you mean, except it was JD 2-Cyls.-- Ar, Br, G for me. Our neighbor had a IH that i used to go "file the points" on for those that remember what points were. Don't recall what Model it was.
When you said rocks, I thought I was going to see one of those head snappers where the trip hitch does what it is supposed to do. I experienced that a few times plowing, as a kid, with a John Deere G. Great memories---hearing that JD, the smell of freshly turned sod, and birds following to grab worms.
I remember my dad plowing with a McCormick Deering WD9 pulling a three bottom plow much like that. Walking along in the furrow behind bare foot on the cool soil and finding a horse shoe one time many years ago.
This is undoubtedly the best video I've seen online demonstrating how to plow...beautiful...I plowed with 2 bottom little genius #8 on steel a few weeks ago with Farmall M pulling it....what a day. You learned me how to make the first passes and get the land started...Thanks so much!!! It worked great... BTW, research shows that fantastic IH plow was put into production in 1928 and was built for about 30 years.
hey that took me back to early 50s when i was first introduced to plowing the furrow at an age of 6 basically had to stand up as my feet didnt reach the pedals. never seen them new style molboards on them old plows.
Never did much plowing but, my friend those rows are straight as a string.. I just loved how that soil just rolled over.. you could almost smell the soil.. I bet this brings back a lot of memory's from the old folks that had to make a living plowing, Nice job, AF&AM
Excellent tutorial on how to start your lands...I have been doing it all wrong and worked from the outside inward...I purchased a nice 1949 Farmall M gasser in 2011, a 1956 Farmall 450 LP in 2017, and a 1965 Farmall 706 Diesel with IH engine in 2019...They all 3 are running... after considerable work on the first two that were dead for 10-15 years and parts missing. The 706 was purchased in running condition last month, but needs new tires, the tractor included a front loader with bail spear and 8' scrapper blade that came with it for $4k...I have the same IH 2 bottom trip plow on steel you have, (research showed that wonderful plow was made from 1928 to about 1960), and I own a JD 3 bottom with hydraulic lift that has not been tested yet, and apparently I'll need a 4 or 5 bottom plow for the 706 Diesel...Thanks for the turorial. I learned a lot from your experience...God's speed on your future endeavors...DP PS. I'm going to pick up an AC-72 combine this weekend...I've been looking for one for 5 years and one finally popped up about 400 miles from me in good condition and resonable price.
Those mold boards behind the M were pretty well polished by the time your video captured them. I recall carrying a scraper to clean them at each row end until they polished up. The soil at our NW Indiana farm was a sandy loam which polished those plows nicely. Our Illinois land looked much like yours and took a few more passes to clean up. Always followed up with grease on the plow surfaces to keep them shining, but it never seemed to last on equipment stored outside. I also remember buying plow points at Tractor Supply. Good memories!
That Farmall tractors brings back a lot of memories where I grew up in Pennsylvania we had one just like that and that is how I learned how to drive at a very young age thank you for showing that special tractor😀😆

Hello. I really loved your plowing video, 2 bottom #8. I love these old Farmalls. I'd really like to learn more about how to use it. Just bought a 1945 Farmall H. The traditional ways interest me beyond expression. Again, Thank You for taking the time to explain and demonstrate.
Just found your TH-cam channel a couple of weeks ago. Great plowing video! I collect old John Deere tractors and related equipment that I use on our small farm. Lots of good restoration tips that can be applied to any make tractor.
Well, then.... I just learned a LOT about plowing! Doing a heck of a job, Squatch. Looks like it is rolling over real nice. Thank you for the great video, once again! Now I can't wait until our next plow day in the spring. Should be fun to try to get everything working properly.
Squatch253 I would like to get my 2-bottom Case plow up and running. I originally purchased it for yard art, but then I thought... Wouldn't it look good behind my '41 Case SC? :-) Maybe in the spring I can get it in good enough shape to drop it in the dirt. We'll have to talk. I know I am missing a sod cutter (if that is what it is called), and the shares look like they are well worn. Maybe I will do a video on it soon. Gives me an idea now!
I really like to see the matching equipment. You’re ground looks pretty nice, those plows did a beautiful job. Dialed in quite nicely! My land is mostly light with exceptional drainage, but clay knobs here and there. Dad’s on the other hand is pretty heavy clay throughout. I’m running a F145 Deere 3-16 semi mount with my 720. I have a 555 pull type which would be more age appropriate, but it’s not quite ready as of yet and I am spoiled with how well the 145 works. I look forward to more of your content. Blessings to ya.
Growing up I had a friend who's dad restored many IH tractors. His dad ended up getting a place with 20 acres and we would help him shred the grass occasionally. I do remember that one of the tractors he kept for himself was an "H".
Dad used to paint old motor oil on the mow boards after plowing to keep the rust at bay. Nice job on plowing the field the new plots today don't perform like the old ones. Not sure if its the plows or how quickly the new larger tractors move through the fields.
Thank you, 2 H's 1 M a W9 a F 20 and a Rumley Oil Pull 1928 and down in the south pasture was a Happy Farmer. My favorite a Disc a two ton Tandem 2 way. Used 1 H for front end loader.
That's a FINE job and I'd been wondering if you'd been into any agricultural endeavors. This answered that question. Looked like perfect weather and soil moisture for doing some turning and the old Poppers were running like Swiss watches but that was no surprise from a man that keeps Ford solvent. Thanks, Toby! Another fine one and you might have to convert the Cat rat rod to a rock picker!
I just watched a guy that was plowing with a Cletrack that he'd stuffed a V-8 in and the dirt was flying high and I thought of you right off the bat! When you get done with whatever it is that you'll be working on we can all say 'Well, there it iS! Take care, Toby and keep on making Ford happy so's you can pay the light bill!
That's what we had. Bought the 560 used with the 4 bottom fast hitch plow. Did all the plowing and disking with it. Did your 560 have the hook that you could reach down with while sitting on the seat and unhook from the plow?
@@GunsmithLC The hook was layed beside the seat mount attached to the platform with two spring clips. You had to pick the plow up and set the foot down to level the plow then you could set it down until the weight was off the tractor and the plow stable. Just reach down with the hook, unlatch the fast hitch clamps and pull out of the plow.
We used 3 bottom on the M, 4 bottom on the SuperM that had a Fire Crater head, larger Valves and ported, Also had a MD/TA that would pull 4 bottoms. Thanks for Posting.
Looks like plow i started with. Dont recall a number wasnt enough paint on it to have a model number that i can remember. 2x16 And yes we had rock backed uo a rehitched countless times sometimes right away after rehitching😂. We also had a JD plow whole back end would pop up in the air no tail wheel except a solid one it pulled harder than the ih plow.
I had a in law with a 2 bottom set of that configuration. I fuller welder in the wire parts and hard surfaces everything on'em. Worked out well enough till they sold out the dairy and he retired. Somebody bought'em at auction never saw'em again...

Squatch253 Very interesting! Thanks for the information! I think for sure our 2 are no.8s as they look identical to yours except one has the other style of boards. It has the slots in it. I’ve got a video of it for you to get a better seeing if it as I’m not a very good explainer, lol!
Outstanding
