Mr. you have the patience of Jobe! I bet your brain goes non-stop 32 hrs a day! But when you let us in on your concepts, it's dang sure worth it 👌. I believe that's why we keep hooked up to your channel! Love it!
@bigmoustacheal3295 Actually, "patience" is something for which I often pray; oh I'm man enough to control my temper, but it sure boils under the surface sometimes!! I can't count the number of times that I've busted a knuckle, thrown the wrench 1/2 way across a hayfield, then had to do the walk-of-shame to go fetch the wrench 'cause it's the only one I had 😉😂
I sanded down a clam shell thus wk .015 on my kitchen table, sanded for hrs, then used a dremal with a sand roll to lower pockets, then used a thin dremal grinding disk to cut the location grooves eye ball!! I put some of the work on my page! Great video sir!!!
@alltherpm Great deal!! Have you put it together yet? ( I ain't watched much of anyone lately; weather is breaking and I've been busy; another busy day tomorrow). I'll try to get it checked out at some point.
@HayChaffandSawdust1 im waiting on new bearings and seals, even tho the ones in the engine are new, it will make me feel warm and fuzzy, should have it together this wk end, hope my work on bearing pockets works!
@alltherpm I'm sure it will work just fine!! I'm sure you're aware, but in the event someone else is reading our comments, it is important to get the bearing pockets fairly close so that it hold the bearing JUST right; too loose and the bearing will hammer the pocket; too tight and the crank will be hard(er) to turn. I don't know what the actual tolerance is, but just be aware that the clamping force may need adjusted by sanding a little more on the bearing pockets or the base.
So it's a .750 bearing and I'm sitting at .743ish, seal seams tight so test will be setting crank in and spinning, I tried using a drill bit but by time it cut it was over the size hole I wanted even tho it was right size!! Go figure huh, cant b that easy!
@alltherpm I am also accustomed to seeing imperfect threads. Even that big void in the casting wouldn't really bother me; the problem being that the void contained something that was knocked loose by installing the plug the first time. Probably could seen 500 more cylinders and never see that again!! 🤯
Hey, how is it going? I haven't commented in a while, but I've been watching. I like your idea of the jam nuts on the bolts that holds the cylinder to the jug. Interesting to learn about strato saws, and working on clamshell saws. Say hi to the dogs for me.
@TheJohnDeereGuy Things are going well! It's been chilly, but the weather broke today and it's going to thaw into a muddy mess. Just picked up the small dog from the vet; she is doing well now; Kicks is ornery as ever! Good to ear from ya!
@mattw5729 It is a bummer... or not??!! I got practice on cutting bearing pockets again 🤷♂️ and a cheap (about $30) lesson that, like you mentioned, will stick with me. I had a cheapo AM cyl that had a blind hole for the impulse one time; that's another of my "nervous tics"!! I poke something thru the impulse nipple of every cylinder now. That first (and only) time was a bugger to find the problem. I sure ain't forgot it though!!
@crazyfeller5704 Thanks Crazy!! I have done two more since this particular episode; I just finished the Poulan today; they are looking better and better with each time! Sure am happy you're here!!
Nice video. I don't have the tools, or the skills, to perform this type of work on a saw. I have a couple of Stihl 026 saws that I really want to put back in running condition and I wonder if I would be successful with Hyway or Meteor parts if I can't find reasonable used OEM parts. I don't really need another saw but I hate to not see them cut wood again.
@user-ret-cde-ret Thanks!! I think a meteor or hyway would be fine choices; I think if you call Ryan at Wolf Creek Saw Shop, he will give you his opinion if one is better than the other. I would sure not let a piston and cylinder hold me back if the rest of the carcass is ok. Worst case, I'd put an Scammazon/Fleabay one on it.
@@HayChaffandSawdust1 Thanks for your recommendations. I think I would be able to clean up the rough spots with a dremel on a replacement piston and cylinder. Perhaps a little smoothing and polish on the exhaust but would keep the intake a little more coarse to promote aerosolization or atomization of fuel. Does that make sense?
Disappointed in the cylinder scouring, seems like two steps forward and one step back 😢. But the “flaw” in the casting was something that was not easily found and just shows that the price point is representative of the quality control at the factory. You have the patience to overcome this setback 😅. The response time of the brown truck is getting worse as the number of boxes transported increases…..
@wrstew1272 Oh, I guess it *IS* my fault; I didn't inspect EVERY little nook and cranny; I had one AM cyl that had an impulse nipple... but the hole wasn't drilled all the way through... talk about hard to find!!! These are about like buying used equipment on a consignment auction; you know SOMETHING is wrong, you just gotta find it!! I do get a little bit of education with each cheapo cyl that I use!!! Ol Brown Santa does take a little extra time, don't it??!! Of course, scamazon shows an "expected" date that is usually a week out; it never ships until the day before... I refuse to pay extra for faster shipping; if I were to spend "extra" money, it would be for better cylinders 😂😉
Sucks that the metal from around the spark plug fell in the cylinder and messed it up. Here is a thought. How about 2 carbs? One feeding the intake and the other feeding the Stratos. Maybe if the intake block doesn't work. I get it's kinda the same thing. Thinking out loud ya know. Thanks for the video.
@TheJohnDeereGuy Yeah, it stinks a little bit; sure glad it's a hobby and not "production" work! The two carb thing is something I had considered; not really for the performance, but for the cool factor!! If I could lag the strato carb behind the regular carb (linkage wise), I wonder if it would sound like "opening the 4-barrel" on an ol' Rochester Quadrajet?? Dual exhaust with miniature rain caps would tie it all together!!
@tomintexas817 Grain elevators or the type designed by Otis? I don't reckon i would want to work on either type; hate heights so much I don't even like thick soles on my boots!!

Hello Moonshine. This one is for the algorithm. I'll watch it again later whenever I have time to pay attention. Thank you
@itllkeal Just kick with a Mason Jar and put the video on "repeat" until you catch up!! 😉
👍👍 keep up the awesomeness

@@HayChaffandSawdust1 yeah I measured empty pockets then measured od of bearing, it seems to have around .oo8 squish on bearing

The exhaust port area looks to be fairly different to the naked eye between oem and chinesium one.
@Alan_Hans__ Good eye!! Hope all is going well on your end of the world
All my cylinders even remember vintage have missing thread spots, but tightens up great

@mattw5729 Thanks Matt!! We sure all do a lot of learnin' from each other down here, don't we??!!

OEM for the win
@jamiedalluge9472 OEM is where the smart-money is at!!

👍
@pastormike5054 Thank you, fine sir!!
all my saws are as oem as I can find most are 30+ years old 😅
@tomintexas817 I think that's sage advice!! For "using" saws, I sure like OEM; for "testing" saws, I mess up too many!!
@HayChaffandSawdust1 I just over intaked a new oem 046 piston that cost me a hundred dollars I just don't live on farmin' money 😅
@tomintexas817 Better than ruining a cyl or case, I reckon?? Unless you farm with your mailbox, farming won't pay for too many hobbies.
