I love that this project started as a “Can it be done?” sort of a deal and thankfully didn’t stop there! It has been so fun to see the different iterations, failures and learning opportunities that have come from the build process. Keep it up please!
@@JetSkiBrothers hahaha we all laughed with you and at ourselves cause we've all been there in one way or another 😂 would have been easy to skip over that part / not go out of your way to edit in in, but glad you did. big ups man sick vid and sicker skis 🤙
@@JetSkiBrothers Hah ! I get distracted by my own thoughts, or by my cat... or a moth that finds its way into the garage... Well done getting anything done
2:45 That's a lot of bolts 👍 Lol... no pushrods ... I thought it sounded a little funny turning over. Hey, at least your pistons aren't in backwards ! 8:19 I'm probably wrong, that that sounds like the timing is off. 9:00 Hoooray !! I was Right ! Awesome video. That montage at the end was epic, also !
I feel your pain it's always the little things that make you want to pull your hair out And I don't have enough hair to lose anymore Thanks for the video it was really fun To watch And I don't mean watching you struggle Just the process of putting that motor together and into that ski awesome job👍🏼👍🏼
I found out that all aluminum 5.3l LS engines used are about $2,000 average in Central Pennsylvania this year. I was like woah??? Had no idea. Last one I had was in a 2005 GMC Yukon XL and it was an awesome engine!
Just want to say that OHV engines with no pushrods mounted actually usually got pretty good compression. The airflow numbers through the heads tend to be kind of bad though... 😮. But seriously, you did a great job as usual and I liked the compilation. Merry christmas to JSB!
Gday Josh, We use to have a Fastlane 40 down here in Oz with two 454’s, Merlin Heads and associated fruit. We pretty much went everywhere at full noise and went through our fair share of engines. Got pretty good at swapping them out. 😁 I know the feeling of spinning a bearing due to low oil pressure. We had the boat fully loaded with the fam and gear for a weekend over at the island. I had accidentally knocked the throttle to fairly wide open on one of the engines (out of gear). Sure enough, started with a lot of noise, (sounded great) then knock, knock, knock. “Sorry fam, we’re going home”, engine out, strip down etc. Aggggh! 😁 Your new engine sounds sweet. Looking forward to what next year brings. Wishing you and all the fam a great happy and safe Xmas and all the very very best for the new year, Cheers 🍻
Pretty sweet other than having A V8 directly under your junk. Thankfully rod usually go out the bottom. Backfires Are a different Beast altogether though
With max rpm of whqt, 7500 rpm, do you think to hit 100 miles per hour or more, need higher rpm ? Or bigger jet pump, prop ? Or different gear drive ratio ?
@JetSkiBrothers hahaha hell yeah bring it on brother! 🤣 I rode a gp1 with a fully built 1500 and idk if I need to go any faster on a stand up. The hole shot felt like my kawi zx12r with nitrous. Idk what that bad boy feels like with that turbo v8 amd if 90 on a run about feels like 80 on a stamd up but danm thats fast haha
I believe it got water in the engine when the line came off the turbo. It was in there spraying like a fire hose. Any way it has better water separation on the engine ventilation now to help if that situation happens again.
A 2jz would be fun! To be fair, these ls engines have all been from the junkyard with lots of miles on them already. Build an ls with new parts and this shit won’t happen.
For the desire to do something, grade -A. For knowledge of the basic laws of physics, dynamics, hydrodynamics -F. There are small turbo jet engines. Good from a tank) but big.
jesus i was hoping you lit this thing on fire at this point and just kept honing your skills modding any other skis. i have begun to hate this thing on your behalf. i have a 2017 yamaha gp1800 that's blown up during every break in since I bought it. This is your version of the GP1800 lemon that I own. Have i given up on the ski yet? no. like you i am stupid.
@@JetSkiBrothers It was interesting though. Ever wondered what happens if you try to start a pushrod engine with no pushrods in it? Well there you go! lol Thanks.
Dude what about a dorito spinning apparatus in a pwc?? Find an older clapped out Yamaha? We all know if those early 2000s 2 seater wave runners had power they'd have been the best pwc on the market. With a c16 burning, bridgeported 13b and a gtx55 600 gen 4 on a haltech elite 750???? Upgrade to a 2020's GP SVHO jet if possible? Be like "SSSSAAAAAAAADUUUUUDE!!!!!!!!!!" ALL damn day.
setting yourself up for failure by not using a torque wrench....thats probably why it failed in the first place and you still havent learned your lesson....😮

I totally agree! We’re going to keep refining this v8 build and do some other builds too in 2024 👍🍻
This summer is going to be sick for the JetSki brothers!!!
Thank goodness the junkyard always has at least 5 truck ls engines at all times for less than a jet ski engine.
Thanks for telling us about the pushrod mistake! So real. So funny, too.
You are so welcome! I think being real is more important than being cool/right 👍

Nothing like the V8, merry Christmas and big thanks
Thanks, merry Christmas to you too!
Looking good. Way to think ahead and not just toss the aluminum block in there. Well done with the build and well done with the video.
Thanks 👍 I try to think about things sometimes when I get the opportunity. Haha but you know the kids keep me distracted.

What and where does someone come up with a bellhousing gear reduction set up like that??

Very true!
You should put a V8 in one of those little jet boats that people are putting jet ski engines into.
With max rpm of whqt, 7500 rpm, do you think to hit 100 miles per hour or more, need higher rpm ? Or bigger jet pump, prop ? Or different gear drive ratio ?

Are you guys planning on a fx1 build in the future?
Yes 💯

Are those exhaust manifolds just car ones or are they water cooled ?
GF has 8 skis in her back yard, been sitting 14 years... Might have me a rental company soon hah
Hopefully they all run 👍
I love this channel and your builds.
Thanks!
So I got an old Polaris 750SLT with a hole in the middle piston. Any good engine upgrades I can swap in place of the original 3 cylinder?
Hey Josh, Any update on why the bearing failed ? Did you make some mods on the new engine ?
I believe it got water in the engine when the line came off the turbo. It was in there spraying like a fire hose. Any way it has better water separation on the engine ventilation now to help if that situation happens again.
Do the Catalina race next yr!
That would be awesome 👍
How are your neighbours? lol
what spark plugs do you use??
Ngk
glad too see everything working again ,them ls engines make Good power for 5 minutes then break needs a 2jz
