    Can you explain why pigments are numbered? Are pigments just a standard ‘put in’?

    • @ClarkFineArt
      @ClarkFineArt  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pigments are numbered to classify and identify them. They get numbered as they are discovered. The letters classify the “color family” they are in P for pigment then the second letter for the color R-red B-blue Br-brown Bk-black etc. and the number is assigned to differentiate the different pigments within the color family. So PB29 is Pigment Blue 29 or as we usually know it, Ultramarine Blue. They help us identify what is in our paint, as we cannot rely on color names because those are not standardized and manufacturers can name the colors anything they want For example, MaimeriBlu Ultramarine Blue is made with PV15 (Pigment Violet 15) and will look very different than what we expect Ultramarine Blue to look like. Knowing the pigment numbers helps us have a better understanding of what color we can expect to see and if it will be lightfast or not and what results might occur if we mix it with other colors based on the pigments they contain. I hope that answered your question.

    This was a tricky one

      You were seeing the neutralizing but not guessing colors that neutralized each other. Although I wouldn’t have guessed the green and brown to neutralize each other the way they did but it was nice and now I’m wondering what else I could use that are similar to each. I also loved the color I got when I had a little extra green in there at first.

    I have this color from Schmincke, but don't find any use for it. Perhaps if the colors actually seperated out a bit, it would be pretty. What do you use it for? I would have been interested in hearing what the color is useful for.

      I like to use it in landscapes. The dark hue can be used in stormy skies or water. I would also use it in a monochromatic painting as well.

      I use it for sky, water but especially rocks.
