How To Mix A YinMin Blu Hue Monday Mix

  • Some single pigment colors can be a bit pricey! YinMin Blue by QoR is one of them. In this Monday mix, I am showing you how to mix a YinMin Blue hue. When we see a color that contains hue at the end of the name, it is usually a pigment(s) that closely resemble the original color of the same name. We see this a lot with cadmium hues, they don’t actually have the cadmium pigments, but look like them when swatched side by side.
    I hope you find this #Mondaymix useful and one that you will give a try.

    Today I stopped at Hobby Lobby, cause they have W&N in clearance, to pick up tubes of French Ultramarine, Ultramarine Blue, Ultramarine Violet and 1 or 7 others. I have mainly pans and do not buy convivence mixes so I keep some tubes in case I want a convivence mix. I agree it is close to other single pigments that I already own but the tubes were a dollar. I will try it out. Then when I get home some kind soul has gifted me a month membership of this great chanel that I only just discovered.

    Seeing an ultramarine pink color is weird, too use to using ultramarine blue only. This Qor color is so close to ultramarine that I would not even try to match this one you are working on. You really nailed the comparison! Thanks for all,that you do.

      Those are two polar opposites in my opinion. To me W&N barely move and QoR are the fastest movers I have ever painted with. I love QoR the colors are amazing! W&N can have its place too. Either would be a great professional brand to have.

      There are definitely a bunch of beautiful color in W&N, but if you already love Qor, they might bore you a little if you use only one brand. However, Qor will definitely push other paints around, so mixing brands works well…I really love Qor, btw.

    Thanks for this, knowing how close b29v15 is saves me spending a huge amount on yinmn. Would ultramarine deep make your mix any closer? Maimeri b29 deep for example, which is also highly granulating (like the yinmn).

    • @ClarkFineArt
      @ClarkFineArt  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I only have the Maimeri Blu Ultramarine Blue which weirdly is PV15 they also have an Ultramarine Blue Light and Dark which are PB29 and then they have an Ultramarine Violet which is another PV15. Which ones would be the right combo if that is the brand you are mixing with, I can’t say. Hopefully in the future I will get my hands on at least a half pan to try them out and compare.

    Ok, I now know how to mixed this extremely expensive color…where would I use it? Do you have any real life examples? Don’t know if you can add a link or if you have a blog…I’ve always liked Ultramarine Violet as well as French Ultramarine. I've stayed away from PB 15 as I just didn’t quite know how to use it. Thank you for this color mixing suggestion…I really could see how it is mixed😊.

      I am in the process of updating a website that would have more information to supplement videos but at this time no, more info is not on a blog. I just got the color so I have not painted with it, however I would use it like I would use Ultramarine and for the ultramarine violet I thing it works great in landscapes. Think fields of distant purple flowers, ad ultramarine violet and instant distant landscape texture. That's just one example of how I would use the color. Adding it to a neutral tint I create myself and it would help create texture for rocks in a landscape. I hope that helps get the creative ideas flowing of how they could be used. I will reach for ultramarine colors and payne's gray or neutral tints for stormy skies also.

      @ClarkFineArt I do have YinMin from A Gallo but haven't opened it yet. (The Precious! Lol ) On the monitor, when I've seen it swatched, there appears to me a slight indigo hint in it. I definitely agree it's like a deeper redder ultramarine overall. I'm going to try PB15:1, just a tiny touch, or maybe a bit of neutral tint to deepen the overall mix. Or possibly Black11 as it would accentuate the granulation. I 'll let you know how I get on. Xx

    I have said pigment PB89 and I found it to be very similar to PB29 with a subtle difference. I think it's splitting hairs and unless you are a pigment nerd, is anyone really going to recognize this pigment on a painting? I would seriously doubt it.

    • @ClarkFineArt
      @ClarkFineArt  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would agree it is very similar to Ultramarine Blue. It doesn’t take much Ultramarine Violet at all to shift the Ultramarine Blue to look like the PB89 YinMin blue. The average person may not know the difference but an artist looking at the two side by side would pick up on the difference in the hues, but just observing a painting would someone be able to look and recognize which one had YinMin blue I don’t know, possibly not.
