- Rates of return - holding period return, arithmetic and geometric mean (for the @CFA Level 1 exam) explores the mechanics and logic behind three return rate measures:
- the holding period retun (HPR),
- arithmetic mean return, and
- geometric mean return.
This video explores topics covered in Lesson 3, Learning Module 1 of the Quantitative Methods section of the 2024 CFA Level 1 Curriculum.
Thank you very much. I highly recommend this channel. Lessons are clear and straightforward. A tip : shortcut for calculating the root of N is to raise to the power of N/x (i.e you press Yx button than N than 1/x button). All the best!
Thank you very much for the recommendation and the tip👍
Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your explanations and how you break down every topics is making my CFA journey much easier.
Wow, thank you! This is a lovely comment to read first thing in the morning!
Such great explanations Wojciech, exactly what I was looking for. Your lessons help so much more with understanding rather than simply memorizing. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your feedback!
I highly recommend this channel for all those who are studying for CFA L1 exam. Helped me a lot. The format really worked for me - direct hits to testable concepts. Wish you had the material for L2!

Hello, I just started my exam on 18 Feb 2025 you are helping me so much just one question are the videos in order of the curriculum? and do you cover all of the topics?
How can I join the members please and access all content, please?
You should see a Join button when viewing on a computer.
I regret buying Kaplan. He makes it so much easier.
do you do private tutoring for the exam?
Thanks for reaching out. No, unfortunately I don’t provide tutoring
Can I know why are we multiplying the yearly returns in Holding period and geometric return?
Can you please tell me which moment in the video your question relates to?
The thing is at 17:12 you wrote the formula for geometric return.
I couldn't understand the formula properly like why do we need to multiply the returns and then doing the n times root?
Ok, I see. Well, this is just how it works mathematicallly. I’m not sure if I can really justify the logic behind it, except that this is the way it works😀
@@letmeexplaincfa okay thankyou
Hi, how do become a join this channel as a member to get access to members only contents?
You should see a button labelled Join on the channel page:
th-cam.com/users/intlen_uk/join/
Sorry, I still can’t find ‘join’ button in the channel page…
Ok, this may be due to the country from which you are trying to join not being on the list: support.google.com/youtube/answer/6307365?hl=en#zippy=%2Cpremium-memberships-available-locations
Of locations where paid services are available😔
I’m trying to join from the UK. I can see ‘join’ button for other channels but not this one…
I see, this is from the YT support page:
The Join button currently does not appear on most enabled channels on iOS inside the TH-cam app. Try joining from another non-iOS device or opening the channel page in a web browser.
Could this be the problem? You should definitely be able to join from the UK
How to become channels member?
Hi, you should see a Join button on the channel homepage if you view it using a computer (it does not typically show on a phone)
Hey there, I'm a CFA aspirant who has just finished their high school, I'm about to give college entrance exams (I have 0.1% of getting into a great one) so rather than wasting time on it much I'm thinking to start preparing for the L1 of CFA or FRM, my questions are
1)Is 1 year enough for the CFA L1, I've been told that it is more than enough so in that case qould you recommend to start preparing for L2 also are the schweser notes good enough?
2)Ive been told by a CFA L3 candidate that they regret doing CFA because it has been losing its value over the years cuz the exam used to be 1 time a year now its multiple times many people can get the designation now and blah blah how much does all of it stand true?
Hi, thank you very much for the message.
1) yes, one year should be enough and yes, schweser is a great resource at all levels.
2) I think most professional qualifications have become a little easier over time (this alos includes accountancy qualifications like the ACCA), however, the CFA is still the prime investment qualification you can find on the market.
@@letmeexplaincfa Thanks for the tip, I'll be starting to study for CFA in 3-4 months from now.
@@HARSH-uu9og Great! I hope this channel will help you with your studies!
