You're the man Anthony. 90% of the cosplay and prop people out there are doing fantasy stuff. You, sir, are the guy that us sci fi people flock to. Same boat as you. When out at a dollar store or thrift shop I'm looking at shapea that would be cool.... even with a 3d printer. I think the pop rivet thing from Harbor Freight is under $10. That should work for the attaching instead of the screws.... got me wondering how the aesthetic of it would look now. You're freaking awesome for getting the creative juices flowing.
@@createscifi there are a few variables you'll need to look at before hand. Basic one is resin or filament, as with any type of tool there are pros and cons to both. Either way you have to tinker with them. Tom Tullis has a few good videos on assembly of the Ender 3 if you're going to go with filament. I know there are a few popular resin and filament models. If you go with one of the popular kinds there is a huge amount of community support
I don't know why this was recommended to me, but I am glad it was. Your channel shows that we can all be hobbyist prop makers/modelers/cosplayers without spending much money. Creativity > money. Oh, and it's called conduit.
Your Channel was suggested after I watch some mainstream VFX videos. Your channel has been more helpful than any of them. You are seriously crafty man. Keep it up! Thanks.
Lucky me, I have a Goodwill Warehouse Center not far away! Where they offload Semitrucks and sort the merchandise. Then they bring out 5 foot by 10 foot blue plastic wheeled carts! Everyone stands by (wearing gloves) and waits until the Goodwill employees say "GO"! Then the pawing and sorting begins. Unbelievable finds are available. I have so many plastic bins full of greeblies and vacuum hoses in my Shop! I really enjoyed your show and just subscribed, good luck!
Hi Anthony. Jack here. I think that I can speak for a lot of other creative people out there when I say that it's a privilege learning the tricks of the trade from your videos. You definitely inspired the way that I went about building one of my scifi soldier Halloween costumes a few years ago. Thanks for the great advice. I won 1st prize at party with it. Everyone was impressed. I hoarded away a few funky nerf guns with your projects in mind and I can't wait for my next build. Keep up the great work man!
I know a trick from model painting you might find useful. Try using floor wax finish on the lenses on the outside of the lenses with tinting on the inside. That gives a clear gloss coat that mimics the UV protection shine you mention. Let dry under a hard cover like a cardboard box, to prevent dust from adhering to the surface while the flooring finish dries. It also gives a great protection from scratches and is extremely durable. It is meant to be walked on after all.
I know it's an old video but Dayum(!) I love you so much! That laugh and positive vibe gets me smiling everytime! Been doing some painting myself, I'm not good I just love tinkering with it. I did Leia's gun and a Clone trooper rifle I found online and it was white and orange and I had to get the paint to stick to it and cover up all screws and seams. Painted it, sanding it off, painted it again followed your video on how to add scratches and make it look dirty/worn and YESS it worked out Great! The learning process is a long one but when it finally comes together.. True happiness! Never stop being You and keep on it, brother! 😊
I dig the toothpaste method. Have you ever done the water method? Use a spray bottle to sprits water on before you spray paint. It gives it a really cool oxidation look you can definitely create some interesting rust effects with it
when he first added the primer and made the helmet silver I got some serious black sabbath never say die album cover vibes. it's that aviation helmet/ futuristic weirdness that I love about that album cover which has been perfectly recreated with the helmet after the primer faze. 12:12
Love your style and methodology! Have been doing the same "prop building" since the late 70s myself and costumes as well, wayyy before the term "cosplay" came to be.
First video I watch of your channel and I must say, you are refreshing. I can hear/ see the enjoyment in your work. So far, you are keeping it simple and enjoyable with everyday diy’ers. IMO keep doing what you are doing!
Someday I will have the time to do this scratch modeling. IMHO It is much more creative than modeling a boxed model. Amazing stuff you do there man !!. Inspirational !.
Hi Ant!! Love the stuff you've been doing. Watching this I thought that if someone was going to reboot UK 70s sci-fi show Blake's Seven this would be the new Federation Trooper helmet!!!
I'm totally going to do this build, but with red LEDs inside, dim ones, just under the lenses on the inside. Maybe even pull apart some of those LED tea light candles. The end result will be a fallout NCR trooper helmet
Nice. I helped out a friend of a friend who works on a stage crew for a small play group and makes all there props with stuff thay find and it looks good. I told him about your youtube channel.
My late brother started weathering model cars he would take old steel wool cut it into small pieces and let it sit in a jar of water for a week or 2 then let the water evaporate then he'd apply with flat clear like rust glitter his end result was a subject that was plastic that would still rust
Little tip I learnt , for rust and weathering , drip superglue on to the model then crack some sea salt on to the glue , yellow and red dry brush over it then clear coat
I was wondering this too?. Does he buy several extras of each piece so he can replicate it. Or even to have spares in case something breaks during filming.
But can you get it on your head? I’ve used basic open face motor cycle helmets, bought from garage sales, as my base for my creations. I’ve then used foam core and picture frame matte boards for my forms and details. My creations were to represent helmets used in the “mech” shows like Gundam and Robotech. That said, they were made back in the late 80’s - the adhesives and other plastic stuff wasn’t as available then, or at least, there were not the hobby stores/dollar stores around like now.
some of those weathering techniques really made me cringe lol, but I just wanted to say the modelling work especially is pretty fantastic. Doing great work with these videos!
Can you please do a tutorial on how to do an astronaut helmet? I purchased one but i want a more unique look. It looks easy enough but I'm just not sure how to go about it. I'd love to see you do a tutorial on this

The Nuclear SNail Facebook page would fuckin' LOVE this. Def consider posting there.

Looking around to convert an old Darth Vader helmet into a cyberpunk helmet. You gave me some great ideas!

Poly moulding clay would work great on projects like this to close gaps.
Awesome work...love your passion...I'm writing a sci-short film and will implement some of your techniques...thanks
I love to hear that !
I made a post apocalyptic helmet from a motorcycle helmet licence plate and spark plugs and little gears to accentuate it
All happy...
Found a video I missed, lol!

Love it.I am doing a space helmet but decided to go with fiber glass.
Just found this channel. This totally ruled!
Such a wicked build!! Yah man!!!
Damn, good work! Makes me want to do fun stuff like this and it's crazy how bits and pieces coming together can look really cool in the long run.
Im getting ready for atomic falls. Your videos are so helpful. I love to custom make things. Your are so very helpful and Im so very greatful.
I just love your videos. I wanna do a Kabal cosplay from mortal kombat and your tutorials and tips are just perfect! thank you very much
This looks very reminiscent of a New California Republic Trooper helmet for like a special division of sorts.
I like that toothpaste technique. Great end results with all the steps put in a clear, yet quick, order.
Best yet IMO! Great!
Just found your channel and im loving the kit bashing

As always, fantastic work. I never tire of your creative process.
You sir are very talented
It's like a suped-up NCR Desert Ranger helmet.

Love your creativity.
Looks great mate, thanks for the toothpaste tip!

Little tip I learnt , for rust and weathering , drip superglue on to the model then crack some sea salt on to the glue , yellow and red dry brush over it then clear coat
I’ve waited so long for this! Maybe I’ll get the chance to throw it together before the holiday
YEs! I was very busy these past few weeks but the real-time to build this prob 2 days

It’s for filming
I want to make something like this now.

man i love to hear that !
awesome stuff!!
You should buy a blackmagic 4K cinema camera
Brilliant
Ever thought about maybe adding some kind of label, such as a 'warning' or a unit designation with a hand template mate? Love this design!
Yes! i did but ran out of time but was thinking about decals for sure. Good call
@@createscifi Good stuff man!
Have you had any challenges duplicating projects? I figure with a helmet that's meant for a trooper you would want to make more than one.
I was wondering this too?. Does he buy several extras of each piece so he can replicate it. Or even to have spares in case something breaks during filming.
Do you sell your products
Antenna would've been cool on it. Plural, more antennas. Awesome job though.
I realized as this ended... I wanted to see it on your headbone. Always leave em wanting more... 🤖🎛
