I saw this as a child, alone in a room, in the dark, before bed (fell asleep once it ended to be lifted and brought to bed, tells you how small I was) and have scoured for this film for years to finally take the plunge and ask reddit, thought i might get somone who knew at some point… somone replied in a few hours to someone agreeing its what i saw and this is it. i have had nightnare upon strange dream around this film but never thought I’d work out the name, let alone find the film or get to see it now from my adult eyes! This video has been the cherry on top to finish this day of all emotions at once… i’m taken back to that kid once more!👀😵💫🤯
Man I appreciate this comment so much. Im so happy that I could add to the experience. I made this video to be a documentation of the existence of this film for any of the very few people out there that understood how beautiful and important this film is. Thank you for the comment dude.
This film means so much to me. I rented it from Hollywood video when I wasn’t much younger than Helena, i loved books, and drawing, and after watching it over and over again I created my own world on my bedroom walls. This film helped shape and define the woman I am today, and it means so much to learn more about its creation and explains why I love this movie to this day. Thank you so much for researching and explaining this wonderful work of art.
For a long while this was my favorite movie. I would listen to the soundtrack all the time. I would play Close to You on repeat I loved it so much. Thank you for bringing it to people’s attention!
I needed this video so bad. My heart feels SO good listening to someone talk personal, and actual fact about this movie. My mother whom I no longer have in my life, gave this movie to me when i was a child. She knew very well I would cherish it, and I do hold it so dearly and so fondly. Not many things make me feel as good/happy as this movie, the labyrinth and the dark crystal do. Thank yoU SO SO SO much for this AMAZING video. P.S The ending montage made me SOB. Beautiful!
I somehow managed to find this on dvd in texas of all places in a full Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, and Mirror Mask dvd set! I was actually first exposed to this from my art teacher in middle school years ago and managed to track down the movie on TH-cam at the time! All cut up into multiple parts I’m glad to see some love for it!
First, the smirking cat in the toilet was just the best thing ever. I got a strangely cut version of this film as part of a 3 movie DVD in a bargain bin at walmart for $6, it also has the Dark Crystal and Labrynth on it. The version I have has all of the circus content cut out, it just appears to be an angsty teen with a cool bedroom having a conflict with her sick parent, then the rest of the movie is complete. I only found this out because right now the movie is free on yt, but anyway I didn't find the full length version to be a great improvement. Great outsider film and inspiring for artists.
Now, as an adult, living in Brighton, I'm completely shocked to suddenly recognise the piers in the background of the shot with her Father stretching out into the sea. I never noticed!
I used to have this movie on dvd, but it was lost when we moved. Every year I would go searching the internet for it to no avail, that is until a few days ago. I couldn't believe that I found it on TH-cam for free, and now Stardust is as well (in case anyone wanted to know).
I can't even begin to describe how much this film means to me. It shaped my childhood and to this day I have no idea where my mom found the dvd of it back in the day as we live in the US but I'm so infinitely thankful that I've held onto it over the years and across many moves. Thank you so much for making this to share (:
God I loved this film. I watched it over and over again, right along with Labrynth and Dark Crystal. I was a Henson kid. Gaiman was (and still is) my favorite author growing up. His touch is definitely seen and felt in this film. I'd kill for a copy of it now, I miss it. It was creepy and clever and just beautiful. Also, side note - has anyone listened to the album "Where's Neil When You Need Him?" It has a couple of amazing songs dedicated to/about this, my favorite being Wake The White Queen by the Cruxshadows.
Just going to say I thought I was going crazy, thanks to you I can finally confirme that this is the movie I watched a shit tone when I was a kid "like a crazy amount of times" I would go with my mom and always ask her to rent this movie untill she finally got freaked out on how much I liked this movie. Also just wow love your videos man just found you through TH-cam's algorithm
Man that's so awesome. I'm really glad I could bring this film back to your attention. One of my favorite experiences as an adult is going "What in the hell was that one movie I was obsessed with when I was five years old again?" and then finding it and getting to relive the experience. Always so surreal. And I know a lot of people out there had this experience with MirrorMask. Man thank you so much for watching my videos.
WOW, that's amazing news! I highly doubt I had anything to do with it, but that is genuinely amazing. You know what? I'm just going to take credit for it.
I NEVER forgot about this movie because the soundtrack and the visuals were just so unique and striking. I am of the thought that this film was relatively safe from obscurity because Neil Gaiman is a visionary in surreal fantasy. Althoughit would be nice to see more streaming services adopt this film, I am sure this film will always have a place in out timeline and there will be at least someone who keeps taking about it online (like you :D)
I love this movie! My family got the DVD of it way back when it was released because we were such big fans of labyrinth and dark crystal, and hearing that it's so hard to find makes me happy that we held onto our copy. I hope others are able to find it!
I remember renting this movie from blockbuster as a kid and watching it 3 times in one weekend. I just rewatched it free, right here on TH-cam, a few weeks ago. I can tell what grabbed me as a kid. I was a budding artist and the movie is about a kid surviving in the world that she herself created through art. It was as "made for me" as a movie could be at the time it came out.
Just saw it for the first time tonight after going through a rabbit hole of researching “artist of Batman: Arkham Asylum comic” aaaaand my god do I have a new favorite artist. I am genuinely shocked for how well not only the acting is, but just the style and how it gels so well with the script, giving such a unique feeling. The script itself is just * *chef’s kiss* * with the dialogue being cute and honestly really funny at certain parts, and the characters are so interesting… and TERRIFYING I LOVE IT!! This is the kind of fantasy I’ve been wanting, something different. I don’t need there to be another Tolkien flavored adventure story with the same basic premise, style and feel. This film is why I ADORE the Dark Crystal, it’s a Fantasy that creates its own feel and style. The creatures are eerie and slowly you get use to it to find that they’re really beautiful nonetheless. I also loved how it dealt with stories and writing in general, having really funny “riddle” sections and having books that have conscious thoughts and feelings… without needing to say a single word. I don’t know, I found a new favorite and I’m FORCING EVERYONE I KNOW TO WATCH. A loooot will get turned off, but man, I wanna help make this a cult classic.
Man, what a comment! I'm so happy to read things like this! When I was in college my best friend said " the dark Crystal is such an amazing movie" and I watched it and immediately did research on the production company and found mirror mask. These types of films should be cherished. The dark crystal, Labyrinth and Mirrormask should all be considered cult classics. I'm glad I could facilitate your experience!!
@@congratsbro. for sure man and great video! Honestly I’m trying to stop procrastinating and work on my own type of story that’s been inspired by these types of stories because maaan there’s so much potential. (I remember being fascinated by In Praise of Shadows’s “Return to Oz is an Absolute Nightmare” and THAT film’s really incredible fantasy setting, as well as things like “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen” and I don’t know, I’m rambling, I just think there’s lots of potential :)
Hey man! My favorite is something I consider a hidden gem, and I've never seen anyone cover it on youtube before. I watch it at least once a year, and learn something new every single time. It's in Shakespearian, and you really do end up catching something you might have missed the first 20 times you watch it haha. Have you ever seen Titus with Anthony Hopkins? I feel like it's so underrated and needs to be covered.
I'm commenting kinda prematurely since I'm only 10 minutes into the video, but wow yeah, thanks TH-cam for recommending this, and thank you for making this video. I saw Mirrormask on the TV maybe around 10 years back, then found the DVD at a flea market, aaand since then I've watched it whenever it's my birthday (has turned into a bit of a tradition). The movie has such a mystical vibe to it I can't explain, and some parts are very unintentional ASMR to me, espeeecially the "Close to you" scene and the next 5-ish minutes afterwards with no dialogue - tho said ASMR vibe also goes for some of the soundtrack. Wish more people knew of the movie like you much said around the start of this, so difficult to recommend properly when the DVD is the only way to watch it.
I KNEW THIS MOVIE WAS A THING! I barely remember watching it on TV but in Spanish (cuz I'm mexican) and being so intrigued and a little bit creeped out by it, but I loved the art and style of the movie. Luckily I was able to find a copy on eBay for $7 in the US, but you can find it online in the Spanish dub typing in "mirror mask película completa en español". Loved this video too, and I never knew it was a Jim Henson film.
Fantastic video! Mirrormask is one of my most favourite movies and I was obsessed with it as a kid. Something reminded my sister of it recently and we rewatched it together earlier in the year. Such a fever dream of a movie. I loved learning more about it, thank you for sharing!
The best film ever made. Your sincerity & passion do it such justice, incredible work. (also I've seen this movie countless times and never caught the Queen's palace was Embassy Court so thanks for that!)
This movie introduced me to Neil Gaimen and revolutionized the way i see what is possible with film making. Just because you know and love this film makes you deel like a very old friend. No ome quite gets this film the way i do in my life and it makws me incredibly sad. Thank you so so very much for all the fun facts. This like the film is a gem. Thank you!!!!
I was born in 2001 and I have no idea why but we had this on dvd and I was always so obsessed with it for me entire childhood. I used to watch it so much it has had a critical part in forming my adult personality
I wish I could just upload my digital copy of it online for everyone to see for free, but i gotta support the creators and hope my viewers pay for it. Even if its an unfortunately hefty price. This team deserves the money honestly.
Thank you for covering this lost gem, this is a movie that has stayed in my top favorites since I saw it nearly a decade ago as an art college student. Now I need to watch it again, I need to dig it out from its resting spot.
I watched Mirrormask with a friend in perhaps 2016 and the transformation scene with the eerie 'close to you' cover has been living in my head rent free ever since. Seriously can't listen to any other version now... Great film, such a shame it faded into almost-obscurity!
This is my favorite movie of all times. I dont know why but I love it. I manage to download it and I have the file and I am scared to lose it so I have like 4 copies in different places to make sure I dont lose it. It was nice to hear you know so much information about it. and everything you explained. Thank you for making this video!
I remember when I was younger my father rented this film, yeah I was living in Venezuela at the time and I still don’t know how especially that video store had that film, since then I forgot about the movie but I recently found it on my recommendations tab on TH-cam lol
Wow, a movie I've never seen. Good job dude, gonna check it out. Been so long I forgot I subbed to this channel. May the Gods of furious strong be with you in pursuits of great Justice.

i had to watch this film a few times before i loved it... im not a fan of jazz but it won me over. just really astonishing how it gets in your head. the soundtrack, screenplay, filming, and effects are all incredible. and ive shown it to a few people too. i didnt know it was a labyrinth sequel.
had my copy for 13 years now, pretty sure my life would be completely different if I never watched it, this video was great defiantly gave me a new appreciation to my all-time favourite movie its a shame they priced it so much in the USA since its $5-$25 on amazon in Europe
Absolutely fell in love with this movie when I first saw it! Owned a copy for years before it I lent it and never got it back. Appears to now be on Prime Video though!
I'm so happy I found this video! I love this movie and actually have the DVD for it. I found it in a Walmart several years ago in a 3 for 1 with Labyrinth and Dark Crystal. I never knew the gem I had. (For anyone desperate to watch this, TH-cam has the digital version)
Makes me glad I have a copy on DVD! I found out about it in school, going through a Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean obsession after reading Sandman, and I'm pretty sure I paid pennies for the DVD at the time. Definitely nothing like $60!
this video is all i've been looking for And i am more than amazed knowing there are someone who reviewed this movie with such a very great details, along with informations, clips (that i didn't even know they're exist!) and trivia, this video fill my thirst of curiosity over my most favorite childhood movie. Indeed the movie feels dreamy and hard to find, so does with the movie review. Knowing you're reviewing this, gosh i'm in love
I’m so delighted to see a video on mirror mask. I grew up watching the dark crystal and the labyrinth so when I found out about mirror mask I was thrilled. I used to borrow the dvd from my public library and watched it over and over again. It’s wonderful to see that other people love this movie too
I found this movie after reading American Gods and tracking down Neil Gaiman's projects. It was my "head's too full, just need to get lost" escape for years. I still have a DVD kicking around somewhere.
This movie was fundamental in my art and music taste and a nostalgic favorite. If anyone is searching for it, I have found it several times through public library systems, and it can be ordered if your branch doesn’t have it. I was lucky enough to find a cheap dvd for sale a while ago and treasure it
I grew up with this movie and watched it all the time. my dad has the dvd and i have seen no one talk about it. i almost thought i was making it up because it was so wacky! great video.
my taste of music and movies shifted after watching this movie. this is my favoriteeee movie and I'm so happy to see someone appreciate it as much as i do! thank you so much for taking the time to make this
Hey man, Great video. I was in animation school when this came out and it was an EVENT among my friends and me. I have it on DVD so I'm set in that respect tho I haven't watched it in years. I love this movie tho and I am glad you talked about it. If you want another movie that sort of feels like it could be lumped in with that sort of scrappy little indie fantasy genre, check out the film INK 2008 or 09... not sure. The themes and story are very different (fatherhood and self forgiveness) but it has a sort of dream like other world through the looking glass vibe as well.
My mother and I found a DVD to this in like 2008 and loved it. My mother was a huge Labyrinth fan before this and later I found out about Dark Crystal.
Thank you so much for taking the time and care to talk about this movie! Its one of my all time favourites! Loved your video from start to finish!!
I have 2 copies of Mirrormask on dvd, i bought another when i temporarily misplaced my original one. I couldnt live without it 😂😂 This is probably one of my most favourite films ❤
I picked the book adaptation of this movie up on a whim, and now I’ve watched the movie here on TH-cam and I’m gonna listen to the audiobook next, I really like the atmosphere and music and art direction of the movie
growing up i saw this movie in bits and pieces as it was shown on cable TV, probably a few years after 2005, and was completely obssessed with it. also the first movie i ever torrented once i got a bit older because i could not find it anywhere lol
Neil Gaiman had a hand in this? Man, this makes so much sense. I used to have a DVD witht that movie and wish I'd kept it. It's a great story, it deserved so much more love.

As a now adult watching mirrormask, this movie STILL makes me want to create a world on my walls and I'm 28 lmao, amazing movie
For a long while this was my favorite movie. I would listen to the soundtrack all the time. I would play Close to You on repeat I loved it so much. Thank you for bringing it to people’s attention!
Hey it was my pleasure! And thank you for watching and commenting!
This is the kind of movie I would have loved as a kid… and then nobody would know what movie I was talking about.
It's free on youtube right now!!
can i have the link
The music in this film deserves a video all unto itself.
I saw this movie when I was a kid, and it came back to me through fragmented memories recently. So trippy. Epic movie!
All cut up into multiple parts
I’m glad to see some love for it!
The movie is free to watch on TH-cam!! I just watched it :)
MirrorMask has always been a favorite of mine growing up! I’m surprised people actually know about. I still have a dvd copy of it too! :)
Dude hang on to it. I'm pretty sure they aren't making new copies. Thanks for the comment!
Now, as an adult, living in Brighton, I'm completely shocked to suddenly recognise the piers in the background of the shot with her Father stretching out into the sea. I never noticed!
It's also set in the 1930s Embassy building on the seafront, near the Angel of Peace statue, from where you can also see the piers.
I love Mirror Mask!
Lustrzana maska jeden z ciekawszych tytułów polecam ten film na prawdę warto obejżeć👍👏
Neil Gaiman just reblogged a link to this. I suspect you're going to get a lot of well deserved views.
You are criminally underrated
Hey thank you so much man! I honestly really appreciate it. More content coming.
i absolutely love this movie... i wanted to watch it with so many people, have been looking for it for ages...
It’s available on TH-cam for free with adds if you’re wanting to watch it. I highly recommend it!
You did it! It's now available to rent and buy in TH-cam!
Love to see someone talking about this movie, we had it on dvd and it really defined my childhood
Given the budget and time, I think the effects are amazing. It’s really is a forgotten gem.
Mirror Mask is one of my favorites. I love rewatching.
Such a beautiful film. Such an underrated classic.
Thanks for reviewing.
Dude Ill definitely look into that. Thanks for the suggestion.
it was a child hood memory
I believe I watched in Spanish as a child too and couldn’t find this for years
Fantastic video!
Finally people catch on to this masterpiece 🙌🏼
Glad your back bro, I found your Wilfred, watched the whole thing and was so tired when I went to work I dropped a whole burger in a fryer.
Hahaha, bro that's awesome. I hope you didn't get in trouble lol. Thanks for watching bro
Great vid!
One of my favorite movies as a kid, glad to see it getting some attention.
love this film. still have an old pirate version. somewhere
I wish I could just upload my digital copy of it online for everyone to see for free, but i gotta support the creators and hope my viewers pay for it. Even if its an unfortunately hefty price. This team deserves the money honestly.
Another fantastic video.
I love Gaiman and McKean's collaborations, but somehow never heard of this film.
I'll have to hunt it down now.
Thank you! Great to hear. I hope you enjoy it
been more than a decade since i watched this and yesterday it just came back to me in a dream lol. this movie is a hidden gem
i gotta bookmark this cuz i remember LOVING mirror mask and have et to hear ANYONE mention it since
Well I really hope you like my take on the film. Great to see that other people actually know about it. Thanks for the comment!
Nice man. Yeah this movie definitely deserves way more recognition. Its honestly sad
Wow, a movie I've never seen. Good job dude, gonna check it out. Been so long I forgot I subbed to this channel. May the Gods of furious strong be with you in pursuits of great Justice.
Sweet! Thanks man
As of 2024, Mirrormask is available for free on TH-cam.
U deserve to be recognized bro. I really hope u prosper. Love the video
Thank you dude! If I wasn't so busy all the time id probably make a video every couple weeks but since I take so long, the algorithm sort of forgets about me. Maybe one day.
i had to watch this film a few times before i loved it... im not a fan of jazz but it won me over. just really astonishing how it gets in your head. the soundtrack, screenplay, filming, and effects are all incredible. and ive shown it to a few people too. i didnt know it was a labyrinth sequel.
had my copy for 13 years now, pretty sure my life would be completely different if I never watched it, this video was great defiantly gave me a new appreciation to my all-time favourite movie its a shame they priced it so much in the USA since its $5-$25 on amazon in Europe
I love the vibes 2005 to 2007 looked with gloomyness i still love it now
I have this on DVD and I love it and I watch it from time to time 💕
This film means so much for me!!! Thank you ❤❤❤
Absolutely fell in love with this movie when I first saw it!
I remember watching mirrormask a hundred times back in 2005
Makes me glad I have a copy on DVD! I found out about it in school, going through a Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean obsession after reading Sandman, and I'm pretty sure I paid pennies for the DVD at the time. Definitely nothing like $60!
great video i didnt realise my dad was actually in it!
Really? who was he??

And i am more than amazed knowing there are someone who reviewed this movie with such a very great details, along with informations, clips (that i didn't even know they're exist!) and trivia, this video fill my thirst of curiosity over my most favorite childhood movie. Indeed the movie feels dreamy and hard to find, so does with the movie review. Knowing you're reviewing this, gosh i'm in love
This review prompted me to go buy the film. I wasnt aware of its existence and I wasn't disappointed thanks
I’m so delighted to see a video on mirror mask. I grew up watching the dark crystal and the labyrinth so when I found out about mirror mask I was thrilled. I used to borrow the dvd from my public library and watched it over and over again. It’s wonderful to see that other people love this movie too
I bought it on dvd from a movie rental store for like
I found this movie after reading American Gods and tracking down Neil Gaiman's projects. It was my "head's too full, just need to get lost" escape for years. I still have a DVD kicking around somewhere.
this is my fave movie ever!!!! its now up for rent or buy on youtube!!! im glad to see this video
Here! Ready, getting popcorn
Sweet!!
I love that movie so much. I'm fortunate enough to have purchased a copy on DVD for $20 I think. It didn't deserve to be ignored the way it was.
This movie was fundamental in my art and music taste and a nostalgic favorite. If anyone is searching for it, I have found it several times through public library systems, and it can be ordered if your branch doesn’t have it. I was lucky enough to find a cheap dvd for sale a while ago and treasure it
I grew up with this movie and watched it all the time. my dad has the dvd and i have seen no one talk about it. i almost thought i was making it up because it was so wacky! great video.
my taste of music and movies shifted after watching this movie. this is my favoriteeee movie and I'm so happy to see someone appreciate it as much as i do! thank you so much for taking the time to make this
Of course, and thank you for the sweet comment! I love reading comments like this
Hey man, Great video.
This movie is now on TH-cam for free!
my favorite movie from kindergarten. a year ago, I specifically found and revised it. it was worth it.
My mother and I found a DVD to this in like 2008 and loved it. My mother was a huge Labyrinth fan before this and later I found out about Dark Crystal.
Thank you so much for taking the time and care to talk about this movie! Its one of my all time favourites! I rented it randomly when I was younger at a blockbuster store and it was an amazing experience. I got it on dvd not long after that so I'm grateful I get to rewatch it whenever I want. Loved your video from start to finish!!
I've been trying to remember this movie for way too long. Thank you 😊
No problem at all. Glad I could help
all three are on my shelf and wen it came out got the dvd as soon as was available. so I agree with you.
I remember watching this at a museum with my dad when I was a kid
It's crazy all the obscure movies out there and this is the one nobody I know, knows
Found your channel recently and have been really loving it!
Hey thank you so much!
Another great video. Will check out this movie for sure.
Thank you so much!
Oh wow, I have this on DVD! Love the film.
growing up i saw this movie in bits and pieces as it was shown on cable TV, probably a few years after 2005, and was completely obssessed with it. also the first movie i ever torrented once i got a bit older because i could not find it anywhere lol
You can find it here on TH-cam

Neil Gaiman had a hand in this? Man, this makes so much sense. I used to have a DVD witht that movie and wish I'd kept it. It's a great story, it deserved so much more love.
