Nekros is a classic! First introduced on Update 10, this necromancer has seen it all and has been apart of many loot farms for almost 10 years. Nekros is a fan favourite and its no surprise as to why he's considered one of the best warframes right now, but was that always the case on his release? Today we explore the dark arts of this warrior and see what Nekros is all about.

ALSO Some of you may be wondering as to why some details were missed, like what about that Oxium farm with Nekros? Or what about that event farm with Nekros? Or what about Nekros in this endless mission farming materials? Well If I were to go through EVERY event and farm with Nekros this video would be a lot longer than it already is, Nekros was good for just about everything farm related and I thought it would be boring if I delved into literally every single farm for him. And second, why didn't I cover the dozens of melee changes? Well Nekros could still split body parts so I didn't feel like spending time talking about how they updated melee again and again when a core mechanic to Desecrate still worked. Thanks for understanding!

As an ancient Nekros main of 5k+ hours in Warframe I must say I really did enjoy this video, this video felt almost personal the way you took a deep dive to the history I played through and experienced firsthand.
Though it might have been only my personal experience, but you keep calling Nekros a decent warframe many times before his latest buffs, which in my personal experience is not what the community thought of him AT ALL.
If it wasn't a farm for new resources, rare drops, or survival, you had to fight tooth and nail to be able to bring Nekros to any sort of group, I still remember when I had to argue with the Law Of Retribution host for 20 minutes to let me bring Nekros, only for the whole team to be surprised that when people failed the shockplate room, I was tossing people on their feet left right and center with Soul Survivor.
Though on the other hand I also had very positive interactions throughout the years for being the designated Nekros. One of my clanmates who still plays to this day, was the greedy pull Mag and I was the Nekros when we met on Draco years back.
I also would like to give some insight on few painpoints in Nekros's history and in current day you didn't mention.
First there was about 1-2 year gap after plains of eidolon (if memory serves correctly) where shadows of the dead refused to spawn eximi units, this was a sizeable hidden nerf to SOTD as even before the eximus rework they were substantially more tanky than regular units, and some units like leech scorches could self sustain themselves basically forever with their passive lifesteal.
Another SOTD related hidden nerf came with the rework where his shades were capped to 7, before this update ancient healers could revive bleeding team mates, including nekros, so shield of shadows was actually not really a needed augment as you could basically have free self revives as long as you took care of your healer ancient.
(Mind you this was a feature well before things like Soul Survivor or Vazarin quick revives trough focus)
Another unfortunate feature that was removed in more recent times was the ability to create shadow fighters in Railjack missions which was quite nice to have your own small minifeet protecting your ship, this also worked for inactive dargyns in plains of eidolon which allowed you to create shadow dargyns your team could fly with.
*As for more recent painpoints of Nekros*
You already did mention that Nekros is a high maintenance frame, maybe the biggest one in the game, and that is true, not only are mods like Despoil/Creeping terrify hard to pass which takes up precious modspace which Nekros needs desperately, Nekros also is one of the rare few frames in 2023 that has the archaic system of ''max units affected'' on terrify and its completely unnecessary.
Terrify itself is also one of the few abilities in current day Warframe that can actually slowdown missions as the enemies in missions like defense run to the far ends of the map and stay there out of reach from most of your teams arsenal.
Another issue with Nekros today is that leech eximi lifesteal does not work on other eximus units if they have their own overguard on, which is quite annoying as leech eximi can perma sustain themselves and nearby shadows on endless modes, which negates having to worry about things like duration and recasting SOTD.
But if you have any other eximi units summoned they block the incoming healing from friendly leeches, and the skill naturally focuses on eximi units as shadow candidates.
Another issue with Nekros simply is that his ulti is a skill that makes you compete against your team as if they just run and gun all the good shades, you are left with bottom of the barrel trash like normal lancers and butchers.
And maybe the last issue with todays nekros still is synergy, Nekros just simply has very little of it, Terrify scares enemies from Desecrate radius, Soulpunch can also do the same thing with bad ragdoll, and the abilities themselves have very little synergy with Nekros's ulti.
(would be cool if soulpunch could be used to kill existing shadows)
But yeah all in all a very good video and I for one can tell that this was not simply a video reading off patchnotes of Warframe wikis Nekros page.
*ALSO* if you made it all the way down here as a reward I will give you a little Nekros tip.
If you spam multiple casts of soulpunch on a ragdolled target and kill them during the same ragdoll before they get up, you will split the same target into multiple, this way you can turn 1 leech eximus into 2-4 or any other unit you want to.
(5 is my personal best record)
When it comes to opinions on frames over the years I tend to look / showcase a more deeper perspective, while yeah a lot of people still just used him for farming, it would be a disservice to call him "bad" when a lot of other players find value and enjoyed his other attributes. And I did not know that about soul punch splitting target into multiple shadows!

Equilibrium, and plus Armor on health pickup , along with shield of shadows for a nekros that never died ..

B RO i'm gonna desecrate all over the place right now. Have you tried it? How good is it?
I've mentioned it in comments previously but I do wish Nekros had his abilities adjusted. Punch doesn't always let you get the shadows you want, Terrify scatters enemies and thus your shadows (lessening your damage and tanking ability), and Despoil and Shield of Shadows are must-have mods.
1. Punch should no longer knockback and should mark an enemy for your summons to shoot
2. Terrify should be a swappable curse. One for armor stripping (which would probably have to go down to 50% or something) and another for the actual Terrify effect. It'd be nice to have a third curse that marked enemies for a life leech for yourself, companions, and team
3. Desecrate should use health as default, if not all of his abilities (he's a Necromancer. Blood magic makes sense)
4. Let Shadows of the Dead store more enemies or maybe let Punch kill a summon.
This is what I noticed when I played him at default with no augments and subsumes and he does feel like a different warframe in all honesty, whereas other frames don't require that much of an investment to get the ball rolling Nekros requires those augments and subsumes to offset the drawbacks his abilities have at base and make him feel more raid boss like
I use just the despoil mod and no helminths.
If terrifys fear bothers you that much then use its augment
@@Vaz_G You shouldn't have to use an augment to solve an issue with an ability or kit's fundamental problem. Weaknesses with abilities is fine but not when it negatively affects other abilities on the same frame.
I use Piercing Roar in place of Punch because at least it's an augment that's enhancing an ability rather than making it usable
@@brightenblack207 Imo theres nothing wrong with terrify. Its still a mass armor strip with little strength requirement. The fear can be annoying but the enemies usually just die to an aoe anyway so it doesnt bother me

You don't need a slash weapon for mor body parts
The amgal mod for ripkas give you 100% more gore
That means more gore effect =more parts
That even works whit all weapons not only on your ripkas
I really like the old version look of his shadows because i can tell they are his shadows, with his new shadows i tend to attack them when someone is playing nekros and dont realize it for a few seconds as its a little harder to tell they are the shadows.

I love playing Nekros. I realize most people like playing big DPS, so I can play Nekros without feeling bad about it. The homie gave me Despoil and we've been getting so much loot with his Khora Prime, I love it!

Nekros is my forever my beloved frame b/c he was the frame that make interested in playing Wf, I saw his prime trailer and make want to play as the nercomancer in this free game. He also became my first prime who was gifted by a very kind stranger when I didnt know/understand the game and mechanics before I ever got my 3rd frame at the time. (I was literally only playing just to get my hands on him)
He was my most played frame for a very long time b/c he so versatile and make farming very fun and easy to do. Even now, if there is a survival or any mission where I need to stay for a long time, I always use my dead boi.

Biggest issue with shadows is players that don’t pick colors that are differentiated from normal enemies.
this is why I opt for a high saturation scarlet red

I started playing Warframe back in October of last year cause a friend introduced me to it and every time I watch one of your videos it inspires me to try out new warframes I've never played before and I love them cause your videos are so insightful and give a lot of information for a semi-new player (Only 103 hours lol).
Honestly, would love if they made all augments able to go into the exilus slot

32:06 Nourish pretty much completely removes the need for despoil and applies viral to your shadows which can be nice. Frees up the slot for creeping terrify so the only thing lost is the lifesteal from gloom. Works very well with some brief respite in the aura and a couple of augur mods for ye olden shield gate. Ended up going this way because I wasn't a fan of how mobs would run away if they happened to get out of gloom radius.
Don’t forget nourish makes your entire crowed of summons explode into viral stacks whenever they are hit (which happens all the time). Basically turning them into walking epitaph primers
With the right gloom build setup you can reach the max slow and pretty much always be able to kill enemies before they escape. Works even better the higher the level after 500 since enemy damage starts to outscale
You lose the passive slow from Gloom as well, not just the lifesteal. Creeping Terrify is not equivalent as it needs to be cast on every group of enemies - new enemies will be at full speed. Gloom is just set and forget and then runs 24/7.

Stasis might not affect eximus units with oversheilds and maybe their abilities still hurt limbo even when he is in the rift. But their bullets are affected by stasis. So limbo wasn't that badly

Nekros made farming Tellurium bearable on uranus especially with a resource blessing
I main nekros but because of the breaks I've taken between updates I still did not know about a lot of the changes. I had no idea that the armor reduction on terrify was so high. In my opinion, it's still a pretty bad ability, because like you said it makes enemies run away, which is really annoying. What's worse is that it's just inconsistent sometimes - in the few niche cases where I might want an enemy to run away, such as if I'm healing an ally, hacking a terminal, or if I get too low on health, they sometimes just DON'T run away. I feel like they should rework the ability to be a stun, that way it works more consistently and it doesn't have the downside of enemies running away when you don't want them too. I know this would mess up the augment, but maybe they could change it so that the augment just does more armor reduction than the default ability.

I remember using low-mid level farms with nekros, mag and 2 hydroids in 2014-2015. Seeing the two most used farm spots definitely nostalgic. Just watching these videos in 2024, now I'm gonna have to figure out how Hydroid "became the worst warframe" XD.
Nekros used to be my favorite warframe when I realized that the number of shadows scaled with power strength.
I'd set my energy to the brightest white I could, pump my strength up to as high as I could, join a dark tileset like draco, and then just..flashbang people.

Nekros is certainly heavy investment, but is so worth it.
God I remember this update when it came out, and God it was so fun. The lephantis boss was amazing, and was the end game content at that time.
Sometimes playing with Nekros can be annoying. When I’m playing Oberon, the shadows all contributing to the energy drain of Renewal is annoying, and when I’m not playing Oberon, sometimes I confuse a Nekros’s shadows for enemies, just to realize a second or two later I’m dealing no damage.

I love nekros, he will always be my favorite. Not a lot of people play him, nowadays its all in Hydro, or Khora. Which I am guessing afk. With Nekros you still have to actively go out and do damage and do work.
