      It’s not ideal for any sub! Their T/S specs have to be suitable for this application. Low Fs (20-25Hz), high Qts (0.5-0.8), high VAS (150L+ for a 15”), high Xmax (18-20mm+ for a 15”).

    Hey Peter very nice of you too make this educational material. This is the content we need, but don't deserve😂😂😂
    Got a question. Is an undertuned ported box practically the same as a sealed box? I simulated a trunk IB setup in WinISD and compared the sealed version with the ported version (tuned at 16Hz to only allow DC airflow for cabin and assist a little with the low lows). The effect on phase and group delay were minimal at +20Hz. It seemed fine so I made it, set it up and I'm happy with how it sounds. The question being, have I lost anything going from IB to an undertuned ported?
    Not to mention the response can now stay near flat down to 18Hz, gaining over 8dB over the IB, which is impressive.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to tell without knowing what sub you have. When you use subs like the AE in the video, I don’t think anything can beat them for SQ. Having certain frequency response is just a single thing in the equation to determine what it actually sounds like.

  • @MrDivision89

    Hello, What specs should I look for in a subwoofer to determine if its good to be used on IB setup? I have Carpower Raptor 12mk2, and I'm wondering if I should go for reflex or IB in Volvo 240 trunk. I have built IB setup in one volvo 240, it had SPL Dynamics 12" and worked great tho I didnt have enough power for it back then. Thanks for all the awesome content! Br, Jussi, Finland

    Today boys and girls we are going to learn how to build a speaker box. Just make sure you forget to put the back off. Awesome job and great content. When you put the back seat up would it still be considered an infinite baffle? Granted the seat isn't creating a perfect seal but it in not as open to the atmosphere.

      That Scubby had stock alt with Optima Red Top upfront and a 40Ah Stinger AGM at the back. Having min 40-60Ah lithium would help to step up to bigger bass power, but if you plan a hungry system, then plan for an uprated alternator too.

    What are your thoughts about leakage around the C-pillars? That is where a lot of manufactures pass wiring into the trunk and the holes can be massive.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You also have trim panels over them, then the side of the seats, so it doesn’t really leak as much back into the cabin. Also, you have to compare the cone area to the level of leakage and then any leakage is negligible.

    Hey Peter, when do you feel like the system is completely done? I just put a full system in my 1999 Ford Ranger, a tiny single cab pickup truck now the whole interior back panel is essentially a big amp rack. I like what I have now but I kinda wanna change the rear speakers and subwoofers to something bigger. I had an installer do some of the work but gave me my truck back with alternator whine and hissing when it never had that before. So I’m hesitant to pay someone if I want to switch it up again. Thanks

      @pssound9749  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pssound9749 thanks for your reply Peter! I was able to get rid of the annoying alternator whine but part of the hiss is still there even after playing with the amp gains, it’s just unfortunate that you pay good money and expect the quality to live up to what the install said they could do. I will try another installer here locally and see how it goes. Greetings from Arizona, hope all is well.

    You should make and sell kits. In my IB setup, I feel like too much air is moving up to the rear deck causing a lot of rattles. I have the rear deck sound deadened but it doesn't seem to make a significant difference. Do you think it would be a good idea to mount a board on the bottom of the rear deck to prevent or reduce the rear deck rattles?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  2 ปีที่แล้ว
