Man go for it stereo integrity 24 inch ib sub with a carbon cone and dust cap. is everything you just talked about.. if you did a couple on the roof with drivers in the vehicle And waterproof mesh on top … or a couple on the side or floor… the most I seen was a utility van with 4 24in but you had to open the back doors for it to work… and what I like is that it does the most under 1000w
Love IB. Less power required, sound amazin and less trunk space.
Don't you mean more trunk space?
@@chrishernandez2490 The IBs I’ve seen in a trunk are baffle only, or sub is hidden altogether.
Guess I shoulda said require less trunk space.
@@milesbachelor8747 oh, less trunk space *required*, gotcha !
(less trunk space used)
@9:45 its more of a 4th order banpass
Awesome info! Just installed some 8” HAT L8V2’s in IB in the firewall. Was also apprehensive about cutting holes in my truck but cutting the holes was actually the easiest part. Hardest part was getting the baffles right, mounting the baffles to be solid and sealed, outside protection, rain guard and then trying to make it not look like a complete hack job. My advice to anyone on the fence about going IB is do your homework (watch videos like this) and just go for it. Haven’t turned on my system since the install so I cannot say how much of a difference it is but hopefully soon.
it's gonna be awesome man!
Looking to go IB in my daughters Civic. In the process of choosing drivers. Thanks for this informative video, make some more on this topic.
one thing to check out is bass amp, like the instrument..replacement speakers, black widow, scorpion, and so on. as these are often affordable and they usually have good specs for IB
This information is great. I am 42 and just put together my first system. Trying to figure this all out on my own, wish I would have found you sooner than today. I have a feeling I will be watching all your videos. Thanks for the very detailed lesson, this was easy to understand and super detailed. Really appreciate it
Glad it was helpful!
Great to point out the Vas value 🙌🙌
I have a 1972 impala convertible. Im used to ported sub boxes tuned to 33hz. Someone suggested that i go with a sealed box or "simulated" infinite baffle. What do you recommend?
in that ride, IB is likely a bad idea, UNLESS you can seal off the trunk. in that case itll sound great. sealed will sound great too, but be warned, ported enclosures are far more efficient, though sloppy, so youll have less output with IB or sealed.
First time I heard a car's subs 1,000ft away was "simulated iB" in a Chevy Beretta back in 1994. It was awesome how it echoed and set off everyone's car alarms at high school. Gang Run HS VaBeach.
IB is an interesting beast, kind of like a T LINE. in that while it can provide amazingness, there are compromises to consider.
I had 2 free air 12s in my Berretta back in 1994 with a Punch 150
Why's it all about bass... for me it's about music playing with Melody...I hear a lot of automobile audio with all bass .. sound like crap...
Then you need to hear an sq car that is setup properly. You would be pleasently surpised at the balanced sound in a car setup right
Blue is the best color.
@@tonesmith909 Water is not wet.
You’re lost.
@@Cultofpersonality09129 No, I am right here.
A good ported or sealed FRONT sub setup (8s or 10s) in combination with a large rear IB setup (15 or 18) is probably an ideal setup. Thats what i'm looking at doing. 10hz - 35hz (give or take) for the IB and 25hz-100 hz (give or take) for the front sub.
IM running something like that, the tricky bit is getting the phasing right between the front and rear subs. this takes a bit of tweaking
Why the hell does anyone worry about
Building an IB in an 89 ford taurus. 2 sundown u 18s with a crechendo bc 4k
It would be awesome if you did a series on a detailed affordable IB build in terms of cost comparisons including labor. I like SI Audi IB build and BatDogGarage xB build.
Noted!
Thanks, man. I built both of those. 🙂 😂
There are some inexpensive subs that work well in IB.
Then you need a small amp and some wood.
Trunk baffle can be cheap, it just takes some time to make a good sealed baffle.
They start quoting Shakespeare hahahaha
Explanation so on point even a 5 year old would understand 👍👍👍💯
Glad you think so!
I just throw home stereo towers in the back seat. Works for me!
did that as a kid, lol
you missing out then 😂
Infinite baffle has the most linear bass response since they are also known as first order. Sound quality competition car stereos often have IB subs.
Really liked the video! I love breakdowns like this. Other than comments like this one, do you have other routes set up to answer questions and continue audio discussions with viewers?

🔴 I've followed #pssound for years now, good content❗️
Single 15 in a sealed 2.6 cf enclosure. The box (enclosure) is just pushed up to where the backseat was.... There's nothing in the back of my 2000 Accord sedan. I haven't done any custom fab yet.... The bass sounds good, front windows down, trunk closed.... But the bass is awesome once I pop the trunk... I didn't understand this until I listened to your explanation.
My components - 1 -15" Pyle 1000rms/2000peak. Orion (Cobalt) 3200.1D. Lanzar 5 band EQ. 2 -6x9 SoundXtreme. 2 -6.5 SoundXtreme. Pioneer CD radio. I have 2 (I guess they're filters?) to eliminate bass going to the 6.5 in the doors...
Awesome informative video on Free-Air.,... I've been wanting to try this set up for my sub/s again for years. 1st go around sucked😂
yea in the field theyre called bass filters, or bass blockers,
Great information, and well stated. The way you presented this, made it very easy to understand.
Thank you!
thanks!
Liking the Skar SDR-18 D4, modeled in VituixCAD it sure see,s to be a bargain gem for trunk baffle!
Love skar. First had a svr 12 then got 2 sdr 12s with the 1200 rp. Now I got a zvx 18 with a sundown sia 3500 had the enclosure built by sonix enclosures awesome freakin box. The 18 inch prefab box I bought first was no match for the zvx thing sounds so good I love it lol
Good info..i for one needed to know more about T/S parameters
Glad it was helpful!
Built an IBC for the house theater, 8x 16in subs in a column that mounted in basement for living room. 4plys of 3/4" mdf staggered edges and braced halfway. 4 faced in and 4 faced out. Used a hoist to lift in place. In time id like to do 16subs It was awesome !
Thanks-
Check out the AE IB12s (Acoustic Elegance)
Cone area is king for IB, use 15's or 18's if you can fit them.
This video needs more likes because (imo & experience) this could not have been explained any better! Especially, for someone like myself- an "everyday basshead."
Again brother, thank you for the breakdown! 👊🏻👊🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Knowledgeable I learned some shit 👍
AWESOME
Brilliantly explained 👌
Thanks a lot 😊
Would infinite baffle be possible/feasible under a rear truck seat? That area is always scarce for box size/volume, so just removing the rear half of the box could be useful.
Big front baffle that runs width of the of seat, and then side baffles that run along the seat sides. Basically a " [ " shape with no bottom, top, or rear wall. Would it be close enough to a trunk baffle setup?
Or would it still be too "connected" to the vehicle cabin, which is already small on a truck?
*I should specify without cutting a hole in the cab
sorry that would not be an infinite baffle. but what youre talking about WILL work. the only tough part is getting the seal on the floor of the truck. the sides have to be cut to fit perfect, and you need a thick gasket of rubber, then some screw points to attach it down. "i did one like this behind the seat of a 90s ford ranger, with 2 8s in it" anyway you have to create a sealed space using the floor as the 6th side of the box.
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts thank you for the insight, sir. I was curious because I have the height under my rear seats to fit 12s, but nowhere near enough volume.
Looks like sealed 8s are still my plan
@@armedappalachian prolly the best plan, id suggest looking at the JL stealth box for your truck though. they always sound absolutely amazing
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts I've already done a rear seat lift, so I have slightly more room to work with over stock.(2012 Silverado extended cab)
I went with two 8" Kicker L7S, mostly from the nostalgia of wanting solobarics when I was a broke teenager into car audio in mid-late 2000s.
I'm going to DIY the box since I already have all the tools and some woodworking/cabinet building experience. Not much speaker enclosure experience, but sealed boxes seem fairly forgiving.
Great explanation
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks bro
your'e very welcome!
I love the IB design so much that I have 8 15" Jensens from 1955 supplying bass, 10" mid bass and three horns per channel tuned for mid, treble and upper treble into bat hearing freqs.
Yes,, the more you tweak you system and hear more things revealed in the music, the more you will experiment.
I love music as much as food! My set-up is in the home.
1955...them some OLD Jensens...maybe 1985? but yea i agree, music=food
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts I assure you that they are 1955 era Jensens with alnico magnets, P15N's
Why is a QTC of 0.7 the best? Why not 0.5?
.707 is the sweet spot for control verus response. .05 would be quite a bit softer, and play more extreme lows easier, but also be more likely to bottom out.
I also read and saw videos that said a low Fs (below 30) helps.
Any idea why? Maybe a low Fs works better with all the other IB factors to hit lower Hz.
i think a lower FS with a higher qts might be a decent combo, itd be worth an experiment
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts Building the baffle would be the most challenging part. The best sub with those specs is American made and relatively inexpensive.
👍
I run 2 18" Peavey Black Widow subwoofers infinite baffle. It has great attack. Drums feel like drums. Right now its on around 170 watts. I also have a 10" subwoofer in the glove box. Also on 170 watts.
Thanks for the video. i didn't know about qtc and qts. I knew they existed, and i use them to make enclosures, but I didn't fully understand it.
thanks!
Im thinking about trying to use 2 15" peavey PA speakers that i have collecting dust for a "trunk baffle" experiment in my 2010 corolla just for the hell of it. do you think they'll get low? They are peavey PR15😅😅
Yea,, they will. If I recall those are rated for about 200watts.
Yup rms 400 Continuous 800 max.@CarAudioEnthusiasts
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts They don't have too much x max. Does that even matter in your opinion?
they will play pretty low but not low and loud@@H3ntairican
Ahhhh OK understood @CarAudioEnthusiasts
